00:00Pure Pucks with Biz.
00:01Paul B. Sinet now joining us on behalf of the DraftKings Sportsbook,
00:05where you can bet Winter Olympic ice hockey tournament,
00:08or ice hockey rather, all tournament long.
00:11Paul B. Sinet, thanks for joining us here.
00:14Hey, boys.
00:14Sorry, I guess you guys are having a hard time reaching me.
00:17I'm in Canada currently, so maybe it's my service,
00:20but happy we got connected and looking forward to talking a little bit of puck
00:24with you boys.
00:24Okay, let's game it out.
00:27U.S. and Canada.
00:28Does the U.S. have a real shot in this thing,
00:31or are we kind of wish-casting here?
00:33Oh, no, absolutely.
00:35This is probably the best team that you guys have ever assembled,
00:38even despite having a few injuries.
00:40And even a few guys, I mean, look at a few guys that are off your roster,
00:46like Cole Caulfield and Jason Robertson.
00:49That's how deep this U.S. team is.
00:51And actually, I believe right now more of the money at DraftKings
00:56is being bet on the Americans.
00:58A little bit more juice than the Canadians.
01:01I believe that they're clicking U.S. at plus 175 and Canada's plus 125.
01:06But if they met in a one-game final, in my opinion, it's a coin toss.
01:11I think you guys have the slight advantage in net, slight advantage on D.
01:16And up front, I would say it's the Canadians.
01:19But it's awesome to see what the United States has done as far as growing the game.
01:23And I think you guys saw the uproar after Four Nations last year
01:27and kind of where the game is headed in, I mean, not only the United States,
01:31but even across the world.
01:32If it's not U.S.-Canada in the gold medal game, what happened?
01:37Like, who would have played spoiler and who could possibly be standing in the way?
01:45There's a lot of good nations.
01:47Like, last time I just had the game on, it was 3-1 Slovakia over Finland,
01:50where Finland is typically, like, you would put them probably in fourth or fifth place,
01:55depending on if Russia is in a tournament.
01:58Obviously, for obvious reasons, Russia's not in the Olympics representing hockey this year
02:03and all the other sports.
02:04But I would say the number one frontrunner, as opposed to Canada-U.S. winning the gold,
02:10is going to be Sweden, which they actually have incredible odds on DraftKings at plus 650 right now.
02:17They would be a type of team that I would be worried about meeting in a matchup in the semifinals.
02:23Like, just they always have good goaltending.
02:24They play very structured.
02:27You know, they have a little bit of, like, they have a mix between finesse, structure, physicality.
02:34And typically, when they come together at national tournaments,
02:37they just really play for one another, and they're always down to play spoiler.
02:41Like, I know Hank, Henrik Lundqvist, I don't know what Olympic it was.
02:45Maybe it was 2006.
02:47They ended up winning the Olympic Games, I believe.
02:50And so they always have a very competitive team.
02:53So I would list the top fours.
02:55Canada is number one.
02:56U.S. is 1B.
02:58Then I would put Sweden just behind them.
03:00And I would have had Finland.
03:02But, I mean, that's a pretty significant loss if they end up losing that game that they were down 3
03:06-1.
03:07So I don't know what the current score is.
03:08But it's nice to see the rest of the nations catching up and hockey growing the way that it's done.
03:13We got the Olympic break.
03:15Bruins in playoff position.
03:17Second wild card.
03:1869 points.
03:1957 games played.
03:20They're four up on Columbus with a game out of hand, as we like to say.
03:24Are the Bruins a playoff team?
03:27They are.
03:28They just have to be a little bit more disciplined.
03:30Like, I love how they brought the big, bad Bruins back.
03:33Like, Zdorov has been awesome for them.
03:35Although, the most penalized player over the last five years in the NHL.
03:39And I think as a team, Boston's the most penalized team.
03:42So, typically, in the past, they have always had, you know, great goaltending, good structure, and good special teams.
03:51Right now, the penalty kill is letting them down.
03:53But that, to me, is a result of overuse.
03:56Like, they've got to just dial it back.
03:58And the good news for Boston is, typically, as the season progresses and as you get into playoffs,
04:03they allow for more of that physicality that goes uncalled.
04:07So, I just, I like the way that they're built.
04:10I think there's a lot of guys having big years for them.
04:13And if they, you know, if they keep up with Swayman playing the way that he's playing,
04:17I definitely think they're a surprise team.
