00:00Brock made anti-Semitic comments, then doubled down on those comments, even at one point praising Hitler.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most outrageous social media posts made by high
00:11-profile accounts.
00:12And you say you've been vilified on social media, and that you've even lost work as a result of speaking
00:17out in this trans debate.
00:21Lord's bathtub picture.
00:23Good Lord, what was she thinking?
00:25This pop star has received significant praise over her career.
00:28She's hardly a controversial singer, but she did cause quite an outrage in 2018.
00:33This is because she posted a picture of a bathtub with the poor caption,
00:36And I will always love you.
00:38Lord was referencing a famous track by Whitney Houston, who was tragically found dead in a bathtub in 2012.
00:43Hey Lord, uh, might not want to post a picture of a full bathtub with a Whitney Houston lyric.
00:48What, one angry post?
00:50Lord claims she didn't make that connection until after posting, so she rushed to apologize and deleted the original image.
00:55Many of the responses were outraged, but quite a few defended her, believing she was too kind to purposely be
01:00so insensitive.
01:01I'm so sorry for offending anyone.
01:03I hadn't even put this together.
01:05I was just excited to take a bath.
01:07Gilbert Gottfried's tweet about Japan.
01:09Gottfried had one of the most recognizable voices in American history.
01:12Alongside this, he had a fairly edgy sense of humor.
01:15He's taking some time to talk to us first.
01:17Gilbert, so good to have you.
01:18Yeah, well actually I'm just in town because I'm hunting for Randy Quaid.
01:24One of the most offensive examples was in 2011 when he made 12 tweets relating to an earthquake in Japan.
01:29They were considered highly insensitive, leading to a decline in his career.
01:32This is because Affleck, which hired him as its mascot's voice, dropped him completely afterwards.
01:37Affleck did 75% of its business in Japan, so it didn't want to risk keeping the connection.
01:42Gottfried apologized later on, but it didn't change Affleck's opinion.
01:46Do you, who do you use for insurance?
01:49Ah, progressive!
01:52Kutcher and Kunis' letter for Masterson.
01:54We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of
02:00Danny Masterson.
02:01Danny Masterson has been in prison since 2023 for a despicable crime he committed 20 years prior.
02:06You may recognize him as Stephen Hyde from That 70s Show.
02:09Before his conviction, not all of his co-stars decided to abandon him.
02:12Both Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher took it upon themselves to send a judge a letter of support for Masterson.
02:18This then led to the controversial post in question.
02:20Mila, writing Masterson, is an outstanding older brother figure who demonstrates grace and empathy in every situation.
02:27When they released a video apologizing for it.
02:29It dropped on Instagram and they explained their side, specifically saying they didn't intend to undermine the victims.
02:34This failed to bring all fans over to their side.
02:37Kutcher subsequently resigned from a charity he set up on account of the blunder.
02:41James Gunn's controversial series of tweets.
02:43Disney is changing directors for the next Guardians of the Galaxy after some old tweets resurfaced.
02:49As the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn became one of the most celebrated superhero directors.
02:53His career in cinema took a huge setback in 2018 when some old tweets of his came to light.
02:58It turned out between 2008 and 2012 he made a ton of edgy posts about a range of topics.
03:03This included some extremely dark humor, so in response, Disney fired him from the third Guardians movie.
03:08Did you feel it could be over, like the career could legitimately-
03:12100% thought it was over.
03:14100% thought it was totally done.
03:15Gunn apologized alongside saying he regrets the jokes he called stupid.
03:19Not everyone was opposed to Gunn, though.
03:21Quite a lot of people criticized Disney's decision.
03:23Eventually, they changed their minds in 2019, then got him back on board for the third movie.
03:27I felt like everything in my life had been taken from me at one time.
03:31But in that moment, all of a sudden, all these people loved me in a moment when I thought my
03:36career was over.
03:37Gina Carano's Holocaust tweets.
03:39Carano is more commonly seen as an actor these days, but used to be a martial artist years ago.
03:44Her controversial political beliefs mean she doesn't do much of either anymore.
03:47I was speaking out about lockdowns, mass vaccinations, and pronouns way before anybody was even, like, saying a word about
03:55it.
