00:00:00deep a special two-hour premiere oh looks like we broke through the ledge in the solution channel
00:00:05oh yeah that's it for sure if we're gonna hit this is the one that should pay whoo-hoo what's
00:00:09that it could be a gold or a silver coin in the original money pit found this item on the drill
00:00:13back in 1849 and i believe this is your one thing rick this may be what lies below that's a game
00:00:19changer the owner just found this no way early stuff we're changing no discussion history really
00:00:24hit something hard so i'm gonna pull it up please do could we hit a vault we're hoping to find a
00:00:28coin something what is that that's a chunk of metal it's very thick you know we may be onto
00:00:32something see how shiny that is oh my god i can confirm that it is silver likely from 1367 to 1383
00:00:38does that look like a templar cross yeah it does yeah it's real
00:00:44there is an island in the north atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure
00:00:50for more than 200 years so far they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it
00:00:58man-made workings that date to medieval times and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the
00:01:06knights templar to date six men have died trying to solve the mystery and according to legend one more
00:01:15we'll have to die before the treasure can be found
00:01:31so here we are again on our way to oak island how y'all feeling well it's exciting because i'm basically
00:01:38satisfied that something happened on oak island that's outside of recorded history yep we're
00:01:43finding more things that say that the legend is true absolutely for brothers rick and marty lagina
00:01:50their partner craig tester and the members of their team a new chapter in the world's longest running
00:01:56treasure hunt is about to begin on oak island for me i just want it solved and i do believe there'll
00:02:04be success this year yeah beginning in 1795 when three young men first discovered an ingeniously
00:02:12designed shaft that reached more than 90 feet deep known as the money pit generations of treasure hunters
00:02:21have tried and failed to uncover a legendary fortune and now after spending more than a decade
00:02:28finding clues that suggest a vast treasure is indeed hiding deep below ground rick marty craig and
00:02:36their team are determined to write the definitive chapter of the oak island mystery and away we go
00:02:45we begin the new year with this mission statement let's solve it let's find the answers we're here
00:02:53our hopes are as high as they've ever been and i'm really and truthfully pretty excited about it hey everybody
00:02:59we walk into the museum everyone's smiling there's a certain energy in the room there's a sense of
00:03:10commitment hey partner and i draw inspiration from them welcome everybody back to the quest right yeah
00:03:19so let's start with this if you try and make sense out of everything other people have done and what we've
00:03:24done the last 12 years what makes sense is that the treasure has gone even deeper than the money pit
00:03:30and is now in the solution channel that's right in 1804 a large stone bearing strange carved symbols was
00:03:38discovered in the center of an oak platform exactly 90 feet deep in the money pit upon its removal the
00:03:46shaft flooded with seawater that was fed from a reported cobblestone tunnel that originated 500 feet away
00:03:53at smith's cove over the next two centuries numerous companies of treasure hunters dug more than a
00:04:01dozen adjacent shafts and tunnels all in the hopes of bypassing the belief booby trap and recovering
00:04:07whatever had been so skillfully buried at the bottom of the money pit each one fell victim to flooding and
00:04:15cave-ins this resulted in the ground across the money pit area becoming unstable and prone to collapse
00:04:24one year ago rick marty craig and the team believed that their efforts to solve the mystery would
00:04:30finally pay off after groundwater testing pinpointed a large source of precious metals more than 100
00:04:37feet underground they began digging a series of seven foot diameter steel shafts what is that but while
00:04:45recovering numerous artifacts including digging tools that predated 1795 we found this concrete and also
00:04:53obtaining possible evidence of a treasure vault nearly 160 feet deep stop it's caving it's caving all the way
00:05:04back the earth beneath two of the shafts known as tv1 and tot1 suddenly collapsed this has led the team
00:05:13to suspect that the treasure has now fallen to more than 200 feet deep and now lies in a natural feature
00:05:19in the bedrock known as the solution channel a geological term for a large cavity that forms over
00:05:26time due to limestone dissolving in groundwater i am just really really enthusiastic that it resides deeper
00:05:34and with that scott you've been doing a ton of work on that why don't you tell us the thoughts on that
00:05:39so as you know we want to look in the solution channel to try to find the treasure yeah so steve
00:05:44and i sat with rick and we've came up with a drill program this year so steve you want to bring up
00:05:47the map there and we'll talk about the holes that we want to do okay so now we're looking at a map of
00:05:53the solution channel the green is the solution channel yes so my understanding of the solution
00:05:58channel is between anywhere between 150 and 220 feet is a moving mud river with different different depths
00:06:04yes so it's not a mud river it's a gold river down there now the cold area in the solution channel
00:06:12is less than five percent that we've actually explored so scott and i and rick sat and discussed
00:06:17this and this is what that map looks like so we're going to start the boreholes this year in around top
00:06:24one okay well because these are the holes rick you want to drill the green things yep what i want to do is
00:06:30systematic drilling we're going to drive the casing down around 210 feet because we want to explore
00:06:37the solution channel at depth so if we found something with the drilling program we would
00:06:43then turn over to this gleeful planning of a recovery absolutely that would be fabulous okay so
00:06:49that wraps up the first part of this discussion about the money pit now i think that is the focus of
00:06:55treasure but fiona and laird would say wait a minute there's a lot more to this story as far
00:07:01as what actually happened on this island so laird i'll kick it over to you and why don't you pick
00:07:06up and summarize all that yeah we're really excited about getting back to lot five given all of the
00:07:11artifacts we found and we're starting to see that story on lot five expand within itself the soils from
00:07:19the round feature and feature two the rectangular feature that matched the soils from the area of the
00:07:25money pit at depth and to me that's huge absolutely after acquiring lot five from the estate of robert
00:07:34young in 2022 the oak island team discovered a rounded stone foundation near the shoreline and another
00:07:43rectangular feature several yards to the south both had been deliberately buried and have produced a
00:07:49astonishing clues that suggest they were related to the money pit and were used by multiple groups
00:07:55as base camps between the 14th and the 18th centuries these finds include a mortar-like substance
00:08:03matching soil samples unearthed from more than 100 feet deep in the money pit area a lead barter token
00:08:11which just like the 14th century lead cross that was recovered at smiths co in 2017 may be connected to the
00:08:19medieval order of the knights templar several venetian trade beads as well as two garment buttons that
00:08:26have been matched to the kinds worn by members of the knights of malta a group who descended from the
00:08:32templar order and were known to have inhabited parts of nova scotia as early as the 1630s
00:08:40we haven't been able to find another feature in nova scotia that matches what's happening on lot
00:08:45five yeah so this year we're hoping to expand our excavations around the round feature that will
00:08:52give us even more insights into the who what where and why on lot five right look everybody knows that
00:09:01i think the research is an important facet of our work so we have been actively engaged in following the
00:09:08clues we have come to learn of to date that includes possible templar connections certainly the knights
00:09:14of malta connection yep ever since the laginas and craig tester began their quest to solve the oak island
00:09:22mystery in 2006. they have been investigating the incredible theory that the order of the knights
00:09:29templar and related groups began transporting priceless religious treasures from europe to oak island as much as
00:09:37800 years ago oh wow and during the past several years they have visited numerous former templar
00:09:44strongholds in countries such as france scotland portugal italy and malta where they have seen amazing
00:09:55evidence that it could be true there's something there that you might recognize for that cross evidence
00:10:02such as symbols meant to represent religious artifacts that have also been found over the years on oak
00:10:08island it's just absolutely incredible tunnels that match the reported design of those found deep
00:10:16underground in the money pit area the stone path looks exactly like this and even a stone road in
00:10:22portugal that is nearly identical to one they themselves unearthed in the oak island swamp back in 2020.
