00:00My name is Shane Adams. I'm the race director for Aspire and I designed the
00:18drone for the racing drones as well as the racetrack. So today we are here at
00:23Umex in Abu Dhabi and we are doing an AI race competition with drones. The drone
00:29itself only uses an RGB camera and a single IMU which makes it one of a kind.
00:33We actually broke the barrier of technology with this last year but we're
00:37now in our second year. So we did three different formats. We did a format with
00:42AI on its own run where it had to set its fastest two laps. After this we did AI
00:47versus human. So we had six of the top fastest human pilots on the planet here
00:52to compete. Only four of them competed against four of the top AI teams. After
00:57that we did a multi-drone race where we had three AI drones competing at the
01:01same time. See if they can overtake, see if they can break, see if they can deal with
01:04it. And we did it on a course which was about 30 meters by 25 meters. The results
01:12were quite shocking. I was 50-50 on the start deciding who was going to win but
01:17the AI set the fastest lap time out of everybody. However, when it was human
01:22versus AI, the human won. Now this might be down to consistency and AI not being as
01:28consistent. Who knows the variations? And in the multi-drone race, actually the
01:34slowest team in the silver race ended up winning it. Now this is because it was a
01:38bit slower behind the pilots in front of it and it just had a clearer run. So the
01:44results were really varied to what we was expecting but still fun, exciting and great.
01:48We race to innovate. We're always pushing the boundaries of tech. Tech has never
01:55been tested in this way that we're doing. We're testing the components, the
01:59boundaries, can they go on the G-Force and the real world applications can be
02:03put in so many different places. They can go into so many different robotics, not
02:07just drones. For sure I'm not going to stop here. Every year we try and grow a
02:11little bit better. So we're going to add more obstacles to the track, maybe moving
02:15gates, maybe different lights, maybe smoke, put it in sand. We're going to test
02:19different elements of the drone each year, get a little bit more difficult. The
02:23idea being, the end result is that this drone should be able to go into any human
02:27race, compete with any human and win.
02:32See, Abu Dhabi is the hub of innovation, let alone AI. In the past year we've
02:38changed so many things. There's been the F1 cars, there's been AI all over the place and
02:43Abu Dhabi is leading the forefront on this and we are part of it.
