01:29tell us a little bit
01:30more about yourself
01:32who is charm
01:33how does she find
01:35herself in this space
01:36right here today
01:37well diamond
01:38i am charm taylor
01:39i am a mother
01:41i am a musician
01:43songwriter
01:44artist
01:45i am the voice
01:48of queen essence
01:49who you've all
01:50been hearing today
01:51i'm a creative
01:53programmer
01:54an educator
01:55and most of all
01:57i love
01:58to see transformation
02:00take place
02:01it's a passion
02:02of mine
02:03and so over the years
02:04i've been a part
02:05of building
02:05educational institutions
02:07here based in new
02:08orleans
02:08always sort of
02:10at the
02:11groundbreaking
02:12or the entry point
02:13of building something new
02:15often giving birth
02:17to vision
02:18so i'm kind of
02:19i'm kind of
02:19the pollinator
02:20the incubator type
02:22where i'm like
02:22i see it
02:23i see this thing
02:24i believe in it
02:25with you
02:25let's build it
02:26so that
02:28that's me
02:29five months ago
02:31right on the side
02:32of this
02:33moriel
02:33convention center
02:35there was a different
02:36festival taking place
02:37it's a new orleans
02:38the new orleans
02:40based festival
02:41called luna fete
02:42and luna fete
02:43is the longest running
02:45projection mapping
02:46festival in the nation
02:48and i was performing
02:50my music from my album
02:51she is the future
02:52i was accompanied
02:54by
02:55a digital muralist
02:58named monica rose kelly
02:59who was casting
03:01all of the art
03:02and projecting it
03:02onto the walls
03:03funke
03:05i was spinning
03:06music
03:07and there was dancers
03:09and art
03:09and it was just that
03:10special new orleans thing
03:12and monica rose kelly
03:13said to me
03:14trump taylor
03:15this needs to be
03:16an nft
03:16and i said
03:19what is an nft
03:20and she said to me
03:24well
03:25it's something
03:27that you're already doing
03:30and what is that
03:32you're already creating
03:34with value
03:35and all of our assets
03:38all of our digital
03:39sort of
03:40you know
03:40content
03:41has value
03:42from start to finish
03:44so i was interested
03:45in the resurgence
03:47of value
03:48in art
03:48specifically
03:50as a collector
03:51of art
03:52as a creator
03:52of art
03:53and she onboarded me
03:55i set up my wallet
03:57i you know
03:59started to create
04:00and met
04:00my first nfts
04:01uh traveled to
04:03ethereum denver
04:04and in
04:05and uh installed
04:06in that space
04:07um an immersive
04:08arts experience
04:10featuring music
04:11and digital art
04:12and um
04:13uh i
04:15meditations
04:16and meditation
04:17yes that's actually
04:19yes
04:19so uh he
04:20it was
04:21it was
04:21the thought
04:22the thought was to make it
04:23a healing arts experience
04:24and so how can we
04:25immerse people
04:26in the thing
04:28that we're talking about
04:29instead of talking about it
04:30how can we
04:31have them do it
04:32with us
04:33right
04:33how can we
04:34in this moment
04:35how are we doing
04:36the future together
04:37right
04:37so um
04:39that was at ethereum denver
04:41and it's been a fast
04:43moving ship
04:44of creation
04:45and collaboration
04:46uh such an exciting
04:48new space
04:49um new to me
04:51um but
04:52there have been others
04:53who've been in the space
04:54for for longer
04:56um i won't say we're late
04:57i'll say we're right on time
04:58always on time
05:00always on time
05:02divine timing
05:02can we talk a little bit more
05:05about your journey
05:05and nfts
05:07i know
05:07being both black women
05:09in this space
05:10we know that there's not
05:12many of us
05:13and that comes with
05:14unique challenges
05:15but you were already
05:17a creator
05:17you were already
05:18you know
05:19very established
05:20in your craft
05:22and it was just
05:22this kind of task
05:24of taking that
05:25to the blockchain
05:26and immortalizing
05:28your creations
05:29what has that journey
05:30been like
05:31have there been
05:32any insights
05:33that you weren't expecting
05:34um is it
05:36everything that you
05:37thought it would be
