Transcript
00:00When it comes to the Spanish costas, us Brits all have our favourites.
00:05We love Costa Blanca!
00:07We love Costa Nelson!
00:09Venator!
00:10You've been bennied.
00:12But whichever we prefer, with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:17it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:22Living that dream life can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Listen!
00:26My life, you're right.
00:28Stress level.
00:29Through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:33Girl power!
00:34Girl power!
00:34Come on, Sam!
00:35Forward!
00:36Booyah!
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:39Is priceless.
00:43Cheers!
00:45Peace and love.
00:45Cheers.
00:46That's why there will always be...
00:48España!
00:50We love it!
00:51Ole!
00:52The weather!
00:53The boys!
00:54The wife being happy.
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
00:59Today on the costas...
01:02Unbelievable.
01:03...
01:04Birthday boy Laurie gets more than he bargained for at Shaney's Ungi's Emporium.
01:08Hope Laurie appreciates this.
01:10All this blowing.
01:12Oh, I do like a tractor.
01:13Mad about the goats, Jill has high hopes for her B&B's latest attraction.
01:18I always said I'd go up in the world.
01:22Can you get me a false speech, please?
01:24And get your jazz hands ready for a glimmer and sparkle revival.
01:28How are you doing this?
01:29You should try, you know what I'm doing.
01:30I'm just going to put these throws through the wash.
01:40I'm Jill.
01:42I live in a little town called Villanova de la Concepcion, just outside Antiquiera.
01:47Easy for you to see.
01:48And then they're ready for tomorrow when the next guests are arriving.
01:52I run a little, what we call a Casa Rural, where I rent rooms out.
01:58I only have two, it's only small.
02:00For five years, alongside her B&B, the former probation officer ran coach tours.
02:05Right, here we are for the ives.
02:07Time away on the trips meant industrious Jill was neglecting the guest house.
02:11I'll take you places you've never been.
02:13Follow me.
02:14Promises, promises.
02:15To replace the coach tours, business savvy Jill's exploring a new scheme, closer to home,
02:21to tempt guests into staying longer instead.
02:23See, that's it.
02:24I'm not frightened of ice, I'm just frightened of falling.
02:27Today she's going all out on her grand plan, and it doesn't need a hard hat.
02:32It's wobbling!
02:36Today is going to be different.
02:40I've got Anne and Ellie coming round.
02:43I'm going to have a go at making soap.
02:48I did an online course on soap making.
02:51I went to the farm and got some goat's milk, and I had a go at making goat's milk soap,
02:55and I've made some more since.
02:57I've made other soaps, and I quite enjoy it.
02:59I find it quite therapeutic.
03:00You're kidding.
03:02Fun fact, Malaga goats are some of the best in the world,
03:05so Jill's milking the region's assets, trialling farm tours, and soap making for her guests.
03:11It's sort of like doing a soap making workshop,
03:15but I'm still learning how to make soap as well, so it's experience for me.
03:21But as a complete novice, she's had to nip out for an essential item she's forgotten.
03:26The most important thing I have to get is rubber gloves.
03:28My kitchen's only small, and there'll be four of us in it at any one time.
03:34I don't know what size they are.
03:35Working with caustic soda today, so we'll just have to be very careful that nobody tips it,
03:40gets near it, or anything like that.
03:42Gracias.
03:43Hasta luego.
03:44I'm sure something will go wrong.
03:46Well, have a little faith.
03:47You've got your safety equipment.
03:49Well, that's rubber gloves to you and me.
03:50And some sweet treats.
03:52You just need some plucky volunteers to test the class out on.
03:55Oh, Chico.
03:56Hello.
03:58We're going to go in and start the soap making.
04:01Come on, then.
04:01Let's go.
04:02We've got to start.
04:03I've just been for some cake.
04:05Chico, a born and bred local, will also act as translator at the farm for Jill and her good pals Anne and Ellie.
04:19I'm all right.
04:20How are you, Annie?
04:21That's all right, because we're behind schedule as well, so come in.
04:26Anne and Ellie are golf widows today.
04:28Their husbands are playing golf, so they're coming here to play with soap.
04:33And what's cake?
04:33Shall I get cake?
04:35You can get cake.
04:36And biscuits.
04:37And biscuits.
04:38That sounds like a party.
04:41A soap party.
04:43A soap party.
04:44I don't think they realise this yet, but Anne and Ellie and Chico are really just going to be giddy pigs to see whether it's going to work or not work.
04:54Right, this is the itinerary that's going to go wrong.
04:57No, I'm really quite looking forward to today.
05:02So, watch this space.
05:03Come on, let's get going.
05:08All this lovely sunshine and it's free.
05:11And it's no secret us, Brits, love a bit of Spanish sun.
05:15Are you enjoying the cake?
05:16Yeah!
05:17And me too.
05:17I am.
05:18This is as good as paradise is going to go.
05:21Told you.
