Serial killer Steve Wright has been handed a 40-year sentence for the murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall in Felixstowe, as well as nine years for the attempted kidnapping of Emily Doherty. Wright is already serving a whole-life sentence for the murder of five women in Ipswich in 2006. "You will die in prison", Mr Justice Bennathan says as he delivers the sentence. Report by Keechl. 00:00All the aggravating factors I have already listed would have led, under the old rules, to a minimum term slightly above 40 years.
00:10But given your late guilty plea, I deduct 1 20th, so 40 years is the term I will impose.
00:18Even if this was your only life sentence, given your obvious dangerousness and your age, it is extraordinarily unlikely you would ever be released.
00:30Given the sentence already imposed for your other dreadful crimes, it is well nigh certain you will die in prison.
00:37The sentences I impose are 1. For the attempted kidnap of Emily Doherty, 9 years imprisonment concurrent.
00:452. For the kidnap of Victoria Hall, 12 years imprisonment concurrent.
00:513. For the murder of Victoria Hall, I pass a sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum term of 40 years.
01:003. You can go now.
