07:27The visibility is so low, if you're going to go deep, you almost need to make an instrument landing into the arms of a receiver.
07:36As May is going to go to the right side, and Booty is not in sync with his quarterback there.
07:42Moss on the coverage.
07:44Now you've got a third and sixth with 58 seconds to go in the quarter.
07:47I mean, it's just a different game.
07:50Right now, it's like no field goal is guaranteed.
07:52We already saw the two of this earlier in the game.
07:54I think you've got to always protect the ball.
07:58You've got a three-point lead.
07:59At the same time, if you're going to be aggressive this quarter, if the conditions stay the same.
08:06Look at that.
08:07You want to know where that ball went off to the right.
08:11You know in golf, it's howling left to right, downwind.
08:14Sorry.
08:16Yeah, Stavison tries to push his locker in a certain direction to help him, but Broncos are wise to it.
08:24I think this will be the hardest kick that I've seen a kicker have in quite some time from this distance.
08:36He can make it for sure, but it ain't easy.
08:39Oregalas.
08:40One for two.
08:41He missed that long-distance try right at the end of the half made from 23.
08:47This is 46 yards.
08:48Kicks on the way, and that is wide right.
09:07Good call there, Tony.
09:08It's just, you see, early in the year, easy.
09:13This time, these conditions, as they're changing in real time, very difficult.
09:18This is a game.
09:34What do you know about my dad?
09:35Who has a story about Odysseus, huh?
09:38You, you, you have a story?
09:46A war.
09:53A man.
09:58A trick.
09:59A trick to break the wall to Troy.
10:07And by Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, July 17th.
10:13Okay, The Odyssey comes out in July, but this is a little winter odyssey taking place here in the Mile High City.
10:22In the final seconds of the third quarter, Deshaun Payton's team is down 10-7.
10:29After having struck first for a touchdown on their second drive of the game,
10:35but not much to report after that for this offense.
10:40The running game has been stagnant.
10:42I can't remember the last time I've seen the conditions change this quickly during a game of this magnitude.
10:48Go to the ground, and Jennings is waiting for Harvey.
10:53And that play will run out the quarter, and now they can flip.
10:57And Denver will have the wind at its back.
10:59And Sean was smart, he knew, just run the ball here, get us to the fourth, and give us a chance to head
11:05to the Super Bowl, possibly.
11:09On the line here.
11:18One quarter, it's a Super Bowl 60.
11:21And a game that began with teams warming up and bright sunshine has now looked more like a blizzard here in the second half
11:31as we start this fourth quarter.
11:33I don't even think it looks like it.
11:34I think it actually meant second and nine over to Mims.
11:37Two blockers up ahead.
11:39And let's get more on these conditions on the field from Tracy.
11:43Jim, these conditions have changed dramatically down here.
11:48And as you mentioned, the Patriots now are going to have to deal with the snow directly in their face.
11:54And you can see from this direction.
11:56And then, when I turn around, I can actually open my eyes, and it feels a lot better.
12:01But I can tell you the temperature has dropped dramatically.
12:05The wind is swirling around.
12:07It will not only affect these quarterbacks, but the kicking game as well.
12:11As we saw with the missed field goal, in that left to right, howling wind, as you call it, Tony.
12:16The third and five.
12:18Stidham going to get the first.
12:19Oh, the ball is in the hands of his receiver.
12:22But Jones broke it up.
12:23And little Jordan Humphrey.
12:25That would have been a big first down for the Broncos.
12:28Would have been huge.
12:29They're going to play man-to-man.
12:30This is one area.
12:31When you get these type of conditions, that's a great throw, by the way, by Stidham.
12:36That's got to be caught.
12:38The problem is the conditions are very difficult.
12:40Well, that's why you play man-to-man, Jim, because, like, throw it perfectly, make the catch, going to be hard to do.
12:46They've run only six plays in the second half.
12:49To 22 for the Patriots.
12:52Humphrey getting more reps again with Pat Bryant being injured in this game.
12:57Last week, he might have dropped the touchdown on the Sun.
13:00Today, dropped the ball in the snow.
13:02It's the snow.
13:02And they're going to signal touchback.
13:11Just a net of 40.
13:13You're watching the AFC Championship.
13:16Presented by Intuit TurboTax.
13:21Drive to ride.
13:25Volkswagen Tiguan.
13:27Now anybody can drive like somebody.
13:29And by Dayquil, the daytime, coughing, aching, nine-to-none medicine.
13:37They try to clear the sidelines, the hard lines, the hash marks.
13:41What a sight here in this AFC title game.
13:54Number 20, Stevenson.
13:56It's the handle and a great drive starter and a pickup of 11.
14:02Absolutely huge.
14:03Got to be able to run the ball in these conditions.
14:04Let's go down to Evan.
14:05Well, Jim, we've been talking about it for the last 10 minutes.
