00:30So, Cain Dingle, you're 51 years old. You've done a few things in your life. Seen plenty more.
01:00You've always been there for your family.
01:02I think they're Kyle. Kyle, do you know where Isaac's left his shoes?
01:06Er, no.
01:07But you've never faced a day like this.
01:09I think you know we look, mate.
01:11And now you've just got to get through it.
01:14It's better than going barefoot.
01:16What time's the bus leave again?
01:18Ten minutes ago.
01:19What? Why didn't you say?
01:21It's okay, no big deal. We can drive you in.
01:24Can Dad not take us?
01:33I need to get this.
01:37Hello?
01:38We'll take you.
01:39Your Dad's got somewhere to be.
01:40This call is from a person currently in prison in England. All calls are logged and recorded and may be listened to by a member of prison staff. If you do not wish to accept this call, please hang up now.
01:54Cain? Is that you?
02:00Hey. How'd you sleep?
02:03Er, I didn't.
02:05No one's given you any grief, are they?
02:07Mm-mm. No, no, no. I'm fine. I swear.
02:11Er, oh yeah, what did you tell the boys?
02:14Er, I said that you loved them and this would all be sorted out sooner than they know.
02:23Right.
02:25Well, they needed to hear it.
02:30Er, you're still going to go to your hospital appointment this afternoon, aren't you?
02:35Well, I said that I would. You don't need to be worrying about any of this.
02:39Er, of course I'm going to worry, aren't you?
02:42I'm not worried.
02:43I mean, I'd probably turn out to be nothing.
02:50Well, I will call you as soon as I can this afternoon and see what your results are.
02:55Yeah, I'm coming to see you tomorrow. There's no need.
02:58Oh, come on, Cain. You know I'm going to go out of my mind if I don't know what's happening.
03:04OK.
03:06Cain?
03:07I said OK. Right, you just keep your head down and make sure nobody gets you down in there.
03:15You've got this.
03:16Mm-hmm. I know.
03:19So do you.
03:20I love you.
03:23Yeah.
03:24You don't deserve that, woman.
03:39Things she's got you through and now she's stuck in there.
03:41But you know what's coming.
03:48Why else would the doctor be wanting to see you?
03:50Because that's what they do when they know it's...
03:52Hey, are you all right?
03:58Is you here to miss the bus?
04:00Sam and Lydia are going to take us.
04:04Was that Myra?
04:05Yeah, she sends her, love.
04:06Says, er, Caleb's lawyers are going to get her out of there as soon as he can.
04:12Can you take us?
04:13I can't, mate. I've got this thing I need to get sorted.
04:22All right.
04:23I'll see you later.
04:25Hope whatever you're doing goes well.
04:28Whatever it is.
04:28Look at the state of that.
04:57Who leaves the house thinking that looks all right?
05:00It's not a man-mum, mate.
05:01It's a ponytail.
05:09Well, who the hell got these?
05:12Tell me there might be something wrong with my rear end
05:14and then you make me sit on something as hard as concrete for an hour.
05:18Makes no sense.
05:22Still, no-one's in a rush to see me, so...
05:27Can't be an emergency.
05:37You a bored lad?
05:40Well, just don't like sitting about.
05:43Best get used to it.
05:44This was not one for rushing.
05:47Are you a patient?
05:48I know I was waiting with someone.
05:49No, neither.
05:50What was that, mate?
05:56Results day.
05:57Am I right?
06:00Yeah.
06:02I remember it well.
06:03Not easy, is it?
06:06So how long is it since your diagnosis?
06:09Which time?
06:10So, what is it then?
06:16What are you in for?
06:18Well, it started in prostrate, but it spread.
06:24I left it too long.
06:26Same old cliche.
06:28Should have listened to my missus, you know.
06:30But, I won't listen.
06:35Too embarrassed.
06:37Too scared to speak up.
06:41Blokes, eh?
06:44Still, plenty of life in the old dog, yeah.
06:48Got years left in me.
06:49I'm at what this lot say.
06:50Mind you, that's what my dad said.
07:04Is it in your family?
07:06Cancer?
07:10Yeah, my mum, she passed away a few years back.
07:16And my sister, she had breast cancer.
07:20And my granddaughter, too.
07:22She's...
07:23And my dad.
07:28So, yeah.
07:30Mr Dingle?
07:32Yeah, come in.
07:35Oh, good luck, mate.
07:39You too.
07:41I hope I never see you again.
07:43You and me both.
07:47There's your wife with you.
07:48Moira, wasn't it?
07:50No, um...
07:52She wanted to be here, but something came up.
