00:00France's Assisted Dying Bill
00:02Claims vs. Facts
00:08French President Emmanuel Macron
00:09pledged to introduce an Assisted Dying Law
00:12after his re-election in 2022.
00:14Since then, the proposed law
00:16has faced intense criticism
00:18focusing mainly on its eligibility criteria,
00:21which some opulents describe
00:22as too broad or insufficiently defined.
00:25On X, there has been
00:26a range of conflicting claims too.
00:28For example, users suggest the end-of-life bill
00:30could allow people suffering from depression
00:32to access euthanasia.
00:33So what does the draft law actually say?
00:35According to the text,
00:37access to medical assistance in dying
00:39requires constant, intolerable,
00:41physical or psychological suffering
00:42that is incorrigible and linked to a serious condition.
00:45At first glance, the wording raises questions.
00:48In the initial version of the bill,
00:50the text was explicit.
00:51Psychological suffering alone
00:53could never justify access to assistance in dying.
00:56In the current version,
00:57that provision has been removed.
00:59So what exactly does psychological suffering mean
01:01in this context?
01:03This week, I meet for the first time
01:05a patient who, after a mammography,
01:07finds a cancer of the skin.
01:08Forcedly, for this patient,
01:09the announcement of this disease
01:10has already evolved
01:11is a terrible effect in her life,
01:14knowing that she has no symptoms,
01:16but that she discovered this cancer
01:17on a routine exam.
01:18This discovery
01:19is placed in a great psychological distress
01:21and so she has both
01:22a grave and advanced disease
01:24and a psychological distress
01:25which can give her access to euthanasia
01:27before the treatment
01:29or the treatment of health
01:30had been proposed.
01:31French lawmakers insist
01:33that applicants must meet
01:34all five main eligibility criteria
01:37set out in the bill.
01:38On the 4th of February,
01:39the National Assembly Social Affairs Committee
01:41approved a revised bill
01:43to establish the right to assisted dying.
01:45With more debates and votes
01:47scheduled for February,
01:48the president of the National Assembly
01:50hopes the law will be fully adopted
01:52before the summer.
01:57on the 3rd of January,
01:58she opened to 118 data
01:59thinking inziehen andиссем
