00:00for many rural and working-class communities, and now we have to have a working-class
00:06centered politics if we are going to succeed and also if we are going to stave off
00:13the scourges of authoritarianism, which also provides political sirens, political siren
00:21calls to allure people into finding scapegoats to blame for rising economic inequality, both
00:28domestically and globally.
00:31So when you run for president, are you going to impose a wealth tax or a billionaire's
00:38tax?
00:38I don't think that anyone, and that we don't have to wait for any one president to impose
00:47a wealth tax.
00:48I think that it needs to be done expeditiously.
00:51The aspect is that we have to solve problems, otherwise the next European elections in 29
00:54will be a big- You know, I think this is a moment where
00:59we are seeing our presidential administration tear apart the transatlantic partnership, rip
01:08up every democratic norm.
01:11Should we just take you start and then just take a quick-fire round of answers?
01:14Sure.
01:15One of the reasons why not just myself, but many of our colleagues here, in fact, Democrats,
01:21many Democrats that are here as well, is because we want to tell a larger story that what is
01:30happening is indeed very grave.
01:32And we are in a new era domestically and globally.
01:37There have been many leaders who've said, we will go back.
01:40And I think we have to recognize that we are in a new day and in a new time.
01:44But that does not mean that the majority of Americans are ready to walk away from a rules-based
01:53order and that we're ready to walk away from our commitment to democracy.
01:58Kidnapping a foreign head of state, whether it is threatening our allies to colonize Greenland,
02:05whether it is looking the other way in a genocide, hypocrisies are vulnerabilities and they threaten
02:14democracies globally.
02:16And so I think many of us are here to say, we are here and we are ready for the
02:20next chapter,
02:21not to have the world turn to isolation, but to deepen our partnership on greater and increased
02:29commitment to integrity to our values.
02:31Why is it important that you're here representing the US?
02:35Also I'm so glad you made it.
02:36Who paid for your flight?
02:38We did.
02:39You know, first and foremost, I think we need to revisit our commitments to international
02:44aid, not just USAID, but the dozens of global compacts that the current Secretary of State
02:54and President Trump have withdrawn from.
02:55They are looking to withdraw the United States from the entire world so that we can turn into
03:03an age of authoritarians that can carve out the world where Donald Trump can command the
03:11Western hemisphere and Latin America as his personal sandbox, where Putin can saber rattle around
03:18Europe and, and try to bully around our own allies there.
03:24And for essentially authoritarians to have their own geographic domains.
03:30Um, Peter, probably you are the Czech president, but you're also, um, we're a very seen
03:36Thank you very much.
