00:00We've seen that attention can make a difference and public outcry can make a difference.
00:04It has led to some people not being executed.
00:07It has led to death sentences being pulled back.
00:10Well, we have been pushing, obviously, for the release of detainees, but also for detainees
00:14who are being held sort of incommunicado to receive access to, you know, sort of medical
00:20care to receive, you know, communication or visits from their lawyers and from family
00:26members.
00:26So that is something that we advocate for the cases that we're focusing on, but also
00:31I would say any detainee that's been, you know, put in prison.
00:35And we have seen in Iran, unfortunately, cases where people have died in custody, for example,
00:40because they've been denied medical care.
00:42The main case that I worked on was that of the poet and filmmaker Bhaktar Shaptin, who
00:47was killed, you know, he died in custody four years ago because he was denied care in custody.
00:51So, but there are many others and we do, we do push, you know, for detainees to receive
00:57due process for, you know, for cases to be adjudicated as fairly and impartially as possible.
01:02Although in Iran, that's virtually not possible because the judicial system is not independent.
01:08So we do, we do push and we raise attention to the names of the cases of people detained.
01:12I think we've seen that attention can make a difference and public outcry can make a difference.
01:17It has led to some people not being executed.
01:21It has led to death sentences being pulled back and, you know, to, you know, to, you know,
01:26a 10 year sentence is still better than an execution.
01:28So we do push for, you know, for reduction of sentences, for better care for detainees,
01:34as well as for people to be released as well.
01:36And those are some of the sort of more practical measures.
