00:00Catching up before season three, can you help us get to speed on where Jax Stewart is since season two?
00:06Where is she at mentally, and what should audience really expect this season?
00:11You know, in this season, Jax is leaning into more of her soft girl era a little bit.
00:17You know, she's enjoying her peace, much-deserved peace, after everything that's happened this last season and the season prior.
00:26So Jax is really kind of taking it in.
00:29You know, she's easing back into work, and her relationship is in a great place, you know, so she's feeling good.
00:36And at the same time, she's a little bored, you know.
00:39The other side of that, Jax likes action.
00:42She likes things to be moving.
00:44That's the pace that she needs.
00:46So she's getting a bit, you know, uncomfortable with there being so much peace, and we get to see what unfolds on this season.
00:54Okay, well, we'd love to see it.
00:56And that leads me to, are y'all team Louis?
01:00Yes?
01:01Okay.
01:02Let's give it up.
01:04All right.
01:06Okay, that leads me to my next question.
01:08I'm sure y'all will want to know.
01:10McKinley, can you please describe where Jax and Louis are with their marriage this season?
01:17First of all, thank all y'all for coming over here.
01:20I appreciate that.
01:22But, yeah, I think season three picks up where season two leaves off, which is that knock on the door and that information that we get.
01:30So a lot of it is kind of picking up where we left off and figuring out how that resolves.
01:34And also kind of figuring out the evolution of Louis and Jax's relationship in the midst of, you know, new things and old things, for sure.
01:42Always new developments with those two.
01:44They keep us on our toes.
01:46Now we have to point it to the legendary Joseph Sigour.
01:50Can we just say hello?
01:52Let's go.
01:53Can we just give him a shout real quick?
01:55So, as you know, he's entering this new season and he's playing Bill Sterling, Jax's newest co-worker in the series.
02:06Without giving away too much, how does Jax's relationship with Bill create some tension or change the dynamic?
02:14Well, Bill, you learned very early on in the first episode, Bill wants to make partner.
02:19And Bill wants to make partner by any means necessary.
02:22He's got a lot to lose and he's willing to risk a lot to make sure that that happens.
02:27So throughout the season, whether Jax knows it or not, Bill is vying for position.
02:33And I say whether Jax knows that or not, Jax knows everything that's happening in the series.
02:39But you're going to see, is Bill good?
02:41Is Bill bad?
02:42What's Bill up to?
02:44But I can only guarantee that at the end of the season, you're going to find out.
02:47Yes.
02:48And now we also have to welcome Kyle Berry to the show.
02:55Big ups for Kyle.
02:56That's right.
02:57So your case actually becomes the centerpiece of this season.
03:02Talk to us about the character Ozzy.
03:04Who is he and what can the fans expect?
03:07What's up, y'all?
03:08So I'm playing Ozzy.
03:11Ozzy is at a crossroads.
03:14I think the plight of a child star is something that the zeitgeist is leaning into right now.
03:20And his storyline kind of explores his love.
03:25The unconditional love in childhood or the lack thereof.
03:28What does that look like at the turning point of from a boy to a man?
03:32And luckily he has Jax over there to help guide him through.
03:38Definitely.
03:39And to stay on you and Joseph, because you all are the new additions to the cast,
03:45what has your experience been stepping into an established cast and with so much passion from this fan base?
03:52I mean, look at this turnout right now.
03:54Give it up to them.
03:54And, you know, so what has been your approach coming into this show and making these characters your own?
04:04It's such a joy to get to go to work on a show that you've already been a fan of.
04:09And I think that starts with Ramla Muhammad.
04:12It starts with the words.
04:14These scripts are fantastic, even from my first audition.
04:19And, yeah, I don't know.
04:20Joseph.
04:21Yeah, I will echo that sentiment, that Ramla Muhammad, her writing.
04:26And I was a fan of the show, too, because, you know, my boy Michael Ely was in season one.
04:30So, of course, I'm watching season one.
04:31And then it was so good.
04:33And then Morris Chestnut's in season two.
04:35And then, of course, I'm just like, man, what is Lewis doing with that baby?
04:38How did he do that and stepped out of the marriage?
04:39They didn't ask you that, bro.
04:41They focused.
04:41Show me.
04:42We got to stick to this.
04:43But I was really a huge fan.
04:46And so what happened to me was kind of funny, and I tell this to Emiatsi all the time, is that I was such a fan that sometimes I'd be watching her in a scene.
04:55I'd be like, oh, shit, I got a line.
04:57Let me say this line.
04:58But so it was intimidating because she's a fantastic, phenomenal actress who paints in such a multiplicity of layers.
05:06When is she going to get her awards, everybody?
05:07It better be season three.
05:09All right.
05:09Let's hear it for Emiatsi.
05:12And so back to the OGs, Emiatsi and McKinley.
05:17Having been a part of the show since the beginning, what keeps you invested in the characters and in the story specifically?
05:23Is there a moment from previous seasons that still stick with you?
