00:00I didn't become an actor seeking the glamour.
00:04I became an actor seeking to be part of the filmmaking process.
00:09Like, what kind of roles do you role?
00:11I appreciate good writing.
00:13I appreciate innovative ways of telling the story.
00:17So my journey is a little different from most actors.
00:20I'm the director. You give your left arm to work with one.
00:30One actor who you think is unnecessarily overhyped.
00:33My name is Lennabha.
00:36I always say that I'm better underrated than overrated.
00:40This film is again like takes you to the 90s romantic comedy.
00:45Jussie, Jussie, Jussie.
00:46What kind of story?
00:47I am so proud of you.
00:49Either in this film you are your name.
00:51Or you love Jussie from Jussie.
00:53After 10 years I think you're doing something so like a slice of life kind of film.
00:57It's true that I like characters which are closer to real life, more relatable.
01:02And I find them more interesting to play because I can see them as people and not as characters.
01:07Well today we have actors who are replying Indian cinema one film at a time.
01:12One who's a seasoned actor who's done equal parts.
01:15Wit, honesty and a lot of weight to his roles.
01:21And the other one is from a generation of actors who is sort of, you know, who doesn't need to be introduced.
01:28He's carving his own path.
01:30And now with his latest film Jussie, we're very excited that you're going to be showing a new side of yours.
01:38Thank you mother.
01:39I'm excited as well.
01:40So welcome to table.
01:41I'm excited as well.
01:42So welcome to table.
01:43So welcome to table.
01:44So welcome to table.
01:45So welcome to table.
01:46I'm so glad to have you over here.
01:47Pleasure to meet you.
01:48So I have seen a trailer and a dialogue.
01:53What?
01:54That God, you want to bring something out of my life.
01:57Right?
01:58Yes, you want to bring something out of my life.
02:00So what do you want to do in the truth?
02:02Yes, it's a good thing.
02:03That means, in your life, it will come out of your life.
02:06Who doesn't want it?
02:07Who doesn't want it?
02:08Who doesn't want it?
02:09Who doesn't want it?
02:10Who doesn't want it in their life.
02:11It will come out of your life and love it.
02:12But then that's something that happens.
02:13Working for it is a different thing.
02:15So.
02:16So?
02:17So I'm asking you.
02:18Are you actively watching someone?
02:21Who doesn't want it?
02:22Your personal life?
02:23Not really.
02:24I don't know if you know.
02:26I'm a father of a 14 year old.
02:29So priorities are changing with your age.
02:32So right now, parenting, my son, my ex-wife and my career are my main focus.
02:41If you want to go out and go out and go out and go out and go out, then okay?
02:44So.
02:45I'll do it.
02:46I'll do it.
02:47But I'll do it.
02:48But I'll do it.
02:49I'll do it.
02:50I'll do it.
02:51I'll do it.
02:52So this film is again, like takes you to the 90s comedy, romantic comedy.
02:58And you're playing the lead also.
02:59Right?
03:00So there are so many things that it's going to be confusing.
03:02Yes.
03:03Yes.
03:04Yes.
03:05Yes.
03:06Yes.
03:07Yes.
03:08Yes.
03:09Yes.
03:10Yes.
03:11Yes.
03:12Yes.
03:13Yes.
03:14Yes.
03:15Yes.
03:16Yes.
03:17Yes.
03:18Yes.
03:19Yes.
03:20Yes.
03:21Yes.
03:22Yes.
03:23Yes.
03:24Yes.
03:25Yes.
03:26Yes.
03:27Okay.
03:28Of course.
03:29Yes.
03:30Yes.
03:31Yes
03:32Yes.
03:33Yes.
03:34Yes
03:35And tell me one thing, like Tom about you
03:50You sort of like debuted with something that was very intense, romantic and everything.
03:57And then after 10 years, I think you're doing something so like a slice of life kind of film.
04:04Right?
04:04This is a slice of life kind of film.
04:06Sure.
04:07So how did that transition happen?
04:11I mean, I played a gangster, which was a larger than life, dialogue pickne wala filmy,
04:18or tribute to Selim Javed kind of cinema.
04:21That was also done.
04:23But yes, it's true that I like characters which are closer to real life, more relatable.
04:30And I find them more interesting to play because I can see them as people and not as characters.
04:37Okay.
04:37I like it.
04:38And what do you like doing more?
04:40Like, if I just want to do a personal character.
04:43Like, what kind of roles do you role?
04:45Like, um, technically, I feel like romance is a little bit more like second nature to me.
04:55All of us say that I'm a little bit of a character.
04:58But yes, I think thrill, action, intensity, that is, and the whole cool factor that comes with it,
05:05that is also something interesting and I would like to explore.
05:07But yes, romance and intensity is definitely something that is easier for me to do.
05:15Easier for you to do.
05:16And you enjoy doing it.
05:18Of course, of course.
05:19And what about you, sir?
05:21I don't have any preferences as far as genre is concerned.
05:24I am attracted to good writing.
05:26I am attracted to innovative directing, you know, a new way to tell a story.
05:35So these are the things which attract me.
05:37I think because also as an actor, I find because I spent a lot of time behind the camera before
05:44I started my career in front of the camera.
