00:00It's a last-minute goal. You know you're going to Wembley.
00:04How are you able to unwind after that? How quickly can you get your mind out of that match like that?
00:11Immediately after, you start to think, OK, what about Saturday?
00:15How can we use the energy that is still in that stadium and the way the boys are feeling
00:21to have another positive performance that results on Saturday?
00:25And then, yeah, what they need, just start to feel what they need, how they are,
00:29and they were very focused because they know the difficulty of the match,
00:32they know the importance of the match, and I'm sure we're going to be ready tomorrow.
00:36Is that one where you're able to literally flip the switch that quickly?
00:39I mean, I imagine you, given the person you are, that you go home and you're watching some competition,
00:45literally after you've just got booked a place, is that how quickly you turn to the next game?
00:50We have to. We're so used to it.
00:52And as well, first of all, to evaluate that game, that's the first thing that we have to do
00:56to understand and use those similarities that I think can help us for the next game as well,
01:01and start the preparation and start to think about the condition of the players,
01:05the load of the players, what the game is going to require,
01:08what are the best players to start the game, and start doing that process again.
01:12Have you seen it with the players as well, how quickly they can switch?
01:15Remember earlier this season, we saw Saliba on the bus after the Fulham game,
01:18Saturday, at Atletico Madrid. Has it got to that point now where the players like you
01:23can switch as soon as they've done that game and think, right, something's at the level?
01:26Yes, and sometimes you need to switch off and they need to just disconnect a little bit
01:31and then go again. But sometimes a lot of players are incredibly fast,
01:35they want the clips, they want to review the game, they want to do this, they want information,
01:39and that's great, we have to use it in the right way, but it can be really powerful.
01:44On the recent deadline date in terms of transfers, you brought in two youngsters,
01:50Evan Mooney and Jamie Dixon, I assume, for the academy set-up.
01:54First of all, are they going to be around the first team, which is in the selection,
01:57and they were both with decent fees. Is this a new trend that's going on at Arsenal,
02:01where you're buying young kids from the age of about 20 and then seeing if they can translate
02:07into the first team?
02:09Yes, it is obviously part of the plan and we need to continue to reinforce
02:13because that's the best way, when we bring them early and when we know their characters
02:17and the pathway is clear and they've been with us in different ways,
02:21I think it makes that jump much easier, so we will continue to try to do that,
02:26and if they can be around the team in the right moments, they will be.
02:31In recent years, you've had a bunch of ex-Arsenal people in the set-up,
02:35the likes of Edu, Jundberg, Per Mersak, who is obviously going in the summer.
02:39In the future, are you looking to bring in a few more ex-Arsenal people,
02:44either you played with or used to play it, to form a fed back nucleus,
02:48which has kind of not been there in the last few years?
02:50Yes, if we have the opportunity, the right roles and we believe that it can add value,
02:55for sure I think it's a really important thing to have around the club.
02:59And secondly, on Martin Odegaard, your captain, is a captain undroppable,
03:04or is he someone that you don't, because obviously he's injured at the minute,
03:08is he, in terms of him, is he, is this place in this team,
03:11so he's a captain or could he be dropped depending on the floor?
03:15Our captain is unbelievable, I love him, he's so good,
03:18and he will continue to be the captain and he will continue to be so good.
03:21But will he start the three weeks depending on...
03:23Ask me the question with any other player.
03:25The answer is going to be the same defence, they have to earn it.
03:28Everybody has to earn their place.
03:30That's it.
03:31Last couple, Gary?
03:32Can I just sort of take you back to Tuesday?
03:34I've heard that you were saying to Simon,
03:35it feels like you were really thinking about Simon,
03:37but when you went home, what did you do?
03:41Did you have dinner with your wife?
03:43What did you do?
03:45You want the menu?
03:47I had dinner in the stadium, macaroni, cheese, and I think it was a burger,
03:56not very healthy because it's what you had, and some sushi.
03:59And then I had some friends as well and I spent some time with them
04:02and then I went to bed.
04:03That was the plan.
04:04Did you go to bed late after that?
04:06To the right side of the bed and then I was there and tried to, yeah.
04:13In the past you used things like the olive trees and other things
04:18that message it for your players.
04:20Are you using anything different this year as messaging for the players
04:25as an item that you would use?
04:28Yeah, every year we use different things.
04:30Every moment requires a different theme, I think, yeah.
04:33What is it this year?
04:34Next year I will tell you.
04:36Thanks, Gary.
04:38Finally we go to Ed.
04:39I don't want to dwell on the incident.
04:41We have done that, Ed.
04:43We have done it.
04:44Just generally, last week you spoke a little bit about mind games
04:47and then there's that incident.
04:48I just wondered, as you're obviously at the top,
04:50you're doing so well this season,
04:51is that something you're going to have to cope with,
04:53you know, every week that people are going to try and unsettle you
04:56with different kind of methods or whatever they can?
05:00I don't know, but I don't know.
05:04I have no idea, but I don't think that that was the intention at all.
05:07Is that something that you just,
05:09you're obviously trying not to engage with any advantage,
05:12trying to keep your vision, you know,
05:14and not listen to anything else?
05:16I will engage with the things that, in my opinion,
05:18are relevant for the team and what is the best for the team
05:20and the club, that's for sure.
05:22I just wondered if you've spoken to Orson Klinger
05:25or anybody about that kind of help,
05:27dealing with that kind of thing,
05:28when they're going to get to the top, you know,
05:30in the title of what is it?
05:31Yeah, with that same, with other managers,
05:33I have experienced myself in one side, in the other,
05:35what is the best thing, in my opinion, to do,
05:37and then we'll make the right decisions based on that.
05:41OK, guys, thanks very much.
05:44See you tomorrow.
