00:00Because of my own involvement and being a part of the healthcare industry for 27 years,
00:07I was able to help translate what my dad was saying to the doctor.
00:14And the doctor got very frustrated in this conversation.
00:19And he's like, well, why didn't he just say what you said?
00:22I'm like, because he doesn't actually see it the way that you do.
00:27And it was just a moment where I felt it was important for there to be respect,
00:34to actually have some patience, to listen, to actually look more broadly at the data
00:40so that the best care could be given to my dad.
00:44So that is very similar to the work that we're looking to do,
00:50even with our Skin of Color initiative at Lilly.
00:53It's really around making sure that we diversify the clinical trials, get more data.
01:00It's about educating more broadly, not only patients, but also healthcare providers,
01:06making sure we have more clinical investigators that are of color
01:10so that their own experience can reflect the patients that they're serving.
