00:00We're celebrating the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.
00:04You're going to see a lot of conversation about it, a lot of commemorative events.
00:09What you're not going to see is the fact that Brown has been gutted by the Supreme Court.
00:15What you're not going to see is that the whole rationale behind Brown
00:19was that you have to have integrated, equitable education for this democracy to really work.
00:25That's what Brown was all about.
00:27What this Supreme Court is now saying is that Brown was just about the fact that
00:31school attendance zones were race conscious.
00:35So we have to eliminate all race consciousness, including affirmative action.
00:40That's not what Brown was about.
00:42But they're able to retell the history.
00:45They're able to elevate a piece of the argument that was never made
00:50in order to suppress contemporary efforts like the Fearless Fund,
00:54like diversity, equity, and inclusion, like Title VII itself.
00:59All of these policies are meant to create equality, right?
01:04Not to take us back, but to push us forward.
