00:04Does it taste better? Well, it depends on who you ask.
00:09So who eats soy sausages?
00:11Short answer, mostly people in wealthy countries who can choose what they eat.
00:16In Germany, for example, 30% of consumers identify as flexitarian.
00:20They still eat meat, but choose to eat less of it.
00:23Germany has also one of the highest shares of plant-based eaters in Europe.
00:27And yes, meat substitutes like tofu are on the rise.
00:30But globally, eating habits look very different.
00:33Across many low- and middle-income countries, people tend to eat more meat once their income increases.
00:39Like in China, for example. Rising meat consumption is also linked to population growth and urbanization.
00:44In some places, diet is shaped more by culture than income.
00:48And without meat, it's not considered as a full meal.
00:52In India, many people are vegetarian for religious reasons, not financial ones.
00:58Plant-based alternatives mostly gain favor in wealthy societies with high food security.