04:19And I wouldn't want to meet them first round, either.
04:21Because, you know, even if the other team ends up winning the series,
04:24you're leaving, they're leaving with their pound of flesh, Boston.
04:28So, you know, as much criticism as Sweeney and Cam Neely took probably last year,
04:35at the beginning of the year, not only with the way the roster was built,
04:38but also with the way they handled the Swayman situation,
04:41and maybe, you know, parting with Allmark too quick as a result of that,
04:45I think it's all worked out now.
04:47But they deserve some praise on how they, you know, they recalibrated this lineup.
04:52Speaking of Sweeney, you had to appreciate him calling you out by name
04:56during one of his press conferences with some of the stuff you guys have been saying.
04:59I think that was the Swayman stuff, right, that he called out?
05:03I think, I think he, yeah, he was, yeah, he definitely was taking a shot at chicklets
05:10for being critical of, he was, he was saying, he said that his kid was a big fan of me
05:16on TNT.
05:16I think he was trying to go maybe a little bit more after wit.
05:20But, hey, listen, I'm a ride or die with wit, so we'll both take it on the chin.
05:25But I think we were fair in our, in the way that we broke it down.
05:30I just personally, unless I had a verbal agreement or had talked and came to a,
05:35at least close with Swayman, I wouldn't have parted with Allmark until that was the case.
05:41It kind of left them with, I guess, not as much leverage,
05:44and then they tried to play hardball, and then it just got messy in training camp.
05:48And, you know, they were trying to carry that momentum off from the season before,
05:51and it just feel like it really, it really put a damper on things last season.
05:55Do you guys agree with that?
05:56Oh, yeah, definitely.
05:58Big time.
05:58That was, yeah, it hung over the whole year, yeah.
06:01It definitely was off to a slow start, and then it never really got a whole lot better.
06:04You seem to have a more kind of playful rivalry with Brad Marchand.
06:09Speaking of getting called out, Biz, this is the guy who Marchand said is a clown,
06:15and he's lucky to have, they should take his job, is Rich Keefe.
06:18He is not a fan of me.
06:20You and he go at it pretty good.
06:22Florida right now lasts in the division.
06:25What do you expect?
06:25Do you think those guys have enough time to turn it around?
06:30I would never count them out, and I think it's a one-sided rivalry between me and Brad.
06:36Like, he's stuffed me in a locker quite a few times,
06:39but definitely would love more players like Brad Marchand in the league
06:43to have fun with and be so quick on their feet in interviews.
06:46I think that the fans love that type of stuff,
06:48and it definitely shows more of what the personality that is actually going on in the locker room.
06:53I feel like hockey players are a little bit more buttoned up, reserved,
06:56and they don't want to fall.
06:58You know, they don't want to come outside the line.
07:00They want to stay in line for the most part,
07:01and that's just, I think that's just a good nature of hockey guys and that team mentality.
07:07But as far as Florida's concerned, like I said, I would never count them out.
07:10But if there is a case they don't make playoffs, one, you've got to hope if you're Chicago
07:16that they end up getting a draft pick outside of the top 10.
07:20So they're kind of in a similar situation that Toronto's in with that Carlo trade,
07:24where I don't think a lot of people realize that Zito had top 10 protected that Seth Jones trade.
07:31So if they end up missing playoffs and they get a top 10 pick,
07:37they get to get a significant prospect and then be healthy and completely loaded going into next season.
07:44So I would definitely assume that they make a run and slide into playoffs.
07:50But if it's not the case, they're going to be still loaded for years to come.
07:54Paul Beesonette, you're here today for DraftKings.
07:56I want to ask you that, or about that rather, coming up.
07:59But Spittin' Chicklets, and you just mentioned getting called out by Sweeney and Chicklets.
08:03I've made the transition.
08:05You made the transition to Netflix.
08:06How is that transition going?
08:08And where do you think the rest of the industry podcast is going?
08:13Paul, your guess is as good as mine.
08:16Since I've been involved in media, the landscape has changed so much.
08:20The streaming situation, the fact that a player as big as Netflix
08:26is now interested in sports podcasts and really that podcasting space in general.
08:31It's been awesome.
08:33And they've helped facilitate some fun interviews for us.
08:36And we're just hoping to get better contacts and in better situations to better our product.
08:42And yeah, they've been first class and very quick to figure things out.
