00:16the shadows of power, years of imprisonment, and political ambition.
00:23Sif al-Islam was born in June 1972 in Tripoli.
00:28He was the eldest son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's second wife and the second of his
00:34father's nine children.
00:36He earned a degree in architecture in Libya, an MBA in Austria, and a PhD in economics from
00:43London in 2008.
00:46After completing his studies, he became an influential figure within the regime, though
00:51he never held an official government post.
00:54He played prominent roles in Libyan public affairs until 2011.
01:00That year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for him and his father
01:05on charges of crimes against humanity during the suppression of protests in Libya.
01:10After his father was killed, an extensive manhunt for Sif al-Islam followed, leading to his arrest
01:17in late 2011.
01:18A court in Tripoli later sentenced him to death in absentia by firing squad.
01:25But the ruling was eventually overturned, and he was released in 2017 under an amnesty law.
01:34In 2021, Sif al-Islam Gaddafi announced his bid for Libya's presidency.
