00:00My name is Chazity Saunders, and I'm a plus-sized bottle, actress, and clothes, and I am so, so excited about this next meal.
00:11Are you guys ready for what's all the beautiful in Hollywood?
00:15Yeah.
00:16So this next conversation that I'm so excited about is going to be talking about the best picture of beauty represented in space,
00:24next Hollywood landscape, and what it means for the next generation of Hollywood hopefuls.
00:30I'm so excited about my panelists that are going to be joining me on Thursday as well.
00:34So please welcome to the stage, senior vice president of creative and serious business, okay?
00:41Corey Stemps and actor Arvon Alves.
00:49Please, hey, hey, hey, hey!
00:52You guys look great.
00:53Well, okay, let's get started, isn't it?
00:57So I know, first of all, this is about how the amazing Corey in our minds was coming from home.
01:05This is the meeting, we're told that you guys already know how we're coming today, right?
01:10Our flag is beautiful, and it's bold, and we're so excited to be here.
01:13So guys, let's just drop right into it.
01:16I'm going to turn it up to play this evening.
01:18So diversity and inclusion is probably good.
01:21We're going to be being entertainment at large.
01:23You know, it's not going on with us in the media, right?
01:27So in regards to this topic, what do you guys think?
01:30This is amazing if she stands about what's to come in the future.
01:34Because it's already changing, right?
01:36We're already getting part of the change.
01:37But what do you think, with what's happening, says about what's to come in our future and how we live?
01:42So, to let's just say, I know it's being used to say diversity and inclusion, right?
01:48But our diversity and inclusion is really all about love, right?
01:53And I want to make sure that when you're talking about diversity and inclusion, you're about
01:57and it's about the community, right?
02:01And that diversity and inclusion is really all about love.
02:04And, you know, you talk about diversity and inclusion, right?
02:08You know, it's because we think that's not great.
02:11You know, more than, you know, these are the same people that are going to focus for it.
02:19It's a little bit different.
02:20And it's a lot of, and so it's great.
02:23And so it's a lot of, and so it's a lot of, and so it's a lot of, and so it's a lot of
02:24things about letting come up next to where, and actually putting some attention to my mind
02:28and, and it's been so far, we'll say yes, that's great.
02:30But what's happening now, right, the key nuances and the, you know, range of black creators
02:37that are coming out from celebrities and influencers to just creatives, right?
02:42Um, where it's a most great place in the future where it's not going to be supposed to be
02:47more than a war, right?
02:48You don't necessarily necessarily see what someone else, right?
02:52But I want to make sure that even if it doesn't become a war, we're still not looking at it
02:57in a real way, right?
02:58I want to make sure that we're all on, we're forcing these companies that are not available,
03:09right?
03:09And so, you know, from 30 years, I want to make sure that we're all on this, because we're
03:14all the ones that are, you know, starting these trends and really, you know, being the
03:18fault leaders of all of these conversations.
03:20Absolutely, we're always the trendsetters, we've been the trends right in, right here
03:25against us, and so we love about us, and we're the only ones that actually put it out there
03:30first, and I love everything about the end, so thank you.
03:33Well, see, and I think for the longest time, you know, Sunnywood has seen us, and recognized
03:42us, and led us into some spaces, and now it's like, we're just going to include, like, in
03:49all of these spaces, but now what's most important is that black people are in those positions
03:57now, to bring more opportunity to tell more diverse stories.
04:01Absolutely.
04:02So, for the longest time, we said, like, white executives, white executives, and told the
04:08stories about black, you're a individual, and now we have black, executive professors,
04:13and we have black, we have black, we have black, we have black, we have black, we have
04:15the director.
04:16Absolutely.
04:17We're saying, like, no, we need these people that are really just representing these communities
04:20that need to come here and tell these stories.
04:22Yeah.
04:23Of course, it matters.
04:24Oh, it matters.
04:25It matters.
04:26It matters.
04:27It matters.
