02:09regardless of which platform they're on
02:11and then kicking it old school
02:14we can play two player co-op on consoles
02:16on the couch together just like we did
02:18back in the original.
02:20What do you have to do differently
02:22to account now for four people running around?
02:24For different co-op counts
02:26we will make some of the spaces larger
02:27we also want to make sure we're authentic to the encounters themselves
02:30so it's a balancing act between
02:31that difficulty tuning and
02:33making those encounters the right size
02:36for the right space.
02:36I understand that we've done some
02:38special tune-up works to the
02:40beloved Warthog. We have.
02:42There's a new seat. What I like to call the
02:44golf cart seat or the bumper seat.
02:46This is on the back of the Warthog so now you can
02:48bring everyone with.
02:50Mind if I join you? Let's talk a little bit
02:52about one of my favorite aspects of
02:54the Halo franchise. What is a skull?
02:57What's cool about it? What does it do?
02:58A skull is a gameplay modifier
03:00generally mean-spirited.
03:02It makes the game more challenging for the player.
03:05The combination of pairing of these different skulls
03:09and how that's going to
03:10create that new gameplay experience. Huge
03:12amount of replay options for folks.
03:13I love the replayability that skulls bring to a
03:16campaign. It's just there's almost
03:18endless variety. We have dozens of skulls
03:20this time. The most that we've ever had
03:22in a Halo game. Are you a lasso guy?
03:24I think you yourself told me that you don't think
03:26anyone would ever be able to complete this game
03:28with legendary all skulls on. I don't think
03:30so. I mean there's there's a lot and so
03:32if you can do a true
03:34legendary all skulls on run
03:36let us know. I'd love to see it.
03:38I think that'd be really hard.
03:40If there's one thing that this community has
03:42shown us is do not underestimate them
03:44and they will find a way.
03:47So Halo's always been known
03:48for its sandbox. How has this evolved?
03:51We made sure that anything we included
03:53isn't going to drastically change
03:54the way the game plays. They change the
03:56sandbox in a drastic way but there's some really
03:58fun kind of additions and that's across
04:00you know enemies, weapons, vehicles,
04:02things that in the original CE weren't
04:04able to do before that you now can. You
04:06finally kill the elite with the sword. That
04:07weapon hits the floor and you can pick
04:08that up and just you know kind of really
04:10take it to the enemy.
04:14The sound is funny.
04:17All these weapons by the way have been
04:19painstakingly remodeled, rebuilt,
04:21higher fidelity. How do all these things
04:23kind of come to life?
04:24That comes across through the way they
04:26look, the way they sound, the effects, the
04:30actual panels on the weapons themselves,
04:32the ammo counters.
04:33With Unreal the fully dynamic lighting
04:34within Lumen allows us to get those
04:36effects, right? That rich plasma lighting
04:38up and brightening the environment.
04:40Of course one of the hallmark elements
04:43of Halo's CE is what becomes kind of a
04:45three-way battle with the introduction of
04:47the Flood.
04:48There was quite a bit of development
04:50between Halo's CE and 3 to kind of how
04:52the Flood behaved and just how they
04:54interacted with the player. So we've pulled a
04:55lot of those Flood behaviors into this game.
04:58And I would say this is a learning
04:59specifically from CE to anniversary,
05:01which is just kind of that mood, the
05:03atmosphere, the tension, the horror,
05:05and really delivering on that from the way
05:07that we staged the encounters and the
05:09setup and how we reveal the Flood.
05:11In Halo Legacy there were some
05:13pure form units. We've pulled in a
05:16familiar friend, familiar fiend, if you
05:18will, to challenge the player.
05:21Talk to me just a little bit about how
05:23we're approaching the narrative aspects to
05:25bring it up to the same level as the
05:27rest of this game.
05:29We want to tell an authentic story and
05:31we want to level up the cinematics
05:33from the source.
05:35As we were building this out, we didn't
05:37just kind of put a new coat of paint
05:39over the original cinematics, right?
05:40We ended up revisiting exactly how they
05:42were blocked out, how they were sequenced,
05:44how they were put together, and we've
05:45done that across the board.
05:46We have access to original source assets,
05:48original source code, and access to the
05:50original storyboards. We are remastering,
05:52remixing the music to go along with these
05:54cinematics.
05:55We also had the core principal cast come
05:57in and re-record all the lines.
05:59How much firepower would you need to
06:00crack one of the engine shields?
06:02This really provides a degree of
06:03fidelity that we weren't able to do for
06:04Halo Anniversary.
06:05Now would be a very good time to leave.
06:09I'm super excited that this game will
06:11include three brand new bonus missions.
06:14Tell me a little bit about that.
06:16It was really important that we
06:17preserve the original story as it is.
06:19So these missions specifically are meant to
06:21be a prequel setup for the main course.
06:24These new missions are going to offer
06:25some new opportunities for character
06:27interactions maybe between Chief and Johnson.
06:30We've got some new mechanics, some AI behaviors,
06:33things that haven't been done before in Halo CU.
06:36I think we're just getting started.
06:41So where are we right now at this stage
06:43in development? What can you share with us?
06:44In the past few weeks we've been able
06:45to start engaging and sending builds out
06:46to some of our community members.
06:48We can now see so many of the elements of the level
06:51really coming together.
06:54There's a point in every game's life cycle
06:56where it kind of just comes online.
06:58Seeing really high fidelity versions of cinematics,
07:01elements of the sandbox and encounter tweaks
07:03and the lighting.
07:05You go to someone's desk and give feedback live on an experience
07:08and to me that's like a really exciting time in game development.
07:10The ultimate love letter to the game that started it all.
07:13I would call upon our entire Halo community
07:16to welcome with open arms this next generation of players.
07:20I'm excited to just relive these experiences again for the first time.
07:25That's what I'm going to play around the game.
07:28You won't play any play out.
07:30I'm going to be in the game.
07:33Let's take a look.
07:37I'll be going to be in the game...
07:40I'm going to go.
