00:30Good morning, everyone, and welcome to day two of the Essence Wellness House of Virtual
00:44Summit. My name is Faith Hunter, and I am a yoga and meditation instructor based in Washington,
00:53D.C. I'm so glad that you're joining us for another day. If this is your first day, welcome.
00:59And let's dive in. We are living in this very interesting and very, like, unprecedented
01:09time. However, having this opportunity to drop into a morning meditation and experience all
01:18of the other speakers is going to inspire us. And it is really this place of healing that will
01:27support us through these times. The practice that I want to share today is going to be a little bit
01:34different than what we experienced yesterday. Yesterday's practice was a lot of breathing and
01:41heated practice to help kind of purify and cleanse some of the thoughts in our minds.
01:46And then we dropped into a healing meditation to inspire and uplift our character. Today's practice
01:53is about finding this place of stability. We are the holders, the keepers, the mothers, the sisters,
02:03the nurturers of so many individuals. Regardless of who we are, especially for women,
02:11we are constantly holding the life force because we are that divine life force. But we're the holders
02:20and the keepers of so much, especially during this time. What happens is that not only are we in this
02:27place of fear and discomfort and anxiety, which really impacts and amplifies our sympathetic nervous system,
02:37but how do we find this place of grounding, cooling and soothing? That's what we're going to do today.
02:44All right. So make yourselves comfortable. Find a nice, easy seat.
02:49And I'm sitting on my sofa. So you can sit on a sofa, you can sit in a chair, or if you prefer,
02:58you can sit on the floor. The idea is that you are comfortable, legs crossed or straight. The spine is long.
03:07So like you to sit up nice and tall and feel the crown of your head start to rise towards the heavens
03:16as your hips ground into the earth. And we're going to drop into just a nice deep breathing practice.
03:22So I just want you to inhale slowly
03:28and then exhale out of the mouth.
03:32Breathe in through the nose.
03:33Exhale out of the mouth.
03:41And do that three more times on your own,
03:44just breathing in through the nose and breathing out through the mouth.
03:48And as you do this, I want your shoulders to relax on the exhale.
03:52And then on the inhale, feel that breath, that life force travel through you
03:58and rise to the crown of your head.
04:03This breathing technique just simply brings us into the present moment.
04:10And that's what I want for you this morning to be with me in the present,
04:16nurturing, holding, and feeling this sense of connection to yourself.
04:21Now let's dive into a little bit more of a deep breathing practice that is going to support,
04:29complement, and soothe your sympathetic or your parasympathetic nervous system.
04:36So this breathing technique is about closing off the right nostril.
04:40And if you don't know, the right side of the body is the more active, the more masculine,
04:45the more sun vibration. And then the left side of our bodies is our more mood, more calming,
04:53more soothing, more grounding and intuitive aspect of who we are.
04:58Regardless if we're male or female or however we identify, we have masculine and male,
05:04the alpha and the omega energy within us.
05:07So I want us to close off that alpha energy, that sun energy,
05:11by taking the right thumb and closing off the right nostril.
05:16And you're going to close your eyes and the left hand can just simply rest on your leg.
05:20And you're going to breathe in and out of your left nostril.
05:25So slow breath in through the left nostril.
05:30Slow breath out.
05:31Slow breath out.
05:36Gently breathe in through the left.
05:41Exhale.
05:48In through the left.
05:53And out through the left.
05:54Continue to do this for another 30 seconds.
06:05And just simply focus on the breath coming in and gently moving out.
06:13Knowing that you are laying this foundation for your inner wisdom, your strength,
06:19your holding space for yourself in this moment.
06:33Just a few more seconds.
06:35Breathing in through the left.
06:38Breathing out through the left.
06:47And then slowly release your right hand from your right nostril.
07:17Keeping the eyes closed for a few more breaths.
07:20And simply breathing in and out of your nose.
07:24Feeling the breath traveling through both nostrils.
07:27But observing and noticing the sensation of calm and soothing and grounding that you've cultivated
07:33in your body, in your mind, in your soul.
07:38The left nostril breathing technique is perfect for when you are feeling a little anxious.
07:44When there's a little too much fire and heat in your body and you feel aggravated, angered.
07:51Even if you feel a little frustrated,
07:53that this breathing technique helps to calm and soothing and find that sense of neutral balance
08:02between your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system.
08:06Take another breath in through the nose.
08:10And all together, let's breathe out of the mouth.
08:17And then start to blink your eyes open.
08:20So now we're going to dive into our meditation practice.