05:38coming on to
05:39web 3
05:40and putting your work
05:41um on a totally
05:43new platform
05:43i will say
05:46that at first
05:47i've
05:49i was taken
05:50in by
05:51the comfort
05:52of knowing
05:53knowing that
05:54whatever it is
05:55it required
05:56creativity
05:56and imagination
05:57so those are
05:58my strong
05:59those like my
06:00that's my strong
06:00house
06:01and what i learned
06:03is that
06:04first of all
06:04we're already enough
06:05so we already
06:06have the art
06:07we already have
06:08the music
06:08we already have
06:09the talent
06:09we already have
06:10the ideas
06:11um but
06:12that this was
06:13an opportunity
06:13to learn
06:14and so
06:15what
06:16what was true
06:17for me
06:18is that
06:18web 3
06:19nfts
06:20blockchain tech
06:21is really
06:22about our
06:23our relationship
06:24to learning
06:25so what do we do
06:27when we have to
06:28learn a new app
06:28or a new feature
06:29or a new function
06:30if we
06:32personally
06:34feel like
06:35ah i would rather
06:36have a platform
06:37just do it for me
06:38then we're kind of
06:39passive
06:40right we become
06:41passive
06:41but if we
06:43tap into
06:44and i always say
06:45go in the direction
06:45of your excitement
06:46if we tap into
06:48that like
06:48oh i want to learn
06:49that i want to
06:49know how that
06:50works
06:50can you teach me
06:52how to do that
06:52right
06:53um those things
06:55really push you
06:56forward in this
06:57space
06:58learning pushes you
07:00forward very quickly
07:01in this space
07:02it's not
07:03it's a departure
07:04from you know
07:05the sort of
07:07traditional way
07:08of learning
07:08over the course
07:09of 10 years
07:10middle school
07:11high school
07:12college
07:12these things
07:13it's like
07:14right now
07:15happening
07:15changing
07:16right now
07:17how can you
07:18how can you
07:18get your wallet
07:19how can you
07:20um join
07:22the conversation
07:23how can you
07:24start to collect
07:25and and see
07:26some you know
07:26digital art galleries
07:27and see what's out
07:28there in terms of
07:29creation and what's
07:30happened
07:31and tap into
07:32that
07:32um those are all
07:34things that i think
07:35propel us forward
07:36very quickly
07:37so yeah
07:38yeah there's no
07:39short uh shortage
07:40of learning in this
07:41space
07:42things are evolving
07:43constantly as is
07:45the nature with
07:46emerging technology
07:47so there's that
07:49piece of being
07:50able to learn
07:50quick and take
07:52on new knowledge
07:53and new way
07:53of doing things
07:54and being immersed
07:55in that
07:55what else about
07:57the blockchain
07:57or nfts
07:59inspired you
08:00to i mean
08:01i would say
08:02you dived in
08:03i think you even
08:04started taking off
08:04some of your
08:05work on other
08:06platforms right
08:07why what
08:09what inspired you
08:10to go you know
08:11head first in
08:12so i approached
08:13it as a bit
08:15of a scientist
08:15like a social
08:16scientist
08:17as an artist
08:18scientist
08:18meaning when i
08:19think about the
08:20science of anything
08:21is that you have
08:22a prediction
08:22right and you
08:24you form a
08:25hypothesis right
08:26this is what we
08:27learn and then
08:27you test that
08:28hypothesis right
08:29you may apply it
08:30over a few
08:31different circumstances
08:31and then when you
08:32when you get the
08:33effect or the
08:34outcome that you're
08:35looking for you
08:36try to duplicate
08:37that in other
08:38use cases so
08:40the first thing i
08:41thought was
08:42well will people
08:44be interested in
08:45my art and my
08:46music to the
08:47value that i am
08:48interested in it
08:49will people want
08:51to support my
08:53ownership of my
08:54assets and
08:56instead of creating
08:58new content to
08:59test that theory i
09:00went to the content
09:01i already had on
09:02youtube and i
09:04could see that
09:04content over over
09:05the years oh i
09:06released this video
09:07four years ago and
09:09i remembered that
09:10experience and how
09:10beautiful it was to
09:12create right with
09:13the videographers and
