Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad delivers a sharp critique of President Trump's recent demand for regaining control of Afghanistan's Bagram Air Base. Ahmad calls the demand posturing and highlights the stark contrast in US policy, pointing out the failure to stop the 'carnage' in Israel and Gaza. He suggests that if Trump truly seeks a Nobel Peace Prize, he should focus on achieving peace in West Asia instead of political theatrics.

00:00With deep respect to the American president, I must say, reluctantly, that he has no knowledge of the region, no knowledge of history or politics.
00:16He is an instinctive player, he is constantly posturing on the national stage, and he wants to show his own people, many of whom have never read a history or politics book in their life.
00:31What a great guy I am. Look at me and say, applaud all of you. He is, to my mind, a completely mindless individual who is incapable of any serious conversation on any serious issue that agitates our region.
00:50He has been making foolish statements with regard to occupying the Panama Canal, occupying Greenland, also making, these have been statements that have not shown him in a positive light.
01:04And indeed, many of their partners have been alarmed. Many of the policies that have emerged from Washington are part of this completely misdirected rhetoric, which has no basis in reality.
01:18Coming to Bagram, I have no understanding as to why suddenly he is talking about Afghanistan. He has not mentioned Afghanistan at all. He is the architect of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
01:32Towards the end of his presidency, he is the one who said that he wants to withdraw from Afghanistan and withdraw immediately. He is the one who put no conditions upon the withdrawal.
01:44He did not ask for any type of government in Kabul. He actually made the, he prepared the ground for his successor Biden to hand over Afghanistan to the Taliban.
01:56You remember how badly organized the departure was. For him to make this claim, which has absolutely no basis in law, no basis in politics, no basis in American, any American pronouncement in the past.
02:13And frankly, to my mind, no basis in any American interest that I can see. Nobody took seriously his remarks about the Panama Canal and Greenland and all that.
02:24This is a lot of posturing. This is to show that I count, that I'm important, that my arms can go very far.
02:32But look at the completely useless way the United States has managed the whole issue relating to Israel and Gaza.
02:40They should have stopped the carnage long ago. If the president wants the Nobel Peace Prize, he should be focusing on bringing peace to West Asia.
