00:01Reconstruction efforts in Gaza do not only involve homes and buildings.
00:06Historical and archaeological sites in the Strip have also been damaged.
00:10Saving these sites may seem like a difficult task, but it is not impossible.
00:16This is Hammam al-Samra. It is 800 years old and dates back to the Mamluk era.
00:22It ranks second in archaeological and historical importance after the Great Omari Mosque.
00:27In Gaza, many of the buildings such as Hammam al-Bashar, Askar, Denbashar, Assamra and others.
00:35It has been affected all over the years of history.
00:40However, the Assamra was protected for us until October 2023.
00:49Israeli shelling destroyed nearly 90% of the bathhouses' roofs and all of its walls visible above ground.
00:56However, parts of the underground walls remained relatively intact.
01:01Restoration experts are currently implementing an initiative to save the historic bathhouse,
01:06with support from UNESCO, in preparation for the reconstruction and restoration phase.