08:25The breathing techniques are about laying the foundation and prepping us so that we feel secure,
08:31stable and ready to experience something really soothing today.
08:37The breathing technique that we're going to use is simply in and out of the nose as we do this meditation.
08:44But we are going to stimulate our hands.
08:48And in the practice of yoga, when we use different hand positions, they're called mudras.
08:56Now, the really amazing thing is that regardless of where you are, who you are and the cultures that you're in,
09:04the hands are used in some way to stimulate and generate energy.
09:09Mudras are just simply these seals, these aspects of actually amplifying energy within us in some mechanism.
09:19It may be about balancing.
09:21It may be about stimulating.
09:24It may be calming, whatever it may be.
09:27But today's practice is about harnessing all the energy that lives within us.
09:33Our masculine, our feminine, our sun, our moon,
09:36bringing it together in an element of focus.
09:39Now, this is the mudra.
09:40All the tips of your fingers, including your thumbs, are going to touch.
09:44This particular hand position is called Hakini Mudra.
09:50And this is the mudra of focus and concentration.
09:55And that's really what I want us to cultivate today.
09:58Now, I'm going to drop a little thoughts here
10:01so that you really understand how we're harnessing this energy.
10:04Our thumbs are guided by and stimulated by the moon.
10:09They're calming.
10:10That aspect lives within us.
10:12Our index fingers stimulate and actually stimulate energy
10:17and are actually ruled by the planet Jupiter,
10:21which is about moving and being in action that lives within us.
10:25Our middle finger is ruled by Saturn, right?
10:30And Saturn has these rings.
10:32And Saturn is about disruption.
10:35Sometimes we need to go inside of ourselves,
10:38shift things around so that we can actually stand and be firm in who we are.
10:45So Saturn helps us do that.
10:48The middle finger, our ring finger, is actually stimulated by the sun.
10:54And that is about fire, about energy, about purification,
10:58about shedding light on the things that are no longer serving us.
11:03And then our very final finger, our pinky finger, is Jupiter.
11:07And Jupiter is Mercury, sorry, our middle finger, what is this?
11:13Pinky finger.
11:14Our pinky finger is ruled by Mercury and Mercury is communication.
11:19So we have thumbs that are the moon, index fingers, Jupiter in action.
11:23Our middle finger, right, is Saturn, disruption.
11:27Our ring finger is the sun.
11:30And our pinky finger is Mercury, communication.
11:33We're going to bring all of that together, harness that energy within us,
11:38and then place our mudra right in front of our heart centers.
11:44So as the spine continues to grow long, you're going to close your eyes.
11:48All of the tips of your fingers are touching.
11:52And I want you to breathe deeply in and out of your nose.
11:58As the breath comes in, relax the shoulders.
12:00And think about all of the energy that resides in you.
12:07Everything around us is energy.
12:10Even the world that we are living in today is shifting and changing.
12:17And in order for us to respond with grace, with ease, with keen focus,
12:24awareness, we have to cultivate, we have to balance.
12:30And we have to find this new sense of energy, a renewed sense of energy,
12:37a more connected sense of energy than we have before.
12:43The times that we are living in are about shifting and changing.
12:52It is impossible for us to live our lives in the same way.
12:57And you, as the keepers, as the holders, as the nurturers, as the balancers of your families,
13:11of your community, in order for you to do this.
13:16You must amplify, you must elevate all of the energy that lives within you.
13:27So this morning, I'd like for you to breathe deeply in and out of the nose.
13:34Feel the sensations, the power of your sun energy.
13:40Shedding light on the dynamics within your life that you need to shift and change.
13:50That you need to burn away and purify.
14:00I'd like for you to acknowledge the disruption that is happening in our world.
14:06And know that the work that is being done gives us this opportunity to pause,
14:17to see, and even allow a little disruption to happen within our own souls, our own thoughts.
14:28So that when we come out of this crisis, this pandemic,
14:32we've cleaned our house.
14:38We've emptied it of its furniture.
14:41We've released the things that are no longer serving us.
14:46Because we looked inside and allowed the disruption to happen.
14:50And I'd like for you to find this element of inner connection, inner dialogue.
15:08As the pinky fingers touch, you feel the energy of mercury communication.
15:20And know that that energy resides in you.
15:25Allow your thoughts to surface to the top.
15:28And know that through the breath, through the practice of meditation,
15:36you have the capacity to sift through the thoughts that are creating these elements of fear and anxiety.