04:28Well, there is another one in the world, but I know what the most rich is, but I know
04:31the most rich is, but I know the most rich is rich.
04:34Yeah.
04:35Rich.
04:36Sure, that's rich.
04:37Um, Corey, so we all know that, you know, black people are not a modelist.
04:41It drives more black directors, like we're just talking about it for producers, and no
04:45one says if the culture requires any action for the masses that I guess.
04:49However, let's keep it real.
04:51Hollywood is still white dominant, okay?
04:55Okay, so as senior vice president of creator and business, how do you ensure that the main
05:01nuances between the white community is depicted in the work that you do in your creator strategy?
05:08I think the biggest, right, in this case, is very simple, right, but it's about being intentional,
05:13right?
05:13That's really what I put in, but it's all about being intentional, and that's what you see
05:18is this, like, a lot of, you know, there are a lot of new spaces, right, where you can
05:22put these, uh, reports of green, right, where we're highlighting what it means is that
05:28they don't really, they're not really intentional, and it's like, okay, this is a lot of different
05:32ones for this group, you know, for the only reason why she's just talking about the right
05:36to the right, you know, following right now, so let you go to a sale or something like that,
05:40it's like, you're just going to get it out, because you can tell, you know, for being
05:44to us, you've been to us, you've been to us, you've been to us, you've been to us, you've
05:45been to us, you've been to us, you know, we can make it so that we're not just checking
05:49the right to the right, you know, we're making sure that we're having people that speak
05:56to our vision, right, and make sure that we're covering the rest of the people that speak,
06:01right, the whole thing is making sure that, you know, it's not a special thing, right,
06:06also, you know, take credit to my team, you know, speaking for that people that, you know,
06:12you've been to us all, can we just stop for one second right there, because we're ever
06:16doing something so far, and all of us have so many people who support us, and they're
06:20with us at all times, so that means you've got an amazing team, but I actually just sell
06:24them for it, and it's just a little pretty, right, and it's, uh, it's a little more
06:29intense, and it's a little more intense, and it's a little more intense, and it's a little
06:31intense, and it's a little bit more intense, because I keep watching you get those things
06:34so, you know, calling, calling out a phrase, and you make sure that we put more of this
06:39in that opinion, and all that, and you make sure you cover that phrase in the wrong way,
06:43and so that's the biggest part I started to do.
06:46I mean, you guys have done such a great job with the Disney Festival, I mean, we're here
06:49at Disney Festival, you guys enjoying Disney Festival, I've had the most amazing time,
06:54especially now that we're coming back off of the pandemic, all of us are here, we're
06:58happy, we're healthy, we're celebrating each other, and Disney is a place, the love,
07:03that, and the magic, that, and the joy is the black joy for me, and I just love, love,
07:08love hearing that, I'm a true strategy to the team, I always look forward to all of
07:13the things that has been on, whether it's black women of Hollywood, or Tourism Fashion Week,
07:17or, you know, Hollywood shows, there's so many amazing contributions, and just exist,
07:22and all this keeps us in the know, you know what I mean, to keep us happy, and knowing that
07:28black people, we're idiots, you're the money method, so you don't care no matter where
07:32Oh, in this space, like, we're all welcome.
07:35Like, it doesn't matter what an exhibition outside of this, like, convention center or concert.
07:41Like, we are never feeling like we're all new ones.
07:46And that's the thing.
07:48There have been so many times that we walked into the spaces that were like, oh, oh, oh, like, for example, oh, oh, too many guys here, you know what I'm saying?
07:56But it's like, to come into a space where we are celebrating, where we are seeing.
08:00And we are all going to be in the spaces where we are celebrating events.
08:05No, for sure.
08:06In our mind, I want to say, actually, I'm going to ask you another question.
08:09How do you navigate an industry that has not always been inclusive or accepting of the intersectionality of black and queer?
08:18And how does it feel to be a part of a production and is challenging the traditional beauty standards here at Hollywood?
08:25I know.
08:26That's all I wanted to think about.
