The Dalton Gang was a notorious group of American outlaws active during the late 19th century in the Old West. Originally serving as lawmen, brothers Bob, Grat, and Emmett Dalton turned to a life of crime, forming a gang that specialized in train and bank robberies across Kansas and the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma).

Their boldest and most infamous attempt came in 1892 in Coffeyville, Kansas, where they tried to rob two banks simultaneously. The plan quickly unraveled when townspeople recognized the gang members and armed themselves. A fierce gunfight broke out in the streets, resulting in the deaths of most of the gang. Emmett Dalton was the only survivor, later serving time in prison before eventually being released.

The Dalton Gang’s dramatic downfall became one of the most legendary stories of the American Wild West, symbolizing both the daring and the danger of outlaw life on the frontier.

00:00Welcome to my channel Shadows of History. Where was the largest Old West gun battle?
00:05The Battle of Ingalls in Oklahoma has been described as the biggest.
00:10On September 1, 1893, a gunfight erupted between U.S. Marshals and the Doolin-Dalton Gang.
00:17Since 1891, these outlaws had been involved in several train and bank robberies.
00:23A posse tracked them down to the town of Ingalls. The local saloon was housing the outlaws,
00:28which is where they opened fire upon seeing the posse. After exchanging further gunplay from a
00:34barn nearby, Bill Doolin shot and killed Deputy Marshal Richard Speed. Likewise, Bill Dalton
00:40killed Deputy Marshal Lafayette Shadley. Despite injuries sustained during the skirmish,
00:46most of the gang managed to escape. Arkansas Tom Jones got stunned by dynamite and captured by the
00:52posse. Soon after, the rest of the Doolin-Dalton Gang was wiped out by various lawmen. Thanks
00:58for watching.
