00:00What do you know about Canada's cricket team?
00:04What do I know about?
00:05Canada's cricket team.
00:07I did a bit of homework yesterday, so I've got a decent idea now.
00:12Obviously, coming to the World Cup, I didn't know too much,
00:15but it's important to do that homework and research on their players' strengths,
00:21weaknesses, all those sorts of things.
00:23I've definitely got a much better understanding now.
00:27Are you looking for an emphatic performance, a big win if you can get it,
00:31or is it just about getting over the line?
00:34Yeah, you don't want to jinx anything.
00:36At the start of this comp already, we've seen some close games
00:39and it doesn't look like there's going to be any straightforward, easy games,
00:43but I have faith in our team that if we put a really good game of cricket together,
00:48then we give ourselves a good chance at a good result.
00:51That's sort of something you want to do in a competition like this.
00:54You want to start off really well and run with that.
00:57So that's where a lot of the focus has been for us as a group
01:01and hopefully we can put a really good game of cricket together.
01:05Edwin, we've been watching a little bit of Nets
01:08and it looks like David Miller is hitting the ball really hard and really far.
01:11Obviously, he was injured in the build-up,
01:14but what's his mindset given what happened the last time and his age and all that kind of thing?
01:19Yeah, I think initially he was quite frustrated.
01:21I think he got through SA20 and almost got through SA20 and was in a really good space.
01:27Unfortunately, he gets a little niggle and that will frustrate anyone.
01:32So he's here now in a good space.
01:36Been training hard, obviously doing lots of stuff for the physios and trainers to make sure his body is good
01:42and it's looking really good.
01:43And the way he's hitting the ball, like you mentioned, is a real big positive for us.
01:47So I'd say space now is good, confident, excited and it's a good space to have a David Miller in a space I get.
01:57On your bowling attack, you've got a lot of seamers especially.
02:01Do you have an idea of how you'll balance the XI tomorrow?
02:05Yeah, so we've got a decent idea.
02:08Obviously, we'll announce the team at the toss,
02:11but you want to marry the things you're good at but also with the knowledge you have on the opposition.
02:18So we've got a fairly good idea who the seamers will be
02:22and hopefully they can start the comp well.
02:24It's been a tough few games for them.
02:26The wickets have been really good and hopefully they can start the comp well
02:31and have some confidence moving forward.
02:34How's that Aiden?
02:35KG said something interesting the other day.
02:37He said that ever since you guys won the World Test Championship,
02:43there's been sort of a change in the public's perception of the team going into tournaments.
02:48I know this is probably the first tournament, but he felt that nobody actually even used the word choke anymore
02:54and it was just like well wishes and stuff.
02:56Is that sort of been your understanding of it as well and your feeling as well that monkey's off the back now
03:03and now we don't think about those things anymore?
03:06Yeah, I think KG is a lot more involved in social media and things like it compared to me
03:12and I'm pretty useless on my phone, but it does feel that way at least.
03:19The belief, the confidence, the monkey off the back, all those sorts of things I think plays a role in language in the camp
03:25and the behaviours in the camp, so it definitely does help, but having said that I don't think you rock up here
03:32and now all of a sudden it's going to be easy or whatever.
03:36So, yeah, we're going to have to be on it, but the WTC trophy definitely did give that belief
03:43and sort of confidence in the camp.
03:46Just lastly, on the batting line-up, it seems like five of the top six is quite settled and straightforward,
03:54but then I was just wondering, is the sixth position basically a shootout between Jason and Tristan
04:01and what are your guys thinking around that position?
04:04Yeah, so it'll be between the two of them. That's still one part we're trying to work out going to tomorrow.
04:11So, both of them are showing really good signs, they're both hitting the ball really well,
04:17playing very impactful knocks, which is what you need at that role.
04:21So, at least whichever way you go, you're picking a guy that's in form and hitting the ball well.
04:26So, we'll make that call and take it, but the two of them are definitely our number six options for now.
04:33Sorry, if I can just follow up one more.
04:35Will both of them or either of them or one of them also be considered as a bowling option or not at all?
04:42Hopefully not, but it's great to have the option as a captain.
04:48So, having conversations with them, they have been bowling, doing a bit of work there just in case they need it.
04:55Nowadays, you know, things can go against plan and you need to fill in some overs and between myself and the two of them
05:05or whichever one of them plays, we can hopefully do a job for the team.
05:11How challenging or easy it is to play a relatively lesser known opponent like Canada?
05:17I think it can actually feel a bit tougher, you know.
05:22We haven't played them.
05:24Well, I certainly haven't played them in my career.
05:26You're not 100% sure what to expect and that poses a new challenge.
05:30I think when you play teams consistently, you have a pretty good idea of how they approach the game,
05:35their plans, the actual players and their abilities.
05:38So, yeah, you don't want to, at least from our side, we don't want to put too much emphasis on that.
05:44We'd rather focus on our skills, on our plans and executing well.
05:49And we feel if we're able to do that, we give ourselves a good chance.
05:54So, do you think, including associates and the community members of the country, Canada, and the other one,
06:01and the increasing number of teams,
06:04that we're driving the companies or the competition,
06:07and I'm going to pick up to one side,
06:09instead of the past, they should have all the players,
06:12and then two or three of them coming away,
06:15instead of them are all playing the same,
06:18and they're all playing the same,
06:20and they're all playing the same.
06:24I actually don't think so, no.
06:26You look at the games that have already happened,
06:29upsets in previous World Cups have happened,
06:31and the gap between the associate nations now and the other countries has become a lot smaller.
06:39So, in this format specifically, I think it takes one or two guys to have a really good day
06:45and an upset can happen,
06:47and the associate teams have been playing really well.
06:50We've seen it even now at the start of this World Cup.
06:52There's been some close ones,
06:54and games could have swung either way.
06:57It was on a bit of a knife's edge,
06:58and I think that on its own is actually quite exciting to watch.
07:05Edna, I just want to ask you about this ground.
07:07It's pretty cavernous,
07:08and I don't know how many people will get in tomorrow,
07:11but is it different playing here than elsewhere,
07:14or does the size of it make any difference to anything?
07:18Not the obvious field, but you know, the thing.
07:21Yeah, I mean, it depends on how many people come, I suppose.
07:24So, it could look quite empty because it's such a massive stadium.
07:29But again, it'll be on us to create that intensity
07:33if there's no real atmosphere and vibe that we might be used to.
07:37So, it might be different.
07:39But yeah, it's something that you have to deal with and work around,
07:44and it's definitely no excuse to not be on your game.
07:48Thank you very much.
