00:10Out of a look. Dishevelled.
00:18Carl, how do you assess that afternoon? Because 8-0 seems a million miles away, doesn't it?
00:23What are you bringing that up for? I said before the game that the football club every year has improved.
00:32I know from an external perspective people just look at the league campaign and where we are in the English
00:37pyramid but we've put an awful lot of effort into behind the scenes and we felt we were coming here
00:42today with a much stronger squad, a better club and I think the players showed that.
00:49And I think now it's about us using this. Last year we couldn't use it. We can use this as
00:55a benchmark to move forward. It's crazy. You know me quite well. I hate losing but you have to accept
01:01it and I think the way we've lost today is testament to the players.
01:05Will that be in tomorrow?
01:06Yes, we're in tomorrow. I'll be honest with you mate, we were in tomorrow because if the result was really
01:12bad I was going to massage their egos and get them back going again and a few pep talks but
01:17now it's about going into tomorrow and focusing on whatever amount of games we've got left in the league campaign.
01:22We have to get out of the league too. We believe that we have a good enough team to do
01:26that. We've got three games in hand and two games in hand on some other teams and we've got to
01:31make that count. I think we play Saturday, Tuesday for the next five weeks. So we're looking forward to the
01:37challenge from tomorrow morning.
01:40How was the mentality shift from a game against Manchester City and playing Newport?
01:47I'll tell you Tuesday. I think when you're a professional athlete I think the surroundings have to sort of be
01:55parked. You should want to win everything that you do. I'd expect them to come in on Monday morning and
02:00want to win five asides. It's going to be hard because you're playing in front of this wonderful stadium with
02:05thousands and thousands of people against some of the best players in the world.
02:09And that won't be the case on Tuesday evening. But we're still the same team. And we're the same men
02:14going over the line to compete to try and win a game of football.
02:18So you've got to park all of the outside noise and all the outside experiences that you've had today to
02:23focus on one thing and that's getting three points on Tuesday and then three points on Saturday and three points
02:27on the following Tuesday.
02:28I don't think we have that much time to think about it. I'm glad there's a game Tuesday because you
02:32can sort of get out of the way very, very quickly.
02:41I couldn't care less because it had to be a boring game because if we go and compete and we
02:49throw numbers forward, I think we'd be sat in going, oh, you were too excited.
02:57You were too giddy. You asked too many questions and you were an inexperience to our team.
03:04I would turn that around and go, what a fantastic defensive performance against one of the best teams in Europe.
03:10I would much rather that be the narrative that we take away. They're there to bring on four of the
03:16best players in the Premier League with 20 minutes to go.
03:21Now, that might have been he might have been bored about his aspect of his play, that he had to
03:25make them changes.
03:26But if we were going to go, we had to play the clock, we had to play the referee, we
03:29had to play moments that we had to get control of the game.
03:32Because unfortunately, when you come to these places, you don't get control of the ball.
03:36So you've got to control the small margins and we had to do that in different ways.
03:40It's not always right. It's not what we want to do. We wouldn't necessarily do that week in, week out
03:45within our league.
03:46But I think when you come to these places, you have to do the right thing by your football club
03:50and not worry about the outside noise or the opinion that other people have.
04:00I'm not really bothered about that now. Respectfully, I think you can look at it, you can go and go.
04:05We might have had the best two chances of first half, just off the field, managed to kick his own
04:09foot.
04:10And then I think Brandon Cooper had the header from four yards out that he needs to score.
04:14In the second half for 20 minutes, I thought we were the better team.
04:18That's my opinion. Not until the substitutions happen that they get back control of the game in the second half.
04:24So, everything else has made a matter to me now. It's 2-0 and we dust ourselves off and we
04:29get ourselves ready for Tuesday night.
04:33Oh, Ross. Oh, sorry.
04:34Don't forget this. I've just been saying to somebody out there that fans are the most important aspect of our
04:46game.
04:47This is why from the Premier League, right down to League 2, you see the attendance as week in, week
04:52out.
04:52We forget that this is still our game and we still play the game for the people who pay to
04:57come and watch us.
04:58So, we're always thankful of that. I'm sure Manchester City are thankful for their fans who come in week in,
05:03week out.
05:04There's never been a moment. I'm still a football fan.
05:07So, I love the fact that we can do fans proud.
05:10But equally, fans have done us proud as well by singing their hearts out and staying with us.
05:14And they're going to have to stay with us through difficult moments in the season.
05:17So, we thank them and we hope to see them on Tuesday night.
05:25Don't have a choice, do I?
05:27Go on.
05:28Go on, I'm joking.
05:29You've played two young centre-halves.
05:32You haven't really played much in the league.
05:33What was the idea behind?
05:35Well, they're from Premier League academies.
05:37Obviously, Zach's come from Arsenal, but Southampton bought them.
05:40And obviously, half he comes from Spurs.
05:42So, they should be able to compete with that.
05:45Were you happy with them?
05:47Yeah, I'm immensely happy with them.
05:48But it wasn't just them.
05:51It was a large part of our game.
05:53I thought Ryan Graydon worked his socks off and asked so many questions of the opposition's backline.
05:59I could go through the whole team.
06:01But everyone's bored now and we want to go home.
06:06Sorry, just one more.
06:08You have Luke Garland at a wide instead of in the back three.
06:11Is that just to be a bit more defensively, Sean?
06:14How happy were you with him because he was with him as a leader?
06:19Garbs had a great game.
06:20But again, Garbs is somebody else who's played in the Premier League.
06:23So, you'd expect somebody likes of him with his quality not to get overhauled by the occasion.
06:27He did it as a very young player playing for Everton.
06:30And Fulham as well.
06:31He went on loan.
06:32So, I wouldn't imagine someone else who's with Garbs.
06:34It will get too concerned.
06:35But it does give us more height.
06:37It gives us more solidarity in our back line.
06:39And I thought it worked.
06:43Take care.
06:43See you later.
06:44Good to see you, mate.
06:44Take care.