07:54Ah.
07:55Well, that's a shame.
07:56I know from speaking with her last time how close you two are.
07:59And she wanted to be here today.
08:04Please, have a seat.
08:13Sorry about the wait.
08:14Oh, no, it's fine.
08:15It's a bit of a natter-er with my patients.
08:17Yeah.
08:19So, come on then, doctor.
08:20Just tell it like it is.
08:22What am I looking at here?
08:24Okay.
08:26Well, we've gotten back the results of your biopsy.
08:30And?
08:30I'm really sorry to have to tell you, but the results have confirmed you do have prostate cancer.
08:38Right.
08:41At this stage, we believe the cancer is localised to the prostate gland.
08:45So, so it's not spread?
08:49No.
08:50But I do have to warn you, I believe we're looking at an aggressive case here.
08:56But it's not spread?
08:57No.
08:59We rate things on something called the Gleason score.
09:02In your case, we're looking at a score of eight, or grade group four.
09:08What does that mean?
09:09It means there's a high chance the cancer could grow and spread outside the prostate if left untreated.
09:18Now, if you'd like me to talk you through the treatment plan,
09:22my recommendation would be for a surgery known as radical prostatectomy.
09:29An operation?
09:30I've not got time.
09:33Who'd look after the kids?
09:34I should warn you, however, that removing the gland will likely lead to incontinence problems.
09:41I'm going to wet myself.
09:43What the hell's she going on about?
09:45I hope such as you would no longer produce semen.
09:48So there would be no chance of having any further children if that were a consideration.
09:54And erectile dysfunction.
09:57What?
09:58This is insane.
10:00Mr. Dingle.
10:04Yeah?
10:07I know this is a lot to take in.
10:10Maybe I can arrange for us to go over this another day?
10:13Um...
10:15Yeah, yeah, okay.
10:18Might be an idea.
10:21You okay?
10:23Yeah.
10:27Um...
10:28Well, I need chemo.
10:31At this point in time, surgery alone may well be sufficient.
10:34Though in the future, other treatments such as radiotherapy, which is targeted at...
10:43Yeah, I know about that.
10:45Um, my granddaughter, she's been through the mill and back.
10:49Ah.
10:49How is she now?
10:53She's, uh...
10:54She's one of the strongest people I know.
11:01I'm really glad to hear that.
11:03I-I know all of this can seem scary.
11:08Cancer's still gonna get Sarah one day.
11:10Uh-uh.
11:11Your granddaughter, too.
11:13And you too will bet.
11:14Listen, I need to get back to work.
11:16Mr. Dingle.
11:17No, no, no, it's...
11:18You-you've been really brilliant.
11:20I'll-I'll see myself out.
11:30You've got cancer.
11:34Cancer.
11:39What the hell do I do now?
11:47This can't be happening.
11:56Not now.
11:59There's too much to take care of.
12:09Everything's such a mess.
12:17Oh, uh, Cain, we heard about Moira.
12:21Couldn't believe it.
12:22Is she alright, or...?
12:24Moira.
12:28Kyle, he's already lost his mum.
12:32Don't think like that.
12:33Cain, there you are.
12:35What do you want, Ross?
12:36Look, I know you've got a lot on,
12:37and I promised I'd start pulling my weight around the farm,
12:39but do you think you can help me find the keys for the tractor?
12:42They're on gut.
12:43Neither they're not.
12:44I've had a look.
12:45Can you come and have a route around with me?
12:46See if Moira left them in your room.
12:47But I can't do anything until I get that field shot.
12:49I can't do everything.
12:51Just take a look again.
12:53I haven't got time.
12:54Alright.
12:55How is she, anyway?
12:56Moira.
12:59She says she's alright.
13:01What, you don't believe her?
13:04So they need to look after her, does she?
13:07I suppose so.
13:08Don't come much tougher than her, do they?
13:11No, I need to get this.
13:13I'll head back.
13:13I'm sure they'll show up.
13:18This call is from a person currently in prison in England.
13:22All calls are locked and recorded,
13:24and may be listened to by a member of prison staff.
13:27If you do not wish to accept this call,
13:29please hang up now.
13:30Oh, no, boss.
13:55Didn't think you'd been today.
13:57Have you been to see Moira?
13:59Er, no.
14:00I'll, er, I'll finish this one.
14:01It's to service.
14:04We can't manage without you, Sam.
14:07Look, you should be visiting Moira
14:09or spending time with the boys
14:11or at least giving yourself a bit of time
14:12to get your head around all this.
14:13I'm fine.
14:14I just...