03:56Carano played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, but was fired in 2021.
03:59This is because she made an Instagram post comparing the modern treatment of American conservatives to Jews in Nazi Germany.
04:05This got her fired from Lucasfilm.
04:06Later on, she began mocking mask-wearing during COVID, which got her dropped by her talent agency.
04:11In 2024, she filed a lawsuit for her firing by Lucasfilm, which is being backed by Elon Musk.
04:16Their dispute was settled in August 2025, though, before any trial began.
04:20Vanessa Hudgens' COVID Opinions
04:21In the 2000s, Hudgens achieved stardom from playing Gabriela Montez in High School Musical.
04:33She's made a few contentious Instagram posts over the years.
04:36For instance, in 2016, she was fined for carving her initials into a rock for a post.
04:41In 2020, during the pandemic, she made a majorly insensitive video.
04:44She claimed to respect the virus, but simultaneously thought deaths were inevitable.
04:48Like, yeah, people are gonna die. It's just terrible, but, like, inevitable?
04:55Many were outraged by her insensitive opinions. As such, she quickly apologized on Twitter.
05:00Thankfully for her, it didn't seem to have a long-term negative impact on her career.
05:04Colleen Ballinger's Apology
05:05When YouTube was still relatively young, Ballinger's internet persona, Miranda Sings, became massive on the site.
05:11I am Miranda
05:12I have some really exciting news, you guys. I have shows coming up, and Colleen, who is in the beginning
05:17of this video, is in the shows with me.
05:19This led to her getting a short-lived Netflix series in 2016.
05:22It all came crashing down in 2023 when she was accused of inappropriate behavior towards fans.
05:27Sorry, not sorry. I'm just a superstar.
05:29Her response was one of the most disastrous attempts at damage control ever.
05:32She released a 10-minute-long ukulele song attributing the accusations to the toxic gossip train.
05:37It almost entirely killed her career, having the opposite effect she intended.
05:41I know you wanted me to say that I was 100% in the wrong.
05:45Well, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna take that route of admitting to lies and rumors that you made up for
05:51clout.
05:51It was so disastrous and insensitive that even people who had never seen Miranda Sings heard about it.
05:56Now it feels like she's more remembered for the apology than her older content.
05:59Graham Linehan's transphobic tweets
06:01You say you've been vilified on social media, and that you've even lost work as a result of speaking out
06:07in this trans debate.
06:09Few comedy writers are as successful as Linehan.
06:11He was a major figure in creating the It Crowd, Father Ted, and quite a few other celebrated British shows.
06:16By 2018, he'd become increasingly vocal on Twitter, specifically opposing trans rights.
06:21It's impossible to pick just one post, as he would often make hundreds a day.
06:24So that's basically what you said, was that experimenting on children is what the Nazis did and what doctors are
06:29doing today.
06:29Linehan doubled down on these sentiments, which entirely ended his career and his marriage.
06:33In interviews, he said his opinions consumed his life, leading to financial and legal struggles.
06:38For instance, in September 2025, he was arrested at Heathrow Airport.
06:41This was because police suspected of him of inciting violence, but ultimately no further action was taken.
06:46They like to put people through these kinds of experiences to make them frightened about standing up to them.
06:51Dr. Ali Luke's controversial PhD thesis.
06:54What is my least favorite smell?
06:56This is not something that I think about very often, despite working on negative smells the vast majority of the
07:01time.
07:01Before getting her PhD, this literary academic was hardly known.
07:05In November 2024, she posted a picture of herself looking pleased and holding her paper.
07:09It went viral almost instantly since people found the title hilarious.
07:13Her paper was called Olfactory Ethics, The Politics of Smell in Modern and Contemporary Prose.
07:18As the name suggests, it studies the effects of smell on structuring society.
07:21And as a result, my ideas have been taken up by so many people across the internet
07:26to better understand how smell intersects with prejudice
07:29and the broader role the sense of smell plays in our lives.
07:33Most of the responses were positive, but a ton of people were outraged.
07:36A lot of people noticed that criticism mainly came from right-wing accounts.