00:10:29so the research continues to evolve and i think there's a real chance that it will be highly
00:10:37enlightening i love it i'm very enthused because i think there is potentially an answer this year as
00:10:45to why we haven't found this treasure at least in the money pit i want to get to the bottom of that so
00:10:50we got a lot to do we got the team to do it yeah yep so i'm eager to get started jack's eager to get
00:10:55started he's got some stuff at home he's finishing off on i see a lot of eager faces yeah for me it's
00:11:01always about you guys about the people we cannot throw science at this we can throw technology at
00:11:07this but look at each other and realize that within each of us that's where the real importance lies
00:11:13let's figure out who what when where why and how let's really commit ourselves to doing that
00:11:17all set yep i do know one thing the answers aren't in this room well let's get going you're here
00:11:24all right let's do it let's make it so
00:11:30hola i see we're drilling following the team's meeting in the interpretive center rick lagina and
00:11:38craig tester join other members of the team in the money pit area as their first core drilling operation
00:11:45of the summer has begun in borehole j6 a borehole located just five feet south of the seven foot
00:11:53diameter tot1 shaft which was dug one year ago it was at that location where the team recovered pickaxe
00:12:01more than 160 feet deep that was dated to as early as the 16th century and it was also where a massive
00:12:09cave-in occurred at nearly 180 feet that caused tons of earth and possible valuables to fall into
00:12:16the solution channel more than 200 feet underground we're down only about eight feet just the very
00:12:23first run it's the beginning but i mean i think this is a really good bet we're going to find some
00:12:27treasure in this solution channel what you gotta do is find one thing one thing the strategy this year
00:12:34for the money pit is to figure out where that treasure went way deep where did it fall into the
00:12:40so-called solution channel and what is also different from the other years is we are absolutely
00:12:45going deep with every one of them 200 feet maybe even more if everything works out we got a good
00:12:50chance of finding something here we're about to find artifacts and be searching at a level well below
00:12:54where any seeker has gone all the more reason to keep a really close eye on these course because the
00:13:00slightest thing might be the most important thing time's going to tell us a little deeper as the
00:13:07core drilling operation continues in the money pit area later that afternoon hey hey how are you all right
00:13:18rick lagina his nephew peter fernetti and a metal detection expert katya drayton arrive on lot
00:13:25five where archaeologist laird niven and alex lagina are investigating the mysterious rounded feature
00:13:32near the shoreline we thought we'd come over and see if we can help yeah the artifacts we found there
00:13:40are all concentrated on the west side between the rectangular feature and the round feature so i'd be
00:13:46really interested in having to go carefully over the east side i'm excited to see what we can find here
00:13:52thank you laird you're welcome there's always the hope that you will find some piece of the puzzle
00:13:57that will tell you the whole story of what happened as to when this occupation occurred who was here and
00:14:03what were they doing i would say that's one i would say right in there
00:14:22let's try it with the pinpointer now that we're deeper
00:14:32come out come out
00:14:36oh there it is why on it
00:14:37that's the last of it yeah
00:14:48heavy what do you think heavy
00:14:54it's got some weight to it yeah it's not light some sort of fastener not modern no no it's interesting
00:15:00to be that far away right yeah because they're looking for clues as to what else might be here
00:15:05a lot five is certainly interesting this faster is it possible that it's evidence of a structure or
00:15:15structures sure the story of lot five continues to expand i don't know that we're even close to
00:15:21having an answer yet a possible iron fastener because the team has made similar discoveries in both of
00:15:29the nearby foundations could rick's notion that this may be evidence of another potential structure
00:15:35be correct so that's a bag and tag for sure and that's a ct scan object am i will those what that
00:15:42is no question about it sounds great good fine easy all right good digging thank you
00:15:48okay see if there's anything else in there as the investigation on lot five continues
00:15:53here we go down into the solution gym and while the core drilling operation proceeds deeper in the
00:16:00money pit area over on the eastern end of the island at smith's cove let's go find something guys
00:16:07billy billy's here marty lagina craig tester and metal detection expert gary drayton join billy
00:16:15gearhart to further investigate the massive collection of spoils from last year's excavations in the money pit
00:16:21area hey billy this whole pile came out of the caissons what we know is though it came from deep in the
00:16:28money pit area yeah and we found that old iron i mean that old iron went back to the 1600s yeah
00:16:35what is that it looks like it's part of a tool after finding the potentially 16th century pickaxe
00:16:41during the excavation of tot1 at the end of last year's search that could be a really old tool
00:16:47mate yeah the team began scouring through the money pit spoils that were deposited here at smith's
00:16:53cove and incredibly they found an iron chisel that was dated to the same approximate era
00:17:00whenever there's a lot of iron there's a possibility of iron masking there could be a gold or a silver
00:17:04coin waiting for us mate all right well let's get going yeah now the team is continuing to search the
00:17:12remaining spoils in the hopes of recovering more artifacts or evidence of treasure this might be
00:17:19something
00:17:20i can see it just can't pull it out we're going to try and get over there yeah you can see it sticking
00:17:31out the hole where is it right there yep
00:17:33you got him there it is what you got marty what is it what's that oh that's interesting
00:17:52what you got marty a pin i don't know if it's older it ain't crigger that looks old yeah
00:17:59at smith's cove while searching spoils excavated for more than 180 feet deep in the money pit area
00:18:06last year marty lagina and other members of the team have just uncovered another potentially
00:18:12important clue yeah that's right i don't think yeah it's old i don't know i wonder if it's a possible
00:18:21cribbing spike no i think it is like when you're building cribbing like cribbing for a shaft or something
00:18:26yeah a possible cribbing spike potentially used to connect large beams of wood together
00:18:34because no previous searchers were known to have built shafts that deep underground could the team
00:18:40have found more evidence of the original money pit if so what else is still waiting to be discovered
00:18:46in these spoils so this should be good yeah i'll probably need this digging out it's
00:18:52might be on edge we're all on edge right where is it right there
00:19:01see that area there try pinpointing
00:19:07it's there that was a little bit off oh here we go that's more like it
00:19:10that is a tool of some kind look at that yeah wow that is unusual
00:19:20that's got the look of being old as well yeah it is no question it's not new
00:19:26definitely has some heft to it i thought it was like a chisel when i first picked it up it could be
00:19:31yeah it was the tunnels and yeah i'm not surprised at all at what came out of that spoils pile that
00:19:37could be very significant once again possible proof that somebody other than searchers were way deep
00:19:42in the money pit still we have to keep going through the spoils carefully because anything
00:19:47here could be something that could be very significant and we picked up where we left off last
00:19:52year we were finding great old tools artifacts in these spoils and we have just pulled up another one
00:19:59which could potentially go back to 1600s or older yeah okay i'll bag it nice one billy another good
