00:07searching for fragments of the bones of his wife and children.

00:11Abu Ismail Hamad sits atop what was once his home in Gaza.

00:17He lost his wife and six children in an Israeli strike.

00:21And now he is left with one duty,

00:24to find enough remains to grant them a dignified burial.

00:27There are no heavy machines to lift the debris,

00:31no fuel to clear the way for civil defense equipment.

00:34So he returns to the simplest tools at hand,

00:38a shovel, a pickaxe, and a sieve.