08:47First, we were able to be in the United States, and we had to wait on Canada.
08:51So some other things were set up.
08:53We were told it might take a couple months.
08:55Ended up only taking a couple weeks.
08:57They're very open and receptive to ideas where potentially there might be a chat
09:02or at least a comment section.
09:04Because I feel like the fans, I mean, even you probably noticed this from your own,
09:09they want to have their own voice and their own opinion on your product.
09:12So they want to tweet at you.
09:13They want to leave Instagram comments if you're posting that.
09:16And in situations where we were doing live podcasts on YouTube,
09:21they were able to comment and interact in real time.
09:25So those are all ideas and things that Netflix are receptive to,
09:28and they're continuing to work towards becoming a better podcast platform,
09:32including trying to open it up to the UK, Australia,
09:36and other European countries where we also have fans.
09:39So it's been a pleasure, man.
09:41I never thought in a million years when I hopped on board with Chicklets
09:45and started my media career that it would end up where it is.
09:48And as far as your question about where is this going, boys, your guess is as good as mine.
09:53We might be on Mars before we know it.
09:56Well, like speaking of, you know, you can't believe it in a million years,
09:59like growing up in Canada and watching Wayne Gretzky play,
10:02like I'm sure everybody growing up, you're about the same age as we are,
10:06to then like fast forward and now you work with him on TNT.
10:09He's been on your podcast, like you know him, he knows you.
10:12Is that, how surreal is that to be, you know, close to Wayne Gretzky?
10:18It's, yeah, it's pretty crazy.
10:20It's like a, it's like a pinch me moment every time.
10:22And the fact that like he's still willing to like grow the game and do everything that he does,
10:27like buddy, if I would have had the career he had,
10:30I would have, I'd be on a private island somewhere just chilling and sipping margaritas.
10:34Right.
10:35But he loves the game so much.
10:37It's all he wants to talk about.
10:38He's calling guys nonstop every day, just talking shop.
10:42You know, what do you think about this?
10:44You know, so it's, it's pretty cool.
10:46Like, you know, it's clear that the best players in the game are the ones that are the most addicted
10:51to it.
10:51And it's no, no surprise, like how, how, how engaged and how involved he is.
10:56And, you know, they call him the great one, obviously because he was the player that he is,
11:01but mostly it's for how he treats people and the way he is off the ice.
11:05Like he is just the typical guy's guy.
11:08You know, just love, like I said, loves talking shop, talking hockey and,
11:12and just tries to give back any chance he gets.
11:15So I love him.
11:16I'm forever grateful.
11:17The reason it all kind of went down, the backstory is, is I would, like I still do.
11:23I hang out with his kids and they were going to ASU and he was coaching the coyotes.
11:28And then after they kind of parted ways, the market was down.
11:32So he ended up keeping his home there.
11:34And it was, it was my buddy, Joey Superstein, Ty and Trevor who were going to school.
11:39And I think Trevor was also, he would have been drafted by the Cubs.
11:43So he was doing like the spring training down there.
11:46And, you know, we, I would just hang out with them.
11:48And then when the job opportunity came about with TNT and he agreed to do it,
11:53Trevor, his son was like, you guys, Trevor and Ty, they were like, you should try to try biz out.
11:58And so they, they, they reached out to me, which I thought was one of Witt's buddies fully playing a
12:03prank.
12:03He's a prankster.
12:04So I'm like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:06I'm going to be sitting on a panel next to Wayne.
12:08Okay.
12:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:10Like who's blowing smoke up my ass here.
12:12And sure enough, I flew down in Atlanta.
12:15I tried out with Liam and Anson and, and the rest is history.
12:18So shout out to Ty and Trevor for the hookup.
12:21Seriously.
12:22That's awesome.
12:23Yeah.
12:24Yeah.
12:24A little partying when I was, without the coyotes really paid off.
12:27Big time.
12:29Big time.
12:30We had, we had a few rookie parties over there.
12:32Like I remember we, when I was at the coyotes, Adrian, a coin, we were in Nashville and he spotted
12:38Tom Green, who he's probably a lot more famous for guys, probably our age.
12:44Maybe the younger generation isn't as aware, like Freddie got fingered and like his original, he's a kind of road
12:51trip and everything else.
12:52Yeah.
12:54Joe Rogan gives him credit for the podcasting idea.
12:57Like he went to his studio.