00:20:06artifact right finally a decent fight not bad not bad not bad at all good digging guys
00:20:15yeah i mean the gold's still in there right oh yeah it is that's the whole
00:20:20the following day while the drilling operation continues in the money pit area
00:20:32there are moments around this table that have been really quite impactful in terms of our understanding
00:20:37of this mystery and today is one of those days in the war room doug kroll has arranged for the
00:20:43laginas and members of the team to meet with a man he has been corresponding with for several months
00:20:49named steve solomon well i'm really excited to say we have a really special guest with us today
00:20:54steve solomon steve is prepared to present what doug believes could be a major breakthrough
00:21:00in the 230 year old treasure mystery well steve's got something to reveal to us today about the
00:21:06gentleman by the name of james pit blade oak and a really prominent oak island family the archibald family
00:21:12well steve is a member of that archibald family interesting charles you and i have talked about
00:21:18this so-called pablato incident forever right so tell everyone what the pablato incident is about
00:21:26well james pablato was a foreman with the truro company and they were here from about 1849 to
00:21:311851 and there was an incident that happened in the original money pit
00:21:36in the summer of 1849 members of the truro company conducted the first major excavation of the money pit
00:21:46since it had flooded after the removal of the 90-foot stone back in 1804 after constructing a platform
00:21:54nearly 30 feet deep in the shaft which was still flooded below company foreman james pitblato oversaw a
00:22:01drilling operation to find out what might be buried below the 90-foot level incredibly at 98 feet a hard
00:22:10wooden surface was penetrated before the auger bit passed through what was described as nearly two feet
00:22:16of loose metal pieces another hard wooden surface and then another two feet of loose metal the workers
00:22:24excitedly suspected the two stacked treasure chests were buried some 100 feet deep in the money pit
00:22:32upon extracting the auger bed james pitblato was seen removing a reported shiny object from its tip
00:22:39but when confronted he would not reveal what it was to anyone on the island so pitblato approached a
00:22:46gentleman by the name of charles archibald and they attempted to buy the eastern end of the island so
00:22:53whatever was found on that auger enticed him to leave his job and attempt to purchase the eastern
00:23:00into the island so it had to be something really significant wow charles dixon archibald was a
00:23:07businessman from londonderry nova scotia who served as the manager of a mining company named acadian
00:23:13ironworks curiously members of his family had helped to finance an earlier search for treasure on oak island
00:23:20in 1804 after meeting with james pitblato the two approached landowner john smith one of the three
00:23:27young men who originally discovered the money pit in 1795 and offered him a considerable sum
00:23:34to acquire the eastern end of oak island the proposal was refused and no one has ever confirmed
00:23:41what was found by james pitblato after that incident they went to the town of lunenburg and put in an
00:23:48application and this is an excerpt out of that application to dig on oak island having been
00:23:54represented to me that certain persons have discovered the situation of certain hidden treasure
00:23:58beneath the surface of the earth on oak island and then it goes on with the legal stuff for the town
00:24:03person to sign it and it's on this particular day charles archibald this was from 1849 interesting
00:24:09so i want to talk a little bit more about the family but first i would like to show you what
00:24:14contributed to this uh application and i believe this is your one thing rick i know you've been
00:24:19looking for this for years wow i am on the edge of my seat i'll hold it up so marty can see it
00:24:32this is a coin this is a silver portuguese coin that's what came out of the hole yes
00:24:39this was a coin that was passed on from the archibald family my mother-in-law was given
00:24:43this by great nana edith archibald and it was given to me from my own research i believe it's from about
00:24:501367. i mean that's incredible right like in every sense of the word yes in the war room steve solomon a
00:24:59man with historic family ties to the oak island treasure hunt has just presented rick marty and the team
00:25:06with a potentially 14th century silver portuguese coin a coin that he believes was retrieved from
00:25:12some 100 feet deep in the money pit back in 1849. how big is that what's the diameter say
00:25:20a little bigger than a quarter i mean i was just wondering how such a thing would be carried
00:25:24up by the auger but that easily could be yeah over the winter marty we researched what a pod auger
00:25:30looked like and its dimensions are more than enough to allow a coin to settle into the mouth of the bed
00:25:37the coin is spectacular it's quite beautiful artfully made hand struck well that certainly
00:25:44raises an eyebrow doesn't it it's a very smallish coin it's the kind of thing that would get stuck in a
00:25:50drill bit we want to confirm what type of coin it is of course but the condition of that coin is
00:25:57quite remarkable for something that's been around since the late 1300s yeah thinking about the treasure
00:26:03being deposited way back it's also if it was in circulation it would be all worn off right it just
00:26:07looks to be it's in really good shape yeah the fact that it is in such good condition might represent
00:26:13that it came up out of say one of the sealed cases where it's been sealed for many years and has
00:26:17not been subject to any of the water dirt elements i mean what caught my imagination was that this
00:26:23coin was portuguese right and and what theories have we've been looking at that might involve the
00:26:28portuguese we're of course we're looking at the templars finding sanctuary in portugal and and
00:26:34involving into the knights of christ yeah of course the catholic military order known as the knights
00:26:42templar were formed in the early 12th century to fight for christian interests in the holy land during
00:26:48the crusades they amassed great wealth by establishing an elaborate banking system but were also rumored to
00:26:56have discovered priceless religious artifacts including the holy grail and the ark of the covenant in 1307
00:27:03they were disbanded and persecuted by king philip the fourth of france and pope clement v on charges of
00:27:10heresy many were arrested and executed but much of their treasures were never found the order rebranded
00:27:18themselves where they could find refuge in countries such as portugal where they were known as the
00:27:24knights of christ in 2021 when rick lagina and other members of the team visited former templar related
00:27:31strongholds across portugal a circle in the dot in the center of the cross that's one of our symbols on
00:27:37lee joe stone they were stunned to see numerous stone carvings matching symbols that have been found
00:27:43on oak island is it possible that after nearly two decades into their quest for answers the team is
00:27:50finally looking at a genuine piece of the treasure that people have been seeking for 230 years
00:27:58so i i think what happened was people found this item on the drill bit and he goes to charles dixon
00:28:04archibald who had the acadian mining company at the time he says listen there's treasure on that island
00:28:10and here's the proof and then we know by the paperwork that steve has that it is charles dixon
00:28:18archibald that was approached by pit blado pit blado went to him and he showed him something so convincing
00:28:25that he took these steps to try and take over the treasure out on the island yep the only thing that got
00:28:30in their way was they were given the right to hunt for treasure on oak island on unoccupied lands well
00:28:36we know the truro company maintained their license on the money pit so while they gained right to hunt
