00:02As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, bismillah wa alhamdulillah wa salatu wa salamu ala rasoolillahi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
00:08Today, insha'Allah, I have selected the following quote from the book Better Me,
00:13and that is, we can compromise many things, but never values and principles.
00:18See, there are many people who may disagree and get into debates over a few things here and there,
00:26and sometimes we really get stuck with our own opinion and we never let go of our ego
00:30and we sometimes fight with one another, quarrel over these things, and we never let go of our own opinions.
00:37Now, what are the things that we should compromise and let go, and what are the things that we should
00:40never let go,
00:41and we should always stick by them as our principles and values?
00:45For example, look at the life of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
00:49When there were treaties and agreements between the Muslims and the disbelievers back in the days,
00:56we know of the story of Sulh al-Hudaybiyah or the Treaty of Hudaybiyah where the Quraishi people came to
01:01the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
01:02to write an agreement that let's have peace for sometimes for 10 years, we'll have peace.
01:06No one will attack any of either side, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam immediately agreed,
01:11and they wrote the agreement, but the agreement stated at the end, Muhammad Rasoolullah,
01:16and that was where the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was supposed to sign or have his seal on,
01:21and subhanAllah al-Azim, the disbelievers, they disagreed.
01:26They said, no, we don't believe that you are the messenger of Allah.
01:29We know that you are Muhammad, the son of Abdullah.
01:31So here the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had choices.
01:33He had a choice with either to let go of the title and save hundreds if not thousands of his
01:39companions
01:40from spilling of blood, or stick to the title and then war will be waged again for many years to
01:46come.
01:46But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, out of wisdom, mercy, and he decided to compromise.
01:51He said, no, remove the messenger of Allah and write, you know, Muhammad, the son of Abdullah.
01:56Even the companions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, they did not like that fact.
01:59So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself, he told him, show me where is the wording, the messenger of
02:05Allah,
02:05because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam didn't know how to read, and he erased it by himself.
02:09So this is one example of compromising for a greater good.
02:12However, when they told the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to leave the deen, to leave Islam,
02:16to forget about da'wah, to worship their gods for one year and our gods for one year,
02:20the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam refused boldly.
02:23He said, wallahi, by Allah, if they put the sun on my right hand and the moon on my left,
02:27for me to leave this deen which is from Allah, it's a matter of a principle and value that I
02:32will never leave.
02:33So learn, my brothers and sisters, of the matters that you may let go,
02:36and learn also what are the things that you should stick by and live by for the rest of your
02:41life.
02:41May Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam grant us the right understanding.
02:43See you tomorrow inshaAllah with another quote of Birameen.