05:21It's so good, it makes us want to...
05:24Exactly, Joyce.
05:26We love Spain so much, we've come over all strictly.
05:30Ole.
05:31Whoa, splits.
05:32I can't do the splits.
05:33The rhythm has well and truly got the costas.
05:36Yee-haw.
05:37Always look your partner lovingly in the eyes.
05:40That or there's ants in our pants.
05:42Speaking of ants, hello.
05:44Let's get these legs going a bit of do-si-do.
05:46Yee-haw.
05:47And in Benny Dawn, we're tripping the light fantastic back to when one couple were aiming to join the Costa Conga.
05:54Well, Sparkle, time's getting on.
05:58We've never got to say what you're wearing tonight for the rumba classes, salsa classes.
06:03It's date night for Geordie husbands and entertainers Will and Steve.
06:08I am looking forward to seeing something different.
06:10Having a spin round the room.
06:12I'm looking forward to it.
06:13I've never done salsa before.
06:15Surprising when these golden boys have been stepping out together for an impressive 50 fabulous years.
06:21When we were talking about dancing, I said to Steve, why don't we try a salsa class?
06:26We've never done salsa.
06:28No, I am a little bit weary, but looking forward to it.
06:31No, no, not nervous.
06:33I'm just excited about it.
06:35While they may have worked in the party mecca of the men for almost 23 years, this busy pair have precious little time to themselves.
06:44By daytime, by tour guides, I'm taking holidaymakers out and about.
06:49Are you ready?
06:50One, two, three.
06:51By nighttime, it's nighttime showtime for your impersonator work and Steve as compared to my shows at nighttime.
07:00I'm the performer.
07:02I come out to a rapturous applause.
07:05My stage name is Will Sparkle because I will sparkle.
07:09Oh, very good.
07:10But they both bedazzle, Benny Dorn.
07:12And mine is Steve Glimmer.
07:14He's a sparkly glimmer.
07:16Once the sun's gone down, that's when I become perky.
07:22Well, perky, your husband becomes Dame Shirley.
07:25I call this one my Cadbury's fake dress.
07:27It's a beautiful dress, but I have about 30 or 40 different ones.
07:33But this is, I change them.
07:34I can use this for when I'm doing Shirley Bassey.
07:37Well, Goldfinger, you'll never be short on outfits for a whirl as Shirley.
07:41But the sequins will stay in the closet tonight.
07:45That's a nice one for Salsa.
07:47Maybe that one.
07:48Will and Steve may share a bed, but there's no chance of sharing a wardrobe.
07:52This is my domain.
07:53Yes, of course, I'll do without Sparkle to come in.
07:56But I spend a lot of time here because I do a lot of things behind the scenes for the shows
08:01and, of course, for the other work as well, for Ben Dorn Holiday.
08:04And what do they call it, these, when they've got these outside,
08:07and the men go out and drink all day, the man caves and whatnot, isn't it?
08:11Well, that's, of course, this is a bit of a gay cave, really.
08:14Very nice, it is, too.
08:16But you need to get out of your cave and into your gladbracks.
08:19Here, we're ready for action.
08:21Ready for Salsa.
08:23Dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee.
08:28Oh, these are wonderful dancing shoes, these.
08:30Peyton Gleather, Peyton Gleather dancing shoes on the charity shops.
08:34I can't complain, I'm very, very comfy.
08:37Mine is in the charity shop, I must admit.
08:38And look, my Christmas present off, Steve.
08:41I've got some lovely shoes, which I thought I'd put on for the first time tonight,
08:45for our Salsa Club.
08:46Ooh, brave.
08:47I always like to break in my new dance shoes, personally.
08:50OK, then, Steve.
08:52Better get off, because our Salsa teacher's waiting for you.
08:55Oh, Freiline will be waiting.
08:56And we don't want you to delay the Salsa teacher.
08:58You need to hot-foot it, fellas.
09:00Anderley, anderley.
09:01OK, come on, let's go.
09:02Let's get off.
09:03Coming up.
09:09Could you be back by 10.30 in a minute, no later.
09:13Shop girl Shaney's full of surprises for lover boy Laurie.
09:16What he doesn't know is that our friends are flying over from the UK.
09:21And enterprising Jill gets her class slaving over a hot, um, soap.
09:26I wasn't expecting it to be so labor-intensive, no.
09:29Well, that was our 20 minutes work.
09:43Yes.
09:44Well, there's no need to overdo it at the shop today, Laurie.
09:47It's Laurie's birthday.
09:49I won't tell you his age, but, yeah, it's his birthday.
09:53So we're celebrating today.
09:55Shame we have to work, but, obviously, needs must.
10:00Those undies won't sell themselves, Shaney.
10:03So we only work once a week on a Sunday.
10:05And if, like, a birthday falls on a Sunday, hey-ho, we've got to work, we've got to make a living.
10:10But we make the most of it and enjoy ourselves after work, and during work, we always have fun.
