Hillary Clinton described the recently released Jeffrey Epstein files as deeply disturbing, saying the information they contain is “horrifying” and warrants continued transparency. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, she stressed that public access to the documents is essential so people can understand what occurred and ensure accountability where appropriate.

She also cautioned that the presence of a person’s name in the files does not automatically imply criminal wrongdoing. Clinton’s remarks reflect broader debates over transparency, due process, and the reputational impact on prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton, whose name appears in the documents alongside other high-profile individuals.

00:00You know, that doesn't mean, as our news commentators say every day in the United States,
00:04it's because someone's name is there they committed a crime.
00:06But I think there's a lot of very troubling and really horrific information coming out.
00:13I've called for, you know, many, many years for everything to be put out there
00:18so people can not only see what is in them, but also, if appropriate, hold people accountable.
00:25I'd like to ask you, I'm the mother of a daughter, and it absolutely horrifies me
00:31to see what the Epstein files have brought out.
00:34And I wanted to ask you, what does it say about Western values
00:37when Western leaders have perpetuated and participated in these horrific abuses of minors and girls?
00:46Thank you very much. We have gone everywhere from Newstart to Epstein.
00:53Via some fundamental questions of the critique of rules-based order from the left
00:58of civilization versus values of conservatism versus liberalism in the U.S. and other things.
01:07Secretary Clinton, is there a couple directly to you?
01:09Let me start with you, and then everyone else gets about a minute, and you get a minute and a
01:14tiny bit.
01:15Yeah, I heard three in particular. To the last question, it's horrifying,
01:20and we're hoping that, you know, there will be continued release every day that passes.
01:28You know, that doesn't mean, as our news commentators say every day in the United States,
01:33that because someone's name is there they committed a crime.
01:35But I think there's a lot of very troubling and really horrific information coming out.
01:42Today, it came out that Steve Bannon was trying to get Jeffrey Epstein to help him overthrow Pope Francis.
01:48I guess that was part of the civilizational effort.
01:51True conservatism.
01:52True conservatism.
01:53So it is something that, you know, needs to be totally transparent.
01:58I've called for, you know, many, many years for everything to be put out there
02:03so people can not only see what is in them, but also, if appropriate, hold people accountable.
02:11We'll see what happens.
02:13On the New Start Treaty, which we were, the Deputy, the Foreign Minister and I were talking about this just
02:19backstage,
02:21we actually signed, President Obama signed the New Start Treaty in Prague.
02:27And it was, you know, one in a series of efforts to restrain the proliferation of nuclear weapons to control
02:35the U.S. and Russian arsenals.
02:38And I think it's a very big mistake for it to have been allowed to expire.
02:44I know that there was an offer, apparently, from the Russians to extend it a year, during which there could
02:51be some negotiations.
02:53The Trump administration refused that.
02:57And their response was that they wanted to try to get China and other nuclear weapons countries into a regime,
03:06which more power to them if they could ever manage that and if it could be achieved.
03:13But I am very worried because Trump also, you know, he tweets or I guess he Xs or whatever he
03:20does on social media late at night.
03:21And one of his recent ones was to resume nuclear testing, underground nuclear testing.
03:26And I think that would be a terrible development.
03:30So I'm hoping that doesn't happen.
03:31And I'm hoping that there can be some efforts to reinstate some kind of nuclear arms agreements.
03:39You know, with respect to this question, you know, if you think about the 13 colonies, you know, that was
03:47a creed.
03:48It was an idea.
03:50It was a philosophy.
03:51It did not include the entire continental United States, let alone Alaska and Hawaii.
03:55It was based on the founders' deep understanding of human nature, of philosophy, of what we might call liberal thought
04:04as they created a new country.
04:07And, you know, when I hear President or Vice President Vance say things like that about how, you know, it's
04:14a nation, it's blood and soil and all the ways that he talks about it,
04:18I think to myself I never knew he was such a firm advocate for Native Americans because the idea that
04:25you would have an approach toward the United States that ripped away our founding documents, our founding philosophies, is so
04:37contrary to the way I understand American history.
04:40So I think that it is not only wrong historically, it is a political device that I think is very
04:49dangerous and should be rejected whole cloth.
