00:00Also in New Jersey, it is day two of thousands of people camping out in the sweltering heat for service
00:05at motor vehicle commission centers.
00:07And today CBS 2's Lisa Rosner demanded some answers. She is live in Springfield. Lisa.
00:15Well, Maurice, the governor is now asking people not to camp out overnight, but he's also not apologizing or offering
00:22any alternatives except suggesting that people go online.
00:25But that is not an option for things like registrations, and that is why you still see a few people
00:30waiting outside this office, even though police told them it's closed.
00:34They spent about 16 hours here so that I could register my motorcycle.
00:39I've been here since yesterday.
00:41They had so much time to prepare, and it was like a disaster.
00:45From Lodi to Wallington to Springfield, desperate drivers waiting in line from the night before across New Jersey, tired, sleepy,
00:54and frustrated.
00:55Why aren't they open 24 hours? They need to hire more people. It's ridiculous.
00:59Around 7 this morning, a manager at the MVC in Wallington handed out 150 tickets to people that could be
01:05seen today.
01:07CBS 2's John Diaz told they were at limited capacity for staffing, so he asked.
01:11So now are you going to get vouchers for tomorrow, or?
01:14I can't answer that question. Maybe someone else can.
01:18Perhaps his boss, MVC Chief Administrator Bisou Fulton, who said June 5th.
01:24In order to limit crowds and speed services during the phased reopening, some agencies have been designated as licensing centers
01:32and some as vehicle centers.
01:35Clearly, that didn't work.
01:37We requested an interview through an MVC spokesperson to find out why.
01:42You said that the chief administrator was too busy to speak with us today, so I wanted to get some
01:47answers from you.
01:47The spokesperson said he was not authorized to answer.
01:51Why can't the agency extend hours or divvy up days by the first letter of last names?
01:56And is each MVC manager at these locations being directed to hand out tickets for people they couldn't serve today?
02:03Governor Murphy said in an afternoon press conference.
02:05I think the appointment only is a good idea, but they all pale, and I'll make sure I feed that
02:12back in.
02:13They all pale by the fact that we're going to add a day, unfurlough workers.
02:18The agency will be open Saturdays beginning next week.
02:22Little comfort to Steve Fulton, who waited all day yesterday in Springfield and was told to leave before vouchers were
02:28handed out.
02:29It's just so unfair.
02:31It is so unfair.
02:32And I got up at 2 o'clock in the morning to get here, just like all these other people.
02:41Registrations, licenses, and as well as inspections that expired between March and May have been given extensions until July 31st.
02:51Whether the state will extend again, the MVC chief never got back to us.
02:55We are live in Springfield, New Jersey, Lisa Rosner, CBS 2 News.
02:58Okay, Lisa, thanks for that.
