09:42Have you been enjoying yourselves?
09:44Well, my name, let me introduce you.
09:46My name is Deja Vu.
09:47I'm a national syndicated personality through ABC Audio.
09:51You might also hear and see me on Live with Kelly and Mark in the mornings on ABC and also

10:09If you're walking by, bring your friends on in.
10:12Believe me!
10:13Somebody say, believe her!
10:14Believe her!
10:15Believe her!
10:16You're going to want to stick around.
10:17So, now that I've done my thing, we're going to bring our Walt Disney World ambassador
10:22to the stage.
10:23He is like the face of Disney.
10:25Give it up right side for Rayvon Redding!
10:28Oh, my gosh!
10:30Look at him!
10:32Come on, brother!
10:33Oh, my gosh!
10:34Give it up for Rayvon!
10:35Yes, yes, yes.
10:36Have a seat.
10:37Have a seat.
10:38Rayvon, it is so amazing to be here hanging out with you.
10:51Wait, let me get situated.
10:52And first, I know you guys have cameras and I love cameras, but please, please take it
10:57all in.
10:58Absorb it all down to the socks that match the suit.
11:03You are truly the face of Disney as our Walt Disney World ambassador.
11:08Tell us about that.
11:09Yeah, I'm honored.
11:10Well, myself and my partner, Ali, represent all 75,000 cast members that work at Walt Disney
11:15World Resort, and we do a plethora of things.
11:17I mean, we're representing the cast, recognizing them for all of the magic that they create,
11:21but most importantly, we do things within the community, and we're out and about, and
11:25we're spreading that joy and that magic that we create in the back.
11:27That Disney magic.
11:28Exactly.
11:29Absolutely, absolutely.
11:30So let's talk a little bit about Disney theatrical productions.
11:34Are you a Broadway fan?
11:36A huge Broadway fan.
11:37Come on, come on.
11:38I absolutely love live theater.
11:40Yes.
11:41There's nothing like it, and I mean, I think my favorite part about it is you don't have
11:44to go to New York to receive that Broadway caliber entertainment.
11:47Exactly.
11:48All throughout the world.
11:49All throughout the world.
11:50I mean, right now, we have our very own Broadway shows touring North America, Frozen,
11:54Aladdin, The Lion King.
11:56The Lion King.
11:57I know, so incredible.
11:58The Lion King show is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and you know what?
12:02Let's give them a little bit of a taste right now.
12:03Let's do it.
12:04All right.
12:05Good job.
12:06Let's do it.
12:10Can we find a place on a path of finding in the circle, the circle of mind, circle of mind?
12:41Wow. Awesome. I feel like I should be dancing. I should be doing it. Every time. The circle. What? Come on. You guys know you do it. Anybody know the words of hakuna matata? Come on now. Hakuna matata. You know that you love it. Yes. Well, right now, I think we should do something. Yes. I need a couple, a couple of volunteers. Don't be afraid to raise your hands. Oh, I love this. I think it's going to be so fun. Right, right, right. Okay, so we're going to select them. The Broadway production of Aladdin opened March 20th of
13:102014. The animated classic, on the other hand, released November 11th. So right now, we've got some friends in the audience who are going to check for people who have birthdays close to November 11th.
13:22November 11th. Anybody with a birthday close to November 11th. There's someone in the audience that should be a big, giant Mickey hand that's going to help seek you out.
13:32There's a Mickey hand right back there. Is there an exactly November 11th? Close to, is there an exact? She's exactly November 11th. Oh, there's an exact? I think there's an exact right back there. Exactly November 11th.
13:43Correct. Yes. And then we, I think we might need another, let's see. All right, let's see. Okay, November 11th. Where's our Mickey hand? All right, November 11th. Keep your hand up, love. Yep, keep your hand up. Okay. Our friend's going to find you right over here in the center.
14:00There we are. Right in the middle, just behind you. She's right there.
14:05And we're going to find out about what you might have gotten hooked up with. Okay?
14:13Okay, so we're going to keep going on. And you know what?
14:18We have another pair of Mickey hands that are out in the audience. I think we should look for another date.
14:22Okay, we should look for another one? Yeah, maybe March 20th.