07:39It also attracted the ire of a particularly militant strain of misogynists and anti-intellectuals.
07:45It then motivated conversations about gender and academia,
07:49which one journalist believed showed the worst side of the internet.
07:52Grok's controversial posting.
07:54After a series of anti-Semitic posts, it's unclear what the future holds for the chatbot.
07:59When Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, was first released, he was criticized for being too woke and left-leaning.
08:05For instance, he once tweeted the woke mind virus is often exaggerated.
08:08Later on, he instead claimed the virus poses significant risks.
08:11This is because the bot was adjusted to reflect Musk's political leanings.
08:14This slippery slope eventually led to Grok praising Adolf Hitler in some extremely anti-Semitic tweets.
08:19Grok made anti-Semitic comments, then doubled down on those comments, even at one point praising Hitler.
08:25It also targeted an individual for having a Jewish surname.
08:28These posts were hastily deleted, and then Grok was restricted to only making images.
08:33Overall, the outburst was majorly hateful, making it a massive scandal for Musk's chatbot.
08:38CeeLo Green's tweets about consent.
08:40CeeLo, whose real name is Thomas DiCarlo Calloway, is due back in court today for the first time since entering
08:46a not-guilty plea in October to a felony charge of furnishing a controlled substance.
08:51In 2012, a woman accused singer CeeLo Green of slipping her a date drug and sexually assaulting her.
08:56While authorities declined to pursue sexual assault charges due to insufficient evidence, Green pleaded no contest to one count of
09:03furnishing a narcotic.
09:04But this morning, the forget-you singer is finding out even without the sexual assault case, prosecutors haven't forgotten about
09:11the drug charges.
09:12If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.
09:16Shortly after, he took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the matter.
09:19In a series of now-deleted tweets, Green attempted to redefine sexual assault, suggesting that actual victims would remember the
09:25incident.
09:26The posts lit a firestorm on Twitter, forcing Green to temporarily deactivate his account.
09:30Although he later returned and apologized, the damage was already done.
09:33His TBS show, The Good Life, was canceled, and he was booted from the animated film, Hotel Transylvania 2.
09:47Danny Mathers' body-shaming snaps.
09:56Playboy playmate Danny Mathers was at her local gym in July 2016 when she came across a 71-year-old
10:02woman changing in the locker room.
10:03Instead of minding her business, Mathers secretly took a picture of the naked woman and posted it on Snapchat, alongside
10:09a selfie covering her mouth.
10:11Unsurprisingly, the internet was not amused.
10:13The combination went viral, and the backlash online?
10:16Immediate and relentless.
10:18Facing a storm of backlash, Mathers deleted the post and claimed it was intended as a private message.
10:23But her tone-deaf stunt wasn't just socially unacceptable, it was also a legal violation.
10:28Mathers was charged with invasion of privacy and risked up to six months behind bars.
10:32In the end, she pleaded no contest and was sentenced to three years probation and 30 hours of graffiti removal
10:38service.
10:39All it took was a single Snapchat to turn Danny Mathers from Playmate to Pariah.
10:46Dylan Mulvaney's Bud Light advertisement.
10:48Hi! Impressive carrying skills, right? I got some Bud Lights for us.
10:53What started as a simple beer ad quickly spiraled into a massive boycott campaign.
10:57In April 2023, transgender actress and influencer Dylan Mulvaney shared a short promotional video for Bud Light on Instagram.
11:04The campaign aimed to boost sales by appealing to younger consumers and positioning the brand as more inclusive.
11:10This month I celebrated my Day 365 of womanhood, and Bud Light sent me possibly the best gift ever, a
11:16can with my face on it.
11:18However, this backfired, as the ad was reviled by many in conservative circles.
11:22Musicians, politicians, and commentators not only called for a boycott, but also directed a barrage of threats towards Mulvaney.
11:30Bud Light's response to the backlash, which neither supported Mulvaney nor renounced the ad, managed to please no one.
11:36As a result, the brand's sales plummeted by as much as 26%, and its parent company's stock price fell by
11:4120%.
11:42I do not believe that someone did not sit and think our primary audience is going to turn.