05:29You know, one of my favorite moments from last season is when we got to flash back to the wedding.
05:36Y'all remember the wedding last year?
05:38Yes, beautiful.
05:39It was so beautiful.
05:41You know, and I remember when I first read, you know, that episode, it just showed me even more how we got, how we used to be and how far away we were from that.
05:51And as a couple, how could they get back to that, you know?
05:55And that's what excited me about the journey of Jackson Lewis.
05:59You know, they go through it.
06:00They're so realistic.
06:02They're a real marriage, a real couple.
06:04They have their ups and downs.
06:06We get to see them live that.
06:08And that's what keeps me invested.
06:10And then when you add to that just a wonderful, wonderful scene partner, it makes it so much fun and easy and easy.
06:17I love that.
06:18And that leads me to my next question, because as you know, the show has captivated not only our audiences here, but everywhere because of the authentic storytelling.
06:30And Onyx Collective's mission is to develop and amplify original stories from underrepresented creators.
06:37And it's amazing to see a brand champion this, like Ramla Muhammad.
06:43She has been at the forefront of change.
06:45And so could you share your experiences, each of you working with her, and speak to the authenticity of reason and doubt?
06:54Ramla is everything black, all things black.
06:57Like, she is just, that is where she starts.
07:00That's her truth.
07:01That's the essence of her story.
07:03It starts there, but it's a human story.
07:06It's a human story that everyone can relate to.
07:10And so she surrounds herself with people who are going to speak to that.
07:13That's what's most important.
07:15And all of the writers, everyone comes together.
07:17And I think it creates an environment where only truth can come from that.
07:22And so when you pair that with a company like Onyx, they've taken it on their backs and decided to make it their mission.
07:28And I think that's why the show has the amount of support that it has.
07:32Definitely.
07:33And I would just add that because M.E.
07:35Yatsi said most of it, actually.
07:37But I would just say that being in a situation in a world where a lot of shows like this are disappearing, to have the opportunity to continue to tell a compelling story is amazing.
07:46And when you start with Ramla and all the producers and taking a couple of steps back, the executives that support us, like Tara Duncan, and the folks at Onyx and Hulu and Disney, it gives us the opportunity to continue to create in a way that's authentic.
08:03Authentic.
08:04I'm struggling, y'all.
08:05Authentic.
08:06I'm struggling.
08:06Authentic.
08:07You'd be an authentic now.
08:07So it's been an absolute pleasure for sure.
08:10Yes, definitely.
08:11Ramla always reminds people to be kind to each other.
08:14So even though we're dealing sometimes with high-pressure situations, long days, intense scenes, she's like, there's no excuse not to be kind to everybody.
08:24And because of her example and her words, along with our lead, M.Eatsi, and, of course, McKinley, that vibe permeates the set.
08:34And it's contagious.
08:35And I'm so grateful that it makes you want to do your best.
08:38Right.
08:39Yeah, it feels like we're playing every day.
08:41It's on a Ramla Mohammed set, you feel safe and confident, and everyone's 8-year-old child shines through at work, from the camera department to hair and makeup.
08:52It's such a warm and encouraging environment to tell these tough stories.
08:58Right, definitely.
08:59And another question for you all.
09:01What drew you each to your characters, and how have you grown alongside them this season and the ones before that?
09:08I mean, you know, I learned a lot from Jax every season because she is a woman who she's very clear in who she is, what she wants, how she's going to go about doing it for better or for worse, whether you like it or not.
09:26Yep.
09:26And I love that about her.
09:28And I've taken some of those things, you know, for myself.
09:32And I love how she's okay with who she is.
09:35She may make a mistake.
09:37She may fail.
09:38But it doesn't matter.
09:39It doesn't matter.
09:40She still is going to be who she is.
09:42And I think that's such a great lesson, you know, just for us as women.
09:45We're always fighting, trying to please other people, be at work and our families and everything like that.
09:51And she isn't one who's trying to please anyone but herself.
09:54And, again, for better or for worse.
09:56But it's one of the things I love most about her.
09:58And we love it, too.
09:59Yeah.
10:00And we're inspired by your performance and specifically by her, your character there.
10:04I would say with Louis, I think one of the things, in life we always say, I'm not going to do this.
10:13I'm not going to do that.
10:14And those rules you set for yourself are usually the walls you have to climb over to find your peace.
10:18And I think in the midst of exploring Louis as a character in a world with a female actor and a lead as phenomenal as Amayate,
10:26you really are forced with the reality of do you want to be right?
10:30Like Dr. Webb said, do you want to be right or do you want to be married?
10:34You know what I mean?
10:34And that's real.
10:35It's like do you want to be right and be alone or do you want to find the parts that you can grow together and make it work?
10:40And I think for me as a human being, it's a really pleasant reminder of the opportunity that we have in these moments.
10:46Yes, definitely.
10:48Joseph?
10:48I'm having a fun time playing a guy who's not relaxed and cool, calm and collected.
10:52Like Bill Sterling is uptight.
10:55He's stressed out.
