00:00FALSE CLAIMS AND A.I. VIDEOS DOMINATE MILANO CORTINA
00:07As the Winter Olympics continue in Milan,
00:10fake videos, A.I. slop and disinformation
00:13have swamped the Games.
00:15One video claiming to show US Vice President J.D. Vance
00:18being booed at the Olympics opening ceremony
00:21has spread rapidly on X and Telegram
00:24and sparked memes generating millions of views.
00:27During the actual ceremony, Vance and his wife Usher
00:30were standing in the crowd, pictured wearing different clothing
00:34and smiling as the procession passed by.
00:37As seen from these photos, Vance wore a suit to the opening ceremony.
00:41He later wore a similar windbreaker to the one seen in the video,
00:45but this was during a preliminary round of women's ice hockey.
00:48One of the presenters did comment on booing in the crowd,
00:51which can be heard in the actual footage from the event.
00:54Journalists in the crowd also described hearing some boos
00:58as Vance was pictured on screen.
01:00However, the viral video, which shows Vance frowning, is A.I. generated.
01:05For example, you can see that Vance has unnatural eye movement.
01:08Elsewhere, Russian accounts on Telegram
01:10spread videos slandering Ukrainian refugees,
01:13such as this video claiming to show Ukrainian refugees
01:16protesting outside Italian embassies demanding the Olympics be cancelled.
01:21It features the official Eurosport logo, but there's no evidence
01:25that these protests took place, and Eurosport did not publish this video.
01:29A widespread theory also took hold of X, claiming that Sweden's Princess Frida
01:35called Trump a creep and invited Canada to join the EU.
01:39This picture is actually of Swedish cross-country skier Frida Karlsson,
01:43who made no such comments as she took gold on 7 February
01:47at the 20km women's skiathlon.