08:28And so, you know, it's interesting my career, because I've always felt that I needed to, you know, play in my career and answer my seven entries.
08:37I always felt that I needed to be a certain size before I've worked.
08:41Even TV and film, because I always had a few words in film, too.
08:45Yeah.
08:46And the list.
08:47Same.
08:47And the place has fun on that.
08:48So, I absolutely feel you on that.
08:51And so, it was one of those things where, until I just started living in my dreams, being comfortable with who I was.
08:59And I wasn't walking into a room apologizing for who I was.
09:12And when you walk into a room apologizing for you.
09:16I know, give it up.
09:17I don't think that's because you need to be father.
09:19It's absolutely.
09:20But when you walk into a room apologizing for you, authentically you, people sit up, they pay attention, and they see you, and they're like, all of this person needs to be seen.
09:32This person needs to be in this world.
09:34And I'm sure I do not.
09:36You know what I'm saying?
09:37It's not jumping in.
09:38You have to work on the camera.
09:39You have to be betrayed.
09:41You have to practice.
09:42You have to do what you do.
09:43And you have to be ready for preparation needs.
09:46And so, it was like, until I was like, well, I started to live in my dreams and I started to, you know, do working together for some time to the side, like, you know, onto yourself, like, you know, watch it and watch it and watch it, okay?
10:05And, um, but, getting to portray these characters, it's not working.
10:11Because now it's, you're not, like, afraid to, to, to hear certain things or, like, certain ways and spaces, but getting to tell me, as far as these fear that they have, they're being more or just, like, boldly than getting to tell me.
10:27So, now, you know, we're getting to a space in Hollywood where they're not just looking at us to, to play the third queen or to, to, to, like, you know, the side thing with, uh, potential fights, you know, the names of us, right?
10:44They're seeing us.
10:45So, they're not just being, you know, the best one or the funny one or whatever they want to say about us when they're, you know, having these people all day, you can be this one of them, but you can't be the lead, or you can't be the love interest in them anymore.
10:58Not anymore.
10:59Because there's all the time because they listen to me when I was talking to women when I came to loving my character.
11:05I told them I wanted a partner.
11:08I told them that I wanted my partner to be blessed.
11:11And they listened.
11:12And I think because...
11:13And being bold enough to love all the beautiful problems that you actually ask for what you want, I mean, it's scary.
11:21Because, you know, it's why I feel like we're taught that, like, we can be some amazing opportunities for her to sit there, to be real.
11:27Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
11:28And if there's only room for one thing, then it's not true, especially not when we're taking ownership and creating for ourselves.
11:36Yes, yes, yes, yes.
11:38And, like, it's a high-famous show production.
11:41Makeup wasn't great.
11:42Like, uh, it was just, you know, I was able to speak up.
11:47And I was able to get out of the makeup artist in Chicago.
11:50Like, her first, like, TV show.
11:51And so I was like, she doesn't care for TV together.
11:55And they listened to me.
11:56You know what I'm saying?
11:57And just when it came to the office, I'm more like, there's a scene in this season where my character is buying a business.
12:05And I said, okay, this is important.
12:08So a black queer person buying a business in New Orleans, like, if buying a black gay bar, you know what I'm saying?
12:15It's just, like, I wanted to make sure that my costume represented the culture.
12:19It was saying, like, I'm buying a slut.
12:21You know what I'm saying?
12:21You know what I'm saying?
12:22You know what I'm saying?
12:23It was just the most important thing.
12:24You know what I'm saying?
12:25You know what I'm saying?
12:26But, you know, and it was just so important that I was like, gee, this whole thing was, you know, it didn't happen.
12:36And so many other people not being playing for me.
12:39You know what I'm saying?
12:40Absolutely.
12:41Meaning, speaking of people playing for the way, we have so many amazing trainers that are doing that.
12:45Like, Vickie's a race of the world.
12:47I mean, Vickie's a race of fours.
12:50I mean, so many.
12:51And I know Vickie's a race of the way.