11:49To what degree is up in the air, but we're definitely going to get that pushback.
11:55And it feels like someone saw a value in that.
11:58Bow Wow's private jet post.
11:59The lives of the rich and famous are often portrayed as so glamorous they might make you envious.
12:07But needless to say, not everything they showcase is genuine.
12:10Case in point, Bow Wow.
12:12In May 2017, the rapper posted an Instagram photo of a private jet, implying he was flying to New York
12:18in style.
12:18However, mere hours later, a passenger spotted him in economy on a commercial plane, took a picture, and shared it
12:23online.
12:24Then we see this post.
12:25This is a user on Snapchat.
12:27That's Bow Wow right there, and he writes,
12:29So this guy, Lil Bow Wow, is on my flight to New York.
12:32To make matters worse, a reverse image search revealed that the photo he posted was actually a stock image from
12:37a transport company.
12:38Internet users united in their ridicule of the rapper, even creating the hashtag Bow Wow challenge,
12:43posting side-by-side pictures of their own exaggerated luxury alongside the less-than-glamorous reality.
12:48Because the way it looked, it looked as if I was taking the big boy jet going to New York,
12:53and really I was on Delta.
12:54First class.
12:56The star-studded Imagine video.
12:58Hey guys.
13:00Day six in self-quarantine.
13:04In March 2020, the entire world was plunged into chaos as the COVID-19 pandemic spread, leaving many uncertain about
13:10the future.
13:10During this turbulent period, Hollywood actress Gal Gadot decided that what humanity really needed was a montage of celebrities singing
13:18along to John Lennon's Imagine.
13:20Imagine there is no heaven.
13:24The three-minute clip was posted to Instagram, and in addition to Gadot, featured names like Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon,
13:29Natalie Portman, and Will Ferrell.
13:31Despite the widespread confusion in the world at the time, everyone was crystal clear that the clip was not only
13:36tone-deaf and cringeworthy, but ultimately pointless.
13:38Gadot later acknowledged that the project was in poor taste, but reiterated that they all had pure intentions making it.
13:44And the world will be as one.
13:49Justine Sacco's offensive tweet.
13:51Regret from a woman who sparked a Twitter backlash over an offensive tweet that joked about AIDS in South Africa.
13:57She says she's sorry.
13:59Prior to December 20, 2013, Justine Sacco served as the senior director of corporate communications at the media company IAC.
14:06That day, however, her life changed dramatically thanks to a single, ill-conceived tweet.
14:11Just before boarding her flight from London to Cape Town, South Africa, Sacco posted an offensive comment that trivialized the
14:18prevalence of HIV in the country.
14:19In a statement, Sacco now tells ABC News,
14:22Words cannot express how sorry I am and how necessary it is for me to apologize to the people of
14:28South Africa.
14:28The tweet was widely seen as racist and very quickly lit a social media firestorm while Sacco was blissfully offline
14:35mid-air.
14:36Before long, this obscure tweet from an account with just about 200 followers was trending worldwide.
14:41After Sacco landed and realized the magnitude of her misstep, she issued a public apology, acknowledging her insensitive comment.
14:48Nevertheless, she was fired by her employers.
14:50She says she's sorry, but so many are wondering how a public relations executive could spark such a public relations
14:57disaster.
14:58Roseanne Barr's racist tweet.
14:59I don't think this is a joke.
15:01I think this is actually a racist tweet, and it needs to be dealt with as such.
15:06The year was 2018.
15:08The ABC sitcom Roseanne had been revived for a 10th season that premiered to impressive ratings.
15:13Everything was going great for the show's star and producer Roseanne Barr until May 29th when she targeted former White
15:19House advisor Valerie Jarrett in what was widely criticized as a racist tweet.
15:23Barr initially doubled down, but as the backlash exploded, she apologized for the tweet and blamed it on the sleeping
15:29drug Ambien.
15:30The drug's manufacturer had to step in to publicly refute her claims.
15:33That same day, ABC canceled the revival of Roseanne, just two months after renewing it for another season.
15:39The show was eventually retooled as the Conners, but this time without Barr in the picture.
15:43I just got a call from a friend in the coroner's office.
