In this episode of Buy or Skip, Kate serves up her Ooni Volt 2 review. This indoor electric pizza oven landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things list… and it’s not hard to see why. For $700, a premium pizza-making night is possible at home. The best part? The oven is compact enough to fit in a cabinet when you’re done.

Between reaching over 800 degrees in 20 minutes, an effective smoke filtration system and a clever proofing mode for us dough nerds, the Ooni Volt 2 is one of the best pizza ovens right now. But is it right for you, or should you get something like a pizza stone or the Piezano instead? Watch the video to find out!

00:00Hey guys, welcome to my UniVolt 2 review. If you love pizza but don't have the space or ability for
00:05a big outdoor oven, this indoor electric oven might be exactly what you need. In this episode
00:11of Buy or Skip, I'll help you decide if that's the case. So quick backstory, I tested the original
00:17UniVolt when it came out and I loved almost everything about it. It heated up insanely fast,
00:23didn't fill my house with smoke, and honestly baked pizzas that could pass for something from
00:27a wood fire setup. But, and it is a very big but, the size and weight were just brutal. It
00:33was way
00:34too big to leave out all the time and way too heavy to keep dragging in and out of storage.
00:39It felt like a professional tool trying to live in my normal kitchen. The Volt 2 fixes all of that.
00:46Uni basically took all of the best parts of the OG model and actually made it practical for people
00:51who, you know, live in apartments or don't have a secondary pantry for all their gadgets.
00:57This thing looks sleek but not over designed. It's 21.5x17.4x10.4 inches which means it actually
01:05fits comfortably on my kitchen counter. I can even store it in one of my base cabinets. I mean,
01:10it does pretty much take up the whole shelf. But still, that is a massive improvement over the first
01:15Volt. And more importantly, this thing weighs just about 39 pounds. No, it's not light but it is very
01:21manageable. You can lift it, move it around, or stash it between uses without feeling like you're
01:26hauling gym equipment. Setup takes maybe five minutes. You just insert the pizza stone, which
01:31by the way is what adds most of that weight. You plug it in and you're good to go. It
01:35really could
01:35not be easier honestly. Now what makes the Volt 2 actually special is how fast it gets hot. I ran
01:42a
01:42little time lapse test from the cold start and it hit 810 degrees Fahrenheit in just about 20 minutes.
01:48That is wild for something that's safe to use indoors. Uni sets that temperature as the default
01:53pizza mode and for most people it's perfect. You can adjust the temp if you want a slower,
01:58crispier bake and then there are presets for different styles. But again, most people will
02:02stick to that main pizza setting and get everything they need out of it. There is also a dough proofing
02:07setting which holds at a cozy 70 degrees. It's such a small touch but it tells you how much Uni
02:12actually
02:12thought this product through. Like, they know that their pizza people are also dough nerds and they
02:17really leaned into that. One of the biggest challenges with making pizza indoors is the
02:22smoke. Even a sprinkle of flour or a little melted cheese can set off alarms or fill the kitchen.
02:27The Volt 2 has a built-in smoke filtration system that vents clean steam out the back while trapping
02:33all the rest. It's subtle but it works. I ran a few rounds back to back and barely saw a
02:38haze.
02:38The filter comes out for cleaning and after a few uses, it's still holding up really well.
02:42The top of this oven gets warm, not hot. You can brush your hand over it and not get burned.
02:48Obviously, don't go grabbing the metal rim or base but most of the surface area is touch safe.
02:53That's a huge deal if you have kids, pets or just a little clumsy when you're hangry.
02:58With an outdoor propane oven, you usually have to rotate the pizza constantly because the flame
03:03is stronger on one side. Here, you don't. The Volt 2's dual heating elements on top and bottom
03:09makes sure it cooks evenly. You literally just slide it in, peek through the glass window and wait
03:14your 90 seconds. You can open it mid-bake if you want to check that smoke will still be captured
03:19but
03:19it's also fast enough that everyone at your pizza night can get their own pie without waiting 15
03:24minutes between rounds. For me, that is the magic of the Volt 2. Pizza night feels fun and low hassle
03:31with this oven. Now, one important difference from the OG Volt. The Volt 2 is indoor only. The first
03:39one could technically be used outdoors but this one's designed to live on your counter. You could
03:44probably get away with using it in a covered outdoor space like a patio but it's not weatherproof
03:48and definitely should be left outside. If you're looking for something that can handle outdoor pizza
03:52sessions, I recommend the Ooni Kota 2. I did a video about that or really any gas or wood fire
03:57Ooni oven
03:58or even the Ninja Wood Fire outdoor oven if you guys have been following me for a while. You know
04:03I love
04:03that. It's cheaper, smaller and still hits solid temps for pizza nights on the patio.
04:08Speaking of price, the Ooni Volt 2 costs $700. It's actually a bit cheaper than the original Volt
04:14which was kind of a pleasant surprise. And for what it does, I think it's a great value. The build
04:20quality, the performance, the convenience, it all feels very premium. That said, this is not a casual
04:26gift for someone who, you know, might use it once and forget about it. If you're not totally sure that
04:31pizza making is going to be your thing, I would highly recommend starting smaller. A high quality pizza
04:37stone like the one from Hexclad will massively improve your regular oven bakes or check out the
04:42Paisano. It's a smaller electric countertop oven that doesn't get as hot but still delivers that
04:47pizza night novelty at a much lower price. I'll link both of those in the description if you want to
04:51check them out. If you love making pizza or if you want to make pizza more often, this is a
04:58very easy
04:58buy. It's powerful, safe, compact, and genuinely fun to use. And it's one of the few kitchen gadgets
05:04that actually earns its counter space. If you're dabbling, maybe skip for now. Start with a stone,
05:10experiment a bit, and once you realize how addictive homemade pizza is, then you upgrade to this. You
05:15know where I'm going with it? For me, a pizza oven is an all-year must. So now when it's
05:20too cold for my
05:21outdoor oven, the Volt 2 fills that gap perfectly. It's already become part of my weekly routine.
05:27But I am still perfecting my dough recipes, so if you have any tips, drop them in the comments. And
05:32if