10:16Undiepreneur Shaney has been mesmerised by former hypnotherapist Laurie since they met on holiday in 2004.
10:23Laurie's my world, you know, like, I've waited all my life to meet the man of my dreams.
10:29We might be busy today, so could you be back by 10.30, and I mean it, no later.
10:35I certainly can, ma'am.
10:37Laurie is my yin to my yang.
10:39He just makes me laugh every day.
10:42Yeah, I'll go now, take the dogs out, and then I'll be back after.
10:46I'm the one that want it.
10:47I want it now.
10:48I want to do this.
10:48I want to do that.
10:49And he's the more calmer influence on me.
10:52I know it's your birthday, but you've still got to work and do as you're told.
10:54So it's lovely that we bring both things to the table.
10:59Undeniably the perfect pair.
11:02So, now that he's gone, let me tell you what we've got on for today.
11:07So, Anne's coming in any minute now.
11:11Got her in early, so she can put all his happy birthday, the balloons, the banners.
11:16And then what he doesn't know is that our friends are flying over from the UK.
11:24So, yeah, he's got no idea.
11:26They'll make this year's celebrations extra special.
11:30There are more surprises planned for tonight, but my lips are sealed.
11:33Morning!
11:37I need my jacket to lift if you want.
11:39Oh, did you?
11:40Oh, I might have bought it.
11:41Oh, you have, yeah.
11:42So, you have.
11:44So, Anne's going to put...
11:45Laurie's gone, so we're going to now decorate the shop.
11:48I think that Laurie will be quite emotional about the surprises today.
11:54I am very romantic, and I love giving surprises anyway,
11:59and mostly every year I do something for him.
12:01I'm not going to have enough blow to do this one, look.
12:04Oh!
12:05But I think this is one of the best things I've done so far,
12:09especially with Lisa and Gerry coming over from the UK.
12:11He would just be over the moon.
12:13You take one in, Shaney.
12:15Yeah.
12:15So, we can see what we've got.
12:17Bear with me.
12:18I've got a few more blows.
12:19Where do you want to stick it?
12:21Keep it clean, Shaney.
12:23I won't tell you.
12:23He's got no idea what I'm doing.
12:27He doesn't expect anything.
12:29And, yeah, I just think he'll be overwhelmed and so happy
12:33to see what I've done for him.
12:35I hope Laurie appreciates this, all this blowing.
12:39Well, it is his birthday.
12:40We've started getting busy in half an hour,
12:45so it's like, put the pressure on to get all the decorations up,
12:48so we're ready to sort of start selling.
12:52Chop, chop, ladies.
12:52With the market filling up, time is running out.
12:57Are you done with your gloves?
12:58Right, grab yourselves.
13:00We need gloves, really, just for health and safety,
13:03because this is what essential oil can do.
13:07Because it's that strong, it's melted the plastic.
13:10Talk about a kitchen sink drama.
13:12Outside Malaga, B&B owner Jill
13:14hopes her bold new soap-making class
13:17helps make up the income shortfall
13:19from dropping her coach sauce.
13:21To make the soap, it's like baking a cake, really, making soap.
13:25You've got some lavender.
13:26Oh, lavender, lovely.
13:28And lemon.
13:29You get all your ingredients together,
13:30all your different oils, your butters,
13:32your essential oils.
13:34And there's some oats here,
13:37if anybody wanted to.
13:39Take a bit and add oats as well.
13:41And then you measure your lye,
13:43what they call lye in the soap trade,
13:46which is your caustic soda.
13:48Right, do you want to stir your soaps?
13:50It's very milky.
13:52And then you've got to get it, like,
13:54mixing a cake, where you've got to get it
13:56to the right consistency,
13:58and it's what they call trace.
13:59Then we can mould it.
14:01So, I'll put mine over here.
14:03Whichever word.
14:04Ellie, Anne, and Chico are the test subjects
14:06for this latest enterprise.
14:09If Jill can make a success of it,
14:10she can market the workshop as a new attraction
14:13at the B&B.
14:14I might have made this a bit too strong.
14:17For that deeper cling...
14:18That's ginger.
14:21You're OK with your eucalyptus?
14:23That's a very personal question, Ellie.
14:25Oh, you nearly did it.
14:28Nearly did it.
14:30I've never made soap.
14:31It's really interesting,
14:33the process and what goes into it
14:35and how accurate it has to be in measurement.
14:40Who knew that soap would just gel so quickly?
14:44Who knew it was made out of milk,
14:46and still getting my head brown now.
14:48It's looking OK,
14:49but I wish it thickened up a bit quicker
14:52than it is doing.
14:54It's given me some muscles.
14:57Well, I don't know what I expected,
14:59but anyway, the pupils are very good.
15:01They're very...
15:02I mean, they even brew up without being asked.
15:05And they're all going to go on with some soaps,
15:07and the main soap, the proper goat's milk soap,
15:09we're just trying to get that to trace now.