05:47So I still remain rooted somewhere in that.
05:52I didn't become an actor seeking the glamour.
05:56I became an actor seeking to be part of the filmmaking process.
06:01I still consider myself, you know, as part of a larger process of filmmaking.
06:08So I will be equally happy behind the camera as I am in front as long as I am working towards
06:15making the film.
06:18So yeah, no genre preferences.
06:21But I appreciate good writing.
06:23I appreciate innovative ways of telling the story through the medium.
06:29Okay, and like if we talk about films, is it just for the craftsmanship that you sort of
06:38like do it because you enjoy it?
06:41Or is there any sort of like, let's say, Kassafik experience that you get out of it?
06:48Well, filmmaking, I'm attracted to filmmaking and music primarily because, you know, filmmaking
06:55is a craft which attracts so many different art forms and crafts from painting to music to
07:03dancing to painting to writing.
07:09So because so many arts meet here, arts and sciences, you know, because a good chunk of
07:17filmmaking is science, it's physics, and I have that affinity towards science still, I still
07:25remain an ardent student of science.
07:27I studied science till grade 12 and still now, you know, science remains my hobby, you can say.
07:32Oh, okay.
07:33So filmmaking is one place where all my passions meet.
07:38I second that I totally agree.
07:40So I think that's why filmmaking, but yes, that thing that you said, is it a cathartic experience?
07:46It's true.
07:47I think that is also true that at its core, because I think an artist seeks that when you
07:54if you're attracted to the arts, but who knows, maybe even sciences, I think you seek that catharsis
08:00of, you know, of your relationship with the larger universe.
08:06Yeah.
08:07Yeah.
08:08Yeah.
08:09Okay.
08:10But you're both come from very different backgrounds in a way, right?
08:12Like you, you, you, you've lived all over the country and then, not all over the country,
08:25but North India.
08:26North India.
08:27We don't have quite a few things in common.
08:28Yeah.
08:29Like what?
08:30Well, like he, his parents are, have been government servants.
08:39My parents have been government servants.
08:40Of course, he's much younger than me.
08:42Yeah.
08:43That is one difference for sure.
08:44Slightly.
08:45Yeah.
08:46But I, I, I see, I tend to see a lot of things in common between us.
08:48I think that's why we get along also.
08:49Yeah.
08:50At least on camera we get in.
08:51Okay.
08:53So if I, I assure you that you give them the two.
08:56Of course, your of-screen bonding will also get a lot of.
08:58So if I tell you, then you give them the two.
09:00And then I'll give them the two.
09:01Yes.
09:02So if I tell you, then I'll give them the two.
09:03Like what if everybody knew about them and give them the two of them.
09:06I would also say that you tell me something about him that not everybody knows and you tell me something about him.
09:14There are a lot of things about him that everyone knows.
09:16Yes, I know.
09:18My life is an open book.
09:20I like him too.
09:22I like him too.
09:24So he's like that one of those kind of people.
09:26Yeah, I like him.
09:28On the card.
09:30What about him?
09:32I think he's very kind.
09:34Kind and caring.
09:36I don't know if people know this about him.
09:38I don't think everybody knows this about him.
09:40Only people who interacted with him would know this.
09:42He's a genuinely gentle, kind, caring person.
09:48Maybe that's why he's attracted to the, you know, the much more angry romance type, you know, intense thing.
09:58I think that's why he's attracted because opposites attract, they say.
10:01But he's a really gentle, kind and caring person.
10:03And I really appreciate that about him.
10:05That's very nice.
10:06Actually, I've seen this too.
10:07I've seen this too.
10:08I've done it.
10:09You asked me if you want coffee.
10:11I want coffee.
10:12I want coffee.
10:13I want coffee.
10:14Yes.
10:15That's a very nice way to have.
10:17This is polite.
10:18This is polite.
10:19This is your order.
10:21Right?
10:22I'm giving a phone.
10:23I'm giving a phone.
10:24I'm giving a phone.
10:25I'm giving a phone.
10:26If someone's sitting in the room, you should tell me.
10:30Not everybody does it.
10:31Not everybody does it.
10:32You do it.
10:33I tend to.
10:34I mean, it depends.
10:35If I like the person.
10:36If I want to get out of there, then probably not.
10:38Okay.
10:39Okay.
10:40So, do you know off-screen something madness?
10:42Like, please.
10:43Why did you laugh?
10:44Off-screen?
10:45Madness is madness.
10:46Madness is madness.
10:47I can tell you.
10:48On-screen is madness.
10:49Off-screen is also madness.
10:50What do you know?
10:51Just tell me.
10:52No.
10:53You do the laugh.
10:54Even the shoot.
10:55Because there are so many funny people converging on one's idea.
10:58Right.
10:59Starting from our director.
11:00Varan Baba.
11:01Hilarious.
11:02Yes.
11:03It's just a hilarious human being in general.
11:04Yeah.
11:05Then you look at the people.
11:06Manu Rishi Chadda.
11:07Guru Shah Kapoor.
11:09What minds they had.
11:10Sikandar.
11:11Sikandar.
11:12Yeah.
11:13Sudesh Lairi Ji.
11:14Sudesh Lairi Ji.