15:45And know that through deep wisdom, deep inner connection,
15:54you can find that place of release and letting go.
16:03Stay connected to the breath.
16:05Allow it to flow in and out.
16:08As you feel your index fingers touch.
16:15And that amplified energy of being in action.
16:22As you move and navigate through the rest of your day,
16:27through tomorrow, the next week, the next month,
16:31all of your actions, all of your deeds are filled with divine intuition.
16:42Because you are taking the steps that you need to,
16:46for yourself, for your family, for your community,
16:52and doing it with a wise, intuitive mind.
16:58And an open, compassionate, and loving heart.
17:12Now I want you to feel the energy of the moon.
17:18The calming, soothing, nurturing energy.
17:23And I really want you to allow that to move into your heart space.
17:36As you press all of your fingertips together, as you focus on the breath moving in and out.
17:45Know that the qualities of the moon
17:47are the elements that are greatest within you.
17:55For this brings clear insight.
18:00Calmness.
18:03And it soothes the soul
18:06in a very loving and nurturing manner.
18:09Harness all of what you are.
18:22And allow it to rest in your heart.
18:28You are amazing, powerful, divine creature.
18:31And it is up to us to cultivate the energy that we need
18:40in order to move into this world
18:44with divine wisdom,
18:48with grace.
18:48And it is up to us to move into this world.
19:00Connect it to the heart.
19:04And clear sight through inner wisdom.
19:07Take a few more breaths in and out of your nose.
19:19Feel the expansiveness of your heart.
19:24Feel that cooling, calming, soothing energy that resonates within you.
19:31That seeps and pours from every inch of who you are.
19:37Let's go.
19:42Breathing in.
19:45Breathing out.
19:48Breathing in.
19:52Breathing out.
20:03Breathing out.
21:05Continue to breathe deeply in and out of your nose, feeling yourself grounded, rooted, connected
21:23to the earth, feel that sense of equanimity, inner balance that you've cultivated this
21:35morning, and breathe into the essence of who you are.
21:50The divine light that radiates from you.
22:06Breathe into the power of your hands that support, that heal, that nurtures, that elevates not
22:24only yourself, but all those around you.
22:27This practice this morning is about cooling, calming, and moving from a place of inner stability.
22:48Breathe in.
22:52Exhale.
22:55Keep the fingers touching.
22:59Continue to breathe in.
23:03Exhale.
23:05One more breath as the fingers touch.
23:12Breathe in.
23:14And exhale.
23:18Allow your hands to come and rest on your knees with the palms facing down.
23:28Keep the eyes closed, and I just want you to observe and notice what's happening in your
23:37body, what you may be feeling in your heart space.
23:43And as we take these few final moments together, I'd like to read you a passage in closing.
23:56Upon this earth, we walk a divine path of creation.
24:05Each step we take is a dynamic, powerful, elevated vibration.
24:15And each step that we take ripples into the next and impacts those around us.
24:25All of our souls, regardless of the steps we take, have to connect in purpose.
24:35Our steps are like streams of water that carry life.
24:44And the waterfalls that live within us craft this amazing and beautiful landscape called our lives.
24:55And our lives intertwine.
24:58They connect.
25:01But mostly, the steps that we take cradle all of our hopes.
25:14So therefore, we have the choice to stand together or run away in fear.
25:34Breathe in.
25:39Exhale slowly.
25:43One more.
25:44Breathe in.
25:45Exhale.
25:46One more.
25:47Breathe in.
25:48And exhale.
25:49One more.
25:50Breathe in.
25:51And exhale.
25:52Take your left palm, place it right in the center of your chest.
26:09And allow your right hand to come and rest right on top.
26:20Feel your heartbeat.
26:21Feel the rhythm and powerful elevation of your soul.
26:26Feel all the aspects of energy that runs and floods through you.
26:32And know that as the healer, as the keeper, as the nurturer, as the mother, as the sister, as the daughter, as the aunt, as the cousin to all of those around you, you have the capacity to not only nurture yourself, but take that energy and be of service to those around you.
26:57The times that we are in.
26:58The times that we are in gives us the opportunity to look inside to find the strength that lives within so that we may move out and navigate this world together.
27:12Deep breath in.
27:13Deep breath in.
27:14Feel that energy rise.
27:16Exhale slowly.
27:17Allow your hands to fall.
27:30Slowly begin to open your eyes.
27:33And if you need to do any movements, any adjusting, any twisting, any stretching, rotate the wrist, rotate your ankles if you need to go in and do so.
