00:00Robert Duvall, American actor renowned for playing the role of a smooth Mafia lawyer in the iconic The Godfather trilogy,
00:09and a colonel in Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of 95.
00:13The actor's death was announced on Monday by his wife of 21 years, Luciana Duvall, a day after his passing.
00:21She said in a statement that Robert had died peacefully at home, as she praised him for being one of
00:26the greatest actors of our time.
00:29Duvall was highly decorated in Hollywood, having won an Oscar for Best Actor for playing Max Sledge in the 1983
00:36hit film Tender Mercies,
00:38depicting the hardships of the life of a troubled country singer.
00:42Duvall was a relatively late bloomer in Hollywood, having delivered his breakout performance as the mysterious Boo Radley, age 31,
00:50in the 1962 adaptation of Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
00:55He then went on to play a slew of characters, each gaining the love of international audiences,
01:01from a bullying corporate executive in the 1976 film Network,

01:10Duvall had often said the character he most liked portraying was Augustus McRae,
01:15a wise-cracking Texas Ranger turned cowboy in the 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove,
01:22which was based on the novel of the same title by Larry McMurtry.