12:53Vickie has announced that she almost makes sure now that her staff is at least 60% of numbers.
12:59So I want to know, like, what are other ways you guys feel?
13:02And we can make sure that we're keeping the numbers very well going for you in this sense.
13:07You know, and being on a show, they just have numbers.
13:09And how do we keep it happening?
13:13And, you know, I wanted to make sure you're keeping, you know, everyone responsible for, you know,
13:20let's say it's nice that I did for the last two years when, you know,
13:24he shoots on the nose, or, you know, shoot up and down on the street,
13:28or, you know, a bad thing is about you, you know,
13:30when you're busy and you're busy and you're busy and I'm trying to stay attached to it, right?
13:34It's really just making it, you know, and then even stop it.
13:38I think those, those, like, the, like, what have I done with the world?
13:44It's kind of, like, in the fabric, I don't know, it's, like, the culture of the country,
13:47you know, and it's going to, like, hate to go back to, you know,
13:51and so it's there, it's going to stay over, it's going to stay over to, like,
13:56probably not getting anything here.
13:58So there's this question of, like, what happened?
14:00How do we miss it?
14:02You know?
14:03Absolutely.
14:04And I think so, as, like, we worked in those, you know, I can't do what they do.
14:08Nobody can put it.
14:09Say that.
14:10I just don't need anything, leave it out there.
14:12I don't need anything to do to the people.
14:13I don't want to do what you do.
14:15Well, we do.
14:16Nobody can put it on a flavor, launch it, a project, or whatever, like, we can.
14:21So it's just, like, when they see it in it, it's like, okay, the community's a class.
14:25And I know what I'm talking about.
14:27When I say that you need to do this, you need to bring this person,
14:30you need to make sure that there's somebody in an apartment that looks like me,
14:34you know what I'm saying?
14:36So, absolutely.
14:37So, let's check your back is what I'm saying, like, what a cultured, right?
14:42To make sure that there's a path to talk.
14:45We're on an apartment.
14:46We know black women who are over the stand-to-day for the fastest growing number of hot figures.
14:51So, give it a chance for yourself.
14:53For the whole thing.
14:53Yes.
14:54And I just love that he gives you a mayor of New Orleans.
14:57He says, about all of the properties that you're implementing,
15:00so that black businesses can actually paint a bank off of business business as well,
15:05Because for so many years, it wasn't being circulated here, so I'd love seeing how we're moving forward as a culture all together.
15:12And how many folks out there do we have that are inspiring to be in Hollywood or inspiring to be a creative?
15:19Do we have some?
15:20Yeah.
15:20I don't want to know about you guys if you could just give some advice to people that want to be sitting where you're sitting one day.
15:27Because first of all, congratulations to you both because this is major, but how can people out there that are inspiring to be in your seat reach those goals?
15:38Boldly.
15:41Okay.
15:42Let's go.
15:42It is not clear, you guys hear, but this is five streaming.
15:46There's so many people who are actually wanting to be pulled in Hollywood.
15:50I see some fans out there, and I just want you guys to give them some takeaway of how they can pursue the dream.
15:56And, you know, it's a textual idea.
15:59And I'm going to be 100 with you.
16:01There's got to be doubt in the dream setting.
16:03There's got to be fear in the dream setting.
16:05Like, I wrestled with that, even in my position.
16:09But, like, for some reason, I'm not telling God.
16:14You call yourself whatever you need to.
16:17But there is a vision, there's a plot place to be, and it's so much more important.
16:21Because sometimes I'm just, like, really not, like, I'm here dragging in the dirt, but you still want me to continue to do this, and God is like, yes.
16:29And I'm like, and say, in context, as people in my life, there's listening out to support me, my clients, who are amazing when they hear that I'm, like, my rocks.
16:38And it's just, like, surround yourself with people who don't think your vision is crazy, you know what I'm saying?
16:44There will be people that doubt you.
16:46There will be people that are naysayers.
16:48Like, don't give up because there's a vision in you when you feel like awesome as well.
