00:00All right, Malcolm, how about you, brother?
00:04Can y'all hear us?
00:05Is this too low?
00:07Y'all can hear us?
00:08All right.
00:11What got me first started thinking about investing
00:14was a black woman.
00:17Ironically, we're here at Essence, and my mother,
00:19she had Essence magazine delivered to the house quite frequently,
00:22as I'm sure all of our mothers did at one point.
00:24That shit just kept coming.
00:25You didn't want it to keep coming, and it just kept.
00:27And she had Oprah on the front of her cover,
00:31and I think she used that as her true north,
00:33as a woman of color who was interested in owning her narrative,
00:37who was interested in being beyond our current situation,
00:40and she saw me as a conduit for that.
00:42So a black woman poured independence into me,
00:45poured freedom into me,
00:46and the vehicle for that was always investments.
00:50That's dope, man.
00:57That's dope, man.