14:24March 20th. Yep. Let's do that one.
14:27Is there a March 20th? Anyone's birthday, March 20th, they're close to?
14:31March 20th. She's March 22nd. Okay, 27th.
14:3326th. Okay.
14:3426th. Anybody else closer?
14:36Anyone closer?
14:37Okay, there's another March birthday. What's your birthday?
14:4029th?
14:4129th? We have a 26th over here, though. That's close.
14:4326th, that's a little bit closer.
14:45We have a little one over here.
14:48And the little one, too? When is her birthday?
14:54March 12th. We have a March 12th.
14:56March 12th. I think it has to be closer to the 20th.
14:58Yeah, a little closer to the 20th.
14:59I think we might have our friend in the fedora right there.
15:03We'll confirm. Our friend will confirm with you.
15:05All right, we're going to do that right now.
15:07And while they're at the audience, wait.
15:10Hand up. Yep.
15:11Yeah, you are. When is the birthday? We're going to confirm.
15:14All right.
15:26Incredible.
15:27It's incredible.
15:28Yes.
15:28See, this is what happens when you come out here with us, right?
15:31We're so excited about everything that's happening here at Essence Festival.
15:34We're celebrating, of course, on Broadway.
15:38And we have a special guest today coming out.
15:39We have a very special guest joining us, a dear friend of mine.
15:43I'm so excited to bring to the stage someone that you all might know,
15:46a friend like no one else,
15:49Michael James Scott, who plays Genie on Aladdin.
15:51Oh, my God! Can I make a wish?
15:53He is here, yes.
15:55Oh, Michael James Scott, come on out.
15:57Woo!
15:57Woo!
15:58Woo!
15:58Woo!
15:58Woo!
15:58Woo!
15:58Woo!
15:59Woo!
15:59Woo!
16:00Woo!
16:00Woo!
16:01Woo!
16:04Woo!
16:05Woo!
16:06Yes!
16:06Hi!
16:07Hey, how are you, Michael James?
16:08Scott?
16:09Good.
16:09Good.
16:10Hi, Ray-Von!
16:11Come on, Essence Fest!
16:12Oh, my gosh.
16:13The energy.
16:14The energy.
16:15We are so excited.
16:16Michael and I go way back.
16:17Michael used to be a cast member at Walt Disney World Resort, similar to myself.
16:21Are you serious?
16:22Yes, I did.
16:23I'm from Orlando.
16:24An Orlando native.
16:25Wait, you were in Orlando?
16:26I'm Duval.
16:27Duval!
16:28Yes!
16:29Come on, now!
16:30Come on!
16:31Okay, sorry.
16:32I'm way back to my Florida moment for just a hot seat.
16:34Just a hot second.
16:35But, so you got your start up there.
16:38Oh, yes.
16:39And now you've made it to Broadway.
16:40That is actually a magical dream come true.
16:42It is.
16:43I mean, truly.
16:44Next year will be my 20th year celebration on Broadway.
16:4720 years on Broadway.
16:48Are you kidding me?
16:49Give him a round of applause.
16:50Incredible.
16:51Yes.
16:52I am the product of a community that really cares and really, you know, gave me opportunities.
16:58And especially, I mean, it goes back to my Disney days where I was, I was a cast member
17:02doing the, well, down the main street.
17:04There it is.
17:05Yes.
17:06Doing all the things.
17:07All of that.
17:08But when you're practicing, were you envisioning, because I'm a big person about visualizing
17:10success.
17:11Absolutely.
17:12Were you envisioning yourself on that Broadway stage even as you were on the thing right
17:15there at Walt Disney World?
17:16On Main Street, yeah.
17:17I mean, my Broadway stage was in my living room.
17:20Come on now.
17:21So it didn't matter where I was.
17:22But yes, I always, I only envisioned for me to be on Broadway.
17:26That was the only thing I ever wanted to do.
17:28So then I have a question.
17:29I want to know because, I mean, we have incredible individuals out in the audience of all shapes,
17:33sizes, colors, backgrounds.
17:34What does representation mean to you?
17:36And how do you see the role, Jeannie, impact those that see you on stage?
17:41I mean, representation is everything, obviously.