10:56Uh-oh.
10:57Not very forthcoming.
10:58No.
10:59Uh-oh.
10:59That's very true.
11:00So, yeah, it's a fun departure and yet it's so, of course, like everything Ramallah writes, it's so grounded and so real.
11:09Kyle?
11:09I think every character, heroes, villains, characters we like or we don't like are all searching for their joy in this way or in that way.
11:19Um, and, um, Ozzy is trying to find that and he's trying to find control, um, and find a balance between listening to the voices outside of himself, uh, and weighing that against the voice inside his own head or his conversations with God or just himself.
11:37Love that.
11:38So, what do you think makes Reasonable Doubt continue to resonate with audiences season after season?
11:46And what are you most excited to see them do in season three?
11:51Yeah, I mean, I'll say that.
11:52I think one of the things that Onyx does amazing is it gives the fans of the show what they want and us the permission to continue to create.
11:59And I think the fans of this show also hold us accountable for being true to ourselves as it relates to these perspectives because whether it's Jax's character or my character or Morris's character or Michael's character or these new fantastic actors that we have coming in to represent new ones, they tether themselves to the idea of like, oh, this is, part of me is in that character.
12:18And I think that's, uh, that to me is always important.
12:21Yeah, people see themselves reflected in this show and somehow, whether it be through the friend group, you know, the Ladera ladies or Jax's, you know, work dynamic or the relationship, people see themselves reflected.
12:35And I think because the show does that in such a very real way, people love that.
12:42You know, you get to see all of the flaws, you get to see the mistakes, you get to see all the choices that they're making and them living with those choices.
12:50And the show is not afraid to go there.
12:52The show takes you on this journey and you don't have to agree, but it's real life.
12:57People have had these experiences and that's what I believe makes the connectivity with the audience of the show so real.
13:05Definitely.
13:06And so now I have to ask what everyone is thinking.
13:11Any clues or hints you can give us about when season three is dropping?
13:17Well, what y'all doing on September 18th?
13:24I just want to know.
13:26What y'all doing?
13:27Because the show will be premiering season three, September 18th on Hulu.
13:33So make sure y'all there to watch.
13:36And you know what else?
13:37We have a little sneak peek for you just to give you a little taste.
13:41Again, not sure if you remember me.
13:45My name is Jack Stewart.
13:48I'm trying to be a good friend, a good mother.
13:51Clearly, I'm not being a good wife.
13:52That's just a trial separation, Jacks.
13:54I didn't get married to sleep alone.
13:58Anxiety.
13:59I am holding you to the charge of murder in the second degree.
14:01I hear you're planning to admit to a crime you didn't commit.
14:04You'll be saying you're a criminal.
14:06I thought you liked criminals.
14:10Let me be the jury.
14:11Find the defendant.
14:12Not guilty.
14:12I'm technically still married.
14:14He is an idiot to let you go.
14:17You don't love me, do you?
14:20My best friend called me to tell me that she killed her husband.
14:24How are you going to protect me?
14:26Janelle's going to need all the help she can get.
14:29You make a great team.
14:30I want to win just as much as you do.
14:32We don't follow the right plan.
14:33We lose.
14:35Well, I suggest you take some of that bass out your voice, homie.
14:41Next item, Bill Sterling.
14:43Is there any reason why we shouldn't promote him to partner?
14:46I'm sorry.
14:47He's just not there yet.
14:50Listen to me.
14:51As a black actor whose white girlfriend is missing, a black female lawyer is who you need.
14:56You said as long as I buttered up to Jacks, that I ain't a big partner.
15:00It's like they're watching me.
15:02I won't let you down.
15:02Do you know why I wanted to work with you, Jacks?
15:05Because I'm the best.
15:09Yeah!
15:10Oh, my gosh.
15:16I am so excited.
15:17Are you all excited?
15:20Yes!
15:22All right.
15:23Unfortunately, we have to close this out.
15:26But thank you so much to our panelists and everyone here for joining us today in celebration of Honest Collective's reasonable doubt.
15:34We are excited to tune in for the third season on September 18th on Hulu.
15:41And you all should be tuning in as well.
15:45And to note, the new season will launch with two episodes back-to-back, followed by weekly releases.
15:53Are we ready for that?
15:55Y'all ready?
15:56Y'all better tune in.
15:57Thank y'all so much for supporting the show!
16:01Thank you!
16:02Thank you!
16:06Thank you so much!
16:27Did I do that?
16:32Bravo, my love.
16:34Remain calm! There has been an accident!
16:38This is my game, my rules.
16:44We have the power.
16:57What do I do?
16:59What do I do?
17:00What do I do?
17:01If I do the house I do this.
17:03The house is here.
17:06The house is here.
17:07The house is here.
17:09But there are lots of things that do not do this.
17:10What?
17:11The house is here.
17:12I'm actually here for the house.
17:16I had to open up here.
17:18I'm not sure if I'm not going back to work.
17:20This is the normal news.
17:23I have to do it.