15:11I wasn't expecting it to be so labour-intensive, no.
15:15Once thick enough,
15:16the mixture's put in the fridge to set.
15:18I don't want to spill any of it.
15:22Hello, guys, neighbors.
15:24You've heard of pigs in blankets.
15:26This is soap in blankets.
15:28Oh, very good.
15:29Fingers crossed they should be ready
15:31for where we come back from the farm.
15:32OK. Oh.
15:33To come out the mould.
15:34Everything crossed.
15:36I think there's a lot to be improved on
15:38with the soap-making workshop.
15:40There's not enough room in that kitchen.
15:41Maybe next time we'll try the kitchen upstairs,
15:44cos there's a bit more work surface.
15:47LAUGHTER
15:47I think it's got possibilities.
15:51It's got possibilities to turn into something.
15:54But I need to do a bit more research on it.
15:57No time for a debrief, Jill.
15:58You're running late for the farm tour.
16:00Now we're heading off to the goat farm,
16:04where we can meet the goats, hopefully.
16:07Milk a goat, maybe.
16:09Eat cheese and drink wine.
16:11Well, you know what they say, Jill.
16:12It ain't easy being cheesy.
16:14While B&B owner-turned-soap-maker Jill dares to chase her dream,
16:22how many of us Brits are brave enough to turn a passion into a profession?
16:27I always wanted to be a nurse,
16:28and I just retired after 45 years of nursing.
16:32Well, you found your callings to leave.
16:33When I was a kid, I probably wanted to be a footballer or something,
16:36but now I'm a teacher.
16:37Getting our kids on the right footing's a noble cause, Neil.
16:40When I was younger, I wanted to be a bricklayer when I left school.
16:44But as it is now, I've gone down the factory route,
16:48and I've been in the factory for 30 odd years.
16:51Did they let you out for good behaviour?
16:52I didn't want to be a nurse.
16:54Did you?
16:54Yeah, but I work in the GP practice, but I'm not a nurse.
16:57Well, he's close enough, Cheryl.
16:59When I was younger, when I was in school,
17:00I wanted to read the Welsh news,
17:03but now I work in a hospital.
17:05I'm a cardiac physiologist.
17:07Well, it's all Welsh to me, Helen.
17:08I wanted to be a footballer.
17:10That was my ultimate dream.
17:13Get yourself in the Saturday leagues.
17:14When I was a kid, I wanted to be an accountant,
17:17and I've ended up being a supervisor for Greg's.
17:20Well, we thank you for your service, John.
17:24Meanwhile, in Benidorm...
17:25Come on, we'll miss our lesson. Come on.
17:28Busy entertainers Will and Steve are carving time out
17:31of their usual routine to discover a brand-new one, salsa.
17:36Hola.
17:37Encantado.
17:38Encantado.
17:40Hola.
17:41Led by professional dancers Domi and Johnny.
17:44I think it's important to get out there and try and enjoy.
17:48Do you have dance before?
17:49No.
17:50I dance always, but never salsa.
17:51Good.
17:52Not first time.
17:53Very good. Perfect.
17:55We have to live our lives in the daytime.
17:57We have to for jobs.
17:58But when the sun goes down, that is when I feel at home.
18:03We have eight times.
18:05I'm doing six steps.
18:07It's that thing.
18:08And one of the things.
18:10All of the things.
18:11They work hard so they can play hard.
18:14We're still able to enjoy life,
18:17and we're still young in Benadrym.
18:20I think at 64 you're still young.
18:22Looking lively and light in the loafers tonight.
18:25I just love the lights, the music.
18:35I just don't want to sit in a bar drinking.
18:37And why would you with moves like those?
18:40I can't sit still.
18:41I've got hips.
18:42My hips are fine.
18:44And they don't lie, Will.
18:46Okay, okay.
18:47I love dancing, I love movement.
18:50Obviously at 62 I don't do what I did when I was 42,
18:54but I do enjoy dancing.
18:56Well, come on, snake hips.
18:57Show us your moves.
18:58Oh.
19:00Now this is better where you can just do your own thing.
19:03Age smage.
19:04The rhythm's well and truly got you two.
19:07Well, very interesting.
19:08I mean, I don't think I'll be entering any competitions,
19:11but it's interesting to learn the steps.
19:13Am I natural? No.
19:15But I'm trying.
19:18And who doesn't love a tryer?
19:24Wait steady.
19:25You'll have someone's eye out.
19:26They make it look easy, but very much more difficult.
19:32People see salsa and they think it's really easy.
19:34But I'm more of a freestyle.
19:36Freestyle salsa.
19:37Freestyle.
19:37Maybe a few of those moves will make it into your drag act as Will Sparkle.
19:48What we've learned so far is excellent.
19:55I think I might be back next week.
19:57But until then, it's back to the day job
20:00and a promising new booking on the horizon to prepare for.
