00:43And it's about a 13-year-old black girl magic super genius named Lunella Lafayette
00:49and her 10-ton T-Rex Devil Dinosaur.
00:53Now, after Lunella accidentally brings the Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City

01:05This cast is amazing, too.

02:16And last but not least is Diamond White, who's the voice of Lunella, Moon Girl.
02:21Come on out here, Diamond.
02:25I'm going to fix my chair.
02:26I'm a full service worker here.
02:28There we go.
02:29Hi, Diamond.
02:31All right, guys.
02:32I want to start with you, Rodney, first.
02:35Uh-oh.

02:42It was already fixed.
02:43We were in thing.
02:44See?
02:45They take care of their queens here at Essence Fest.
02:47You see that?
02:48Huh?
02:49Hello?
02:50Okay.
02:51So, Rodney, can you tell us about Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur?
02:53Well, Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is an animated series.
02:58It's based on the Marvel comic book.
03:01And it's about a 13-year-old super genius named Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur.
03:10So, what do you do when you have a big brain like Lunella and a big red dinosaur at your disposal?
03:19So, your choice is to become a crime fighter.
03:22That's right.
03:23That's what you do.
03:24That's what you do.
03:25Lunella and Devil Dinosaur decided to do.
03:27They formed a superhero duo to fight crime in the Lower East Side of New York.
03:32I love it.
03:33Yeah.
03:34And it's executive produced by the Lawrence Fishburne.
03:38Lawrence Fishburne.
03:39There's his name again.
03:40And Helen Sugglin from Cinema Gypsy Productions.
03:42Absent.
03:43I love it.
03:44And they produced, you know, Black-ish, Grown-ish, all the issues.
03:46Listen, all the issues.
03:47You know, any issue you can think of, they probably produced it.
03:50And also executive produced by the Emmy award-winning Steve Loader.
03:56Love it.
03:57Love it.
03:58Love it.
03:59For Diamond and Sasheer.
04:00Hello, my loves.
04:01Can you tell us about your characters and what it's like playing them?
04:05Well, playing Moon Girl is really fun.
04:09She's incredible.
04:10She's super smart.
04:11She's into quantum physics.
04:13Love it.
04:14I mean, what more could you ask for?
04:16That's right.
04:17She has an amazing support system.
04:21A great family.
04:22They own a roller rink.
04:24We skate.
04:25We have fun.
04:26This is my mom.
04:28She plays my mom, Lunella's mom.
04:30I play Adria, Lunella's mom.
04:32And she's so proud of having such a smart, super genius kid.
04:37And doesn't realize that she's also an amazing superhero.
04:41And Adria helps run the roller rink in the Lower East Side.
04:45And has a lot of community pride.
04:48So she's always having block parties.
04:50She's a DJ.
04:51She loves her playlists.
04:52And she loves being able to bring people together.
04:54Love it.
04:55Pilar.
04:56Hi, honey.
04:57This voice cast is stacked.
05:00So do you want to drop some names about who else is doing voices on this amazing show?
05:05Oh, yes.
05:06Yeah, the cast is ridiculous.
05:09I mean, honestly, to the point where I'm pinching myself every morning.
05:12I can't even believe it.
05:13I love it.
05:14Besides these two phenomenal ladies right here, who you just heard from,
05:17we also have the Alfre Woodard playing Lunella's grandmother, Mimi.
05:23I mean, Diamond, how cool is that?
05:25Alfre's your grandmother.
05:26And Adria's your mom.
05:28Coolest family.
05:29I can't even explain.
05:31I want to tell you now because I fangirl over you a lot.
05:34We all do.
05:35I get scared to, like, say it.
05:37But I fangirl over you a lot.
05:39Yeah.
05:40I love you.
05:42She plays your mom.
05:43It's so cool.
05:44Making connections on the essence of the stage.
05:46And besides that, we have Gary Anthony Williams playing Lunella's grandfather, Pops.
05:51Genius.
05:52Jermaine Fowler plays her dad.
05:54We have Libba Barrer plays her best friend and manager, Casey, who also, by the way, happens to be a total Latina lady boss, which I'm very personally excited about.
06:01And then we have Frateta Shuri playing Devil Dinosaur.
06:04And like you all mentioned, Laurence Fishburne plays the Beyonder, who is an omnipotent trickster that causes all sorts of mayhem in Lunella's world.
06:11So that's just our main cast.
06:13It's amazing.
06:14Well, I mean, I just feel like I'm right here.
06:16I don't know why.
06:17I don't know why.
06:18I know.
06:19I was just thinking.
06:20I was like, if they do it either.
06:21I do do voices.
06:22We've got your number, girl.
06:23All right.
06:24All right.
06:25So for the group, why is Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur special to you?
06:28And what can we expect from the series in a whole?
06:30What themes do we look for?
06:32There's a strong family theme in the show.
06:35And I think it's important for people to see a multi-generational family on TV and in a cartoon form and see people support each other and love each other and everyone being the same.
06:46home with different perspectives, but they're all like helping each other in different ways.
06:51And I love that.
06:52Yeah.
06:53I think that's important.
06:54I have, I come from a very big family, but I'm the youngest of a lot.
06:58So I didn't grow up with all of their perspectives, just mine.
07:02So this would be something that I'm watching, learning a lot about, hey, this is what growing up with a strong support system is.
07:10And it's amazing.
07:12Yeah, it's, it's, um, you know, Lunella is one of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe.
07:21And also to point out that Moon Girl, Lunella is the Marvel's first African American teenage girl superhero.
07:30Wow.
07:31Yeah.
07:32Y'all better clap for that.
07:33Y'all better clap for that.
07:34Y'all better clap for that.
07:35You know, so in all the stories, they have heart, comedy, and action.
07:40And like all the stuff that you love from Marvel, but also with a bomb soundtrack.
07:44That's right.
07:45I love it.
07:46That's so cool.
07:47Well, and for me, the message that girls and women are not just one thing.
07:51We can be super geniuses.
07:52That's right.
07:53We can be superheroes.
07:54We can love math science dinosaurs.
07:56And we can look damn good while doing it, like Ms. Diamond right here.
07:59That's right.
08:00So.
08:01That's right.
08:02Well, Pilar, while you're talking, when will the series premiere?
08:03And where can fans watch it?
08:05Okay.