00:28:41on the island they didn't gain right to hunting the money pit this is a really thrilling and exciting
00:28:47thing that's happened on oak island and the story all makes sense it really does it's difficult to make
00:28:53up a story like the pit blado story itself this coin is singularly unique in terms of its importance
00:29:00for one simple reason there is a narrative associated with the coin we have an artifact
00:29:06and we have a possible association with that famed incident the pit blado incident that's quite convincing
00:29:14to give him obviously more credibility the way this coin ended up in my possession is the direct line
00:29:19from the archibald family so when steve approached us we wanted to see if the framework was truly there
00:29:26for this coin to have been passed down from pit blado to steve's branch of the family that you see in
00:29:32this chart charles dixon maybe was left with that coin because he had to go to the government and
00:29:39and secure a treasure trove license and all of that charles dixon archibald was related to thomas
00:29:46archibald and when charles dixon archibald kind of left the province pretty much for good in the
00:29:501850s and he died in 1868 if he had left that coin behind with the members of the family that are
00:29:56still here in the province then it's very plausible that it came down through steve's family and the
00:30:02pit blado family members of that family were actually married into the archibald's over time they were
00:30:07yeah this is quite something this coin has been with the family three years i think it came up in
00:30:151849 i do and it's bent too yeah it is slightly bent my question is can the heat that's generated by
00:30:26that auger could this have been picked up and by a slight amount of heat potentially have curled
00:30:30a lot of stuff having drilled a lot of stuff anything powerful enough to drill through oak
00:30:35and a cask is powerful enough to bend the coin yeah yeah it adds credence to the story yeah i think
00:30:43this all makes sense and it has a high likelihood of being the object that was found if anybody's
00:30:49head isn't reeling like mine as to what theory this fits yeah i mean come on yep if it's true about the
00:30:58loose metal there could be a coin in there from 1307 right after the knights templar disband or even
00:31:04earlier crusade times right because there's nothing that precludes them from adding to their treasure
00:31:09cash over time we know the work the carbon dates here on the island we call it a multi-generational
00:31:16attempt but there might have been a series of operations needed to set this in motion this could
00:31:23be part of a generational event correct yeah our modern minds think we can traverse half the globe
00:31:29in an afternoon back then if there was a plan initiated to save or protect something they they
00:31:37understood that it was a transatlantic voyage months just in the sailing months again if not years in the
00:31:45final completion of the task my biggest problem with it is i wish i had seen it come out of the drill bit
00:31:50of course my favorite thing about it is that everything if we just assume that all of it is
00:31:55true then that really focuses our dig we believe the area we're investigating this year could we bring
00:32:02it to the lab and have emma do some metallurgy look at it and render an opinion of course is that coin
00:32:0951 likely or better that that's the coin that pitblado found i on the jury would vote yes i think the
00:32:17data is compelling let's go aggressively look for this treasure down deep because that's where it
00:32:22must have gone i agree yep if this coin were a hundred percent known to be what came out of the
00:32:28money pit it's the strongest thing we've ever found and i think we're looking at with a high degree of
00:32:34probability the coin that was found that day so many years ago to me it's proof that something is at the
00:32:43bottom of the money pit there's nothing like that moment you see it you hold it in your hand you know
00:32:51how close you are to the one thing it's a real reason to be hopeful this even though there's some
00:32:58blanks that have to be filled in this very possibly is what lies at the depth in the money pit and how
00:33:06many years have we spent talking about what lies below this may be what lies below yeah we can't
00:33:15say thank you enough big time yes very much so thank you appreciate it yeah thank you let's move forward
00:33:24we hit the bedrock plateau in j6 we're down to 178 right now we're still in bedrock we haven't popped
00:33:31out into the open solution channel let's hope we're going to pop out short yeah yeah after the
00:33:37incredible revelation of the 14th century portuguese coin in the money pit area operations manager scott
00:33:44barlow charles barkhouse geologist terry matheson and surveyor steve copptill eagerly monitor the
00:33:51progress of borehole j6 so we've hit the ledge we're going to hopefully get down through the ledge we're
00:33:57going to get back down into the solution channel and look for that treasure hopefully we find
00:34:01something down below because as we saw with dot1 we found material made by man deeper absolutely
00:34:08because the drill has passed through the ground soil and is currently cutting through rock it is
00:34:14terry's belief that they're drilling through an outcropping or ledge of bedrock and that the solution
00:34:20channel will hopefully be encountered several feet deeper below we came into this year not so much
00:34:27looking today to collect any more of a treasure hunt absolutely yeah you know steve solomon brought
00:34:33a portuguese coin to the island right yeah i'm excited about that coin i mean if we find a coin deep
00:34:38in the solution channel predating searchers that's huge right yeah absolutely if there's something down
00:34:44there this is where we're going to find it yeah we got to cross our fingers
00:34:47oh did we break through i don't know
00:34:58looks like we broke through the ledge into the solution channel the rods just started going
00:35:01down pretty quick there oh yeah that's it for sure that's it as the drill comes down and
00:35:07encounters a bedrock ledge it really pushed through there it fell down deeper so we know the solution
00:35:12channel has got some hidden cavities in it on our ledges we're waiting for that next core to come up
00:35:16hopefully containing some treasure so the rest of this should be very interesting we'll see if
00:35:20there's any of that debris field that we're looking for the falling treasure yeah okay guys i've got some
00:35:25other things i gotta go check on so please keep me informed what's gonna happen i'm really excited about
00:35:29what may be down here of course i think we're only in the infancy of trying to understand the solution
00:35:35channel i don't know what's in there i know what we found to date in it it is quite compelling we have to
00:35:41have patience because we believe whatever was above fell to those depths thank you 178 178
00:35:53thank you so here's the bedrock from 168 down to 178 and here's the little bit of mud where we opened up
00:36:05into the solution channel where we popped out let me escape thank you every hole is a little mini
00:36:13treasure hunt in and of itself what i would like to do is to find something the one thing and then
00:36:20immediately turn our resources to a large scale recovery effort clear anyway we're going to go
00:36:26another 20 feet uh now from 178 to probably finish at 198 and we'll see what we've got then we'll have an
00:36:33artifact of three it could be the one thing Charles you never know yeah what we're really looking for
00:36:39is treasure that could be sitting in a pocket at the bottom of solution channel in around 210 feet
00:36:44so every sloppy mess we see in those cores becomes exciting wait
00:36:56so yeah it's soft and i hit something hard yeah this is the pay zone we're really very hopeful about
00:37:02very good recovery in this zone okay that's good how deep what's your what's your depth dial uh 188
00:37:08188. excellent
00:37:16he's hung up right now on something hard at that 188 level i mean that's the whole reason we're drilling
