00:50Trump is the most dangerous president, maybe, in American history.
00:58In America, we are the longest standing democracy in the world,
01:05going back to the 1770s,
01:08where Americans overthrew the British Empire to create their own country.
01:13And with a strong constitution and a strong declaration of independence,
01:19tragically for this country, Donald Trump is an authoritarian.
01:25He is an oligarch.
01:27His view of the future is a small number of incredibly wealthy people
01:34getting even richer
01:36and moving the United States toward an authoritarian society.
01:41So we are very alarmed
01:44at what Trump is doing domestically.
01:47We're very alarmed at what Trump is doing
01:49to America's presence internationally as well.
01:53And many of us, and I think many of us,
01:57are fighting back as best we can.
01:59And I think we are succeeding in the sense
02:01that Trump's popularity
02:02is declining every single day.
02:05We have never seen anybody, any president,
02:07who has had such contempt for the rule of law.
02:10I mean, you can't have a democratic society
02:14where you do not obey the law.
02:18And that's the first time that we've really seen it.
02:21I mean, there have been very strong differences
02:22between the left and the right.
02:25But you don't question it.
02:26If there's an election, you win the election,
02:27I don't, you know, threaten you.
02:30So Trump is changing the name of the game.
02:35And I think we are working hard both legally
02:37and in a number of instances,
02:40our courts are doing the right thing.
02:42They're holding up defending the Constitution.
02:44Some cases not.
02:46But at the end of the day,
02:48it is going to have to be the American people
02:51who say no to authoritarianism.
02:54This country, unlike Europe, in many ways,
02:59I mean, we have, going back to the 1770s,
03:03fought against authoritarianism and tyranny.
03:07And I think there is a deep sense,
03:11even among people with different political views,
03:14that we do not want some dictator-type guy
03:19running this country.
03:21And our goal, and we're doing that.
03:23We've had rallies where millions of people have come out.
03:26We're winning elections.
03:28And we have got to continue to educate
03:33and organize grassroots opposition to Trumpism.
03:37New York.
03:38According to the best of my ability.
03:40According to the best of my ability.
03:42So help me God.
03:43So help me God.
03:48I hope very much that right now, as you know,
03:51the Republicans, with a very tiny majority,
03:55control the House.
03:56They control the Senate.
03:58Obviously, Trump is in the White House.
04:01My hope is that in 2026, our midterm elections,
04:05Democrats will regain control over the House.
04:08I think that is a real possibility.
04:11If the election were held today,
04:13I believe that would happen.
04:15And there is a possibility,
04:17a more distant possibility,
04:19but a possibility Democrats could win the Senate.
04:21If that happens,
04:23we will be able to negate
04:26and hold back a lot of what Trump is doing.
04:29As you know, there are strong differences of opinion
04:32in the Democratic Party.
04:33I am one of the leaders of the progressive movement,
04:36and we're taking on the establishment.
04:37And I think one of the reasons that Trump is in power,
04:41and this is similar to what's going on in Europe,
04:44is the failure of the old established left-wing parties
04:47to address the needs of the working class.
04:49That is certainly true in America.
04:53Having said that,
04:55I think that there were, as you know,
04:59some elections,
05:00a small number of elections in November of 2025.
05:05Democrats won much better than expected
05:07in New Jersey,
05:09governorship in Virginia,
05:11and Zoran Mamdani won an extraordinary victory
05:15in New York City.
05:15I want the people of Europe to know
05:17that while Trump does have
05:22a very loyal following,
05:24my guess is it's about 30% of the American people.
05:28And those people
05:28are authoritarian-minded.
05:33They like the idea of a strong leader.
05:36Europe is familiar with that phenomenon, yes.
05:38You've had a little bit of that in Spain.
05:40Italy, Germany, etc.
05:45And they like the idea.
05:46But that strong support is minority.
05:50A majority of the American,
05:52not a majority,
05:52but a significant plurality of the American people
05:56are very strongly opposed to what Trump is doing.
06:00So I don't want anybody in Europe to think
06:03that Trump is reflecting where most Americans are at.
06:07He is not.
06:08Some Americans, yes.
06:10But most Americans, no.
06:13I would also say that one of the reasons,
06:17and it's an issue that area that I am working hard on,
06:21one of the reasons that Trump won the election
06:23is not because people voted for him
06:26to invade Denmark
06:27or to attack Venezuela
06:30or to try to cozy up to Saudi Arabia or the UAE.
06:38They voted for him because,
06:41and I think Europeans don't know this,
06:44the working class in this country
06:46is really struggling.