14:08Now, New England is going directly in the wind.
14:11It's more of a gusting wind right now, so they'll get some respite at times.
14:15We saw the footing starting to be an issue as well.
14:18Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels spent a lot of time together in between these two possessions.
14:24You have to imagine they're going to start to talk about how they want to approach this
14:28when it comes to offensive play calling.
14:30There's a handoff to Stevenson.
14:31This game's so tense.
14:32Evan Watchburn's gone gray.
14:38Ev?
14:39He has a hat for you if you need it.
14:42Yeah, I think MC could be proud.
14:46This is next level Frost and Ticks.
14:48Well played, well played, but there you go.
14:51That was awesome.
14:53He's fun.
14:56Second and eight.
14:57But it is a big deal.
15:00Like literally, he said it, they are going to have to change the way they call the game.
15:04Stevenson, they are really riding him hard, and he's delivering.
15:08Cooper finally brings it to a halt after four.
15:13I've been incredibly impressed with him this year.
15:15When you put the tape on, he's physical.
15:18He's as good a pass pro blocker.
15:19In other words, in pass protection as anybody.
15:23He's been well coached.
15:24He knows where to go.
15:26They use him a lot, and they're keeping him in here on third down.
15:29And I feel like right now, it's got to be short passing.
15:32They're into the wind in these conditions.
15:34Hard to see.
15:35It's just a different game right now than it was earlier.
15:45Third and four.
15:48May has time.
15:50Now it breaks down.
15:51And they sack him.
15:55DJ Jones got to him first.
15:59And they back him up eight yards.
16:03This is a little bit of a coverage sack because everyone's guarding their guy,
16:08and it's a little bit tougher.
16:11You could argue to find people all in white when everything is white on the field
16:16because the players, I honestly think that could actually play a role.
16:20Orange is going to be easier to see.
16:22And to me, that was a coverage sack.
16:25Great job by Denver getting a stop.
16:29Berringer, a six punt.
16:34Went to the round at the 35 and out of bounds.
16:36At the 30 with 11 and a half to go.
16:40The 37-yard punt.
16:42Bring on the snow.
16:49What a postseason that's been for the NFL.
16:50All these comebacks.
16:52Lead January.
16:57As we have, again, 11.
17:0029 to go.
17:02And the Broncos are down three.
17:03And up to Harvey.
17:08Trying to run away from tacklers.
17:10And he turns it upfield for the best play of the second half.
17:15Their number of snaps has been sparse,
17:18but that was a nice cut here by Harvey to pick up nine.
17:21Well, you'll see coming off the edge,
17:23to me, you usually have a negative play right there.
17:28And the reason why you get yards,
17:30these conditions do matter in the sense that footing.
17:33So you can't get off blocks as much.
17:35It should technically help the offense
17:37because they know where they're going.
17:39And so the defense is going to have to change up the way they do it.
17:41And they're downwind, Jim.
17:43We talked about this.
17:44Advantage Denver, but they're down by three.
17:46Have not had a first down picked up in this half.
17:49But now they've got a second and one.
17:52Go back to Harvey.
17:53He's going to try to cut away again from Jennings.
17:57But there are other defenders waiting to pile on.
18:00And now you've got a third and one.
18:03Ellis again in on that play.
18:06The strength of New England
18:08throughout most of the year
18:11and also in the playoffs for sure
18:12has just been the interior of the D-line.
18:14It's going to be hard to run the ball
18:15and these guys consistently.
18:16These plays right here determine your seasons.
18:18I mean, we saw the fourth down.
18:20That's why New England has the lead.
18:21They stopped Denver earlier.
18:23Created the fumble opportunity for Stidham.
18:25And now all of a sudden
18:26they're at another huge third
18:27in one situation on their own side.
18:30Be hard for me to say go for it
18:31if you don't get this.
18:32The day is running back.
18:36He gets the handle.
18:37He's got the first down.
18:38Again, the initial first down of the second half.
18:43This is all the eye candy, the motion.
18:45Get the running back out
18:46and then come back in smart by Sean.
18:48March 1st, a new era of Yellowstone begins.
18:51Luke Grimes, stars of the CBS original Marshalls.
18:54The series premiere Sunday, March 1st on CBS.
19:02You could argue both teams would take
19:04exactly where they're at
19:05before the game started, Jim.
19:07In other words, we got a backup quarterback.
19:09It's like, are we going to be in the game?
19:10You're in the game.
19:11You're down three.
19:12You got the ball.
19:13New England, you're up three.
19:14On the road.
19:15In the AFC Championship in the fourth.
19:17You take that two.
19:17After Bidette's first touch of the game,
19:21play-action fake.
19:23Instead of throwing away from Marmore,
19:26and he does.
19:28To the New England sideline.
19:31I mean, this is a two-man route.
19:34Because, you know,
19:36they were literally guessing
19:37they were going to pressure there.