00:37:20right here absolutely the next core example it'll tell it will what i'd really like to see is a coin
00:37:28or an artifact that's his treasure that's what we need your mind goes to all kinds of possibilities
00:37:34that as we're drilling down in the money pit area going to the solution channel could we hit a vault
00:37:40we're hoping to find a jewel a coin something that changes a ball game here completely
00:37:44we have a core gentlemen hopefully we get something here here's hoping what we got kyle 188 188 thank you
00:37:56see what we got
00:37:59as the drill goes down if it hits something hard the hope is that we will find the man-made obstruction
00:38:05the actual vault or treasure i mean that's always the hope every single time and i hope at some point
00:38:11it comes to fruition gypsum boulder here at about 185 it's pretty tight not likely what we might run
00:38:20into gypsum is a naturally occurring rocky mineral that is often used in the production of plaster and
00:38:27cement however due to its relatively soft composition it is geologist terry matheson's opinion that it would
00:38:35not explain the obstruction that the drill encountered now's the time we can find an artifact or two
00:38:44absolutely
00:38:50very loose material if we're going to find an artifact it's going to be in something like that absolutely
00:38:56it's a little cakey but anyway okay thank you fellas thanks a lot
00:39:06slush right there so there's some debris that fell off of the wall this is actually bedding so
00:39:12that's not what we really want we need something that was a little harder it's hard to say what we
00:39:17might run into perhaps the bit pushed it deeper because the team is not finding evidence of the
00:39:24obstruction is it possible that the drill bit made contact with a hard object and perhaps pushed it
00:39:30deeper into the sludge and water filled solution channel if so what was it and might they encounter
00:39:37it again at a greater depth and we're only at 194 so we'll see what happens we're planning on going at
00:39:42least 210 yeah at least 210 yeah yeah all right guys i'll get in your wake normally when we're drilling
00:39:49if you hit something if you hit something you can still deflect off but hopefully the drill rod it
00:39:53was able to keep its verticality we're trying to go deep to the bottom of the solution channel and
00:39:58if we can find something then it's a whole different ballgame
00:40:05hey guys what are you doing charles terry welcome anything so far no okay we hit something solid
00:40:13at 190 feet down that may have pushed into the solution channel we have a core what's going on
00:40:22how far did you get 213 213 did you hit bedrock yes sir wow okay this is the whole angelata then okay
00:40:34okay okay let's cut this right about here
00:40:38it's a little firm yeah more than i'd like
00:40:52just a little too dense yeah that's nothing i hope we don't have to drill every inch of that solution
00:41:00channel i hope we find the one thing here shortly but you have to cover the solution channel in its
00:41:05entirety you just got to get after it it's disappointing but we're going to keep mapping
00:41:10out the bottom of that solution channel until we find what we hope we're gonna find yep and we'll move
00:41:14on to the next hole that's right
00:41:21a new day begins on oak island and while the core drilling operation continues in the money pit area
00:41:30nearly half a mile to the west on lot five
00:41:33these are the spoil piles from last year of the round feature so i'm really excited to see what we
00:41:37can find here metal detection expert gary drayton and peter frenetti join the archaeology team as they
00:41:44continue to investigate the large stone foundation near the shoreline i mean they're using sifters but
00:41:52sometimes some stuff can go through that quarter inch screen oh give it one last shot
00:41:56today gary and peter have been directed to search through a pile of spoils that were removed last
00:42:04year from the mysterious round feature for any clues that could help determine who occupied it and most
00:42:10importantly why
00:42:15yeah this could be something pete this sounds like it's non-ferrous
00:42:21well i know the rules is we have to stand down for the archaeologists to dig these targets because
00:42:28we're in this special area let me call fiona fiona we got a target oh great hey because the round
00:42:38feature was designated by the government of nova scotia as a special place in 2024
00:42:44gary and peter must obtain permission from one of the team's accredited archaeologists before digging
00:42:51up any targets in this area okay we've got a target here fiona you think it's non-ferrous
00:42:58yeah a little piece of non-ferrous there it's ringing up loud and clear yeah just there please
00:43:12you know what this you can tell this is in between the spoils pile so this would be something probably
00:43:17more in situ well it's looking like it so far i see an in situ target meaning that it is not in
00:43:23the previously removed spoils but rather in the ground near them all right i'll try to pinpoint
00:43:31see what we got if so could gary have identified a new area outside the rounded feature that contains
00:43:40potential clues or evidence of treasure oh look at this yeah i had a feeling it was going to be a little
00:43:49bit of lead tiny little bit of squash lead shot a lead shot or bullet ever since acquiring lot five
00:43:58three years ago the oak island team has unearthed a number of gun related artifacts such as musket balls
00:44:05and a ramrod guide from a rifle that could all date as far back as the 17th century more than 100 years
00:44:12before the discovery of the money pit that probably created somebody's supper one day yeah yeah could
00:44:19the team have just found more evidence of people who may have used this site as a camp while possibly
00:44:26hiding valuables in the money pit if so who were they if that had been a gold nugget now we'd all be
00:44:33dancing should we flag this little area as well yeah i mean that was on the ground so that's great
00:44:38are we allowed to search this yeah no absolutely uh i think we're just going to try and stay away
00:44:43from any of the perimeter of the feature because we're going to still dig there but i think it
00:44:47really would be good to detect on this side because realistically most of the artifacts have all been
00:44:51kind of on the the west side of the feature i find it very strange that we're not finding as many
00:44:55artifacts right here find some treasure in this area go for it no this is perfect so i'm going to get
00:45:01back over here anything we can do to help you guys awesome cheers got something yeah it's iron
00:45:15let's take this out and see what we've got okay just there please
00:45:19hopefully it's a chunky old thing i like my chunky old things especially on lot five lot five is the
00:45:32lot that keeps on giving we're finding artifacts that were here well before the discovery of the
00:45:38money pit so we want to work together with the archaeologists to metal detect and my number one
00:45:44objective for a lot five is to get some answers to help the archaeologists tell the story about what's
00:45:48happening in the future and how that relates to the money pit
00:45:56oh yeah what was making all that noise oh here it is oh what the heck is that
00:46:08that is something i mean look at the shape of it yeah yeah look you see it's got these bumps on it i
00:46:13don't know if these are corrosion and it's just encrustation on it or not yeah it looks like it has
00:46:22some sort of shape to it yeah like a design of sorts my first thought was like door hinge almost like
00:46:28the the locking mechanism a piece of a possible door hinge if so could it be related to the nearby
00:46:36rounded feature this could still tell a story and help solve the mystery yeah we're not too far from the
00:46:42around feature the people on lot five would have had locks of some kind they could have had chests and
00:46:50doors that needed locking and i'm looking forward to seeing what the archaeologists dig up about this find
00:46:57got something yeah bigger piece of iron fiona when you get a chance can you come over here sure thank