06:51Many Europeans don't know
06:53that we are the only major country on Earth
06:54that doesn't guarantee health care to all people.
06:56That means that as we speak there are millions of Americans
07:00who cannot afford to go to a doctor when they get sick.
07:04So almost a third of our population is either uninsured or underinsured.
07:08Can't get to a doctor.
07:09We pay the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs.
07:12We are dying at a younger age than people in Europe.
07:19Our education system right now,
07:21it is very expensive to go to college.
07:24Many people can't afford it.
07:25They can't afford child care.
07:27Housing in America is extremely high.
07:29So one of the reasons that Trump has been successful
07:33is that working class people have looked to the Democrats
07:36and the Democrats have not really delivered for them.
07:40So what many of us are doing,
07:42myself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,
07:45Azaran Mamdani,
07:46and others, many others,
07:47are trying to transform the Democratic Party
07:50to a party of the working class
07:52prepared to take on the oligarchs.
07:54It is maybe the worst Supreme Court decision
08:09in American history
08:11because what it does is undermine American democracy.
08:16What it says is that we have a First Amendment
08:18called freedom of speech, right?
08:21So you want to go out there,
08:22you want to write an article attacking me,
08:23you have the right to do that.
08:24You're protected by the Constitution.
08:29But what the Supreme Court said
08:31is that if you're a billionaire,
08:33you have unlimited amounts of money,
08:35you could spend as much money as you want
08:38through a super PAC to buy an election.
08:42That's your freedom of speech.
08:44You want to spend $100 million on ads against Bernie Sanders?
08:48It's your right.
08:49And that is a terrible decision,
08:51and the consequences of it are
08:53that Elon Musk himself spent $290 million
09:00to elect Donald Trump.
09:03And I suspect Musk will spend hundreds,
09:06well, I don't know, tens of millions of dollars
09:07in the midterm elections.
09:10Other billionaires,
09:11mostly Republicans,
09:12but some Democrats as well,
09:14are spending a huge amount of money.
09:16This is undermining democracy.
09:19So Musk is now funding right-wing parties
09:22all over the world,
09:24Europe and elsewhere.
09:26Trump is certainly doing the same,
09:28wishing his friends in Latin America,
09:31supporting his friends in Latin America.
09:32So we're looking at a coming together
09:37of the billionaire oligarchs
09:39with right-wing extremist parties
09:41who do not believe in democracy.
09:44To my mind, the answer to that,
09:46and where the Democratic establishment parties
09:50in Europe have failed,
09:51as has the Democratic Party here,
09:53is having the guts
09:55and the agenda to stand up to the oligarchs.
09:58All right?
10:00And we have failed here.
10:02The Democratic Party here has failed,
10:03and that's the fight
10:04that we're having right now.
10:06You cannot have democracy
10:08when you have a few people
10:10with so much wealth and power.
10:11And we've got to take them on.
10:13I think, number one,
10:14it is disgusting beyond words
10:17that anybody would exploit young girls
10:21the way that Epstein and his friends did.
10:25That goes without saying.
10:26That is beyond disgusting.
10:28But second of all,
10:30I think your point is right
10:32in that what it also shows
10:34that if you are rich
10:35and you are powerful,
10:38you live in a different world
10:40and you can play
10:41by a different set of rules,
10:42often with impunity.
10:45And I think that is...
10:47So the American people
10:47are responding to the Epstein situation
10:50in two ways.
10:51Number one, disgust
10:52with the outrageous behavior
10:55and exploitation of girls.
11:00That's number one.
11:01But number two,
11:01the understanding
11:02that if your kid goes into a store
11:06and robs a store,
11:07a book is going to be thrown
11:08and a kid be thrown in jail.
11:10But if you are a billionaire
11:11and you do terrible things
11:12to children,
11:14well, you know,
11:15that's another story.
11:16And that just shows,
11:18I think the American people
11:19are seeing
11:20the incredible power
11:21of the elite,
11:24of the billionaire class
11:25across political lines.
11:27It doesn't matter
11:27whether you're liberal
11:28or a conservative,
11:29Democrat or Republican,
11:30somehow all of these folks
11:32get together
11:33and they do what they want
11:34in their world.
11:35And I think
11:35that is one of the reasons
11:38that I think
11:38more and more people
11:40are prepared to take on
11:41oligarchs in this country.
11:43And I want the people
11:49of Latin America
11:50to understand that.
11:54It is no great secret
11:55that for many, many years
11:57the United States
11:58dominated Latin America,
12:00overthrew government
12:00after government,
12:02Salvador Allende
12:03being one of many.
12:06And that is not
12:10what the American people
12:11want.