09:14the as a creative
09:15director i remember
09:16remembering all of
09:17the art and the
09:18sisters who did the
09:18makeup and the
09:19cotton all of the
09:20investment that goes
09:21into those uh
09:23productions and so i
09:25said here's my here's
09:27my hypothesis i
09:29hypothesize that if i
09:30take this content off
09:32of youtube i add an
09:34element of rarity to
09:37my content exclusive it
09:40becomes it becomes rare
09:45right so i'm gonna take
09:47it off youtube and
09:49then i'm going to
09:50build community with
09:52people in this new
09:53space by sharing my
09:55music with them live
09:57connecting with them
09:59telling them my story
10:01who i am right at
10:03driving up my value as
10:05a creator because of
10:08my ability to create
10:09relationships with
10:11people because that's
10:12the heart of it there
10:13is no relationship with
10:14a large platform when
10:16you go and press
10:16purchase you've never
10:18met that person in
10:19fact some of us go
10:20years of following
10:21musicians that we
10:22love and we never get
10:24to have that interface
10:25with them or to build
10:26that relationship with
10:27them right we're just
10:28the consumer we're just
10:29the customer the
10:30customer right so this
10:32allows us to take that
10:33that um to actually
10:35just build a bridge
10:36between creators and
10:39people who appreciate
10:40create creation so
10:41that my theory was i'll
10:42take it off youtube
10:43there'll be rarity i'll
10:45build community i'll
10:46drive up value i'll
10:47show people in my
10:48action who i am and
10:50what i believe in by
10:51connecting with them
10:52consistently and at
10:55east denver we did
10:57that over a course of
10:57a weekend we performed
11:00we engaged people in
11:01healing sessions vis-a-vis
11:03meditation and um we
11:05did live music
11:06performances and it
11:07was immersive and um
11:09at the end of that
11:10conference someone
11:11minted that video
11:12someone collected my
11:14first that my first
11:15nft and it was
11:16something that i had
11:17again invested
11:18thousands of u.s
11:20stable coins into
11:21five years ago that
11:22just sat on youtube
11:24for pennies because
11:26that's how youtube
11:26works right no matter
11:28how many views right
11:30and someone collected
11:32that that nft after a
11:36weekend of a
11:37performance of
11:39relationships right and
11:40connection and so my
11:42theory was proven that
11:44if i i can i can
11:46actually um thrive in
11:50this space and i can
11:51contribute i can
11:52collect art in this
11:53space i have a
11:54wonderful collection of
11:55nfts that i'm very
11:56proud of and someone
11:58talks to us um about
12:00i forget the
12:01sister's name cara
12:02cara talks about
12:03nfts as a nft as a
12:05new future timeline
12:07i love that we call
12:11ourselves builders in
12:12this space yes to
12:13think of it in the
12:14terms of we're
12:15building new timelines
12:16parallel infrastructure
12:19is really what's
12:20happening exactly what
12:21the blockchain is doing
12:22it's beautiful and i
12:25wanted to hit on
12:26community because i
12:27don't think a lot of
12:28people who are new to
12:29the space understand
12:30just how integral and
12:32central to the success
12:34of the nft and
12:35blockchain ecosystem
12:36community is it really
12:39is dependent on being
12:42in spaces with one
12:43another whether they be
12:44in real life or
12:46virtually and connecting
12:48yes and when you
12:50connect with someone
12:51then you can show them
12:52that support you can
12:53show them that love it
12:55doesn't feel impersonal
12:56anymore it feels like
12:58no this is my friend and
13:00i want to encourage you
13:01and i want you to own
13:02your stuff because
13:04you're worth it and
13:05youtube shouldn't be
13:06owning it because that's
13:08the reality of what
13:09happens right now is
13:10those platforms they're
13:11getting the majority of
13:12the cut for hosting on
13:14their platform
13:14savitri wilson spoke on
13:16that earlier the first
13:17se talk here she said
13:19we we're so busy