00:47:13you yeah we're close to the ram feature i like your location over here we haven't found a lot of over
00:47:18at this side of this round feature well i'm hoping this is something interesting it's an iron it but
00:47:27it's substantial go for it
00:47:35oh that's gonna be tricky
00:47:36oh well done wow that's really deep i wonder if i should grab my trowel just i was thinking that
00:47:51yeah okay maybe a good idea to travel i mean we're in worm tickler territory now
00:47:56okay okay i'll pinpoint it for you fiona okay
00:48:02oh it's a streamer right there it's really deep yeah it is that's about 10 inches
00:48:11yeah i can see it right here it's and it is a substantial size i just don't want to break it right
00:48:17here's a piece if that looks like glass that's glass that's the older stuff then look at the color
00:48:29of it and that's pretty green that's looking like older glass
00:48:39you know what there's all sorts of things down here to be honest i'm seeing some coarse earthenware
00:48:44now too so the fact that the fact that we've got coarse earthenware you've got glass and a big piece
00:48:50of iron i think we need to um not dig this up right now yeah i want to take out just a bit of the
00:48:56roots i think we'll just make it a little bit bigger this may just be a pile of something that
00:49:00got thrown here but what if it's something else yeah what if this is another part of a foundation
00:49:06we are not that far away from this feature because we found the starburst button right over here
00:49:11and which is literally four feet away from us we found the spiral button right over here and that's
00:49:16really really close to to this oh wow this could potentially be part of whatever's going on over
00:49:21this feature another potential section of the mysterious round feature on lot five and mere feet
00:49:29from where the team uncovered two ornate buttons that may be connected to the 17th century order known as
00:49:35the knights of malta a religious order who just like the portuguese knights of christ descended from
00:49:41the knights templar we're in total agreement and a new knows what else is down well that's what i'm
00:49:48thinking too so we'll we'll hold this for now and if you're okay to keep going with the rest of it for
00:49:53sure due to provincial regulations because fiona believes that gary and peter may have found another
00:50:00part of the rounded feature she and the archaeology team must now perform further excavations of this
00:50:06site to locate the large metal object and whatever else may be buried here now we've found this who
00:50:12knows what else is waiting for us over here this is really encouraging
00:50:20it's treasure time yep as the investigations continue in the money pit area this is just
00:50:25starting to hit gravel and on lot five okay everybody this is the first of what are going to
00:50:32be hopefully a whole bunch of sessions in the lab yeah rick and marty lagina along with other members of
00:50:38the team meet with archaeologist laird niven and archaeometallurgist emma culligan in the oak island
00:50:44laboratory while emma is still conducting scientific analysis of the 14th century silver coin
00:50:51she has prepared to report on the chisel that was recently found in the muddy pit spoils from last
00:50:58year's large-scale excavations what did you find out emma all right so the chisel did get a good strip
00:51:05of bare metal from this area right here so i have the compositions up here earlier today emma scanned the
00:51:12iron artifact using an x-ray fluorescence or xrf device a device that emits non-destructive radiation
00:51:20to identify an object's chemical composition which can help determine when it may have been created
00:51:28i think lacks any modern alloying element like manganese or any other element that we normally
00:51:33find which indicate older brilliant this is definitively not modern so we comfortably put it
00:51:41in the 1700s sweet yeah and it could potentially be older wow look those days yeah the chisel is actually
00:51:49very exciting that's before the story of the first treasure hunt efforts on oak island so it could
00:51:55be part of an original deposit it gets interesting it's a great find it to start off the year like
00:52:02this you have an old tool found at depth in the money pit this is not the one thing but we're getting
00:52:08there all right i'm satisfied well done we'll get you some more there's gonna be some more fines coming
00:52:16and i'm hoping it's made of gold and silver well as rick always says we got to go find it yep see you
00:52:22later thank you
00:52:28the following morning
00:52:31hey terry charles hey alex in the money pit area alex lagina joins geologist terry matheson and oak
00:52:38island historian charles barkhouse as they continue monitoring the joint operation in borehole h.5 8.5
00:52:48what death are we at what you've been bringing up in a second here is from 168 to 170. okay and
00:52:53anything so far or what's coming up right now should be a good clean run there oh here we go come here
00:52:59could be something in the barrel there something sticking out it looks like
00:53:01what you got adam what is that that looks like some steel to me that does that's a chunk of metal
00:53:13yeah a large metal object extracted from nearly 180 feet deep in the solution channel you know finding
00:53:23this piece of metal i mean he's very excited because we're not sure what it is anything below 150 is a
00:53:29really interesting level for us to search because we don't know the exact location of the original
00:53:35money pit i don't know i don't know what that is interesting hey scott check that out
00:53:45very thick i agree it's really substantial you know we may be on to something yeah let's spit it out
00:53:53let it out yep we're drilling down pretty deep here at this point in the solution channel
00:53:59first thing we need to do is get it out of there and have a look and see what it is
00:54:06it's still sitting right there
00:54:10that's another piece that's another piece
00:54:15see what it is we can take a look on the table yeah
00:54:19a second metal object found in the solution channel the questions that now arise are just
00:54:29what could they be and who may have left them buried in the money pit area
00:54:35what's the depth guy 178. so let's have a look here this is the bottom this is where the chunk was
00:54:43sticking right out that looks like a chunk of old drilled rod yeah it does that was projecting out
00:54:53the bottom that was what we were looking at just twist it up there pretty tight yeah yeah look at that
00:54:58another chunk yeah i'd say you're you may be looking at the whole piece right there though
00:55:05whole enchilada the whole chunk you know what i mean like it was very small it's buckled a couple of
00:55:08ways yeah this is good somebody else was here in this area we know other treasure hunters throughout
00:55:14the search have come really really close to the point that they got indications that they had hit
00:55:18something yeah and i love finding old drill steel especially here in the money pit because like i said
00:55:22they didn't get the recovery back from that so they never got to check what's below that yeah
00:55:26interesting it's about the right size to be a two inch diameter casing which could have been the
00:55:31casing for that pot auger potentially brought back that silver coin we saw yeah yeah so actually james
00:55:37pit plato he was seen taking something out of the pot auger he put it in his pocket he didn't show
00:55:42up the next day hey and you know another reason for casing to still be in the ground is if your
00:55:46driller quits and walks off the site because it found something that's right look i think emma's
00:55:52going to be able to test this and tell us whether this dates to the 1840s right huh if it does and it
00:55:57means we're we're in the same vicinity if that dates to 1849 yeah yeah the fact that the team has found
00:56:04pieces of what appeared to be drilling rods from previous searcher activity may actually be a
00:56:09critical clue that they are now drilling down through the original money pit we might be able
00:56:14to determine which company it came from if it's 1850 and earlier earlier searchers knew where the money