11:16Yes.
11:17So, all these people are like so funny.
11:20And just to have everyone on set was always like a right.
11:23But, someone tell me a moment that had you all in rights.
11:27I think that Ramila is one of them.
11:30I think even more than that the song.
11:33The make-up song.
11:34Oh, the make-up song.
11:35In this mix.
11:36In this mix.
11:37A very good song.
11:38Yeah.
11:39So, already we were having so much fun.
11:42And suddenly you know.
11:43You get a background music of a really good peppy song.
11:46So, happiness was like.
11:48You say you know.
11:49Siddha.
11:50Multiply.
11:51But Ramila tell me one thing.
11:53Do you really enjoy doing these slice of life films.
11:58Comedy films and everything.
12:00Siddha.
12:01I already told you.
12:02I don't look at it like that.
12:03I don't look at it according to the genre at all.
12:06But you know.
12:07I personally.
12:08If I can intervene here.
12:09And I can tell you.
12:11I am telling you.
12:12My personal experience.
12:13I am telling you.
12:14My favorite film.
12:18Okay.
12:19One of the most favorite films.
12:21Is Sing is King.
12:22Okay.
12:23And.
12:24There is Welcome.
12:25There is Sing is King.
12:26And.
12:27These are the films.
12:28I tend to go back to.
12:29Whenever like.
12:30I want to like.
12:31You know.
12:32Watch something.
12:33Light and funny.
12:34No brainer.
12:35And it gives me.
12:36Immense happiness.
12:37Okay.
12:38Not for that matter.
12:40So.
12:41This is why.
12:42I was asking you.
12:43That.
12:44When you watch these films.
12:46As an audience.
12:47As an actor.
12:49As an audience.
12:51You shine in those roles.
12:53I feel.
12:54Personally.
12:55I mean.
12:56It was great.
12:57It was great.
12:58It was great.
12:59It was great.
13:00It was great.
13:01Even in those films.
13:02I mean.
13:03I mean.
13:04You are a different person.
13:06So.
13:07In this one.
13:08It was so fun.
13:09It was so fun.
13:10It was so fun.
13:11But definitely.
13:12As actors.
13:13We have observed.
13:14When we are off camera.
13:15And then.
13:16This man has a switch.
13:17Where it.
13:18Where it just.
13:19He pushes that.
13:20And then.
13:21It transforms into another.
13:22Possibility.
13:23I have seen it.
13:24Happening within seconds.
13:25But I think.
13:26That's also the.
13:27The homework and preparation.
13:29That one comes with.
13:30And the experience.
13:31That one comes with.
13:32I mean.
13:33You know.
13:34That's what you do.
13:35So.
13:36When you are on set.
13:37You are living.
13:38It's a very.
13:39Science fiction.
13:40You are actually living.
13:41In two worlds.
13:42When you are on shoot.
13:43One is the.
13:44Real world.
13:45And the other is.
13:46The script.
13:47Correct.
13:48Haan.
13:49And.
13:50When you are on camera.
13:52It's like a switch over.
13:53When you go from one world.
13:54To the other world.
13:56Stranger things type.
13:57You know.
13:58So.
13:59That.
14:00That is.
14:01I mean.
14:02That is part of the.
14:03Process of acting.
14:04Hmm.
14:05But.
14:06I.
14:07I mean.
14:08You know.
14:09As far as your question is concerned.
14:10There is.
14:11A particular thing.
14:12Which we are hitting at.
14:13Which is common.
14:14Through my career.
14:15Which is.
14:16The middle ground.
14:17Yes.
14:18Mainstream.
14:19Formulaic films.
14:20Hmm.
14:21You know.
14:22Where.
14:23You break into song and dance.
14:24Every.
14:25For everything.
14:26Although in this.
14:27Film there are.
14:28But it's in a.
14:29It.
14:30It.
14:31It.
14:32It.
14:33It.
14:34For the story.
14:35The narrative of the story.
14:36Hmm.
14:37In the mainstream films.
14:38Have been notorious for.
14:39Dropping songs.
14:40At.
14:41Odd occasions.
14:42And song and dance.
14:43Correct.
14:44That was not what was attracted to me.
14:45Hmm.
14:46Neither was the very dry.
14:47Which was.
14:48You know.
14:49Which is.
14:50About.
14:51Social issues.
14:52And.
14:53You know.
14:54The.
14:55All.
14:56Everything that's wrong.
14:57With life.
14:58Basically.
14:59So.
15:00Somewhere in the middle.
15:01Of that.
15:02Is.
15:03Where I have always.
15:04Endeavored.
15:05To remain.
15:06For no reason.
15:07So.
15:08That's some kind of abstract.
15:09Yeah.
15:10Which I.
15:11So the middle.
15:12Middle part.
15:13Has always been.
15:14Attractive to me.
15:15Okay.
15:16Now talking.
15:17And now we.
15:18Rewind back a little bit.
15:19Into your careers.
15:20Okay.
15:21Um.
15:22I.
15:23Actually.
15:24Saw you.
15:25In.
15:26Tiger.
15:27Also.
15:28In the tiger.
15:29Um.
15:30That was also very good.
15:31I saw you in.
