00:03Thomas doesn't like working with diesel engines.
00:07He thinks diesel engines are very different to steam engines.
00:12Can you see what's different about steam engines and diesel engines?
00:20Here's Thomas.
00:23Thomas is a steam engine.
00:31Thomas runs on coal.
00:36Now here's Harry and Bert.
00:41Do they run on coal?
00:45No.
00:46They run on diesel fuel.
00:51Not like steam engines at all.
00:58Here's Thomas delivering his brakes.
01:01Thomas is a steam engine.
01:03You can tell because he wishes steam.
01:08Here are Harry and Bert.
01:11Do they wish steam?
01:12No, they don't.
01:15That's because they're diesels.
01:18Diesels don't make steam.
01:20Although they sometimes make nasty black smoke.
01:26How else are steam engines and diesel engines different?
01:31Did you hear that?
01:33That's Thomas's whistle.
01:36All the steam engines have whistles.
01:40But that didn't sound like a whistle.
01:43What was that noise?
01:47That's right.
01:48It was Harry and Bert honking their horns.
01:53Diesel engines don't have whistles.
01:55They have horns.
01:58They have horns.
01:58Thomas doesn't like the sound of a diesel engine's honky horn.
02:02He thinks a steam engine's whistle is much nicer.
02:07So can you remember three ways that steam engines are different from diesel engines?
02:15Steam engines run on coal.
02:18And diesel engines run on diesel fuel.
02:22That's one.
02:24Steam engines wish steam.
02:28But diesel engines don't make steam.
02:32That's two.
02:34And steam engines can blow their whistles.
02:39Diesel engines don't blow whistles.
02:42They honk horns.
02:46That's three.
02:51Steam engines and diesel engines really are very good.
02:56Harry did.
02:59Thomas is very happy.
03:02He got all the engines to work together.
03:05And he found out that working with diesel engines was fun.
03:11Harry is happy too.
03:13Working with steam engines was fun.
03:16Thomas used to think that steam engines and diesel engines were too different to be friends.
03:22Do you remember how steam engines and diesel engines are different?
03:28Now let's look for things that are the same.
03:33These are Thomas's wheels.
03:36You need wheels to run on a track.
03:40Whose wheels are these?
03:43These are Harry's wheels.
03:46He can run on the same track as Thomas because he has wheels too.
03:50Steam engines and diesel engines both have wheels.
03:55And they both run on tracks.
03:58Those are things that are the same.
04:03Which part of Thomas is this?
04:06It's Thomas's cab.
04:15Here's another cab.
04:17Whose cab is this?
04:19It's birds.
04:22Both steam engines and diesel engines have cabs.
04:27That's another thing that's the same.
04:31Sometimes Thomas pulls trucks.
04:34Moving things around so little in trucks makes him really useful.
04:45Do you think diesel pulls trucks?
04:49Yes, diesel does pull trucks.
04:53So he's really useful too.
04:56And if there's one thing that steam engines and diesel engines like just the same, it's
05:03being really useful.
05:06There are things about steam engines and diesel engines that are different.
05:12But you've found lots of things that are the same too.
05:17Sometimes engines can be different and the same.
05:21Don't do it.
05:23It's an end and the same too.