19:38And as soon as they went out and played coverage,
19:40and not everyone came after you,
19:42it's just two guys in the route.
19:43And you'll see DB's,
19:45second-level players all over the place.
19:47Marmore's running down.
19:49Smart by Stedham,
19:50throw it away.
19:53Hard to tell,
19:54but the ball is on a 43.
19:56It is hard to tell.
19:57Their own a 43.
20:06Empty backfield on the second and 10 snaps.
20:09That's dangerous.
20:10Trying to get it to Ingram.
20:12The Patriots were there
20:15threatening to take the ball away.
20:17The chase on who's
20:19only had a whole renaissance of his career,
20:22the former first-round pick by Jackson.
20:23This is what happened early in the game.
20:25There's empty.
20:26There's no running back back here.
20:27Well, earlier,
20:28they tried to throw an outside screen.
20:30Well, guess what?
20:30New England says,
20:31let's show them the same look
20:32when they go empty
20:33with no running back in the backfield.
20:35And they try a different screen.
20:36And you've got two guys over there.
20:39New England adjusted smartly.
20:41I think empty's gone for Denver.
20:42Just give you heads up the rest of the game.
20:45Now you've got a third and 10.
20:46Oh, my God.
20:47Oh, my God.
20:48Oh, my God.
20:48Ready.
20:49Let's go.
20:50Oh, my God.
20:50Ready.
20:51Let's go.
20:54Stidham.
20:55In traffic.
20:56Dumps it off.
20:57Short game.
20:59Not much there at all for Moore.
21:01Elijah Moore.
21:01This has been the big adjustment
21:03for New England in the second half.
21:06Just rushing the passer,
21:08playing man-to-man,
21:09and saying,
21:10go beat us.
21:11And since they've gotten rid
21:12of the zone coverages,
21:14they've actually really done a great job
21:16and made it hard for Denver.
21:17And that's winning them the game
21:18in some ways.
21:20If you want to see a big play
21:22by a punter,
21:22this has the potential
21:23to be just that.
21:26Given, again,
21:26what New England would face
21:27going left to right.
21:29If he could find
21:31the Coffin Corner
21:31like he has
21:33in recent weeks,
21:36they could get Denver's defense
21:37a chance to try to win.
21:39There you go.
21:40It wasn't ideal
21:41with the conditions.
21:43It was almost that low,
21:45little squeaky save,
21:47but it works out perfectly.
21:48And like you said,
21:49puts him back
21:50into tough conditions
21:52with a long field to go.
21:54Nine-yard line.
21:54Nine-eight-nine.
21:55Nine-yard line.
21:5744-yard punt.
21:58A little knockdown punt.
22:00He backs up New England.
22:04All right, let's go.
22:05Let's go.
22:06Let's get it.
22:07He's back on the PGA Tour.
22:09Part of an excellent field.
22:10It includes the likes
22:11of Max Oma,
22:12Hideki Matsuyama,
22:13Tony Finau,
22:15Patrick Cantlay,
22:16and Xander Shopley
22:17at the Farmers Insurance Open
22:19right here on CBS
22:20and streaming.
22:21One paramount plus.
22:22They mark it at the
22:29eight-yard line.
22:32At the cross draw,
22:33got the job done.
22:39And the running back slips
22:41and May cuts his losses.
22:45Stevenson trying to take off.
22:47Got the pedal stuck.
22:48So when two people slip,
22:52you'll see Stevenson first.
22:54You go ahead and slip.
22:55Now, Drake, you slip.
22:57There you go.
22:58That's when you know
22:59the conditions are tough.
23:01This is why that punt
23:02down to the eight-yard line
23:04was so critical.
23:05You called it, Jim.
23:06You were exactly right.
23:07You said if they can actually
23:08pin them there
23:09in the call for the corner
23:10and they did it,
23:11it's going to be very difficult.
23:13And I'm telling you,
23:14the fact they have
23:14a three-point lead,
23:16huge.
23:17Second and 13.
23:19Stevenson.
23:22Times to power ahead.
23:23Surtan,
23:24as long as Surtan's
23:24had a big afternoon.
23:26Holds him to a two-yard game,
23:28third and 11.
23:29This is just such a tough call
23:31if I'm Josh McDaniels
23:34because I know I have Drake
23:35made an MVP candidate
23:36if he's in his second year
23:37against one of the best defenses.
23:39Mike Vrabel knows it.
23:40They're talking to each other.
23:41Vrabel says,
23:42what do you think, kid?
23:43He goes, I'm going here.
23:43He goes, all right, go do it.
23:45And here it comes.
23:46How aggressive
23:46do you really want to be?
23:48Yep.
23:48In these conditions.
23:51What can you do?
23:52You can see the snow sideways.
23:56Rolling through the goal line
23:58and lofting it out of bounds.
