00:05Australian miner Canon Resources is on track to produce its first shipment of bauxite from
00:11Cameroon in Central Africa. Bauxite is the primary ore used in the production of aluminium
00:17metal, a highly sought after critical commodity in the new energy era.
00:22At the moment our current project is raw material bauxite but we are looking at downstream
00:29so we're doing a feasibility study on a refinery in the country as well. We should come out third
00:33quarter calendar years this year. The topic of critical minerals dominated discussions at the
00:39mining in Daba in Cape Town. African governments are seeking ways to leverage their vast mineral
00:44deposits amid the global scramble for resources, not just to mine them but to build local industries
00:50around them. You manage that when you create all the environment in all spheres of the activities
01:00to enable companies to invest in transformation in value addition of the terminal. You know we are
01:09creating the enabling infrastructure in terms not only of the geological infrastructure but as of energy,
01:17water, railways, roads, that is what matters. Efforts to unlock logistics, infrastructure and policy
01:26bottlenecks through public-private partnerships will be decisive in determining whether critical mineral
01:32projects can reach scale. There will be creation of employment, skilled jobs that will be created within the
01:39continent. There will also be strengthening of governance where we will be forced to put in place rules and
01:46regulations and procedures to ensure the sustainable mining that's happening within our continent.
01:52The message here at the mining in Daba is clear. African countries no longer want to be exploited for their
01:57resources. The continent wants to become a global hub for mining and mineral-based products that grows
02:04communities and builds economies.
