Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the SAVE America Act, arguing the bill would strengthen election security and restore public trust in voting. She claimed more than 80% of Americans support stricter verification measures, calling them “common sense” protections that ensure ballots reflect legitimate voters. Speaking about election oversight, Noem emphasized that republics depend on citizen confidence that their votes count and that safeguarding elections is a core American responsibility.

Her remarks come amid fierce political debate, with Republicans framing the bill as fraud prevention while Democrats warn it could restrict voter access. The dispute highlights widening divisions over election laws and democratic trust.

00:00American people have common sense, and they want to see reforms like this put into their election.

00:09Eighty-three percent support proving your citizenship.
00:12Ninety-five percent of Republicans and 71 percent of Democrats agree with voter ID.
00:19The House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act.
00:22This is federal legislation that does some common-sense, straightforward things.
00:27First of all, it requires a photo ID.
00:29In order to vote in federal elections.
00:31It also requires proof of citizenship in order to register to vote.
00:36And it requires states to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls.
00:41These measures are extremely popular with American citizens.
00:45American people have common sense, and they want to see reforms like this put into their elections.
00:50In fact, a Gallup poll was recently released that shows 84 percent of Americans support a photo ID when they
00:58go to vote.
00:58That 83 percent support proving your citizenship when you go to register to vote.
01:04A Pew research poll showed that 95 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of Democrats agree with voter ID.
01:13There's a reason why more than 80 percent of Americans support these measures, and that's because they work, and they're
01:20common sense, and they build trust into the system.
01:23It's common sense that our elections should belong to the American people, that they should be the ones who get
01:29to vote, whose votes are counted.
01:31That they get one vote, not more, not less.
01:34It's common sense to make sure that foreign nationals don't vote in our elections, don't elect our leaders, and have
01:40a say in how our country runs.
01:42They don't and should not be allowed to be trampling on the voice of the American people, and will no
01:48longer allow American citizens to be disenfranchised, to have their voices suppressed by criminals, by hostile foreign actors, and by
01:55illegal aliens that shouldn't be here in this country.
01:58You know, at the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked out on the street by
02:04a woman what kind of a government that we would have, and he replied to her, a republic, ma'am,
02:09if you can keep it.
02:10And that's what our job is.
02:12For 250 years, it's been our American duty to maintain our republic and to make sure that our elections are
02:19secure.
02:20Republics depend on the confidence of their citizens, that when they vote, that their vote matters, that it counts, and
02:26our elections are essential to make sure that that confidence stays there, that they know and trust that the system
02:31is fair.
02:32Since returning to office, President Trump has made election integrity a priority.
02:37He's made it a cornerstone of his Make America Great Again agenda.
02:41And the truth is that our election system needs a lot of work.
02:44From state to state throughout the country, we see challenges and things that can be improved on.
02:49And although the Constitution gives states the primary responsibility for running their elections, Congress also gives authorities and duties to
02:57the federal government.
