00:00From the 1960s until very recently, this man is suspected of having sexually assaulted 89 teenagers.
00:07Now, French courts are launching an unprecedented appeal for witnesses.
00:12Using seven photos of the same man who is believed to have been active on five continents for decades,
00:18the man is 79-year-old Jacques Leveugle.
00:20The courts are attempting to retrace his movements and identify his victims.
00:26We are, of course, looking for victims for whom we only have nicknames and who are still difficult to identify,
00:32as well as people who may have known him during his criminal career
00:35and who might shed some light on Mr Leveugle's personality for the investigators and the magistrate.
00:41The case began more than two years ago when Jacques Leveugle was visiting his brother in Visille in the south
00:47-east of France.
00:48His nephew discovered a USB stick with notes and photos.
00:51In them, Jacques Leveugle describes his sexual relations with teenagers aged 13 to 17, referred to by their first names.
00:59The assaults had been committed since 1967.
01:03He also recounted killing two of his relatives by suffocating them.
01:09First, his mother in 1974, when she was terminally ill with cancer.
01:18And then, more recently, in 1992, his aunt, his mother's sister.
01:26With this appeal for witnesses, the police are attempting to go back in time and plot the journey of this
01:32globetrotter,
01:33who was in turn a teacher, educator and caving instructor.
01:36He was in Europe, Africa, Asia, but also in South America and as far as New Caledonia.
01:43Jacques Leveugle admitted to the facts and expressed remorse.
01:46He's still being held in detention.
