00:00It is a wrap for the football season after the Seattle Seahawks dominated New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60.
00:07So, let's not waste any time. Let's break it all down.
00:10We're going to do it with a sports writer for Fox News.
00:13My guy Scott Thompson joins me now.
00:15Scott, long time no see. What's going on, man?
00:18Doing fantastic, Dex. Thanks for having me on today.
00:20No, glad to have you on. Let's talk about Super Bowl 60, which was interesting, I will say, in terms of review.
00:26Because, Scott, Super Bowl 60 finished with a combined 42 points in this game.
00:31But this was a game where we saw Seattle, they led 9-0 at halftime, so not a lot of offense.
00:37It took quite some time before we saw some real offense in this one.
00:41So, what did you make of the, I'll say, the enjoyability of Super Bowl 60, where Seattle's defense really stole the show here?
00:48Yeah, if you were looking for a shootout in this game, you had time to go to the fridge, get an extra drink,
00:53or hit the snacks, get an extra pizza or some wings.
00:56But, if you love defensive football like myself, this is what we were looking forward to coming into this game.
01:01A lot of people had the under, it was around 46, 45 and a half.
01:05But, this is what these teams were doing heading into this game.
01:07You look at the Seahawks, they were the top team in scoring defense this year.
01:11And then you look at the Patriots, they were doing the same leading up to this game.
01:15Look at what Christian Gonzalez did tonight.
01:17Look at what the rest of that defensive line for the Patriots was doing.
01:20But, Dex, you talked about it, the Seahawks' defense was just too good.
01:26Four-man rushes, and they were getting home.
01:28Big Riley Mills up the middle, pushing a guy back and then sacking Drake May.
01:33Six sacks, interceptions, and you know what happens with the turnover ratio.
01:37If you win that, you're likely to win the game, especially in this one.
01:40Yeah, you know that for sure.
01:41So, I want to make sure I heard you right.
01:43You said you enjoy defensive football.
01:45You enjoy this kind of football because one of my producers here said,
01:49this is the worst Super Bowl he has ever seen in his life.
01:52Granted, he's a little younger than both you and I.
01:55But you feel like if you like defensive football, you should have enjoyed this one.
01:58Hey, you like the New York football giants?
02:01Look at those last two Super Bowls.
02:02You don't win those without defense.
02:04So, I think that's why I'm a little bit biased.
02:05But at the same time, we were on pace for the lowest scoring Super Bowl,
02:09a team to get shut out for the first time in Super Bowl history.
02:13But at the end, yes, there was some garbage time touchdowns that people want to talk about.
02:17I love defensive football at the end of the day because defense wins championships,
02:20as the old saying goes.
02:22That is the old saying.
02:22And I was wondering if the Patriots were going to get shut out here.
02:26And speaking of the Patriots, they did not have a good showing here in this game
02:30with Drake May struggling in his first ever Super Bowl as New England QB threw for two picks in this one.
02:36What went wrong in your eyes for the Pats in this game?
02:38And do you believe that the future is still bright for New England and their young QB going forward?
02:43I wouldn't say what went wrong for the Patriots.
02:45I think what went right for the Seahawks.
02:47You wanted Drake May to be uncomfortable, and they did that to a tee.
02:51Look at all the errant throws.
02:52How many times did Chris Collinsworth tonight say,
02:54Oh, he was wide open.
02:56He was right there.
02:57But Drake May was just pressured all night long.
02:59Those throws he was making all season long, he wasn't making them tonight.
03:03And the guys couldn't get into a rhythm.
03:05And normally we used to see him take off too, especially against those four-man fronts.
03:09But they were doing a good job of containing him in that pocket,
03:11making him get rushed, and ultimately it led to those turnovers we were just talking about, Dex.
03:16Yeah, those turnovers were very costly for the Pats.
03:18And you're right, Drake May never looked comfortable in this one.
03:21All right, so Super Bowl MVP, Scott, is always something that you're going to hear talked about every time after.
03:28And Kenneth Walker, he wins Super Bowl MVP.
03:31He finished with over 160 total yards in this game, buck 35 on the ground.
03:34I thought that we might see, for the first time ever, a kicker get MVP of the Super Bowl.
03:41Jason Myers, he recorded a Super Bowl record five field goals in this one.
03:45Did Jason Myers get snubbed here as Super Bowl MVP, or did Kenneth Walker III deserve the honor that he got?
03:52I think we're looking at 1A, 1B here, Dex.
03:56And this is nothing against Jason Myers.
03:57Like you said, five field goals, makes Super Bowl history, also makes NFL history.