20:08Coming up.
20:09I just want to make sure that you're going to be here at 11.
20:12Don't be late.
20:13Party planner Shane is full of surprises for Laurie's big day.
20:17Ta-da!
20:18I find it fascinating how they stand and stare at you.
20:21And enterprising Jill and the gang are milking her latest excursion.
20:26So what happened?
20:26I've got milk.
20:38Can you go and give that one to Brian while we're doing that?
20:41Okay, I'll be done, Tyler.
20:42Yeah.
20:42I think my husband's got more wind choice here than I do.
20:46Charming.
20:47In Quesada, shop girl Shaney's bra emporium is bursting with excitement
20:52ahead of Laurie's surprise party, with best mates flying in especially.
20:57It's been so difficult to keep it a secret
20:59because I've known with Lisa and Jerry for about three months
21:03and I keep wanting to say something and I have to keep biting my tongue
21:07because it's so difficult.
21:09I keep getting annoyed with myself.
21:12The last balloon.
21:13The last balloon.
21:14Hallelujah.
21:14And it's a big one.
21:16Oh.
21:19It's exciting and I'm so happy for him
21:21but I'm glad when it's going to be over
21:23because then it's out in the open
21:25and we can all enjoy it.
21:29That's good.
21:31Looking great, Shaney.
21:33We have a nine, Shaney.
21:34If you have a nine, I'll be going to go.
21:37I'll see if she wants these.
21:40I'm going to do, I think, six there
21:42and nine here, Anne.
21:44Well, the cat's out of the bag with Laurie's age then.
21:47We've been quite busy at work the last few weeks
21:50so I've been doing lots of orders, lots of social media
21:53and been really actually getting busy trying to organise Laurie's birthday.
21:58With Laurie due in 30 minutes, Shaney's called in the emergency support squad
22:09to hit her tight deadline.
22:12So now let's work.
22:13Business starts now.
22:14Because, yeah, business starts now.
22:16So if you can start hanging, I'll get Pam to help you hang
22:21and then we can put all these away and get ready.
22:25Sweethearts Shaney and Laurie met 19 years ago
22:28and work hard to keep that spark alive with surprises like this one.
22:32We still have date nights, we still make it romantic
22:37even though we're together 24-7
22:39because although you're living together,
22:42you still have got your own little things to do.
22:44Now we're ready for business, we're ready for Laurie,
22:47so he'll be here at half past ten.
22:48And then at 11, our friends are arriving from the UK
22:51to surprise him, he's such a lucky boy.
22:54Assuming all girls like clockwork, timings are crucial.
22:58Hi, Lisa, where are you?
23:00I just want to make sure that you're going to be here at 11.
23:03Don't be late.
23:06You know where I've left the cake?
23:08Get the cake.
23:09He's got no idea you and Jerry are coming.
23:11After months of planning, this is also a big thank you to Laurie
23:14for all the support he's given Shaney's bra business.
23:18Girls, you ready?
23:19Let's have a look.
23:21Ta-da!
23:21Oh, brilliant!
23:22Costa's most wanted.
23:26Ta-da!
23:28That's the icing on the cake.
23:29Well, if there was one, there's still no sign of Lisa or the cake
23:33and Laurie's early.
23:35Stand by your bras, ladies.
23:37Happy birthday!
23:40Unbelievable.
23:42Happy birthday!
23:43Amazing.
23:43Who is this handsome man?
23:44I don't recognise him.
23:48That must have taken a lot of work.
23:52How come I haven't got one?
23:54Right, back to work.
23:55That's it for you.
23:56Uh, not quite.
23:57Turn around, Laurie.
23:59Best mates Jerry and Lisa have made it.
24:01Impressed you've remembered not just the cake,
24:03but your honorary uniform, Lisa.
24:06Surprise!
24:06Oh, my mate!
24:08Happy birthday!
24:09We've come for your birthday!
24:10What are you two doing here?
24:13Unbelievable!
24:14And you thought we'd forgotten?
24:16They were absolutely amazing.
24:18I really wasn't expecting it, actually.
24:20It was just fantastic.
24:22The T-shirts were the best.
24:23They were just super.
24:24Time to cut the cake then, eh?
24:26But it was all lovely and real surprise.
24:28And really, she really got me.
24:30Are you ready?
24:30Would you like some cake, girls?
24:31Ooh, and let there be cake as well.
24:32Ooh, everything got me, actually.
24:35Mind you, she's pretty good at that.
24:38Shane is serving up even more surprises later.
24:40Would you like a little bit or a big bit?
24:43I won't answer that.
24:44Right.
24:45All the way along.
24:47Getting best pals Jerry and Lisa here in time
24:49was the real sweetener today.
24:51I met Lisa when I worked for the National Guardian in London,
24:55and I've now known her for 43 years.
24:59Ooh.
25:00Nice.
25:01It's really nice, isn't it?