00:56:19pit was that means we could be onto something there could be something below it it could be the remains
00:56:24of the vault and then of course 178 feet we still have you know 30 plus feet to drill and we really
00:56:31don't know what's at the bottom of the solution channel in this area yet well let's keep our
00:56:35fingers crossed yeah all right exciting great day while the drilling operation continues in the money pit
00:56:44area this is 180 later that afternoon
00:56:52what do you think kenzie have you found anything i'm not much over here rick and alex lagina arrive on lot
00:56:59five as members of the team continue investigating the mysterious round feature you still have iron
00:57:06left thing yeah and a possible new section of it where a large metal object was detected just one day
00:57:14ago there's definitely more in here
00:57:18that's it almost looks like an iron bar what a weird looking artifact would they just have like metal
00:57:27around that they could use to fashion tools with a blacksmith would have a stock it is an odd looking
00:57:35piece so i think we keep it dirty and take it to emma oh it's still pretty cool i'm excited to see what
00:57:41else might be in here good stuff i think lot five continues to evolve we're all quite puzzled by the
00:57:49uniqueness of the structure and it continues to grow larger so all of these artifacts could be highly
00:57:55relevant we have to bring them to the lab we need more of these finds to hopefully fill in those
00:58:00gaps and give us those answers
00:58:05oh what's this hey look at this oh that looks good i don't think i've seen anything like this before
00:58:13i can tell you what it is really yeah staffager slipware oh i've heard of that yep yep and this
00:58:23is one of the earliest pieces we haven't found any more of this before so when you say early how
00:58:28early are you talking stuff your slipware is like 1675 to 1770 well that's a game changer
00:58:35alex rick yeah we've got something to show you all right
00:58:42so fiona just found this this is what we call staffager slipware it dates 1675 to 1770
00:58:52that's pretty good that's really exciting actually so early stuff we know we're not done here on lot
00:58:58five by a long shot we're finding these earlier artifacts that are hinting at an occupation in the 1600s
00:59:04in this whole new test pit all of which seem to predate the treasure hunt in the money pit we're
00:59:10going to expand the pit dig down deeper and hopefully we can find more artifacts like that
00:59:15or better who knows what we're going to learn well you can tell our work here is definitely not done on
00:59:20lot five i mean this is starting to intrigue me when you're looking at these date ranges
00:59:23that's really encouraging to me i have to remember this feature is completely undocumented yeah we're
00:59:28changing nova scotian history really oh absolutely i have long believed that the 1750 and onward date
00:59:35is searcher era because of the preponderance of fines if you're a searcher you don't care that people
00:59:41make note of your activity we have the earliest dates around 1200 and then we have that middle ground
00:59:48right the 14 15 early 1600s when you think of it long ago they viewed time differently than we do oh yeah
00:59:58all the big projects like castles cathedrals and all that stuff if you look at generations yeah
01:00:03and so that's what i think happened here could rick's notion be correct is it possible that this
01:00:09potentially 17th century pottery was left by one of several groups who may have occupied lot five
01:00:15while also hiding something of great value in the money pit if so what else might those mysterious
01:00:22people have left here for the team to uncover that's really cool i hope i can find one of those
01:00:28yeah find a big piece i'll work on it believe me i've been trying hopefully we'll find more
01:00:36alex yeah i think i found uh no way how in the heck did you find that
01:00:58how in the heck did you find that that's a bead hey laird tansy found a bead oh really yeah oh
01:01:10while excavating the round feature on lot five archaeology assistant tansy rudnicki has just
01:01:16uncovered another potentially important clue honestly i can't believe she even found it it's tiny
01:01:22excellent wow you want me to hand it to him yeah don't drop it there you go oh look at that tansy
01:01:31you found it pretty deep right i mean you're getting close to sterile soil there it looks like yeah
01:01:36moya had found a similar bead almost at the similar depth that you're going to
01:01:40and she found it right over here in what we call the yard but we've also found two other venetian beads
01:01:44which were uh the striped ones it had blue and red stripes on it remember those two venetian
01:01:48beads yeah those are venetians but the other one that to me is the most interesting is the green
01:01:53wound bead that we found over in the test bit over there who found that i found that one yeah
01:01:58that was exciting because that was one that you said had a really old age range or date range on it
01:02:04it's walled glass uh which means forest glass and it was produced in forests in northern europe it was
01:02:09like 1200 to 1500 i mean it was old this believe it or not this is what we call a seed bead i can see why
01:02:18like is it so small for that very reason yeah probably not worn as you would think beads are
01:02:24it's probably embroidered which is pretty cool is there a way to get like an age or a date on it we
01:02:31can probably find if it's most likely venetian but the venetians just kept that tradition up over
01:02:36hundreds of years probably on the earlier side of what we're finding here in 1291 artisans in venice
01:02:44italy began producing decorative glass beads that soon became a highly sought form of currency as
01:02:51well as status symbols used to adorn ceremonial garments jewelry and religious artifacts over the
01:02:58past two years the oak island team has found four venetian trade beads in and around this stone
01:03:04foundation on lot five that could date back to between the 16th and 17th centuries two of which
01:03:11may even be connected to the knights of malta however they have also recovered a so-called
01:03:18forest glass bead in this location which scientific analysis determined could date as far back as the
01:03:2510th century is it getting to the point that it's an unusual amount of beads for a site like this the
01:03:32number of beads and the variety we have seems to be unusual well and they're scattered yeah everywhere
01:03:36i know i know given the number of potentially ancient and valuable trade beads as well as the
01:03:4414th century barter token that the team has found in this feature is it possible that it may have been
01:03:50used not only as a base camp long ago by different groups of people but also as a place to hide valuables
01:03:58if so what else might the team find as they continue to excavate it hey rick hey i know one thing when
01:04:07people are standing here talking something's been found take a look oh my gosh it's a little seed bead
01:04:14glass well well congratulations well done yeah one thing that's curious when you speak about going back
01:04:21in time we now have this possible connection to a 1360 1380 portuguese coin can that the date of that
01:04:31go back to that time it could before i think we've investigated who could have come here now we have
01:04:38what appears to be pretty good hints of connected tissue in the form of the coin and we're looking for
01:04:42other things that we might help that connection so like the beads would be one if we can trace these
01:04:47beads back to a portuguese merchant yeah then that helps us have more confidence in in what the coin
01:04:52might be telling us you see how they're finding that little thing's kind of the tip of the iceberg
01:04:56yeah really the bottom line is there's probably more here yeah and that's cool cool all right you
01:05:01guys can go back to work and take this back to emma okay see what we can find out fair enough try to
01:05:06find more everybody get ready to pull out the gold coins as the investigation on lot five continues