04:02Most points in a single season for a kicker, but Kenneth Walker truly set the tone.
04:06Jason Myers wouldn't have those chances, and they were short chances.
04:09We're not talking 50-plus yard field goals.
04:12They were in the 30s.
04:13I think 41 was his deepest one of the night.
04:15But Kenneth Walker truly setting the tone against a defense that completely shut down the run this season.
04:20They were the third-best defense in yards allowed, remember, during the regular season.
04:24So when you talk about Kenneth Walker truly setting the tone, 10-yard run to start off,
04:28and then he was just bulldozing guys, finding gaps.
04:30And look at that fourth-quarter run at the end.
04:32I mean, that was the longest wait I think I've ever seen a running back have at that line of scrimmage.
04:37And honestly, Dex, if it wasn't for that holding call, what a cap to the night if he took that to the house and won it.
04:43So, yeah, I'll cheers to 25-year-old Kenneth Walker who has a lot of football ahead of him.
04:48Yeah, a lot of football ahead of him.
04:49He ran the ball extremely well.
04:50You're right.
04:50I just was kind of rooting for the kickers.
04:52We know the kickers don't get love all the time.
04:54Wanted to see the kicker possibly get Super MVP, but we have to wait again.
04:58That has never happened in Super Bowl history.
05:01Last thing for me here, Scott, I'm not truly sure how many people, maybe it was you, maybe it was somebody else,
05:07before the start of this season picked the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl with Sam Darnold as their QB.
05:14So with all the talent on the defensive side of the ball in Seattle,
05:18do you look at the Seahawks as a team that's primed to win multiple titles with this group?
05:22Do you think that's possible?
05:23I think when you look at Sam Darnold, and we have to do that first, Dex, what a redemption story.
05:29We heard it a lot tonight.
05:31Fifth NFL team.
05:32We know, obviously, here at the New York Post, he starts with the New York Jets.
05:36It doesn't turn out the way that they wanted to.
05:38But you want to talk about a guy who just battled adversity, went from the Jets to the Panthers,
05:43then to the 49ers where he finds his groove again, and then Minnesota last year.
05:48And I got to talk to him before the start of this season, and I asked him, why did he choose the Seahawks?
05:52And he said, Clint Kubiak, for instance, they know the offense together when they were in San Francisco.
05:58But at the same time, he's like, it just felt right with these guys.
06:01And he mentioned that talent on the defensive side of the football.
06:04Such a young team, 25 years old, just over 25 years old, is that average age on defense.
06:11Those are the type of guys that you want to be around.
06:13They fly all over the field.
06:14Look at rookie of the year candidate Nick Amon-Warri.
06:18You look at all the rest of these guys.
06:19I mean, Leonard Williams is the vet in the room.
06:21Julian Love is the vet in the room when we shout out our New York Jets and New York Giants former players.
06:26And how do you not love this team moving forward?
06:29They're young.
06:29They have the right pieces on offense.
06:31JSN is your reigning offensive player of the year, although he battled some injuries tonight.
06:36And we'll see what they eventually do with the Cooper Cup, but I believe he's back next season.
06:39This is a team, I think, that is primed with a head coach who is young, who they love to play for.
06:44And just like Mike Vrabel on the other side, how can you not want to run through a wall for Mike McDonald?
06:49What a guy tonight as he looks up at those fireworks and sees all that hard work because he called it out.
06:54He said, we don't care what anyone says about us.
06:56We know what we're about.
06:58And now they're Super Bowl champions.
06:59They are Super Bowl champions.
07:01That is the Seattle Seahawks.
07:03The future looks bright.
07:03A lot of talent on that defensive side of the ball.
07:05Like you said, very young on that side of the ball so they could compete for many more years.
07:09And maybe the confidence of Sam Darnold, this man was once seeing ghosts with the New York Jets.
07:15Who knew?
07:15Who knew, Dex?
07:16I didn't see it coming.
07:17I'll be honest.
07:17I didn't see it coming.
07:18It's a great feel-good story, and I think it's just a testament to adversity.
07:22You truly never know, especially in this league.
07:25Absolutely.
07:27Definitely got to agree with that.
07:28And we'll see what the Seahawks are able to do going forward.
07:30But they win Super Bowl 60, 29-13, over the New England Patriots.
07:35They are Super Bowl champions.
07:36That is Scott Thompson.
07:38Check him out.
07:38Sports writer with Fox News.
07:40Doing a great job there.
07:41Scott, always a pleasure to talk some sports with you.
07:44I appreciate you joining me, my friend.
07:45We'll talk soon.
07:46Absolutely.
07:46Thanks for having me, Dex.
07:47Thanks.
