00:00So I saw the first episode of Back to the Future and the idea that Doc controlled the DeLorean with
00:08the remote control just always stayed with me. I just had to try.
00:21The movie was definitely a big inspiration for me to start this project.
00:25A lot of people tell me I'm crazy to build these kind of things.
00:32Building this car wasn't easy.
00:36My name is Bjorn Harms.
00:39My latest project, the only one in the world, the remote control DeLorean from Back to the Future.
00:53The entire process took me around six months to build it and another three months to make it more safe
01:01and reliable.
01:19I even built the Futaba controller from Doc just like in the movie and it even works exactly like in
01:27the movie.
01:27This is the remote control and it also has of course a lot of functions.
01:32This is the on and off switch.
01:34The moment I hit the switch to off, the entire failsafe system will go on.
01:40So that means that the brake will start braking and the throttle will come loose and the car will stop.
01:46I can also activate the lights.
01:49I can shift the gear lever to reverse drive and back to park.
01:57Of course I can also steer.
01:59And of course throttle.
02:02Ignition.
02:06And starting.
02:14One of the hardest things to build was definitely the steering.
02:18Because the steering axle in the DeLorean isn't power steering.
02:24So that was a big issue.
02:25So I removed the original steering axle from the DeLorean and I replaced it with a power steering from a
02:33Opel Corsa.
02:33And hooked that up to my RC system.
02:37It's always a little bit scary the first time where you try it on the road.
02:42The DeLorean is still road legal with the remote control system.
02:46The engine size is a V6 2.8 liters and it has around 130 horsepower.
02:53Current speed it's around maybe 150, 160 kilometers an hour max.
02:59The weight of it is around 1250 kilograms.
03:03And with all the modifications on it from Back to the Future it's around 1500 kilograms give or take.
03:11In the past I've also built different cars.
03:17The first Ridiculous Ride Show did so great and I'm very pleased with it.
03:22I got a lot of comments on Facebook and YouTube.
03:25A lot of positive and fun comments.
03:28I sold the Corvette for I believe 28,000 euros.
03:34I have to say that I get more reactions to this car than to the remote control Corvette I've built.
03:41The fans definitely go crazy when they see this car.
03:44You can't just take this car out for a normal drive.
03:48I think the value of the car with this RC system should be around give or take 75 to 80
03:55thousand dollars.
03:58I'm definitely proud of what I've achieved with this car.
04:02I'm always open for new projects and other remote control cars maybe life size.
04:09So if somebody has a nice project for me so it's a minima.