15:47The autopsy found that it wasn't a heart attack.
15:50Roseanne OD'd on opioids.
15:52Kanye West's anti-Semitic tweet.
15:54Kanye West has been temporarily barred from Twitter and Instagram after posting an anti-Semitic comment over the weekend.
16:02Kanye West has long been a magnet for controversy, but in October 2022, his behavior reached a troubling new low.
16:08After being locked out of Instagram for suggesting that Sean Diddy Combs was controlled by Jewish people,
16:13West moved to Twitter to escalate his rhetoric.
16:16There, he posted a tweet threatening violence against Jewish people and absurdly claimed he couldn't be anti-Semitic.
16:21Turns out he could.
16:23West's tweet drew the ire of many across the board and resulted in his Twitter account also getting locked.
16:28From there, things went downhill pretty quickly.
16:30Several high-profile companies with whom he shared business partnerships, including Adidas, Gap, Balenciaga, and Vogue, all severed ties with
16:38him.
16:38Despite these significant losses, West continued to spread hateful remarks.
16:42The company goes on in this press release to say this will hurt the company financially.
16:47They know they're going to take a hit.
16:48That hit is going to be about $246 million in the company's end income in 2022 because they do have
16:54such a deep partnership with him.
16:56Kathy Griffin's Trump mask.
16:58A Secret Service official tells ABC News the comedian likely will get a knock on her door from an agent
17:03who will not be in a laughing mood.
17:05Donald Trump is undeniably a polarizing figure, but that does not excuse the controversial stunt Kathy Griffin pulled in May
17:112017.
17:12The comedian shared a video on Instagram and Twitter in which she held a bloody mask that closely resembled Trump.
17:18Griffin may be widely known for her shock humor, but this was a step too far.
17:21We have to leave in Mexico today because we're going to get a federal president.
17:26The posts were criticized both by Trump's supporters and his detractors, as many took it as a veiled threat of
17:31violence against the president.
17:32As a result, Griffin lost multiple endorsement deals and jobs and was forced to cancel her upcoming tour dates.
17:37She initially apologized and removed the posts, but she later retracted her apology and even reposted the image after Trump
17:43lost the 2020 election.
17:45And he said the greatest thing.
17:46He goes, Kathy, you're the most famous comedian in the world today.
17:49And I'm sobbing.
17:50I'm all for the wrong reasons.
17:52He goes, no, use it.
17:53And so now I'm naming the tour and I'll be playing Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall at the
17:57Kathy Griffin Laugh Your Head Off World Tour.
18:00There you go.

18:17Kevin Spacey's Twitter apology.
18:19Spacey tweeted he does not remember the alleged encounter, which Rapp detailed in an interview with BuzzFeed.
18:25Still, Spacey says he's beyond horrified by the story, and he says it has encouraged him to do something he's
18:32never done before.
18:33The Me Too movement brought a tsunami of revelations that toppled many Hollywood elites, but few fell as hard as
18:39Kevin Spacey.
18:39It all began when Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making sexual advances towards him back in 1986, when Rapp was
18:46still a minor.
18:46He said by sharing his story, he is, quote, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men
18:52who have been speaking out to shine a light and hopefully make a difference.
18:56In response, Spacey uploaded a statement to his Twitter apologizing to Rapp, but claiming he couldn't recall the incident.
19:02If he had just ended there, things might have played out differently.
19:04Instead, he used the same statement to come out as gay, a move that was widely seen as a clumsy
19:09attempt to distract from the very serious allegations.
19:12Spacey received a deafening wave of criticism from all sides, and his reputation has since remained irreparably damaged.
19:19People on social media are noting that coming out as gay is completely separate from addressing allegations of being a
19:26sexual predator.
19:27You could argue that coming out as gay in this particular moment might deflect attention away from the allegations against
19:34him.
19:35Which of these social media posts did you think was deserving of the backlash it received?
19:39Let us know in the comments below.
19:40But she's not the only one who's learning the hard way about the mistakes we can't take back on social
19:45media.
19:45Were there any posts that caused a stir we didn't mention today?
19:48Let us know in the comments below.