13:21building up all these
13:22other things we go on
13:24the on all these other
13:25platforms and we give
13:26them our best looks our
13:27best pictures our best
13:28art our best songs and
13:31we and they in turn say
13:33i mean somebody might
13:35hear your song of the
13:36millions of people on
13:37spotify somebody might
13:39hear it but the truth is
13:41a million streams on
13:42spotify is about four
13:43thousand dollars a million
13:44streams for the creator
13:47right and so there's this
13:50imbalance between value and
13:55and creation that the
13:58blockchain check is really
13:59helping restore and i think
14:00that's where the impact is
14:02the impact is that we can
14:03actually stop and go wait a
14:04minute the music i listen to
14:06every day the inspirational
14:08art that i see the thing
14:10that feels healing to me the
14:12the the language that i talk
14:13in in terms of music and art
14:15when i have no other words
14:17has a very high value and
14:20how and every idea that you
14:22have can be nft so someone
14:26else could share that value
14:27with you so let's talk
14:29impact you brought up the
14:30word impact and i think a lot
14:33of people in this space who
14:34have just heard the news
14:36there's a lot of fear
14:38associated with this space
14:39and it just seems oh you're
14:41collecting images on the
14:43computer when nfts are so
14:46much more than that so can
14:47you tell us some ways that
14:49you envision impact being
14:52had by using the tool that
14:55is blockchain enabling the
14:57tools that are nfts and
14:59crypto and you know all of
15:02the pieces that make up this
15:04larger ecosystem what what is
15:06the impact that you are
15:07speaking out into this new
15:09timeline that we're creating
15:11so hyperstructures hyper speed
15:13what that means in just plain
15:16talk is that the space is
15:17moving fast and what that
15:20means is that we actually
15:22have an opportunity to make
15:24change quickly right so it's
15:28the it's the type of exchange
15:30where i could literally have
15:31something and give it to you
15:33and there is no middleman there
15:36is a ledger that approves that
15:37transaction that validates that
15:40transaction that validates my
15:42ownership i've seen so many
15:43people in the last five years
15:45three to five years who who've
15:47seen have their identity and
15:48their artwork and people
15:49mimicking them on instagram i
15:51know a lot of us have seen that
15:52where we're getting messages
15:53like that's not my profile i know
15:55they're using my art but that
15:56doesn't belong to me the
15:57blockchain tech that we're using
15:59here with nfts is a proof it
16:02proves your intellectual property
16:04is yours it proves that you are the
16:06owner of something and that we
16:07have had an exchange um so i see
16:10that on a on a consumer level it
16:12empowers the commute of the the
16:14consumer and the creator in that
16:16way um i'd also say that if you are
16:20somebody who is interested in
16:22creating social impact if you're
16:25someone i have a example of that a
16:28couple months ago there was a
16:30project we're in uh pampers um as
16:34well as um uh was it rock the
16:38bells rock the bell rock the l
16:39coojay's rock the bells festival
16:41curio uh nft marketplace absolutely
16:44they got together along with the
16:47white house
16:47let's be clear and they were
16:51involved in a project called uh that
16:54was that was to benefit black
16:55maternal health
16:56so they minted they got they
16:59worked with an artist to commission
17:01some beautiful visual art just like
17:04the visual art we have posted uh or
17:06have um on display here in the nft
17:08gallery in the digital art gallery and
17:10then they said attached to this
17:12beautiful one-of-a-kind art right is
17:16an opportunity for you to mint it
17:18meaning collect it put it in your
17:20digital wallet
17:21right and all the funds from that
17:26mint or those collectors are all now
17:30going to go directly to this
17:33organization that is supporting black