23:59They literally decided
24:02to throw the ball away.
24:04Wow.
24:05That was the play call.
24:06Basically, if he's wide open,
24:08you throw it.
24:08If it's even close,
24:10you throw it over his head
24:11as if you were just going to say,
24:13we are not turning the ball over.
24:15I don't believe this other team
24:16can score.
24:18Pun him the ball.
24:18Problem is,
24:19these conditions,
24:20I mean,
24:22do you try and block this punt right now
24:23or do you go ahead and return it
24:25with Mims?
24:26Who's good?
24:26I think we're going to try and return it.
24:28How far can you boot a two
24:29into this win?
24:30Denver forced the most punts
24:32in the league this year
24:33in a regular season
24:34with 90.
24:35And this is the seventh one
24:36forced today.
24:38As Mims is standing here
24:40in midfield.
24:40We're not going to kick a good one,
24:42I can promise you that.
24:46We couldn't even see the ball
24:47from up here.
24:48I mean,
24:48it's low visibility.
24:51And look at,
24:51they're going to have
24:52excellent field position here
24:55inside seven minutes to go.
24:57I'd love to tell you
24:59exactly where they've marked
25:01the football,
25:01but folks,
25:03it would just be a wild guess.
25:06I'm guessing 32.
25:0732-yard line is about
25:09what it looks like.
25:09That is a guess.
25:10Yep.
25:11Again,
25:11you've got coming up
25:12behind this,
25:13the Rams and the Seahawks
25:15for the third time this year.
25:17The NFC West rivals
25:19meet for the NFC Championship
25:21on Fox
25:22after this one.
25:27Pretty good guess.
25:31Ball is on the 33-yard line
25:33of New England.
25:35Stidham
25:36really aggressively
25:37sending a message
25:39to his huddle.
25:42This is why you,
25:44like,
25:44every time you coach,
25:46you sit there
25:47and somebody teaches you stuff
25:48and Parcells taught,
25:49Belichick,
25:51I mean,
25:51Sean Payton,
25:52Vrabel,
25:52they all know this.
25:53It's like,
25:53when you're in this situation,
25:55you protect the football
25:56and you figure it out
25:57and you expect your defense
25:58to hold up,
25:59but it depends on what direction
26:00you're going.
26:00We'll see.
26:02Go to the ground,
26:03they get backed up.
26:04Tonga is one of those
26:06in on them.
26:07Harvey loses about three yards
26:09and just to go through
26:10the time lapse,
26:11this was today.
26:13This is today.
26:14First half of the game,
26:15first play of the second half
26:16and then look as the third quarter
26:18progressed.
26:19You talked about how
26:20that's the third quarter.
26:21It changed.
26:22Oh, five minutes,
26:23we started to feel it come down.
26:24Started to see collection
26:25and I was like,
26:26uh-oh,
26:26this is switching
26:27and now here's live.
26:29There you go.
26:30I mean,
26:31I haven't ever done it
26:32since I've been announcing.
26:34You probably have never done it.
26:34I had the game
26:35in New England years ago.
26:36I have not seen it
26:37change this dramatically
26:39within half a quarter
26:40to a quarter.
26:41Second and 12,
26:42lofting it over to Harvey.
26:43Harvey flips through one tackle
26:45and Davis waits for him.
26:47They never did bring him down,
26:49but the whistle blows.
26:50Yeah,
26:50you got to wonder,
26:51too,
26:51like right now
26:52you supposedly have
26:53a little bit of favorable
26:55wind conditions,
26:57but what is the field goal range
26:58for a guy like Will Lutz?
27:01I don't think you have
27:02any data on that right now.
27:04And so for Sean,
27:05I would have went over to him
27:06before I started this series
27:07and been like,
27:08where can you kick this from
27:09if it's exactly what it is now?
27:10The problem is
27:11it's swirling.
27:13So it could be
27:13a little bit down,
27:15cross,
27:15help wind,
27:16hurt wind,
27:17and then it goes right back
27:18to what it should be help.
27:19But to me,
27:19you've got to get first downs.
27:21I'm not depending
27:21on the field goal right now.
27:23Lutz with the helmet
27:23and standing by the heaters
27:25on this important
27:26third and 12 snap.
27:28Stidham,
27:28Stidham every step
27:29closer to the field goal.
27:31And as he gets within
27:32about three of the first.
27:34Well, you'll see
27:39just looking downfield
27:40and it's very difficult.
27:42The jerseys from New England
27:44blend in with the snow.
27:46We talked about it earlier,
27:48but I think that gives them
27:50the ability to kick this field goal.
27:51Those extra yards,
27:52I would do it.
27:54We'll see though.
27:54It's very random at the moment.
27:56Five minutes to go.
27:58It's going to be 46 yards.
28:0046 yards in a blizzard.
28:04Oh, God was missed
28:06going in this direction.
