00:00no no i understand because actually in that that fight in grad school um i was one of of of three
00:10black people and one anti-black dominican man um who has since sent me the longest apologetic text
00:20messages i must say um but i was wondering why they weren't they weren't angry with i was wondering
00:32why they weren't it was like when i'm like hey do y'all not see that this is fucked up man like yeah
00:38no but um so acting right uh we're actors um i just came here to act sorry jerry i don't want to
00:44and it was my white counterparts who were like what is it that you need how can we help and so
00:51when i say right places that don't care about niggas right i don't mean like that doesn't that doesn't
00:57have a race to it you can be in an all black place that don't care about niggas okay yeah and so i mean
01:04when you it's it's difficult because different people's priorities are in different places and
01:11even in even in college i was african-american studies major and i had some black teachers
01:16which is why i identify with the camille character so much who were so hard on me and i was like
01:23are you are you okay because this is not okay but feeling like people feeling like there's a certain
01:34hazing process that comes with black wealth and black ascension that they didn't have to pass on
01:42and it's not okay it's not okay trauma begets trauma shout out to um the houston uh uh clothing
01:51every nigga deserves stuff as fuck um but i just wanted to add to it
01:59um but i i want to add to that that i think that is the process i i have empathy for our folks right
02:13i always want to put it in context right there are so many things that um and and systemized tools and
02:22tactics to turn us against each other it's not it it's it's you're queer you're african you're caribbean
02:32you're dominican you're a woman you're trans right not realizing we all got to organize together and
02:40our liberation is interlinked right i don't ever you know there's a very famous
02:50activist activist who
02:54come on now you know all skin folk ain't camp folk right okay okay and you know takes money from
03:06these big you know evil white motherfuckers it's for real it's true and he told me to my face
03:17you don't think i'm smarter than them no i do not they have billions of dollars to pay other people
03:27to think 24 7 about how to oppress you further you are not gonna be able to do it alone
03:34ain't no way yeah and they convince us isolate us and then keep they isolate the ones that got the
03:41resources don't talk to the mother niggas because you finally here don't go back and so i do have while i
03:52despise that i despise that yeah not the person yeah and i have a lot more grace for my people and it just reminds me
04:06over and over again that the answer ain't this yeah the answer ain't this the institutions that survive a lot of the time
04:14survive for a reason yeah the ones that don't are attacked for a reason yeah and so a lot of the time the institutions that
04:21survive that are run by a lot of black folks have been selected by white folks right or know that
04:27they're not going to mess up the money or whatever it is so they allow it to thrive and then those
04:33institutions are used in that system to attack our own people and we have to just be aware of that
04:41yeah and so we have to learn our vetting process our own personal vetting process for where we get involved
04:48in who we organize with listen because sometimes we have to take that same organizing tactic that
04:54same community that we've built of black people who know we support each other yeah right to
05:01either call them in or call them out or take them resources and use them for the right regions
05:10all right all right period we're gonna pass the collection plate in a second all right listen
05:14so i want to say thank you to jerry and kendrick both for for telling us and teaching us about how
05:20you have honed your voice how you're using your voice uh in ways that really matter not only just
05:25for yourselves but for our community at large and so we greatly appreciate that give me give them
05:29another hand and give it up one more time for essence right our safe spaces for us to have
05:40these kind of conversations with family the power of your voice is so important and so powerful i want