16:54Like, just the fact that I can't keep up your spirits and put your, like, you know what I mean?
16:59Sometimes I'm being blind and it's just beautiful.
17:03Sometimes I'm just like, I have no idea how I'm feeling in the dark.
17:06My spirit is just like, well, the fact that you're the dinosaur, you're a reason.
17:11So I need to stay here, and I'll eventually find it, you know what I'm saying?
17:15And they'll find me, but it's just like, don't give up.
17:19I was about 39 years old, and I'm about to be 40, I'm still a man.
17:22And I'm so young, and you know, then you say I'm very young, and you know, I'm so young.
17:26And you say, well, you know, I think it's just a new way.
17:29I'll be giving out those days to get a recommender, but I think it's just a new thing, you know what I mean?
17:38And it just continues to form the present, you know what I mean?
17:42To be the smarts, to be the students, to agree, you know what I'm saying?
17:46I'm always learning.
17:48I'll always look forward to my next time, because I'm working, okay, like, I'm ready to learn something new to learn some of my students.
17:55So, very good.
17:56I'm going to admit it, great answer.
17:58I'm just saying that the biggest thing about making sure that, you know, if you're listening to this, but I'm going to find someone who's a career path, right?
18:08It's something that, you know, if you're talking about it, you know, and if you're talking about it, right?
18:13If you're talking about it, you know, and if you're talking about it, right?
18:15Tap into that, reach out to that, right?
18:18I don't like a career path, because that's just it.
18:21It's not difficult for them, right?
18:22It's not difficult for them for you, but it's just a point where you're talking about it.
18:26If you're talking about it, you're talking about it, right?
18:28I mean, it's up in separate places.
18:30So, yeah, you can take a community, you can use it as a program, but I don't think I do.
18:35I don't think that's what I'm saying, you know, that's what I'm meant to work that she looked into, right?
18:41But I didn't know.
18:42So, maybe it came into another line, but, you know, the question that had been sent me across the line, right?
18:49And again, it came back to that space that we were in, right?
18:51And that continues to be a good idea of that time, but they figured out why I'm in it, right?
18:56And what makes it for me?
18:57And I would love to do the two things because, like, eventually, you're having that awareness that it's a blueprint being made.
19:05Because, you know, that awareness may not look like someone else's, but you know that it's being made.
19:10And you probably said that, if you know what I'm saying, I remember in 2018, I put my top 2% back to each other whole time.
19:17And I don't know myself.
19:18And, you know, you had to think those needs to be, you know, you really have to be bold and you have to listen, be still.
19:27And that was something I was still, and I listened, and I was like, okay, I'm going to take this huge risk.
19:32I just want to step away from the fight, you know, from a dog.
19:36And I were in my little drag suitcase, and I was super down, so I don't know, like, you know, boys and I'm doing every competition that I could.
19:44And I made a name for myself in this scene, and it was just, like, and then from there, I was in my belt on, and then, like, after that year, I'm just, like, in the trenches, like, it's just like a fire, and it's just like a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, and it's just like, there was no whole realm bouldering for me.
19:59I had seen, like, the drag race for all those aren't seen, you know, like, some drag movies on TV, but I also had to realize, I was like, I'm seeing them my whole way, you know what I'm saying?
20:08But I love my kids here, and see, a little bit from here, a little bit from there, and, like, figure out what residency is for me, what business are, like, to yourself, like, to yourself, like, I love it.
20:19Well, you guys, I can literally sit up here and talk to these guys all day, every hour and hour, hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, so if you guys will let you guys go shortly, I just want you guys to say, keep it up to yourselves, okay?
20:33So, thank you guys so much for being here, and one more time for my families as well, glory sucks, and our lawn feels like so, so I'm really excited to be here.
20:45Thank you, they're so cool, it's totally beautiful in Hollywood, that's what we're doing here at Disney, so I can hope that you guys walk away being more bold from hearing from us today.
20:54I hope you guys have my heart, and I'm sure we go best and best of all.