28:09Earlier in this half,
28:10just to tie the game.
28:12And the kick.
28:14No good.
28:17Just impossible conditions
28:18here in Denver.
28:24Mike Crabill decides
28:25to have his quarterback
28:26roll out, Josh McDaniels.
28:28If he's open, throw it,
28:29throw it away
28:30because they don't think
28:31the other team could score.
28:32And look at how tough it is
28:33to put the ball down.
28:34Does a great job there.
28:36But the wind,
28:38the conditions to see,
28:39it's whatever you're seeing on TV,
28:41I promise you,
28:42it's way worse on the field.
28:48Oh, it was missed.
28:49How about that?
28:50Just brought up Leonard Taylor
28:51off the practice squad
28:53last night.
28:55Dipped it.
28:55That ball is made
28:57if he doesn't touch that ball.
28:59That was 45 officially now.
29:03Not 46.
29:04They, again,
29:05even official stats
29:06has had a hard time
29:07coming up with
29:08the proper spottings
29:09and numbers.
29:10Yep.
29:10But what a play
29:12by a guy
29:13just brought up
29:14to the active roster.
29:16For a game
29:17that's been every play,
29:18we knew it was going to be
29:19a battle on defense.
29:20But now it's like,
29:21you've got to protect the football.
29:22It's almost more important
29:23than getting your first down.
29:24Of course,
29:25you missed the kick
29:25and it changes field position, too.
29:27And Stevenson
29:28takes it for about
29:29three.
29:31Now,
29:32going back
29:32to the first half.
29:34I know.
29:35And Denver
29:35was leading
29:367-0.
29:39They went for it
29:40on fourth and one.
29:42Yep.
29:42And you had said
29:43pre-call
29:44you felt
29:45this might be the time
29:46to kick the field goal
29:47and go up 10-0.
29:49And again,
29:49you just never know.
29:50You're exactly right.
29:51Just because you just
29:52do all the math,
29:53all the permutations
29:54and you're like,
29:54I don't think this team
29:55could score a ton on us today.
29:56Our defense
29:57were at home.
29:58All this,
29:58we go up by 10.
30:00They pushed
30:00they would have
30:00kicked that field goal
30:01now right now.
30:02Second and eight.
30:04Stevenson
30:04hit the backfield
30:06and finished off
30:07by Roach.
30:09Roach came up
30:10huge last week.
30:12And he's been
30:13outstanding
30:14on the interior.
30:16Jones made a great
30:17play as well there.
30:19But
30:19it's just gonna be
30:20hard to get a first down
30:21for either team.
30:22And if somebody can,
30:23they might win the game
30:24because they might score.
30:26Who knows,
30:29maybe you'll see
30:30a defensive score
30:30in this game
30:31before it's over.
30:33We've got a third
30:34and nine
30:35with three and a half
30:36to go.
30:45And they're going to
30:46stay on the ground.
30:46How about that?
30:47How about that?
30:48They stay on the ground
30:49for no gain.
30:50and they are 100%
30:51entrusting their defense.
30:53You shot in the last drive,
30:55a couple handoffs,
30:56and they almost threw
30:57the ball away
30:57on third down
30:58with seven minutes to go.
31:00And I'm like,
31:00that's a little early,
31:02maybe.
31:03Well,
31:04these conditions,
31:05he's like,
31:05get over here.
31:06You did your job.
31:07You ran off
31:07a couple minutes.
31:09Come on back.
31:10Our defense
31:11will win us this game.
31:13We'll find out.
31:14They're saying it.
31:15They got a backup
31:15quarterback in Denver.
31:18What an opportunity
31:19for Jared Sinema
31:19here, Jim.
31:20Timeout.
31:22Timeout called here
31:23by the Broncos,
31:26and that leaves them
31:26with only one.
31:29I talked about the drama
31:30in this postseason.
31:32Five fourth quarter
31:33comeback wins.
31:34That's tied for the most.
31:35Six games with winning points
31:37scored in the final
31:38three minutes.
31:39And how about the
31:3915 fourth quarter
31:41lead changes,
31:42which is the most
31:43in a single postseason
31:44all time.
31:45There's never been
31:46more than 10
31:46in any previous
31:48postseason in league
31:49history.
31:50We've had 15.
31:51Will there be
31:51another one today?
31:52Let's go down
31:53the trace real quick.
31:54Something to keep
31:55an eye on.
31:56Jared Stidham
31:56when he slid
31:57on that last drive,
31:58came off Jim Durley,
32:00and the athletic
32:01trainers were looking
32:01at him.
32:02It looked to be cramping.
32:03They were giving him
32:04electrolytes
32:04and hydrating him.
32:06Now, remember,
32:07he hasn't played
32:07in a regular season
32:08game since 2023,
32:10so certainly between
32:11and the altitude
32:11and the amount
32:12he's played,
32:13you can see cramping
32:14become a problem,
32:15but something to watch.