15:32Kattro ke Khiladi.
15:33Also.
15:34And.
15:35A lot.
15:36A couple of other.
15:37Um.
15:38Work.
15:39Um.
15:40This one.
15:41Sacred games.
15:42Toh.
15:43Toh.
15:44Woh.
15:45Toh.
15:46Toh.
15:47What was the mind behind choosing those projects.
15:49What was this thing.
15:51That I mean.
15:52Have to do this.
15:53Or like.
15:54You know.
15:55No.
15:56Shehza.
15:57These are.
15:58I mean.
15:59It's not always you choosing the projects.
16:00It's also the case of the projects choosing you.
16:01Like.
16:02Projects like.
16:03Sacred games.
16:04And Sing is king.
16:05You know.
16:06These are not projects which I chose.
16:07Chose.
16:08These are projects which chose me.
16:09Because these projects are much bigger than me.
16:11Sing is king is not about.
16:13Me.
16:14Sing is king is about.
16:15About Anis Basmi.
16:16It's about Akshay Kumar.
16:17It's about Katrina Kaib.
16:18It's about Om Puli.
16:19It's about.
16:20Manoj Baba.
16:21It's about.
16:22The entire stellar cast.
16:23It's about everyone.
16:24Yeah.
16:25So.
16:26I'm saying that.
16:27The.
16:28And sacred games.
16:29Sacred games season 1.
16:30Was already a huge success.
16:31Yes.
16:32So when I got offered that part.
16:33I was very grateful for it.
16:34It's not about me choosing a part.
16:36It's about how I got lucky with these parts.
16:39Okay.
16:40And I hope to continue to get lucky like this.
16:43At least a few times a year.
16:45And that's why I keep.
16:46You know.
16:47That's why you keep hearing me whining all the time.
16:48That I.
16:49You know.
16:50I want more work.
16:51I want more.
16:52Because I want to be part of.
16:53Such.
16:54You know.
16:55Good and.
16:56Good projects which have challenging work.
16:57You're one of the very few actors who actually.
16:59Like.
17:00Openly says it.
17:01I want more work.
17:02I want more work.
17:03True.
17:04Also because my root sign.
17:05Television.
17:06Shiza.
17:07And.
17:08What television does to you.
17:09Channel V.
17:10Even before Channel V.
17:11I was.
17:12Still doing more.
17:13Other television work.
17:14So Channel V.
17:15Was not my first job.
17:16Behind the camera.
17:17So the point with television.
17:18Isn't it.
17:19Makes you bit of a workaholic.
17:20Okay.
17:21Now.
17:22Even now.
17:23What happens is.
17:24If I'm not.
17:25Working for.
17:26A week or two weeks.
17:27Say more than two weeks.
17:28Now.
17:29I start getting jitters.
17:30Okay.
17:31Why am I not working.
17:32And.
17:33So that could.
17:34That's one more reason.
17:35Okay.
17:36And again.
17:37Like I said.
17:38You know.
17:39I don't have the conventional journey.
17:40Of an actor.
17:41Who wanted to be a star.
17:42And.
17:43You know.
17:44Wanted to.
17:45Sing songs.
17:46Dance.
17:47And.
17:48You know.
17:49Fight.
17:50And.
17:51My.
17:52Acting career.
17:53Is a.
17:54You can say.
17:55Growth.
17:56From behind the camera.
17:57To front.
17:58It's like a.
17:59It's like a.
18:00Worthy growth.
18:01Which came from behind the camera.
18:02And came in front.
18:03In front of the camera.
18:04Yeah.
18:05So.
18:06My journey is a little different.
18:07From most actors.
18:08Okay.
18:09And that's why.
18:10Maybe.
18:11You know.
18:12My aspirations are.
18:13Different.
18:14Yeah.
18:15What about you.
18:16The work that I am doing.
18:17If you are talking about.
18:18Acting.
18:19Then definitely.
18:20Yes.
18:21I want to be a workaholic.
18:22All the time.
18:23Because I love.
18:24What I am.
18:25You are also very shocked.
18:26Yes.
18:27Now.
18:28What is that?
18:29Because.
18:30You say.
18:31Gali.
18:32Gali.
18:33Gali.
18:34I was like.
18:35What?
18:36You are very shocked.
18:37I am very.
18:38I am very.
18:39I am very.
18:40I am very.
18:41I am very.
18:42I am very.
18:43I am very.
18:44I am very shocked.
18:45I am very shocked.
18:46I am very shocked.
18:47I am very shocked.
18:48Yes.
18:49Exactly.
18:50In the creative process.
18:51The more I work.
18:53The more.
18:54The more.
18:55I want.
18:56Because.
18:57I am very shocked.
18:58I am very shocked.
18:59You will never hear me.
19:00Saying.
19:01Today.
19:02I am very shocked.
19:03Today.
19:04I am very shocked.
19:05Today.
19:06I can never do that.
19:07Try a daily soap drop.
19:08You will change your approach.
19:09I have not done it.
19:10I have not done it.
19:11I have not done it.
19:12But.
19:13Films.
19:14Or.
19:15Whatever you have done it.
19:16Whatever you have done it.
19:18And everything.
19:19Is the only thing.
19:20Are you saying.