25:03And we've gone through things together,
25:05and we've stayed tight,
25:07and I couldn't wish for a better friend.
25:09Beautiful.
25:11It's really lovely.
25:12To have them here for his birthday
25:14and to be with all our other friends tonight.
25:17Shh, he might hear you.
25:19We're going to have to take these down really properly.
25:21What more could Laurie want?
25:23More surprises.
25:25See you later.
25:26Oh, well, you're coming under me.
25:27I thought I should be homeless.
25:32Time to get the ball rolling on phase two of Shaney's secret celebrations.
25:37Let's go.
25:38Let's go.
25:39Oh, my penalty.
25:41More from a wife.
25:42We could take more from a wife.
25:48Make sure you tie your legs as what the axle's tripping up.
25:50It's back grafting for husbands Will and Steve,
25:54or should I say...
25:56Sparkle and glimmer.
25:57I'd rather like to take this.
25:59Because you look like an air horse.
26:00Air horse, that's why.
26:02Steve's bagged a brand new booking for Will's drag act
26:05just three minutes from their apartment.
26:07I've worked in, I think, nearly every bar in Babylon.
26:11And this one's going to be another one for us.
26:13Got the frocks, got the lights, let's get on.
26:16A big part of our business is being able to adapt the show to the venues.
26:21A lot of research is done beforehand.
26:24Their show has to work seamlessly in the new space.
26:27Tonight's show is quite important
26:29because he's already asked us,
26:31can we do a night a week even before he's seen us?
26:34So the pressure's on to sparkle.
26:37Got my favourite shirt on, pink to make the boys' winks.
26:41What, like the granddads?
26:42A big part of our business is being able to adapt the show to the venues.
26:47A lot of research is done beforehand.
26:50I've got to sort out where I'm going to stand,
26:52where I'm going to get changed.
26:54Oh, look, it's good.
26:56It's lovely.
26:57Ah, Leo!
26:59We're quite.
27:01Hola, hola, hola.
27:03Todo bien?
27:04Todo bien, si, muy bien.
27:06Bienvenido.
27:06This is your house.
27:08It's my house.
27:09Oh, let's go.
27:10Here we go.
27:12While Will sorts out his wardrobe,
27:14Steve's doing a sound check.
27:16Oh, steady, Steve.
27:18Health and safety.
27:19What I do is,
27:21I'm always just a little glue, really,
27:22gluing it all together.
27:24I do the music.
27:25I compare.
27:27I give a little bit of information
27:28about the next act that's coming up.
27:30Yes, the public can see me here.
27:34I've got a headgeist,
27:35which has come to about here.
27:37As you can see,
27:38I'm going to hit the door.
27:39So,
27:39I'm going to very delicately,
27:42hazardly,
27:43sort of go like this.
27:45I'm just going to come down here
27:46and meet my public.
27:49Meet the sparkleettes.
27:51But hold up,
27:52there's a problemette.
27:53I think it might be the why
27:54the connection's not correct.
27:57We've tried mine,
27:58I've tried his.
27:59There's something fishy
28:00that we can't get my hands on.
28:01What do you best get reeling?
28:03There's less than three hours
28:04to get it fixed
28:05or this regular gig
28:06will be a goner.
28:08One shoe.
28:09One shoe.
28:20My favourite pet
28:21out of my tribe
28:22is Freya.
28:27Freya is three years old.
28:29She is the softest girl,
28:32loves to cuddle,
28:32always there for me
28:33when I'm having a bad day.
28:35Just a big heap of fun
28:37is Freya.
28:38Don't tell the others
28:39because they will get jealous.
28:46Freya is very protective
28:47of me.
28:49Just in it,
28:50she follows me everywhere.
28:51She's very clingy,
28:51she's very needy.
28:53Everywhere I go,
28:54Freya goes.
28:56Hey, good morning.
28:58Hey, good morning.
28:59The least favourite thing
29:00about Freya
29:01is passing gas.
29:02She is absolutely rotten.
29:04She stinks.
29:04She is no lady
29:06when she does that.
29:15Hello.
29:16Hello.
29:16Hello.
29:17Hello.
29:18North of Malaga,
29:19goat-loving Jill's
29:20brought her gang
29:21to a traditional cheese farm
29:23in her village.
29:23The scenery is just
29:26absolutely stunning.
29:28Meanwhile,
29:29their homemade goat milk
29:30soap is hopefully setting.
29:32Today is a goat day
29:33because I like goats.
29:36Well, I'd never have guessed.
29:37I read that in Malaga province,
29:39just Malaga province,
29:41there are around
29:421,500 goat farms.
29:44The climate and terrain
29:46is perfect for grazing,
29:47so these beauties
29:48are a valuable asset.
29:50Well, at least,
29:50I'm going to move on.
29:51I'm going to move on.
29:51I'm going to move on.
29:51I'm going to move on.
29:53Hello.