17:35maternal health
17:36it's not going to go in two weeks
17:38it's not going to go in the next
17:40congressional session
17:41it's not going to go when everybody
17:43when the next funding cycle it's it's
17:45it happens immediately
17:47and in that way that's what's so
17:50inspiring to me because
17:51there are people who need mothers
17:53who need that kind of um
17:55urgent response right so many
17:58different communities across the
18:00board so what i ask is what do you
18:01care about right i always end up
18:03saying if you're interested in nfts
18:05you're interested in web3 okay what
18:06do you care about and they go what
18:08do you mean by that what do you care
18:09about i care about art okay well
18:11then if you care about art you're
18:13going to love the way in which
18:14artists now have uh there's a
18:17resurgence of ownership and value oh
18:20okay you care about education really
18:22okay there's all kinds of nft projects
18:25now
18:25wherein the benefit of those are the
18:28funds associated with those projects
18:31go directly to fund uh having tech in
18:35ghana right now
18:36or in south central right now
18:40oh what do you care about oh i care
18:42about justice i care about
18:44education i care about music and
18:46arts i care about the environment
18:48you can create impact by simply
18:51designing a project and for some
18:53people they're like oh well that's
18:54what a non-profit is for and they
18:56don't realize how big those
18:57structures are and how long it takes
19:00for resources to trickle down from
19:02those spaces but with blockchain tech
19:05it's like me passing this mic
19:07i believe in that it revolutionizes
19:13philanthropy that that is what i see
19:16yeah and i mean art has always been
19:19the cornerstone of any type of
19:21revolution and we're really in a tech
19:23revolution and when you talk about
19:25impact what brings people together
19:28better than art and then art that you
19:29can instantaneously purchase and those
19:33funds off the jump are directed to
19:36exactly where they they need to be
19:37especially for things that are not
19:40talked about on visible platforms like
19:42black maternal health how many spaces
19:46that are not you know spaces of people
19:48of color are talking about those things
19:51but curio is not a black nft marketplace
19:53right and so that was a really really
19:57special moment to see um the community
20:00web3 community the nft community come
20:03together to shine a light on something
20:05that is desperately needs to be talked
20:09about a lot more i think what it does
20:11and i know we're as we round up i think
20:13what it does it is also it brings us
20:16closer together as human beings so if
20:19you're the type of person who wants to
20:20exist in anonymity you want to remain
20:22anonymous but you know you care about
20:24that thing or you do want to support
20:26that art you can do that directly to the
20:28artist right um if you're someone who
20:30has resources and you don't necessarily
20:33have your finger on the pulse of what
20:35people need you're now in a community
20:37wherein they can they're they're telling
20:39you through their art and through their
20:41music right and their presence in the
20:42community of what's needed and how they
20:44want to create impact and you can be a
20:46part of that and so it's a just a
20:48different energetic fuel for um the ways
20:52in which we're using our ideas because
20:54right now what we're doing is we're
20:56putting our ideas on platforms and we're
20:58giving them thumbs up and hearts but it's
21:00not everybody knows it's not giving us
21:02the fulfillment of actually creating
21:05impact and i'm so excited that i got my
21:08first wallet and that i am i am i am a
21:12part of this groundbreaking um soon to be
21:16industry standard and i'm excited that
21:18essence um believes in that as well and
21:20is and is bringing web3 education and
21:22blockchain education to new orleans this
21:24year i would encourage everybody to come

21:29have been on a mission you've been on
