00:00This was one of comedy legend Catherine O'Hara's last public appearances at the Emmys in September
00:05before she passed away at the age of 71. Now her cause of death has been revealed. O'Hara died of
00:12a blood clot in her lungs, also known as a pulmonary embolism, according to the Los Angeles
00:17County Medical Examiner's Office. Rectal cancer was listed as the underlying cause, TMZ reported.
00:24Last month, the actress's talent agency confirmed to Page Six that O'Hara had been suffering from
00:28a brief illness. She also had a rare condition called situs inversus, in which the arrangement
00:34of the internal organs is a mirror image of normal anatomy. The condition is typically harmless,
00:40but it can make future complications difficult to diagnose, because symptoms might appear
00:45differently in those with mirrored organs. In the early hours of Friday, January 30th,
00:50the Los Angeles Fire Department told us exclusively that they responded to a call at O'Hara's home
00:56at 4.48 a.m. and transported her to the hospital in serious condition. Following her death,
01:02there was an outpouring of love and support from fans for the prolific Canadian actress.
01:07She was famous for starring in beloved films like Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Best in Show,
01:13and later in her career in the Emmy-darling TV shows, Schitt's Creek, and The Studio on Apple TV.
01:20You're not seriously considering we puppet his limp carcass across a casino floor.
01:25The script is great, and anything, if I had any ideas for any, you know, I would give them ahead
01:30of time, you know, and get approval. And then in the moment, of course, everybody's so loose
01:35and strong and funny, and it's so alive. Every take is just live.
01:39In October, three months before her death, O'Hara was reportedly upbeat, but also noticeably gaunt,
01:46in her final public showing at the 2025 Angel Awards in Los Angeles.