14:14I just need to keep busy.
14:17Sarah's right, man.
14:18I can crack on here.
14:19Here, why don't you two nip to the calf
14:20and have ten and I can just crack on...
14:21I said I'm fine.
14:23You do it if that's what you want.
14:24You're not grumpy.
14:25What?
14:27Do you know I can just stop using that nickname by now?
14:29You're not five.
14:30This is a garage.
14:31Well, don't have a go at her.
14:32It would mean I wouldn't drop it.
14:34He was only trying to help you, both of her.
14:37I said, Amber.
14:41What?
14:43What is it?
14:43There's a Ford Focus that needs its break.
14:52It's due in after lunch.
14:53Can you sort that?
14:53Yeah.
14:54Right, and where are you going?
14:55What's the matter?
14:57You don't need me, do you?
15:10Why didn't you just go for that PSA test?
15:13You talked enough other blokes into getting it.
15:17What were you scared?
15:21Kane Dingle, the supposed hard man.
15:25You're pathetic.
15:43You're back then?
15:56We got the boys to school, all right?
16:00Right.
16:00Oh, Lydia said I should tell you that they were both asking about Moirie.
16:07A lot.
16:08I think they're worried.
16:09I'll have a word.
16:11So did you get sorted with whatever you were doing this morning?
16:14Sam, I just came in for a quiet pint.
16:16I've not had five minutes.
16:18What are we asking?
16:19Thanks for stating the obvious, Sam.
16:25That there were bodies on the land.
16:28Moir ain't getting out to prison than I've got cancer.
16:33Enjoy that while it lasts.
16:49Won't be long before you've got no control over it.
16:55Yeah.
16:56Over there, aren't I?
16:57Oh, God.
16:59Not him.
17:03I didn't think we'd see you in here today.
17:08Glad of it, though.
17:09I've got to be honest, I'm going to be worried about you.
17:15Now, I am under strict orders from Chas not to talk to you about Moira.
17:24Unless you want to, of course.
17:25Most bloke's would have taken the cubicle.
17:31Eh?
17:32Oh.
17:34Listen.
17:35Problem shared is a problem heart.
17:38No good ever came at bottling stuff up.
17:42And all those thoughts and worries clogging up a man's head...
17:47It's enough to drive a man insane.
17:49Go on, tell him.
17:57Liam.
18:03Don't ever speak to me in the bogs again, yeah?
18:06All right.
18:10Has the hospital been attached about the results?
18:14No.
18:15Well, no news is good news, I suppose.
18:19Listen, I'm sure.
18:22There you are.
18:24Look, the owner of that Ford Focus just rang.
18:27She reckons she's not even booked in for a break, said it was something to do with the gearbox.
18:29I don't care.
18:31It's a car, and you're meant to be a mechanic, so sort it.
18:34Well, I know, I just...
18:35No, I don't want to hear just anything.
18:37Everything all right?
18:38I just came in here for a quiet pint.
18:41Do you not understand what I'm going through?
18:44My wife's in prison, and my kids are worried sick.
18:46Cain, I'm sure Sarah didn't...
18:47I'm including you and all.
18:49You should have listened to Chas.
18:50I don't want to talk.
18:51I don't want to talk about anything.
18:53I'll stay out my way.
19:04I miss you, Dad.
19:08I don't know why I can't just say it.
19:15I don't know why I can't say a lot of things.
19:20Like...
19:21What if I'm not strong enough for this?
19:25What if I...
19:27You know.
19:34Are you following me?
19:35As if I'd be deft enough to do that.
19:49What is wrong with you?
19:54Grumpy?
19:57You've always told her to speak up.
19:58If you were any sort of man, you'd just get it over with.
20:04You'd just say it.
20:08I'm not well.
20:09After the crash at the hospital...
20:16Er...
20:17Something showed up on my scans.
20:22And they wanted to run more tests.
20:24I told myself it was nothing, but I was...
20:29I was wrong.
20:31I'm sorry.
20:36Don't say that.
20:37I can't bear it.
20:39After everything you've been through.
20:41Hey, this is not a competition, all right?
20:45I just wish you'd have told me.
20:46What, so you could come with me and hold me hand?
20:48No.
20:49Well, yeah, why not?
20:51Listen, you don't have to go through this on your own.
20:53How many times have you told me that?
20:58How many times did he say that?
21:02Listen, we're a family.
21:03This is not just about you, all right?
21:06We're in this together from now on.
21:09You don't have to keep it inside anymore.
21:17I've got cancer.
21:23Were you scared?
21:25Because I know I am.
21:53I know I am.