32:16He's on the sideline,
32:17so ready to go back in.
32:18Something else to watch
32:19is Mims.
32:20Can he get some separation
32:21and give the Broncos
32:23a chance with a return?
32:25All right,
32:25he can kick it to him.
32:26It's hard to keep
32:27the ball in bounds
32:27with the crosswind
32:28for both punters,
32:31and now one plate
32:34can win the game.
32:35Someone could fall down.
32:36There's a lot
32:36that could happen here.
32:41It's a 33-yard punt,
32:43which is pretty good
32:44in these conditions.
32:54Just to give you an idea,
32:55we're still awaiting
32:56word from official stats
32:58where the football is
32:59as far as the yardage,
33:02yard line.
33:05Hey, let's just play ball.
33:08Try to get it down
33:08the field
33:09and see what you can do
33:09with it.
33:10With three minutes to go,
33:11the 32-yard line.
33:13Stidham in the pocket
33:21wanting to heave it
33:22now just shoves it
33:23to Harvey,
33:25and that's only going to be
33:26maybe a half yard
33:27if anything at all.
33:29He was thinking deep,
33:30though, for a minute, Tony.
33:31He was thinking outside here.
33:33Take a look here.
33:34He's about to throw that
33:36and then decides not to
33:38and then shovels it out,
33:39which I think is incorrectly.
33:41Just throw that in the dirt.
33:43or run,
33:44but it's tough, Jim.
33:45I mean, honestly,
33:46it's hard to see everything
33:47in these conditions
33:48and New England
33:50has a slight advantage
33:51with obviously blending in
33:52with the snow.
33:53Did you see enough
33:54on that replay
33:55with Mims
33:56for him to go ahead
33:57and chuck it down the field?
33:58If Mims would have widened
34:00once he went inside,
34:02I thought it was smart
34:02not to throw it.
34:03Great question.
34:04Second to none.
34:07Rushing five.
34:08This is a deep throw
34:09and it is picked off.
34:11Intercepted.
34:13Waiting for it
34:14was Gonzalez
34:15with 2.11 to go.
34:19The two-minute warning
34:20and only one Denver timeout
34:22and the New England defense
34:24comes up with the takeaway.
34:27No one's been better
34:27than Gonzalez
34:28this postseason.
34:30He's been playing outstanding.
34:32Gave up one play earlier today,
34:33but other than that
34:34and right here,
34:35he sensed
34:36that they might take a shot
34:38on the previous play.
34:40They come back
34:41to trying to look there.
34:42This time he just widens,
34:44basically doesn't get up closer.
34:46The wide receiver stays deep
34:47and that was
34:48just a really poor decision
34:50by Stidham there.
34:51Needed to go through
34:52the progression.
34:53I asked you,
34:54should they have
34:54heaved it down the field
34:55on the previous play
34:56and I think Denver thought
34:57there was an opportunity there.
34:59They came back
35:00and Patriots were up for it
35:02and wise to it.
35:03And they adjusted.
35:04Gonzalez actually
35:05basically backed off
35:07two, three yards pre-snap
35:08understanding
35:09they might come back to it
35:10and they did
35:11from their 36-yard line.
35:14Can they just run it out?
35:16Let's see.
35:19They're the first down
35:20to make that happen
35:20but that is a
35:22opening play
35:24on that drive
35:25for about three.
35:27Make it four.
35:29Two-minute warning.
35:32Fairytale setting
35:33here in the Mile High City
35:34with a Super Bowl
35:36on the line
35:36at two minutes to go.
35:40And is this just
35:42into the lens?
35:43Extra Strength Liquid Gels.
35:46The number one
35:47doctor-recommended
35:48pain relief brand
35:49is now at the speed
35:51of liquid
35:51because when pain strikes,
35:54care can't wait.
35:57Taco Bell's new
35:57Lutz Value menu
35:58has so much Lutz.
35:59It's starting to go
36:00to people's heads.
36:01I'm the Lutzier.
36:02Which is the
36:03mini taco salad fork?
36:04Here to help them cope.
36:06So when you try
36:07the mini taco salad,
36:08beefy potato loaded griller
36:09or chips and nacho
36:10supreme dip,
36:12enjoy the Lutz.
36:13Just don't let it
36:14go to your head.
36:15Yeah, bring the car around.
36:16You know there's no valet.
36:19Then who's getting the car?
36:21I said the house on...
36:22Taco Bell's new
36:22Lutz Value menu.
36:2310 extravagant indulgences,
36:25all $3 or less.
36:26This is Fresh Pet.
36:28Here, there are no fillers,
36:31no spray-on flavors,
36:32no compromises,
36:33just vet-developed recipes
36:35packed with fresh meat
36:36and healthy veggies
36:38because real fresh food
36:39belongs in everybody's bowl.