19:21That.
19:22There has never been a day.
19:23Where you have felt like.
19:24I have outdid myself.
19:25What.
19:26Gone.
19:27Just.
19:28Back up.
19:29Not done it.
19:30Never.
19:31Never.
19:32Never.
19:33Never.
19:34Never.
19:35Never.
19:36Never.
19:37Never.
19:38Never.
19:39Never.
19:40Never.
19:41Never.
19:42Never.
19:43Never.
19:44Never.
19:45Never.
19:46Never.
19:47Never.
19:48sometimes you know some producers or some sometimes it happens better I mean when it
19:55happens sometimes it's easier to deal with but when you're stuck with a producer who thinks that
19:59working their actors 16 hours a day is no big deal then it becomes a problem yes because if
20:06you're if you're physically tired mentally tired emotionally tired you're and you're not giving
20:12your best then it's not what I am there to do you know I am there to put my best on camera
20:17because I like I said because I've grown from behind the camera I believe pain is temporary film is
20:24forever yes yes yes so I don't want to come in front when I am not giving my best okay
20:31I mean like in this situation yes sometimes I mean like if someone's doing a scene and I'm
20:36scared and they're getting scared and they're getting scared and they're getting scared and they're getting scared and there's no safety precaution
20:42so then one gets slightly annoyed that you correct it and then start again
20:46rather than just going at it again and again so I think it's a little bit of an annoyance but then when you see it on film
20:53see it on film and then you're like you know it's a work of flavor and love yeah but
20:59do you see it on film in your favorite film or category what is your favorite film or category?
21:03what is your favorite film? I don't know I look a lot a lot
21:05yeah so what is it all the best?
21:06again sorry but no genre like this no genre as in there must be like I said that if I feel low or something I go back to that one film that I watch oh like repeat value films?
21:18pol from rare? so many i have so many it's so many so many so mean there are so many
21:20there are so many so many so many there are so many so many there are so many there is Chu
21:30my own Facebook? so many looking indie films calledAB
21:33so many films of your fantasy that product is called Singing in the Rain
21:38There are many films like this which if they are on, I can continue from right there.
21:45What about you?
21:46Like two-three names for you, Khosla, Khosla and Andaz Hapna-Apna-Haiye,
21:51then our cult status is different by chance.
21:55Oh, I love love by chance.
21:57I have to mute my picture by watching me.
21:59Why?
22:00I don't know all the dialogue.
22:02I can speak all the dialogue in that tone.
22:07I remember so much.
22:09One of the films.
22:10Just Amarakpar, Anthony Borek transfer.
22:14These are all films that I can just watch whenever they are on.
22:17Okay.
22:18I have one of my films that I can mute and show you.
22:22Om Shanti.
22:23I love Om Shanti.
22:25I'm also by the way.
22:26But one of my films that I really like,
22:28is that many people don't know whether it is or not.
22:31It's this film called One and One Two.
22:33Imran Khan and Karina Kapoor.
22:36In 2012.
22:38And I have seen something 70-80 times.
22:40So, I make all the dialogues.
22:42Like, you can see that mute with me.
22:45Done.
22:46Done.
22:47This exercise will be a problem.
22:49No, but anyway, coming back.
22:52So, how was your childhood like?
22:55Like you said, you were like, you know,
22:58a son of an IPS officer and everything.
23:01You kept moving.
23:02You know, stayed in the north mostly and everything.
23:04So, how was that?
23:05I had a very, I had a loving childhood definitely.
23:10I had a very, very calm childhood.
23:14But I also had a very lonely childhood.
23:17Okay.
23:18Are you single?
23:19I had a single child both my parents were working.
23:20Oh, high five.
23:21You're also single child?
23:22Yes.
23:23You're also single child.
23:24Yes.
23:25So, I have always, I have always, and I think that is in fact helped me build this weird sort
23:39of imagination, which is so real, which helps me now in my work.
23:44Because I spent so much time with myself, I would create characters.
23:51I would create stories.
23:52I would create situations and then just keep myself entertained through anything, basically.
23:58So, I think.
23:59Getting into acting tough, breaking into this industry.
24:02Yes.
24:03Of course.
24:04Of course.
24:05It's one of the toughest things on planet earth, I feel.
24:08I mean, so many people come to Mumbai every day to be actors.
24:12Yeah.
24:13We go to Varsova.
24:14You see.
24:15Thousands of people come every day.
24:16Every single day.
24:17So, I mean, you know, I often get asked, Oh, do you feel, you know, that you have done
24:24well or, you know, deserve more or, and I mean, it's good in a way that, okay, people
24:33feel that I should, I should be, that I'm deserving.
24:37That's the good part.
24:38But, you know, I often, I like, I saw one interview with Akshay Khanna once and he was
24:43saying, you know, somebody asked him about stardom and all.
24:47He said, bro, there are only 10 people who, in the top, who work.
24:53And just because I'm not number one, I mean, just because, you know, if you're in business,
24:57you're not going to say, Oh, are you Ambani or are you Adani or Tata or Birla?
25:02You don't say that.
25:03Yeah.
25:04So why do you ask actors, how do you feel not being Shah Rukh Khan?