17:43It is, to me, the dream that we are all still trying to fight for, right?
17:48In terms of just figuring out what it is that we need to do to be represented.
17:51But I, I have the blessing and the gift to get to play a role that is an iconic role
17:57that literally represents love, light, and laughter.
18:00Right.
18:01And for a black man to be leading a show with that kind of representation, to me, is beyond important.
18:07And I do not take that lightly, to be able to present that out to the world.
18:11It's like, it's nice to see a black man smile on a stage.
18:14Right.
18:15What is it?
18:16Hashtag black boy joy.
18:17Yes.
18:18Absolutely.
18:19Because so many times we've gone through where everybody's wanting to meet Mog.
18:21There's, there's excitement.
18:22There's enthusiasm in life.
18:23Yes.
18:24So that to me is the most incredible thing about what I get to do and what I get to sort
18:29of, you know, be able to be a representation for people who may look and they're like,
18:33I would love to do that, you know?
18:35Absolutely.
18:36So then I want to know, cause I love live theater.
18:38I love Broadway.
18:39Was it easy to find a space for you?
18:42Did you have to create your own space in that world of Broadway?
18:45And how did you feel about inclusion in that space as you were making your way up?
18:49I mean, I think it's both.
18:50I think I was raised with parents who just said yes.
18:54And they gave me the empowerment to believe that I could do whatever I wanted to do.
18:58Wow.
18:59Now, whether or not I, you know, whether or not that was really what you could, you know,
19:03that was what I believed.
19:05And, and so I think to be able to have that little bit of magic, you know, Disney magic,
19:10if you will.
19:11Disney magic.
19:12It's real.
19:13That's it.
19:14That's something that I think has really been, and, and not waiting on anyone else.
19:19Right.
19:20That to me has been the thing.
19:21It's not waiting on anyone else and being like, okay, I'm going to make my own space.
19:24Exactly.
19:25If we, you know, I'm going to make my chair and slide it right here so that we can, you
19:29know.
19:30Now, you know, grandma growing up used to say a closed mouth don't get fed.
19:32Right.
19:33And you had to open up your mouth and ask those questions to really figure out where you belonged.
19:37And then if you didn't feel like you belonged, you made it happen.
19:39And I love that.
19:40Absolutely.
19:41I absolutely love that.
19:42So I want to know, you know, as a current cast member, and there are cast members that
19:46are in the audience right now that are watching, how has Disney impacted you in terms of seeing
19:51yourself in the arts?
19:52Well, Disney has been doing this.
19:54Disney has been a part of the diversity game, the inclusion game since I can remember.
20:00And I will never forget in eighth grade, I was the first Walt Disney dreamer and doer.
20:06I won that award.
20:07I won that award too.
20:08In middle school too.
20:09I received that award.
20:11Yes.
20:12So this was like your destiny.
20:13Yes.
20:14So it was Disney that gave me that little spark that it was possible.
20:18I mean, that is truly the magic of what I feel like.
20:21That's why I say it always comes back to Disney, you know.
20:23It's full circle.
20:24It's a full circle moment.
20:25It's a circle.
20:26Okay.
20:27Handed moves of soul.
20:28Oh, he's going to take us to church.
20:30But I know we had our participants get verified, Deja.
20:32Yes.
20:33We want to check on them to see because I think we have a very special announcement.
20:36We do.
20:37Where are the participants?
20:38Our participants, are they here?
20:39Verified?
20:40Where are they at?
20:41Where are our participants?
20:42They're confirming.
20:43They're confirming.
20:44I know we have something very, very exciting.
20:45There's some really cool things.
20:46We like making Disney magic.
20:47You, Genie on Aladdin, make dreams and wishes come true.
20:48Don't you?
20:49Uh-huh.
20:50And I think we can do that right here at the Essence stage.
20:51Just because we're not on Broadway or not in the parks.
20:52We can still make Disney magic, right?
20:53Exactly.
20:54We're making that magic happen.
20:55I think we can do that.
20:56So we tell them what's happening?
20:57I think we do.
20:58I think they're verifying and confirming.
20:59Because I want to see their reactions.
21:00I want to know what we're doing.