29:55Since giving up
29:56her coach tours,
29:56this farm could be
29:57a moneymaker for Jill, too.
29:59I'm hoping
30:00that we can come
30:01to some arrangement
30:01where I can bring guests
30:03and have this
30:04as an activity
30:05for people staying
30:06at my Casa Rural,
30:07say, four people.
30:09If they agree
30:10and her guinea pigs
30:11today are impressed,
30:13the soap-making
30:14and goat farm visit
30:15could be a way
30:16to tempt any guests
30:17to stay longer
30:18and pay extra.
30:23My Lula could be a goat.
30:25The way she looks
30:27and stands sometimes.
30:31I love it.
30:35I love it.
30:36I just...
30:37It's just like...
30:37They've just got
30:38such character.
30:40I just find it fascinating
30:41how they stand
30:41and stare at you.
30:43They're probably
30:43thinking the same, Jill.
30:45They're curious, aren't they?
30:46Yeah.
30:46Very curious.
30:48It's the best thing.
30:49Now we go to...
30:50We go to milk
30:52one goat
30:53by Hans.
30:54Isn't that a dog, Chico?
30:56Oh, I see.
30:57Sorry.
30:58Lueck.
30:59She doesn't look too keen.
31:02Oh, and he's done that before.
31:03Jill, you want to try?
31:05But you need to be here.
31:07I'll stroke it.
31:08Well, I don't think stroking
31:09is how it's done.
31:14OK.
31:15So, what happened?
31:16I've got milk.
31:18Well, can I just say
31:19that her little teat
31:21was red hot.
31:23That'll be all that stroking.
31:24I have milked a cow before.
31:29So, yeah, I managed
31:31to do the goat.
31:33Yay!
31:33Yay!
31:34Yay!
31:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
31:37You can try.
31:39No, you don't need
31:39to be that deep.
31:40Just the top.
31:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
31:43Of course, it's spuming.
31:45It's like cream.
31:45Well, it doesn't get
31:46fresher than that.
31:48Jill and her friends
31:49have had an Access All
31:51Areas pass today.
31:52Oh, wow.
31:55Quantos litros?
31:57500 or 600.
31:57500 to 600 litres of milk
32:00going every day
32:01to Met cheese.
32:02I have to say
32:03I'm speechless.
32:05I really am lost
32:06for words.
32:07I'm just...
32:08They've really gone
32:09out of the way
32:09to show us
32:10around everything.
32:11The farmer
32:12was here.
32:14You know?
32:15Easy.
32:16That's good.
32:17Yeah.
32:19Down to the goats,
32:20all the different
32:20ages of the goats,
32:22milk a goat.
32:22It's just a bit
32:27mind-blowing.
32:28I am amazed.
32:29Oh, it just reminds me
32:30of being a child again
32:31and visiting my uncle's
32:33farm.
32:33Just fun.
32:34Real fun.
32:35Hey!
32:37I always said
32:39I'd go up in the world.
32:41I think if we could
32:42put this together
32:43as an activity
32:44for the Casa Rural,
32:45we're on a winner.
32:47Oh, I do like a tractor.
32:49It's certainly
32:50the start of something
32:52to work on.
32:53I'm really...
32:54I'm excited
32:55and looking forward
32:55to this.
32:56I really am.
32:57My cheeks are hurting
32:58because of smiling.
33:02While the farm visits
33:03look promising,
33:04can the same be said
33:05for Jill's
33:06soap-making workshops?
33:09Dusty Springfield
33:10looks as if she's
33:11been through a car wash.
33:13Veteran drag queen
33:14Will Sparkle
33:15debuts at a new venue
33:16later,
33:17a stone's throw
33:18from their
33:18Benidorm apartment.
33:20I'm already plucked,
33:21look,
33:21Branka,
33:21feel that.
33:23Ably assisted
33:23by wardrobe mistress
33:24and good mate,
33:26Branka.
33:26You're looking
33:27very nice tonight,
33:28aren't you?
33:29Sparkling.
33:30While the season's
33:31star prepares
33:32to entertain
33:33husband Steve
33:34struggling
33:34with a sound issue
33:35backstage.
33:36It's something
33:37very, very simple.
33:39Very simple.
33:41Like so many
33:41of these things
33:42are, aren't they?
33:42It's so, so simple.
33:45Don't do yourself
33:46down, Steve.
33:46You're quite
33:47the bright spark.
33:48It was just
33:49the wires
33:49in the wrong place.
33:50We just changed
33:51them around.
33:52We tried everything
33:52else, just changed
33:54the wires around.
33:55Phew, that's a relief.
33:56Well, if all goes well,
33:57it could mean
33:58a regular booking.
34:00Ready to Sparkle.
34:02Ready for showbiz.
34:04You never know
34:05what night's
34:06going to be
34:06to you, Ben.
34:07You never know.
34:09Despite decades
34:10of experience
34:11in entertainment,
34:12you're only as good
34:13as your last show.