25:09I mean, come on, you know, how do you feel not being Shah Rukh Khan?
25:12So I'm saying you can't, you have to remember the harsh reality of this business is that thousands
25:18of people come into this city every day to be actors.
25:22And I, here I am with 25 years of acting career.
25:27So I'm blessed.
25:28Yeah.
25:29Yeah.
25:30Of course.
25:31Okay.
25:32And I'm blessed to be sitting here with him and acting with him.
25:35Yeah.
25:36I'm blessed to be sitting with him and acting with him.
25:38Oh, wow.
25:39Brotherhood.
25:40Yeah.
25:41So I have very interesting game for both of y'all.
25:44First, who wants you go first?
25:46He.
25:47Him, him, he.
25:48You go first.
25:49Okay.
25:50So your game is called Harsh Reality.
25:54Ooh.
25:55Harsh Reality.
25:56Because your name is Harsh.
25:57Okay.
25:58Oh, really?
25:59Okay.
26:00Okay.
26:01Thanks.
26:02Okay.
26:03A guilty pleasure film you'll never admit to loving.
26:08What name?
26:09I'll give you both.
26:10No.
26:11Gunda?
26:12Gunda.
26:13Oh, that gulla dialogue.
26:15Oh, I love that film too.
26:17Yes.
26:18Okay.
26:19One actor who you think is unnecessarily over-hyped.
26:21One actor who I think is unnecessarily over-hyped.
26:23One actor who I think is unnecessarily over-hyped.
26:25Yes.
26:26That's my name.
26:27I mean, it's all right.
26:28No, but.
26:29They say they're underrated, underutilized.
26:32Yeah.
26:33I always say that I always say that better underrated than overrated.
26:35Yeah.
26:36Yeah.
26:37But then.
26:38What's your name?
26:39Why are you scared?
26:40Just think about it.
26:41I mean, I don't know how many people are.
26:42I don't know how many people are.
26:43I don't know how many people are overrated.
26:44Who is rated?
26:45You tell me.
26:46I don't know.
26:47I don't know.
26:48I don't know.
26:49I don't know.
26:50I'll come back to it.
26:52Okay.
26:53We'll come back to this.
26:54Okay.
26:55What's the most impulsive purchase?
26:57What's the most expensive sneaker you own then?
27:10Lohansiaga.
27:11Lohansiaga?
27:12Lohansiaga is like, but from Lohanaga.
27:18I don't know which shoes are more expensive, but I believe in the design and not the brand
27:26design.
27:27Lohanaga.
27:28Lohanaga.
27:29Lohanaga.
27:30Okay.
27:31Okay.
27:32One director.
27:33You give your left arm to work with.
27:47Can you lay?
27:49No.
27:50Okay.
27:51I have this theory.
27:53In fact, I want to talk about this one director who I really like and who I feel that should
27:59make a film because he has not made a film in many years.
28:01His name is Shimidami.
28:02I think he should come back and make a film wherever he is.
28:06And I would definitely do whatever it takes to work with him.
28:11Okay.
28:12In your circle, fan circle, who gives the best dating advice?
28:17Dating advice nobody gives.
28:19Nobody gives.
28:20Nobody gives dating advice.
28:21Okay.
28:22Um, what's your go-to song?
28:26If you want to cheer yourself up.
28:30Any, like, it depends.
28:34I mean, these days it's makeup.
28:36These days it's definitely makeup.
28:38Okay.
28:39Or Chankila.
28:40Both of them.
28:41I think I have.
28:42Yeah, Chankila.
28:43You take Chankila.
28:44I'll dig makeup.
28:45Done.
28:46Okay.
28:47The most overrated concept out of these.
28:49What do you think?
28:50Method acting stardom or chemistry tests?
28:53I don't know method acting.
28:55What is chemistry test?
28:57Sorry.
28:58Um, when you test an actor and a prospective actor.
29:01Oh, okay.
29:02Do you have chemistry or not?
29:03Okay.
29:04So how do you test it?
29:05I don't know.
29:06But before the film is signed, you test, right?
29:09I don't know.
29:10I don't know.
29:11I've never heard of it.
29:12I've never done chemistry.
29:13Okay.
29:14Okay.
29:15I don't know method acting.
29:17Okay.
29:18I think academic questions you should ask people who are maybe, you know, academically deeper
29:26because.
29:27Okay.
29:28Who's the most dramatic person in your life?
29:30The most dramatic person in my life?
29:32Me.
29:33You?
29:34I'm very dramatic.
29:35Okay.
29:36I'm very, very dramatic.
29:37I think that.
29:38No, but just for effect.
29:39Okay.
29:40Not, not genuinely dramatic.
29:42But for effect, I like being dramatic.
29:44Okay.
29:45Um, anything said about you that made you laugh out loud?
29:49Anything that's been said about me?
29:51That's been said about you that made you laugh out loud?
29:53That I'm.
29:54That I'm, that I'm some sort of, uh, that I'm some sort of brat that's been handled everything
30:01on a flat earth.
30:02Oh.
30:03Yeah.
30:04So that's, that I find funny because I'm like, okay.
30:07What's the most harsh thing someone said to you that you now find funny?