12:58So we ended up linking up with Tom Green and Tom Green just so happened.
13:02He was doing standup and in Phoenix one time we were going over to one of these parties at, at
13:06their house.
13:07And we had Trevor playing the piano, Tom Green's playing the guitar.
13:11It was just like, like I'm a kid from well in Ontario, 50,000.
13:14The fact that it's, it's turned out the way it's turned out and all these crazy wild rides, man, it
13:19was a, it was a blast.
13:21So shout out to Tom Green and the Gretzky boys.
13:23How about that?
13:25Well, very cool story.
13:26It would be a cool story if the U S at least from our perspective, biz wound up winning gold.
13:31Uh, you're here courtesy of draft Kings where you can bet the winter Olympic ice hockey tournament, all tournament long.
13:37Uh, anything else we should be eyeballing?
13:39You mentioned some of the, uh, uh, the favorites, any other bets you got in at draft Kings?
13:44Uh, I would say that, uh, well, gee, that's a great question.
13:49Like I said, I would definitely sprinkle a little bit on Sweden, given that they're plus six 50, because it's,
13:55if they end up meeting us in a, in a, or Canada in a semifinals, like it's, if they get
14:00good goaltending,
14:01they got the players, man, they got, they got great.
14:03So I would definitely sprinkle a bit on that.
14:05And I know you guys don't want to hear this, but hammer the Canadians because that's our game, right?
14:09It's true.
14:11But you know, who does look good in a well-oiled machine and who right now I would, I would
14:15put probably my life savings on guaranteeing that USA, USA women's.
14:21Did you guys watch that game against Canada?
14:23I watched some of it.
14:24Yeah.
14:25That's our game.
14:27That's our game.
14:27That's our game.
14:28Edwards.
14:28They, they, they looked like they were playing a different league.
14:32Like they, it looked like Cole Caulfield and Jason Robertson were playing in it.
14:35Like that's how much, you know, I was like, ah, check what's going on over there.
14:40But they, the USA women's look, look unbelievable.
14:44They're, they're a well-oiled machine and Canada went with a more veteran group.
14:48So I hope they learn from that five, nothing shellacking and bring their a game.
14:53Now, no, no, no, no excuses, but Canada, the women's did not have a plan.
15:00So she, she is like the Canadian goat.
15:03As far as women's hockey is concerned, she was injured with a lower body injury.
15:06So I think that if you were to want to make a little easy money, if she's still out of
15:12lineup, I would hammer the U S in the women's.
15:15All right.
15:16Empty the, empty the life savings.
15:18He says, yeah, I'm not, you know, I'm not going to be a complete Homer here.
15:22I love the Canadians and I want the Canadian women's to figure it out.
15:25But like I said, the U S women just look very, very strong right now.
15:29Okay.
15:30Make your bets at DraftKings.
15:32All courtesy of DraftKings, boys.
15:33Big time.
15:33Thank you so much.
15:34And make sure to gamble responsibly.
15:36Okay.
15:37If it's for fun.
15:38Okay.
15:38It's the only way we gamble.
15:40That's it.
15:41Yeah.
15:41Yeah.
15:43Sorry with that, boys.
15:44No, all good.
15:45When you go, when you got life savings, like we do, you can bet it all.
15:47It's not, it's not, we're not losing that much.
15:49Well, you can follow him on Twitter at biz nasty 2.0.
15:52Make your bets at DraftKings.
15:54Paul B.
15:54Sinet.
15:54We appreciate the time.
15:55Thanks so much.
15:57Yeah.
15:57You guys are the best.
15:59Biz joining us here.
16:00Pure pucks with biz.
16:02That's great.
16:03That was, I mean, I'm not surprised.
16:05He's fantastic.
16:07What a, what a Gretzky story.
16:08Partying with the Gretzky kids, brag.
16:11Yeah.
16:11And next thing you know is sitting there on the set with the, with the great one.
16:14So good advice.
16:15If you know, if there's famous people in your orbit in any way, hang out with their kids,
16:21work your way into that circle.
16:22You never know what could happen.
16:23Party with their children.
16:24Next thing you know, boom, Netflix.
16:26Rocket ship to the moon.
16:27Yeah.
16:28Okay.
16:28Nice.
16:29Well, we're going to have to do an abbreviated bag, but a bag.
16:32Nonetheless, we got clip du jour on the way.