12:13The people of Latin America
12:14have a right
12:15to determine
12:16their own futures
12:17in partnership
12:19with the United States,
12:20not dominated
12:21by the United States.
12:23So there are many of us
12:24who will do everything
12:25that we can
12:25to resist
12:27the United States government
12:30using its power
12:32to determine
12:35governance
12:36in Latin America.
12:38That's a violation
12:40of international law.
12:41And it's something
12:46that in extreme cases
12:48the international community
12:49would have to deal with.
12:50But the idea
12:52that a strong nation
12:55can unilaterally decide
12:57who's going to be running
12:58another country
12:59sets a precedent
13:02for every country
13:03on earth
13:03to do the same.
13:04So I have been
13:06very strong
13:07as has people
13:08throughout Europe
13:09and the world
13:09in condemning
13:10Putin's invasion
13:11of Ukraine.
13:13Now Putin had his reasons.
13:15There are lies.
13:16What he's doing
13:16is horrible.
13:18But how can
13:18the United States
13:19condemn Putin
13:20or anybody else
13:21if we think that
13:23if the United States
13:24government thinks
13:24it can overthrow governments
13:26and take unilateral
13:27military action?
13:28If this planet
13:29is going to survive
13:30we have to do it
13:31through diplomacy.
13:32We have to sit down
13:33and work our things.
13:34You can't have
13:35nations simply
13:36invading other nations
13:38at the whim of the leader.
13:39Look, I don't know.
13:41With Trump
13:43you have an unstable
13:44irrational leader.
13:48So I don't know
13:48what he's
13:49nobody knows
13:49what he will do tomorrow.
13:50And I fear very much
13:52that there are not
13:53cool-headed
13:56advisers around him.
13:58I think he has
13:59intimidated his own advisers
14:01who will not speak up
14:02against him.
14:04But I think
14:05Scheinbaum appears to be
14:07I'm not an expert
14:08on Mexico by any means
14:09and appears to be
14:10doing a good job.
14:10The people of Minnesota
14:24have been extraordinarily brave.
14:29And I think history
14:31will record
14:32that 50,000
14:34some 50,000 people
14:35in Minnesota
14:36came out
14:36on a bitter cold day
14:38well below zero
14:39to oppose ICE
14:41and what Trump
14:46is doing
14:46in that state.
14:48They stood up
14:48and they fought back.
14:51And that was
14:51an inspiration
14:53to people
14:54I think
14:54all over our country.
14:57So right now
14:58I think
14:58the shooting
15:00the killing
15:00of Mr.
15:02Preddy
15:02and
15:03what was her name?
15:05Wood.
15:06Good.
15:06Was a wake-up call
15:09and bashing down
15:10of doors
15:11and the arresting
15:12of five-year-old children.
15:14I think the American people
15:16are saying
15:16that is not
15:17what this country
15:19is about.
15:21I brought
15:21introduced
15:22an amendment
15:23that would rescind
15:24the extraordinary
15:27increase in funding
15:28that ICE got
15:30in the so-called
15:30Big Beautiful Bill.
15:32Other people
15:33are taking different actions
15:33but we are
15:34trying now
15:36to
15:37make sure
15:39that ICE
15:40operates
15:41within a
15:42constitutional
15:42and legal framework.
15:44Take that
15:45with a grain of salt.
15:48I think
15:49what Trump
15:50understands
15:50he reads polls
15:51very, very closely.
15:53The American people
15:54do not like
15:54what happened
15:55in Minnesota
15:55so what they're
15:57going to say
15:57is okay
15:57we're cutting back.
15:59To what degree
16:00they are
16:01I don't
16:01I don't have
16:02a lot of confidence
16:03in them.
16:04I think Trump
16:04is an authoritarian
16:05he has a domestic army
16:06and I think
16:07he will use it
16:08when he feels
16:09it's appropriate.
16:10What I think
16:11is
16:11what ICE
16:12is about
16:13is
16:15the movement
16:16toward authoritarianism
16:17the stifling
16:18of dissent.
16:20So it's not just
16:21you know
16:22it's a people
16:24stand up
16:24if he's an observer
16:25he's there to watch it
16:26he's going to get arrested
16:27he's going to get profiled
16:29so if you want
16:31to stand up
16:31to Trump
16:32you are in trouble
16:32that's authoritarianism
16:34that's the exact opposite
16:35of American freedom
16:36I think that's a lot
16:38it's a show of strength
16:39we have
16:39an army
16:40and we will go
16:42after you
16:42if you resist us
16:45that's kind of
16:46the message
16:46of what he is
16:46trying to do.