30:19harsh thing. The name of this game that you just
30:23put. I think that's... Excuse me.
30:26You think that was harsh? No, no, it's adorable.
30:28It's really, really nice. It's very funny.
30:30But, no, so the question is what? What is the most
30:33harsh thing that
30:35somebody said to you that you find
30:38funny? That I can't become an actor.
30:41Okay. And now
30:42you're going to spend the time.
30:44Because now you're going to be there.
30:46Probably. Yeah.
30:48Okay. Cool.
30:50Now to Ranveer.
30:52So, now you're going to be the name of the game.
30:54Run real.
30:56Because my name is Ranveer. And you have to be real
30:58with me. I'm very excited to know
31:00what this will be. Can I also
31:03answer a few on his behalf? Yeah, of course.
31:04No, that's not fair. I didn't answer on his behalf.
31:07You did.
31:09That was helping him.
31:12Yeah.
31:13You can help him.
31:15Fine.
31:15What's the most
31:18underrated film that you've done
31:21that you think
31:22deserved more love?
31:29Chani Jok to China.
31:31Chani Jok to China?
31:35Probably Fat Soap.
31:36Fat Soap. Oh, I love that film though.
31:38I worked really hard for that
31:39and it didn't really get any attention.
31:41No, I really liked that film though.
31:45Have you ever taken a project purely for money
31:48or even if when your gut said no?
31:53Purely for money, yes.
31:55But if my gut said no, no.
31:56That I've never done.
31:57Okay.
31:58Okay.
31:58Okay.
31:58I don't want to name them because
32:04Big Boss.
32:07But that's not a film.
32:08So, I told you that I had to spend money on Big Boss.
32:12Okay.
32:12I told you.
32:13What else?
32:14I did in the next boss for Big Boss.
32:16Why did you really do Big Boss?
32:18For visibility, fun or survival?
32:21Fun and survival.
32:22Not visibility.
32:23Not visibility.
32:24I don't seek visibility.
32:25I want to be known only for my work.
32:26Okay.
32:27Acting and films.
32:28Okay.
32:29And music.
32:30Okay.
32:31What's one role that you were offered
32:33and now regret turning it down?
32:38No question.
32:39I was offered but regret turning it down.
32:40Hmm.
32:42Oh.
32:46I can't think of particulars right now
32:49but they have been a couple.
32:50Okay.
32:50To be honest.
32:51Okay.
32:52One director who you would say yes to
32:55in a heartbeat
32:56and one director you would say no to
32:58even if they offered you
32:59the most amazing lead.
33:03See, the yes list I can give you
33:06but the no I don't think is polite.
33:09Okay.
33:09The yes of course at the top of that list
33:11is Rajat.
33:12Then no.
33:13Abhishek Chaube.
33:14Hmm.
33:16Neelamadha Pandha.
33:21Saurabh Shukla.
33:22Paranbha.
33:24Paran.
33:24I mean yeah.
33:25Paran also.
33:27I'm going into
33:28in the line of
33:29cinematography.
33:30So there are quite a few
33:31directors who
33:33I have worked with
33:34and I would love to work again.
33:36Drop of a hat.
33:37Hmm.
33:39But who I would not work with
33:40I mean
33:41nam ne looonga
33:42but I can tell you
33:43most of them will be
33:44from the either
33:45from the complete
33:46mainstream formula films
33:47or from the
33:48complete other side
33:51of the art
33:52you know.
33:53Artsy indeed.
33:55Artsy and
33:55social
33:56social issues.
33:58Social cause.
33:58Okay.
33:59Got it.
34:00Got it.
34:00Who are your friends
34:03from early years
34:04in the industry
34:05and are you still
34:06in touch with them?
34:07Early years of my career?
34:09Hmm.
34:09So many.
34:10In fact I am
34:11still part of
34:12we still are in touch
34:13all right from my
34:14first
34:15job in this business
34:17which was
34:17behind the camera
34:18and TV
34:18I used to work
34:20for this
34:20production house
34:21called Plus Channel.
34:22I am still
34:23in touch with them
34:24we still meet up
34:26same with my
34:28colleagues from Channel B
34:29we are still in touch
34:30we still meet up
34:31quite often.
34:33Actors
34:34Do you have any friends
34:35in the actors?
34:35Bine Pathak
34:36Rajat Kapoor
34:37they are all actors
34:38sort of
34:40I have quite a few
34:41S&D
34:42Everyone.
34:43Okay.
34:44Which actor
34:45today reminds you
34:46of your younger selves?
34:47Of my younger self?
34:49Hmm.