34:14He has 60 seconds
34:16to change.
34:18So, uh,
34:19sometimes it's
34:19very good,
34:20sometimes it's not.
34:21After you've done
34:22Dolly, can we
34:23get me tights on?
34:24Yes, of course
34:25we can.
34:26Things are shaping
34:27up nicely.
34:28Can we get
34:29enough false
34:29speech, please?
34:31False speech.
34:32Ta-da!
34:34Our own drama queen
34:36with a spark
34:37and a young gentleman.
34:40And before you can
34:41say, look at that
34:42whopping headdress,
34:43it's showtime.
34:44Oh, hello.
34:46How are you doing
34:47to try your own?
34:51As per the last
34:5220-something years,
34:53we enjoy working.
34:56Obviously, we can't
34:57do as much
34:58as we'd like to do
34:58because of my head
34:59I'm still very young,
35:00but obviously
35:01your body gets
35:02a little bit older.
35:03But after 50 years
35:04performing,
35:05this veteran Brit
35:06still got talent.
35:08Why would you?
35:10Thank you, Ben.
35:14But will that stellar
35:24performance seal the
35:25deal for your weekly
35:26slot?
35:27Well, your bar debut
35:44was blooming marvellous.
35:46You've got the gig,
35:47so it's time to
35:48salsa the night
35:49away to celebrate.
35:53Coming up...
35:54It's pins, grins
35:57and wins
35:57at Laurie's
35:58surprise birthday party.
35:59Oh, no, Brad!
36:02Do you know what
36:03GOAT stands for?
36:04And is the greatest
36:05GOAT lover of all time
36:07Jill's latest
36:08enterprise a success?
36:09Three, two, one.
36:11There you go.
36:19Arriba, odendro,
36:21eva, odendro.
36:23Us Brits never say no
36:25to a cheese and wine party,
36:27even in the Malaga Hills.
36:29I learned something today.
36:30Do you know what GOAT
36:32stands for?
36:33In today's modern world
36:35of texting, etc, etc, etc.
36:37called
36:39Greatest of All Times.
36:41What could Jill's
36:42new attractions
36:42become the greatest
36:43of all time
36:44for paying guests
36:45as her B&B?
36:47Everyone happy?
36:48Very happy.
36:49Oh, wow.
36:51I'm actually quite
36:52upset.
36:53It's come to an end.
36:55I'm a bit sad.
36:56I'm very sad, actually.
36:57I'm filling up.
36:58I really didn't want
36:59it to end.
37:00It's just been such
37:00a perfect day.
37:03There we go.

37:04to the cold.
37:06Oh.
37:06Oh, oh.
37:08Mucho gracia.
37:10Muy bien.
37:11Just hope the soap
37:12carries on and lives
37:13up to it.
37:14Just hope the soap
37:15doesn't let us
37:16down at the end.
37:17So do Amri.
37:19The soap should
37:20have a good 24 hours
37:22at room temperature
37:23to set.
37:24Fingers crossed
37:24popping them
37:25in Jill's fridge
37:26did the job.
37:27Three, two, one.
37:29There you go.
37:31Lower the down.
37:32They look to have set.
37:33Oh, they're set, Jill.

37:36Whee!
37:37It's not bad
37:38for a first go.
37:39I think the soap
37:40could work.
37:42Doing the soap
37:42could work.
37:43Just don't do
37:44the two.
37:45Yeah, just do one.
37:46Just do this.
37:47Do one and maybe
37:48concentrate more
37:48on doing,
37:49adding colours,
37:51things like that.
37:52Oh, there you go.
37:53There's your soaps.

37:58that hasn't set.
37:59This won't be ready
38:01to tick out
38:01of the mould yet.
38:05Well, you'd be
38:06hard pushed
38:06to lose that bar
38:07in the shower
38:07anyway, Chico.
38:09Wow, nice.
38:11I think this is
38:12a very good idea.
38:13This is a good chance
38:16to offer the guests
38:18the things we have
38:19around.
38:19This is good
38:21for everyone, you know?
38:23Oh, that is gorgeous.

38:37to what she wants to do,
38:39it will definitely
38:40take off.

38:41I think she will
38:42make her a success
38:43of it.

39:15I think I've met
39:16two or three people
39:17very happy.

39:46is a very good bowler
39:47indeed.
39:48I've never seen him

39:49so this is going to be
39:50very interesting
39:51and Jerry and I
39:52have a little competition
39:53actually every time
39:54we play
39:54which is about
39:55once every five

40:15Shaney's pulled out
40:16all the stops
40:17to give the love
40:18of her life
40:18Laurie a birthday
40:19to remember
40:20by getting the old

41:40actually crushing us
41:41at the moment
41:41so we might have to
41:43employ some really
41:43nasty underhand
41:45tactics soon.
41:46At the moment
41:46we'll let them get
41:47away with it though.
