00:00This place might control the future.
00:02Welcome to Greenland.
00:04So what's hidden here that everyone wants?
00:06At first, it looks empty, just ice, snow,
00:09nothing happening, but even the name is misleading.
00:12Greenland is around 80% covered in ice.
00:14It was named over a thousand years ago
00:16by a Viking called Eric the Red,
00:18who wanted to attract settlers.
00:19So he called it Greenland to make it sound appealing.
00:22Basically, the world's first real estate marketing trick.
00:25But today, the real value isn't the name,
00:27it's what's under the ice.
00:29Greenland holds massive reserves of earth minerals
00:32like lithium, uranium, copper, and even iron.
00:35The same materials used in electric cars,
00:37smartphones, renewable energy, and modern weapons.
00:40In other words, Greenland isn't empty.
00:42It's a warehouse of the future.
00:44Now here's the bigger question.
00:45What happens as the Arctic melts?
00:47New shipping routes are opening across the top of the world,
00:50linking Asia, Europe, and North America.
00:53Russia is already developing and using Northern Arctic routes
00:56to move exports between Europe and Asia.
00:58And China is investing in Arctic trade with Russia
01:01to find shorter alternatives to traditional routes.
01:03That puts Greenland right in the middle of future global trade.
01:07Then there's politics.
01:08Greenland belongs to Denmark,
01:09but it governs itself and could one day become independent.
01:12The United States already has a major military base there,
01:15used for missile detection and space surveillance.
01:18So what if the US controlled Greenland?
01:20It would control critical minerals.
01:22It would sit on the world's next trade highways,
01:25and it would gain a permanent military position
01:27between America, Europe, and Russia.
01:30So Greenland isn't just ice.
01:32It's resources, it's leverage, it's power.
01:34And that's why this frozen island might end up shaping the future of global politics.
01:39Greenland was never green with grass.
01:41It was green with value.
01:42Future may prove it was the most accurate name Eric the Red could have chosen.
