00:00We do have Matt Rensho from Australia ready to take questions. Who wants to go first?
00:05Yes, you can ask.
00:06Matt, the loss of the early wickets, was that kind of the difference in the match in the end?
00:11We saw Zimbabwe only lose two and then to have four down at the end of that power play, was
00:14that kind of the main difference?
00:16Yeah, it probably makes it quite tough to chase 170 out there.
00:20They bowled really well at the start, took some early wickets and felt like every time we built some momentum,
00:25that partnership with Maxi was obviously important but couldn't get enough momentum in there to chase that down.
00:32It was just too many tonight.
00:34Team performance aside, how do you find two World Cup games, two strong performances?
00:39You must be sort of loving your time out there.
00:41Yeah, I think for me it's just different roles.
00:44So the other day it was batting four, today it was six, probably it was going to be at seven
00:48if Stoyan hadn't got hit.
00:51So I think it's just playing the scenario.
00:53Obviously been in twice early, learned a lot from Pakistan in those three T20s.
01:00I know we didn't perform very well but we learned a lot in those conditions.
01:04So being able to come out here today, take my time early, not feel like there's any pressure to score,
01:09still get some boundaries away and was probably a bit different today compared to the other day.
01:15The other day was probably a bit more turn, a bit more spin.
01:18So today was just trying to get us to a position where we win the game and unfortunately that wasn't
01:23the case.
01:25Matt, Australia are struggling with a few more inches.
01:28So how did it affect to this result?
01:34Probably Marcus Stoinis was going to bat higher.
01:36He got that hit on the finger.
01:38We don't know how bad it is or I'm sure the medical staff will treat that.
01:44But yeah, probably that was the one today.
01:47But yeah, we just weren't good enough today.
01:50They played really well.
01:51They batted really well, got 170 on the board, had wickets in hand to launch at the end and took
01:57early wickets.
01:58So it's always tough in a T20 when that happens.
02:02Imran Ahmed, Delhi Sachan from Pakistan.
02:052007 T20 World Cup.
02:07Zimbabwe beat Stelia by five wickets.
02:10First upset of that first World T20 World Cup.
02:14Now, same teams, same event.
02:17What is the reason Stelia again defeated by the Zimbabwe and it is upset?
02:22I think that was 18 years ago.
02:25I was 11, so I was nowhere near the team at the moment.
02:29But it's just cricket, like T20 World Cups, T20 cricket in general.
02:33People can have a day out.
02:35I don't think the gap's as big as what everyone's saying.
02:39So I guess where there's difference in the rankings.
02:42But T20 cricket, someone can have a great day out.
02:44Someone can get a few early wickets and it's just the game changes.
02:48So I think that's just the nature of T20 cricket and they played really well.
02:53I don't remember watching the one in 2007, but they probably played well that day as well.
02:57So they're a good team.
02:59They've got a lot of good players.
03:01You saw they were missing their captain today and they still played really well.
03:04So they've got a great cricket team.
03:07Matt, as you say, it's a pretty small margin in T20 cricket.
03:11Would it have been really nice to have a bowler in the squad having replaced Josh Haselwood to pick from
03:17for this match?
03:17Did that have an effect on the outcome in the end?
03:20I don't think so.
03:22I think the bowlers in the group that are here are good enough.
03:26You've seen them perform so many times in world cricket.
03:30Sometimes they just don't get the wickets.
03:32The ball lands in the gap.
03:34But yeah, a back-up bowling group, we probably should have chased that down.
03:38I don't think it's the bowling group that should get the blame today.
03:41But yeah, I wouldn't say that's well out of my pay grade, that selection decision.
03:47I just found out I was here last week.
03:49So I'm just pumped to be here.
03:51Matt, a lot of moving parts to start the tournament.
03:54Obviously Mitch missing the first two games, the injury to Stoinis today.
03:58Has that upset the rhythm of the batting group much?
04:01No, I don't think so.
04:03I think our batting group is so fluid with different options.
04:06We're all sort of in big-batch cricket, very suitable to going in different spots throughout the middle.
04:14So yeah, obviously having Mitch out is a big loss and not sure when he'll be back.
04:19But yeah, he's obviously a big inclusion to open the batting.
04:22That makes someone else open the batting.
04:24So it's sort of just those differences in where people are going to be.
04:28But in terms of fluidity, I think we're all pretty able to manipulate and manoeuvre around different conditions.
04:34And yeah, unfortunately, we just lost wickets at the wrong time today.
04:38We'll take three more questions.
04:39So first to you.
04:41Brian from Zimbabwe.
04:43The tournament, looking at how the tournament has fed, the underdogs threatened to beat the bigger sides.
04:50And it didn't happen.
04:52But then it happened today, Zimbabwe versus Australia.
04:55The question is, did you guys speak about you guys not wanting to be the first team to lose weight?
05:02You were the overwhelming favourites.
05:04And like you said, in the game of T20, it's about the big moments and Zimbabwe were better today.
05:09No, you never speak about trying to lose a game to anyone.
05:13So yeah, I think obviously you look at our group.
05:16We've got Zimbabwe Island, two really good sides.
05:20They play a lot of T20 cricket.
05:22I think I saw one of the bowlers had 100 T20 international wickets today.
05:26And like that, they're playing a lot of T20 cricket.
05:28They're playing against some different, they get different conditions.
05:31So probably for us, we just want to try and do what we do best and play well.
05:36And yeah, unfortunately today was the loss for us.
05:39But yeah, you don't really talk about other teams losing and you just try and play your best game of
05:43cricket.
05:45Matt, during that 70 odd partnership between you and Maxi,
05:50it looked as if Australia could get over the line.
05:53Do you think this is kind of a surface where you need to show application than flair?
06:00Yeah, I think so. I think there's obviously time for flair in T20 cricket.
06:05It's sort of a different one as well today with the dimensions of the ground.
06:09There was one short end with some wind, one big end.
06:12So just trying to target different options.
06:15But yeah, for us, it was talking about rebuilding after that six over break.
06:20Rebuilding, trying back for seven, eight overs with still really good intent hitting gaps.
06:25And then hopefully we're at a stage there where we could try and still be in touch with the game
06:31and score some quick runs at the end.
06:32And that wasn't to be with the wickets. We kept losing.
06:35Final question.
06:36Excuse me. Australia is coming out of one month of Big Bash.
06:41And you are, every player has been playing T20 cricket for long now.
06:46So is not performing here, is that something to do with this Australian team's inability to play on the low,
06:54slow bounce wickets or something like that?
06:58I think that's just the nature of cricket. Like you get a subcontinent team coming to Australia
07:03and you don't get them complaining about the bounce or the pace.
07:06It's just the way that cricket is nowadays.
07:08You've got to be able to go through different surfaces.
07:11Yes, the wickets in Australia during Big Bash are quite true.
07:15They get a lot of bounce.
07:17You know, you go to India in the other side of the tournament,
07:21there's different wickets. There's probably higher scores, shorter boundaries.
07:25The boundaries here are quite big. So it's just cricket.
07:28Like you're not going, we're going to change our Big Bash to suit being able to play in the subcontinent
07:33because that's just, that's not going to work for anyone.
07:36But yeah, it's probably just they're trying to adjust the conditions as well as we can
07:40so that when we get to these conditions, we know what the game plan is.
07:45We know how we get best suited.
07:47Thank you very much and Ben Lushis is there for the Mixon from Australia.
07:51That's it.
07:52Thank you very much.