34:57I'll have to think
34:57about this
34:58I like I said
35:00because you know
35:00my career is very
35:01weird
35:02it's like a
35:03it's like a
35:04benign tumor
35:05you know
35:05it grew from
35:06behind the camera
35:07in front
35:07so there are
35:09I don't think
35:10mostly actors
35:12come wanting
35:13to be actors
35:13go through
35:14that journey
35:15and you know
35:16and I can't
35:20I can't
35:21leave out
35:22that part
35:22of my
35:23life
35:24it really
35:24is part
35:25of who I am
35:26professionally
35:27and personally
35:28okay
35:29what's the most
35:30brutally honest
35:31thing somebody
35:32in the industry
35:33has ever said
35:33to you
35:34that actually
35:35stayed with you
35:36brutally honest
35:38thing that
35:38they said to me
35:39which has stayed
35:40with you
35:40yeah
35:40that I
35:42I mean I don't
35:43know sometimes
35:43people think
35:44I have an
35:44attitude problem
35:45okay
35:46that I'm
35:49difficult
35:49and I
35:53find that
35:53a little
35:54unfair and
35:56overwhelming
35:57sometimes
35:57I actually
35:58agree
35:58because a lot
35:59of people
35:59you know
36:00because I
36:01don't know
36:01they hold
36:02grudges and
36:02they take
36:02them out
36:03talking to
36:03other people
36:04and all
36:04but my
36:05all I only
36:07know is that
36:07my intention
36:08to doing
36:10my best
36:10at the job
36:12that I am
36:12at
36:13sometimes
36:14some feathers
36:16may get ruffled
36:16but that is no
36:18reason to
36:18malign my
36:19reputation
36:20as being
36:20difficult
36:22I also feel
36:22that it's
36:23conceived as
36:25being difficult
36:26because of
36:27how particular
36:28he is
36:29okay
36:29which is
36:31really good
36:31like it's
36:32worth
36:32learning actually
36:34where you
36:35should set
36:35your priorities
36:36you should
36:36set boundaries
36:37you should
36:38set certain
36:40rules
36:40actionables
36:41and just
36:42go by that
36:43okay
36:44so it's
36:44just being
36:45called
36:45a proper
36:47person
36:47to be honest
36:48and you
36:49know
36:49honestly
36:50this business
36:50has a lot
36:51of politics
36:52you know
36:52I don't
36:53think
36:53once somebody
36:54asked me
36:54this when
36:55especially
36:55after this
36:56new government
36:56had come
36:57in
36:57they asked
36:58me about
36:59Bollywood
37:01politics
37:01I said
37:02that
37:02Bollywood
37:03has nothing
37:04to do
37:04with
37:05national
37:06politics
37:06Bollywood
37:06has its
37:07own
37:07politics
37:07it is
37:08its own
37:09ecosystem
37:09it has
37:09its own
37:10power
37:11games
37:11and it
37:12has its
37:12own
37:12politics
37:13you know
37:13because
37:14some
37:14said
37:14that
37:14there's
37:15more acting
37:17in politics
37:17in politics
37:18or else
37:19other politics
37:19in politics
37:20I saw that
37:22dream
37:22this is not
37:23happening
37:24in politics
37:25in acting
37:26or acting
37:27in filmmaking
37:28politics
37:29so you
37:30never know
37:31when somebody
37:31is trying to
37:32malign you
37:32in the business
37:33and talk
37:35shit
37:35and then it
37:35gets to you
37:36sometimes
37:36yeah
37:37of course
37:37it does
37:38human
37:39we are all
37:39humans
37:40at the end
37:40of the day
37:40between
37:41validation
37:42and paycheck
37:43which one
37:44still tempts
37:45you more
37:45between
37:50validation
37:51and
37:51paycheck
37:52I think
37:54this is also
37:55a function
37:55of time
37:56okay
37:56if I have
37:58money
37:59then I would
38:00work
38:00just to
38:01do good
38:02work
38:02okay
38:03but if I
38:04had no
38:04money
38:04then I
38:05would work
38:05for money
38:05okay
38:06there's no
38:07doubt about it
38:07okay
38:08has fatherhood
38:09softened
38:10or toughened
38:11you as a
38:11person
38:11I think
38:12has softened
38:13me immensely
38:14immensely
38:15it changed
38:17me as a
38:17human being
38:17and I
38:18think for
38:19the better
38:19one of the
38:20biggest things
38:21that fatherhood
38:24did to me
38:24is I
38:25started imagining
38:25everyone as
38:27how they were
38:27as a child
38:28it's one of the
38:29most beautiful
38:30things try it
38:31sometime
38:31take any
38:32human being
38:33around you
38:33and just
38:34imagine them
38:35as a child
38:35you know
38:38it's really
38:39a game changer
38:40in how you
38:40feel for people
38:42talk to them
38:44not like
38:45somebody's
38:46pissing you
38:47off
38:47imagine them
38:47as a child
38:48and say
38:48a good child
38:49this was not
38:50my point
38:50but you
38:51look at
38:53people in a
38:54different way
38:55once you've
38:56seen that
38:57okay
38:58so that was
38:59the end of
39:00land real
39:00and harsh
39:02reality
39:02you guys
39:03cased it
39:04but you
39:05did not
39:05answer my
39:06one question
39:06which one
39:08the director
39:08one
39:09the overrated
39:10one
39:10overrated
39:11actor
39:12who's the one
39:12overrated actor
39:14you think
39:15in today's age
39:15and time
39:16who's the one
39:17you have to
39:18get up
39:18you don't
39:19care
39:19like
39:20you
39:21give me some
39:21older
39:23no but
39:23who's the one
39:23rated
39:24I don't
39:25know
39:25many
39:25rated
39:26how many
39:27are
39:27in my mind
39:2710
39:29I don't know any choices, but I don't know any choices.