36:45The NFL on CBS
36:47is sponsored by Chevrolet.
36:49Together, let's drive.
36:51And by Taco Bell.
37:00At the State Farm
37:01postgame show
37:02coming up after this,
37:04including the presentation
37:05of the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
37:08That's all coming up
37:09on the State Farm
37:10postgame show.
37:12Two minutes to go.
37:13The Broncos have only
37:15one timeout.
37:19Ball on the new end, 140.
37:24Here it is.
37:25You gotta be safe.
37:26We know that Newton's
37:27been very protective
37:28his last drive or two.
37:29We're gonna do it again.
37:30Gotta stop him.
37:32And they do.
37:33Stevenson shut down
37:34at the line of scrimmage.
37:37This is a great
37:39situational football
37:40to me.
37:41If you want to throw
37:43the ball, you end
37:43the game, right?
37:45You get a first down,
37:46you throw an eight yard
37:47out, game's over,
37:48you're heading to the
37:48Super Bowl.
37:49But the conditions matter.
37:52Do you trust your defense
37:53100%?
37:55Or do you trust
37:56Drake May in these
37:57conditions 100%?
37:59Feels like they're
38:00gonna run the ball,
38:00doesn't it?
38:01Well, based on what we've
38:02seen in the last two
38:03third downs,
38:04I think they're just
38:04not gonna risk it
38:05against this defense.
38:08I think I agree with you,
38:09Jim.
38:09And now,
38:10doesn't mean that I
38:11wouldn't possibly make a
38:13chance where there's
38:14something being thrown
38:16shorter to try and use
38:18the conditions to get a
38:20first down against the
38:21defense, but we'll see
38:22Ryder.
38:22Broncos have taken the
38:24last time out,
38:25and here we go.
38:26This could close it
38:27third and six.
38:28No safety deep.
38:34Oh, here he goes.
38:35He can try to beat him
38:36with his legs.
38:37Because Ellis runs after
38:38him, and May got there!
38:41Drake May outbraces the
38:43defender, and the Patriots
38:46now only need to fall on it,
38:48kneel on it, and they can
38:50make their plans for Santa
38:52Clara.
38:53Drake May, and the
38:55aggressive call by Josh
38:57McDaniel sends New England
38:59to the Super Bowl with a
39:02really, really aggressive
39:04call, and that is a first
39:06down.
39:06I'm telling you, they almost
39:10set him up.
39:11That is an aggressive call.
39:12What a smart call.
39:15As long as they get the
39:16snap.
39:18Three times.
39:21As the Broncos try to go
39:23low, and they've got a flag
39:25on this one.
39:26May with seven rushes today,
39:28six of them produced first
39:29downs.
39:30Defense number 93, five-yard
39:33penalty, still first down.
39:34That's still such an
39:35aggressive call.
39:36I mean, huge.
39:37What a call.
39:38Again, you've got the
39:39State Farm postgame show.
39:40JB and the crew will recap
39:41the game, and we'll have
39:43the trophy presentation, the
39:44Lamar Hunt trophy
39:45presentation coming up on
39:47the State Farm postgame
39:48show.
39:48The honorary captain who
39:50will present the trophy to
39:52the Patriots is Adam
39:54Vinatieri.
39:56And it had been the
39:57Broncos' day.
39:58Of course, we still got to
39:59close this out with 1.51 to
40:00go.
40:01John Elway, the Broncos'
40:03honorary captain today.
40:05Just want to give a nod to
40:09all the men and women of
40:11this crew, 22 games into the
40:13season, bringing you all
40:15these incredible shots
40:16through the weather and all.
40:18and it's just an amazing story
40:23here.
40:23You look at May, he's going to be
40:25now heading to Santa Clara.
40:27He'll be the second youngest
40:28quarterback to start a Super
40:30Bowl, second only to Dan
40:32Marino, 23 years old.
40:34When he was 13 and the game was
40:38Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara,
40:40growing up in Charlotte, he was a
40:41big Carolina Panther fan.
40:43And as they were making their way
40:44through the postseason, his dad,
40:45Mark said, we got to go.
40:47So they traveled from Charlotte
40:48up to Santa Clara.
40:49They didn't have tickets.
40:50They found some out there.
40:52And he sat in the second deck
40:54and watched that Super Bowl.
40:56It's the only Super Bowl he's
40:57ever been to.
40:59He was 13 in the same building
41:01where two weeks from now, he'll
41:02start and try to lead the
41:04Patriots to a world championship.
41:06I wonder if that 13-year-old kid
41:08said in 10 years, you're going
41:10back to the Super Bowl, but
41:11you're playing in it.
41:12What a moment for him.
41:14And the season he's had has been
41:15incredible.
41:16It does remind me.
41:17I'm not saying he's not Tom
41:18Brady, okay?
41:19He's got a way long way to go to
41:20get even into discussions of
41:22other people.