01:05:12all right here we go 8.5 8.5 178 to 188 we're going at it right now guys here we go over in the money
01:05:22pit area other members of the team closely monitor the core drilling operation in borehole 8.5 8.5
01:05:31as it reaches deeper into the mysterious solution channel this is a very hot spot for drilling 186 is
01:05:37deeper than any surgeon that we know of has been exactly that's why we're going to look at these
01:05:42areas in much more detail that's a dark water looks like we've got a sample
01:05:54here comes the core here comes see what's in store
01:06:01what you got adam 188 thank you
01:06:07somewhat bedded and firm unfortunately look at that
01:06:14and there's the top thank you very tight clay rich material slightly looser here
01:06:22look at that now this material is different that is loose material
01:06:27although much of the core is made up of hard clay-like material which terry believes is undisturbed
01:06:33the looser soils in the car could suggest evidence of the solution channel which means
01:06:39they could potentially contain something of value i'm going to run over with the metal detector go ahead
01:06:50you know thanks steve oh you have something there's something in here right here hey
01:06:57i got a hit right here guys it's in here somewhere
01:07:05look at it it's all shiny there's all that stuff you see how shiny that is okay that's shiny what is that
01:07:15that's it right there yeah that looks like steel
01:07:17okay we'll bag it anyway looks like bag it yep yep upon drilling to a depth of some 190 feet
01:07:26in the money pit area members of the oak island team have just unearthed another potentially
01:07:32significant clue from the mysterious solution channel okay let's start breaking her down
01:07:37okay this will be a broken piece of metal from what air i don't know
01:07:41something in here and there okay that's it that's it right there more pieces of metal could the team
01:07:52have found additional evidence of previous searcher activity or could this be a clue connected to
01:07:58someone who buried valuables in the original money pit centuries ago so we'll be sure we get every
01:08:04little fragment we're going to bag it all take it back to that okay guys i'm going to go check on a
01:08:09couple things here around the island i'll be back if something was up in that last bar give me a
01:08:13call would you please take care right now we've got another cork on you there it comes guys
01:08:21you know over the years we've looked at a lot of cores we've run the pinpointer over a lot of
01:08:24course full-on anaconda here but after seeing the coin that steve solomon has 214 right there i mean
01:08:32your mind just kind of goes to the possibility that are we going to get another one of those and that
01:08:36that would be amazing to find the one thing to put in rick's hand okay there we are there's the
01:08:42bedrock interface right there where we go into solid bedrock at 212 but from 201 down to about 208 i think
01:08:51we got a lot of slushy material yeah
01:08:58okay that's clear this material is not what we're looking for yeah not what we're hoping to find let's
01:09:03get a sample of those loose materials back to the lab so that emma can tell us exactly what's in there
01:09:08although the team did not recover clear evidence of treasure in this borehole they will collect samples
01:09:14of the soil from the bottom of the solution channel so that they can be tested for traces of precious
01:09:19metals back in the lab finding those metals at great depth beyond which searchers at least recorded
01:09:26searchers have been to it it proves that the collapse is real and that's the enterprise this year to
01:09:33explore those depths to hopefully find what we believe has fallen okay i'll get some pictures and
01:09:40write this up we'll move on charles okay more information from the bottom of the solution champ
01:09:47the following morning while the drilling of a new pore hole begins in the money pit area
01:09:54and the archaeological dick proceeds on lot five you know as everyone knows steve solomon was kind
01:10:02enough to bring this coin to the war room meeting the other day rick lagina and other members of the
01:10:08team meet with archaeometallurgist emma culligan and steve solomon in the lab we turn to emma as we
01:10:14always do to see what the coin is saying to us emma has just completed her scientific analysis
01:10:21of the believed 14th century portuguese coin that was reportedly recovered from the original money
01:10:26pit back in 1849. okay so i've done a full report on the coin it's made of 0.375 silver it's got
01:10:37a high copper high silver content it's got a slight bend right but other than that it's in perfect
01:10:44condition beautiful coin yeah so i can confirm that it is a real portuguese coin it is consistent with
01:10:53every coin that i've compared it to that is confirmed okay support is the escudo of ferdinand
01:11:00the first from portugal most likely from 1367 to 1383. it's real that's called yeah
01:11:05ferdinand the first also known as the handsome reigned as the king of portugal from 1367 to 1383.
01:11:17it was a period when the knights of christ a rebranded order of the knights templar maintained
01:11:23numerous strongholds across the country and had meaningful influence on the crown due to their
01:11:29economic power and military might is it possible that this coin reportedly found deep in the original
01:11:38money pit back in 1849 could be another clue linking a vast templar treasure to the oak island mystery
01:11:47emma would you get it larger the bottom of the coin a little bit to the left
01:11:53oh that looks like a templar cross does it to you guys oh yeah good catch that's an interesting
01:12:01catch judy because if that's a templar cross the knights of christ they're of course one of our
01:12:05suspects for deposition here on the island a possible templar cross has judy ruderbush just
01:12:12made a critical observation that offers more evidence to suggest that the knights of christ
01:12:18may have been one of the templar related groups who buried something of great value on oak
01:12:23island between the 12th and 17th centuries there's a lot of interesting things about that coin that
01:12:31i think we can push further what do you make of a six-pointed star on the sides
01:12:38fonder kata fonder kata over top of the doorway fonder kata over the doorway we might be looking at
01:12:44what i think is you know the oldest templar commandery or place uh in portugal maybe in europe wow
01:12:50during the team's visit to portugal in 2021 oh wow one of the most profound sites they toured
01:12:57was a 12th century church in the town of font arcana that once served as a house of worship for
01:13:02the knights templar and later the knights of christ we will find symbolism in some details of the church
01:13:11there they not only saw a carving of a star that matches the one on the 14th century coin
01:13:17this symbol is definitely on the 90-foot stone but also a symbol inside the church that was reportedly
01:13:23etched into the legendary 90-foot stone haven't we learned over these many years that the smallest
01:13:30clue relays some really important information there is something that that coin is saying this is
01:13:36incredibly interesting fascinating really this coin strongly hints to me supporting the idea of a
01:13:43multi-generational attempt because for one simple reason we have dates that precede this 1367 date
01:13:50supported by hard science that's quite significant to me the likely presence of this coin at depth
01:13:58years ago means that there's a lot more like it down there and if there's a lot more like it it's
01:14:03quite likely to be deep and i think we're onto a very rational effort this year to get down into the
01:14:08solution check so we're not going home without doing that yeah look we're all quite fascinated
01:14:13with it well i don't know about all of you but it'd be nice to talk to a coin expert absolutely for
01:14:18sure and you know what steve solomon we owe you a debt of gratitude we're very grateful that you're
01:14:22now unfortunately for you you're part of the family yeah thank you i appreciate being here there are
01:14:29probably a lot more ancient coins to be found so let's get going
