00:00The administration's ramped-up efforts to curb money laundering not only seeks to hold into account the plunderers and thieves who stole from government coffers by way of a massive flood control project scam.
00:12It also seeks to restore the nation's repute on the world financial stage as a country that is serious against money laundering, which augurs well for credibility among investors and financiers, as our Clazel Pardelia reports.
00:25Malacanang is stepping up its anti-money laundering campaign, expanding investigations into alleged irregularities involving flood control projects.
00:39This is part of a broader effort to protect the country's financial system and ensure the Philippines remains of the Financial Action Task Force Graylist, a watchlist of jurisdictions with strategic deficiencies in combating money laundering.
01:10The palace also confirmed that assets linked to those involved in questionable flood control projects are being targeted.
01:18More than 4,600 bank accounts have been placed under freeze order by the Anti-Money Laundering Council.
01:26It aims to prevent the movement of funds allegedly connected to the scandal.
01:42This move reflects the government's broader anti-corruption drive and its commitment to financial transparency.
01:51Staying off the Graylist is crucial, not only for reputational credibility, but also to attract foreign investment and position the Philippines as a stable investment destination.
02:27Meanwhile, the Office of the Executive Secretary is reviewing the 125-day accomplishment report of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, or ICI,
02:39a report expected to shed light on other individuals allegedly involved in the misuse of public funds for flood control projects.
02:49Kaleizal Pardilia from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