41:23However, overcoming and figuring
41:25out a way to win, young Tom
41:27Brady did the same thing and
41:28became Tom Brady.
41:29And we'll see how this thing
41:30develops.
41:31But what a game for New
41:33England situationally, the whole
41:35thing, and by the way, Drake
41:38Mace just done something that
41:39Tom Brady couldn't do, and
41:40that's win a playoff game in
41:42Denver.
41:42Tom was 0-3.
41:45And how about Mike Grable?
41:50What he's done with this
41:52culture and what he's done with
41:54his coaching staff, he brought
41:56in the right people, the way
41:58they built the roster, and the
42:00way that they developed, and to
42:01get this team rolling, I mean,
42:03the belief is there, but the
42:05they play football the right
42:06way.
42:07Every time I watch them, I'm
42:08like, that's correct.
42:09That's correct.
42:10That's correct.
42:10You just got to go to it.
42:12And today, the player two, it
42:14went their way.
42:15This could have gone either way
42:16though.
42:16You know that Denver was so
42:17close.
42:21Let's go down to Tracy.
42:22All right.
42:34Snow gremlins have overtaken
42:36Tracy's mic at the moment.
42:39I'm really talking about another
42:40mic.
42:40Mike Grable.
42:41He's going to go to the Super
42:42Bowl and try to do something no
42:43one's ever done before.
42:45And that's become the first
42:47person to win a Super Bowl as a
42:49player and as a coach for the same
42:52franchise.
42:53Well, that's crazy because going
42:54into this game, you had Sean
42:55Payton going for the only coach to
42:56win two Super Bowls with two
42:58separate franchises.
42:59That coach and now Vrabel's doing
43:01it as a player and a coach.
43:04I mean, the decisions you make for
43:06every organization in the National
43:08Football League as who you hire as
43:10the head coach determines your next
43:12five years, your future, and the
43:15decision for Denver to do that
43:16change it.
43:18Same with New England.
43:19And here's New England.
43:20They're in it.
43:20They're back, Jim.
43:22Let's go back down to Tracy.
43:24All right, Drake.
43:25Well, congratulations.
43:26You told us yesterday, 10 years
43:28ago, you were in Santa Clara at a
43:30Super Bowl watching as a fan.
43:31And now you're going to get a chance
43:33to play in it.
43:34Can you describe this in just year
43:36two of your NFL career?
43:37Man, Lord will.
43:38Man, thank the good Lord.
43:39What an atmosphere out here.
43:41Battle of the elements.
43:42Love this team.
43:43How about the defense?
43:44Love each other, man.
43:45Pass it back, baby.
43:47We've got to go win one.
43:48You talk about these elements.
43:49How difficult was it out here?
43:51And how much did you have to rely
43:52on your defense there?
43:53It wasn't ideal.
43:55Defense didn't step up all
43:56playoffs.
43:57We're going to play better.
43:59I'm just proud of this team, man.
44:00We don't have many words.
44:01So just thankful for this team.
44:04Love each and every one of them.
44:05Take care of everybody.
44:06Speaking of your team, let's
44:07talk about Coach Mike Rabel
44:08coming in, taking a team that won
44:10just four games last year to a
44:12Super Bowl.
44:13What can you say about him?
44:14Yeah, from day one, he's been
44:15the same guy.
44:16Coach is hard, but at the same
44:18time, he cares about us a lot.
44:19We love Coach.
44:20Love playing for him.
44:21We've got some more work to do.
44:22Go celebrate and good luck in
44:23Santa Clara.
44:26206 yards of total offense.
44:28That's all they could produce,
44:30but it was enough.
44:32Their defense did the rest,
44:33holding the Broncos to only 181
44:36yards.
44:37And now you see the Patriots are
44:39returning to the promised land.
44:41and will take on either the Los
44:43Angeles Rams or the Seattle Seahawks.
44:46Either way, they've seen that
44:48matchup in past Super Bowls.
44:51The Rams, in fact, on two
44:52occasions and the Seahawks, of
44:54course, in that famous game.
44:57And in Super Bowl 49, that game,
45:01the Rams and Seahawks will be
45:03presented to you by the Fox crew.
45:05We wish them all the very best.
45:06And NBC with the Super Bowl in a
45:09couple of weeks' time.
45:11Oh, they struck early, didn't they?
45:13And then May was able to tie it
45:14after a turnover.
45:167-7 game it was.
45:19Second half.
45:21Winter delivered quite a blow to the
45:24plans of both of these teams'
45:25offenses.
45:26Coming up next, State Farm postgame
45:29show, presentation of the Lamar Hunt
45:32Trophy for Tony, Tracy, Evan, and Gene.
45:35Jim Nance saying, thank you for being
45:36with us.
45:37James Brown's coming up after this.
45:39Well, we're halfway there,
45:40insurance.
