00:00Is the Bermuda Triangle really dangerous?
00:03A triangular patch in the Atlantic Ocean defined by Puerto Rico, Florida, and Bermuda
00:08has enjoyed a rather sinister reputation for decades.
00:12It's called the Bermuda Triangle,
00:14and mysterious disappearances here date all the way back to 1945,
00:18when a squadron of five U.S. Navy aircraft on a training mission vanished without a trace.
00:23Since then, suspicions have run rampant about what happened to those planes
00:27and to the ships and aircraft and hundreds of people that went missing in the Triangle in the decades that
00:31followed.
00:32Theories suggest massive methane explosions, magnetic field anomalies, even UFO abductions.
00:38But perhaps those disappearances aren't so mysterious after all.
00:43Experts say that the pilots in 1945 probably just got lost and ran out of gas,
00:48and their heavy planes would have quickly sunk after a crash, leaving no trace.
00:52As for the more recent disappearances,
00:54normal storm activity and human error are the more likely causes than anything supernatural.
00:59The ocean can be a dangerous and deadly place.
01:01But there is no evidence that mysterious disappearances happen with any greater frequency in the Bermuda Triangle
01:07than in any other large, well-traveled part of the sea.
01:10The Bermuda Triangle. Just one of life's little mysteries.
